Picked this drama up because I read it won best drama for the year and season it aired. Was probably my first sports JDorama and I must say it was quite good! I've always enjoyed movies/series etc. that deal with a former star or current star athlete that for whatever reason they find themselves struggling to get back to their former glory. Started a bit slow but picked up mid way through and finished strong. The thing I've noticed in JDoramas is that the bad person in the series never get what's coming to them. In crime dramas they do but in dramas where one person is bullying or doing backstabbing stuff to the main character, they never get it back in the end. Hope that changes. |

I think western medical and crime drama's are done so well in the U.S. (ER, Gray's Anatomy, CSI etc.) , so I tend to stay away from Japanese medical and/or police type JDoramas. Not sure why then I picked this one up as I try and watch JDoramas that typically are not covered like they are in the west

I've been watching more Korean dramas lately but decided to watch a Japanese one and ran across Hanzawa Naoki, and was so happy that I did! Nicely paced drama that shows the inside of the Japanese banking system that few see. Japanese drama's don't drag on like their Korean counterpart, and this one ended a bit early, but I'm so glad there will be a season 2.
Kagawa Teruyuki is amazing in this drama as his acting and especially his facial expressions convey more than any words he says. My wife says he is a traditional theater actor in Japan who just started doing TV recently. I hope he does more because he has a screen presence few actors have.
The only reason I didn't give this drama a 10 was because of the ending, but other then that it's well worth watching! | Hero

Every 17 year old guys dream, to fall in love with the hot teacher at school! This drama was quite good but lacked that extra range to get a higher score and be an incredible series. I'm really becoming more of a fan of Matsushima Nanako, as shes not only pretty but can act too! This dramas did its best to be both touching and compelling, but it just lacked a certain emotional quality that could have made it really special. Still, I would recommend if you in the mood for a touchy feelie teary kind drama with an attractive and likeable heroine. |

I also heard Abe Sadao is a comedian in Japan and I could see that, but boy can he act and with surprisingly good range too! This role was tailor made for him. I really enjoyed the beginning episodes. The middle faltered a bit for me but the ending episodes won my heart back! Also becoming a fan of Higa Manami. Really liked her in Code Blue I & II and she's slowly becoming more of a lead actress in my opinion. I thought I'd never ever give another 10 for another JDorama as I've been watching a few that never quite make the 10 mark. Well, that just ended now as Orange Days is a powerhouse 10 out of 10 drama! So much is happening in this series and it had some of the best romantic dialogue I've heard in a long time! I was a bit of a fan of Shibasaki Kou after seeing her in Battle Royale and Galileo, but I'm a huge fan of hers now! She did an amazing job playing a deaf woman, and she played it with such passion and believability that if she didn't win for best actress for this role as Hagio Sae, she should have! I usually buy JDorama's on DVD, but this one wasn't available with the english subs - so I watched it online. I have to say the quality of the subs available online are way better than what you get when you buy the dvd at the asian market. Those ones usually get translated from Japanese to Chinese than to english, so the subs are not as good. This one watching online the subs with right on so the dialogue was just great which made for a great drama! Using baseball as a metaphor for big business worked really well in this drama. Has the same feel as Hanzawa Naoki, which is not surprising given it's the same writer. Well acted and another glimse inside corporate Japan. My first taiga drama and I must say Ryoma Den was very good! I knew of the character from Jin, but here the story is all about the early life and eventually death of Ryoma. I agree with what some have said here in that Fukuyama Masaharu's range as a actor really didn't do any justice to this real life hero. A stronger lead actor with an acting range that could show some true emotional range would have really lifted this taiga to another level!
Still this is a very good drama about the real and incredible life of Sakamoto Ryoma. He was a true visionary and foresaw change and that modernization of Japan was much needed. My first Taiga and definately won't be my last.... I'm hooked! | Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi [最後から二番目の恋]

The drama has a certain charm that's hard to explain, and an innocence that's usually in teen dramas. The chemistry between the two main leads is very very good and the supporting cast are superb as well. Nice drama! |
