Naoko Noda, who works in a trading company, is called ganegoh by her younger co-workers. What is ganegoh? It means golder sisterh, but in this case it is given as a nickname to Naoko because she is like a big sister to the other workers, who depend on her to give them advice about everything.
This drama, based on a popular novel, depicts realistically how Naoko lives her everyday life, including her love life, the problems she faces, and her uneasiness about the future. | NTV |

| 1. | Awesome drama thanks to Ryoko [Rating: 8/10] Anego was a fun drama to watch. I was really able to connect with Shinohara Ryokofs character, possibly because I feel like Ifm in her shoes. The supporting cast was brilliant, especially Tomosaka Rie and Toda Naho. Both were so convincing that Ifm almost afraid to watch another of their dramas for fear that the characters will be lost on me. The one thorn in my side was Akanishi Jin. I understand the casting director wanted someone young in appearance and in age, handsome and lovablec but I would have thought ggood actorh would also be a quality they would be looking for. Jinfs portrayal of Kurozawa was bland and tasteless. Ifm sure the bangs covering the eyes were intentional to hide the fact that he held absolutely no emotion throughout the entire drama. He did seem to improve near the end but he was still painful to watch. Luckily Shinohara Ryoko, who absolutely blew me away, carried his performance. This was my first exposure to her and Ifve become an instant fan. Shefs one of the most charismatic actresses I have ever come across! She and Jin had absolutely no chemistry, but she was still completely believable and her outstanding talent helped me to somewhat forgive Jinfs lack of it.
The plot was good, and I particularly enjoyed the story involving Eriko and Sawaki-san. There were a lot of inconsistencies, like Naokofs sudden proposal to Kurozawa without a proper gbuilding uph, but it was still an enjoyable drama and I had a great time watching it.
I watched the Special as well, since the drama is left open-ended, but 3/4 of it was pure flashback. It was tiring to watch and I ended up forwarding most of it because Ifd just seen all the scenes while watching the drama. The last 15 minutes are all you need to watch. I liked how the end was again open-ended, but I was disappointed that there was no resolve. And Ifm not talking resolve through marriage or whatever. Ifm talking about consistency with the theme. Throughout the entire drama Naoko is struggling to find happiness simply with who she is, and this secures the reasoning behind why she ended up quitting her job and leaving her gold lifeh behind. However, at the end of the special, she appeared desperate and pathetic while trying to find out what the future holds for her. This completely erased any sense of growth she had experienced by the end of the drama. So, although I enjoyed the drama, I found the Special disappointing. | Reviewed by Wynter on 16 July 2007 | 2. | Forgettable [Rating: 5/10] A young man who falls for an older woman has been a trend in jdorama. Anego, however, doesn't give the viewers the expected apetite for this kind of story.
The main character, the "anego", is supposed to be a 30-something yuppie, who hardly appeals to single men, but "anego" is not a bit unattractive. She's way hotter than her skinny, ultra beauty-conscious, flat-chested lil' sisters in their office. With her effortlessly sexy appeal, she could actually play Sharon Stone's role in an asian version of Basic Instinct. She's even voluptuously sexier with her messy hair.
What makes the drama forgettable is the poor editing. It attempts to project that the main character is supposed to be struggling with her becoming a potential wife, but there were no consistent incidents of her supposed to be unappealing aura. She has in fact caught the eyes of a very young officemate and a married executive, with whom she later had an illicit affair. The show also projects that genuine love had blossomed between "anego" and the married man, but it was never established that the two really fell for each other.
Undeniably, Ryoko could act (especially as a beer drinker). Jin, the other popular Kat-tun, however fell short of portraying the role of a young man who has gone madly in love with an anego. Akihiko bravely took the assignment in the far-flung part of Mongolia just to establish himself as a man strong and dependable enough for his anego. Still, Jin's eyes failed to show the supposed sincere feelings of Akihiko towards anego. Jin may look less ugly than Kame; sorry I can't help but say that Jin pales in comparison to Kame when it comes to acting. | Reviewed by Miming chan on 7 May 2008 | 3. | sugoi ne [Rating: 9/10] anego..!! at first, i was hesitated to buy this dorama, no specific reason, it's just that i am not that much of a -young guy-older woman- relationship kind of person... well now that most japanese doramas seem to be head over heels with that idea, i have learnt to accept it..., a little.
Anyhow, on with the dorama..., cant believe that this one is indeed very enjoyable to watch. 32 then, now 33 yrs old lady, loveless, marriedless, relationshipless, one couldnt ask for a more insecure position other than that of Noda Naoko. She is frantic, in need to be saved before her chance's up. Dying to find happiness thru a blissfull marriage, she dragged herself from one relationship to another, only to find that are too many to be altered for the sake of what so called 'happiness'. what an ambitious word a hapiness is.
Then, of corse, there is this young attractive guy, so simple, uncomplicated, kurosawa akihiko, who attracted to her but wasn't sure whether he wanted her as a keep. understandable, since he is only 22 yrs old. Have to admit the chemistry between the two. they thought us that love, and furthermore marriage, isnt all about being properly in love, properly happy, properly accepted.
I still laugh in Naoko's mom comment on their age gap, in which i found very sincere, "dont worry when he is 72 and you (naoko) would be 83, and woman lives longer than man". yes, afterall, what the heck..., who needs to be bound by age in this game anyway...
love it!! | Reviewed by shu sha on 20 October 2005 | 4. | Total Disappointment [Rating: 3/10] First several episodes were great but then it all went downhill when the main character made the bigesst and most stupid mistake in her life. She became rather pathetic, weak and fickle-minded compared to her old self. She is so consumed with the idea of marrying that she would go from guy to guy whenever things do not go the way she wanted it to go with either of them. First she decides to marry someone from an arranged marriage but she doesn't love him so she ditches him. Then she likes this married man and stupidly decides to have an affair with him when the guys hse liked was ten years younger than her turned down her proposal of marriage. After that she kept deviating between the married man and the younger one.
I just couldn't stand for this fickleness; it was so confusing to tell who she actually liked. | Reviewed by Celina on 30 October 2010 | 5. | Very interesting [Rating: 9/10] I've only seen 3 eps so far as well, because my Japanese isn't good enough to watch a dorama without English subs ^^U, and I've enjoyed the three of them very much.
This dorama focus quite well in the life of a single middle-aged working woman, and I must confess the main two characters are just lovely. The role of Noda Naoko is impressively taken by Shinohara Ryoko, she clearly shows what a good actrice she is. And as for Akanishi Jin, I didn't expect him to be so good! He's not only handsome and charming, he has also acting abilities! I couldn't help but to fall in love with him, ever since the supermarket scene in the 2nd ep (don't worry, I'm not going to make a spoiler), 'coz he didn't show off much in the first one.

In Naoko's case, she has this wonderful plan that she would get hitched and quit her job to become a full-time housewife by the time she hits 30. That hasn't happened and she is already 32. And what is sadder? Everyone is calling her "anego," the neon sign that she is OLD, pass her prime, and thus, she is becoming a "furniture." She is no longer that fresh face ppl chase after. Instead, she is a piece of old furniture ppl rely on. Yet, she's not ready to resign to that crappy life. In her desparation, she hooks up with men who sooth her ego. Unfortunely, they are the wrong kind of men for her. In the end, she gets burned and learns that marriage isn't everything. And, her life doesn't suck THAT much. | Reviewed by kumaxell on 7 June 2006 | 7. | Shinohara Ryoko n Kato Masaya???? This is a perfect drama not only for the fans of Akanishi and Shinohara, but for anyone that enjoys an uncommon love story connection.
The love between a younger man and older woman are never the strongest, but the relationship that develops as friends is always a long and ever so enjoyable event to witness. Reminds a little of Ally McBeal with workplace politics in the Japanese society. | 1. | Comments by Kitsuchi [Rating: 8/10] This dorama has nice cast. Jin is really cute and a good actor as expected and I think Ryoko also was a good actress. It was the first time for me seeing Ryoko act.
.. But talking about personalities; I didn't like Ryoko's person, Noda Naoko, much. It was fine at the beginning when she always helped her friends with their problems and all, but after a while, it became too much. I just thought like, "Can't you just refuse them or something next time they ask for advice?" I mean, she's tired and sick of it already. And her friends don't notice it. But I guess that's part of Ryoko's role. It was just annoying at times..
I either didn't like how she switched between Jin and Sawaki. It felt like she was playing with them. I didn't get the feeling of love from her. It was confusing of who she actually had feelings for. The first day she said this and that nice thing to one of them, and the next day she would dump that person and switch to the another. And how she played with Jin - proposing to him, going on a date and saying she was only playing around on top of it.
Well, all in all, I didn't like her character so much. I just felt like she only wanted SOMEONE to marry. But I liked Jin's acting though. He was emotional and sweet and we all knew that he fell for Naoko from the start. It was nice seeing him having an eye on her all the time and when he became all happy-smiley when the two of them got a little closer..
The end was, however, actually bad. Nothing much had changed from when the series started. Just Jin and Naoko getting a little more closer. But Jin is still after Naoko and Naoko is still after someone to marry. We didn't get to know for sure if Naoko fell for Jin at last or something..
But then, there was that fairly good themesong. And well, Jin was like the sun shining in the series and made it alive. So, it's worth watching anyway. I enjoyed it like 85%. | 2. | Comments by IniQx [Rating: 8/10] What happens when you are over 30 years old & unmarried? Moreover, not attached & stucked in a working world of the men. This drama truly reflects the status of women in the society of Japan. A woman's happiness is to quit her job, get married & stay at home for good. Anego - Japanese for big sister. That's what 32 year old Naoko-san is known as among her peers. She's like a big sister to all in the company, providing her fellow colleagues a shoulder to cry on & a person to pour your woes to. So who does she turn to when she has troubles? Another excellent performance by Shinohara Ryoko. She brought out the exasperation of a 32-year-old single woman seeing her fellow comrades get married after one another. Dislike the plot where they made Ryoko fall in love with a junior colleague who's 11 years younger than her. Too over done. Like the idea of having Naoko-san "talking" to the audience at the start of each episode. Especially like the scene where all the female workers sent Naoko-san off on her last day of work. Girl power rules! | 3. | Comments by cass_dust [Rating: 9/10] This is one of the most enjoyable show for the season! Especially interesting to see ryoko desperate for love and marriage, coupled with some funny scenes that she got the wrong 'hints' etc.
I thought that towards the later part of the show, things start to get a bit heavy, and part of it rather sad.
Overall, she performed an outstanding act in the show! Cheers for her!!
I just LoVe Akanishi!!! He's sooo cool, handsome and really acted well in the show.. There is a lot of chemistry between both of them and really made me couldn't resist continuing this show and finished it within 2 days... rather romantic but typical plot between the love of an older woman and younger man, and they have done well to make this show a success.
An Oh, credit goes also to the supporting actors and actresses, espeicall Sawaki, she's just great!! | 4. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 8/10] A modern day tale about a woman, nicknamed Anego (big sister), and her love story at the age of 30 with a young man who is ten years younger than her. It's cutesy tale with touches of comedy about the daily thoughts and duties of a working OL who is still looking for that special someone.
Shinohara Ryoko did a wonderful job portraying Noda Naoko, the lonely woman who has not yet found her love, but is helping all the other women in their love lives. Her train of thought and actions were all very enjoyable to watch. The chemistry that she had with Akinishi Jin was surprisingly good and at times very cute (more like friends). I would recommend this drama to anyone who would want to enjoy a nice romantic comedy with a lot of good-looking faces. | 5. | Comments by icpmat [Rating: 5/10] I was very impressed when I first watched it when it aired, but I don't think this is a rewatchable drama for me. The only novelty upon repeated viewing is the use of type-face to indicate the thoughts of individual characters. The setup of the lead is just so unconvincing! She isn't a career woman at all!! Her job consisted of running errands and making teas, basically a secretary of some sort. The only thing that distinguish her from the other female characters is that she's been there the longest. The title should really read "the love life of an office tea lady in her 30's".
I have seen Shinohara Ryoko in many dramas, and I noticed that her face seems to be getting bigger and wider in recent years. Her face is really big! | 6. | Comments by lilbabi1004 [Rating: 7/10] **edit: it took 7 episodes to spit out the stupid plot...but now it's good**Goodness~ very disappointed. There is neither plot NOR character development, and the prepostrous ep. endings are a futile attempt to keep people wanting to watch the next episode. I mean (although jin is cute), the relationship with "anego" is squeezed in at the last few minutes (i mean, kissing and sleeping after only a month of knowing eachother <sorry but there was a spoiler warning on top already>..and she doesn't even SLAP him or something?) *sigh*. I am draggin myself to finish this drama. it's episode 7 and i'm still hoping it'll get better. >_< (that wife is so annoying!) I'll watch it for jin...I'll watch it for jin...(end rant) | 7. | Comments by Tu_triky [Rating: 6/10] Superbly acted by lead actress Ryoko Shinohara...she has great comic talent balanced with the ability to elicit dramatic tension quite well. Although this dorama falls into the overdone "Older woman-younger man" genre of romantic doramas currently being aired on Japanese televison, it does offer an entertaining insight into the life of a working woman looking for love. Acting by Jin didn't quite cut it....very little chemistry between he and Ryoko kind of diminishes the effort as a whole. Might be worth the effort to watch it but depends on one's personal preferences for dorama. Again, Ryoko Shinohara is the star although the supporting elements did add substance to the performance as well. | 8. | Comments by ginger ale [Rating: 10/10] I love it. The humor, the true to life plot and the chemistry between Ryoko as Naoko and Jin Akanishi as Kurosawa-kun, the hottest salaryman ever. I must admit I watched this drama for the joy of watching Akanishi-kun. With the end of each episode, I couldn't wait to start the next. Do older women younger men relationships really last in real life, I wonder? But its fun while it lasts. I also like the open ended finale, it allows the viewers to come out with endless possibilities of how the couple finally ends up together. | 9. | Comments by Oba-chan [Rating: 7/10] This the first time i see Akanishi Jin and Shinohara Ryoko play the main role. And I think it's unrealistic that they would be together in the end, cause their lifestyle and thinkings are way to far from each other... think that has to do with the age gap.... | 18. | Comments by Di@na [Rating: 9/10] The story is very much like "Kimi wa petto": A 30s year old hardworking woman and a young handsome guy who felt in love with her. But here its more about japanese modern women and their life style and less "love story" if you know what I mean. Funny, sassy and Jin looked very attractiv, delicious, stunning here ^^ the theme song "KISS or KISS" is such a good song with a nice playful flair. | 19. | Comments by EstherM [Rating: 8/10] I watched this in Japan while being an intern with not a lot to do in a training company. The drama helped me a lot to understand how companies work and what role women still play in Japanese companies. I met so many intellengent women who where soooo underused. Therefore the drama will always stay close to my heart. Unfortunately the love interest had to be one of the least talented JE-Boys. | 20. | Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 7/10] This drama may give the viewer some idea of what goes on in the head of a 33-year old unmarried OL. I didn't like the leads though & the ridiculously huge age gap between them was simply too much to swallow. With other lead actors I would've enjoyed this drama a bit more, cause it's not that bad & I like office themes. But now I'd say this one's only a must see for fans of Kat-tun. | 21. | Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 2/10] a kaisha dorama boring. Spend 45 minutes a week in a japanese company and you'll have more fun than watching this useless dorama. The katun guy looks like a half monkey half zombie. Anego is cute and that's the only reason why I don't give it a 1! During all the dorama I've been wanting to punch the girl who try to commit suicide at the end. If I meet her in the street.....,rhgihm | 22. | Comments by teru_teru_bouzu [Rating: 10/10] This was a great drama... I watched it of course for Jin... but all the other casts were great actors.... Shinohara Ryoko is great as Naoko... It's really worth a watch.. Loved how they ended with the open end storyline and to allow the viewer to think of their own ending... Not sure how closely it followed the book because I'm still on the 2nd chapter....haha | 23. | Comments by shikka [Rating: 10/10] akanishi was diffrent in this .....definitely worth watching!!!
non-age limit..i think....to watch this drama....
fro those who havent watch ...GO WATCH it!!!!
the story line is interesting....good job from lead actor n actress...
but the ending was a bit weird.....
not like what i had expected........
but is still a good drama overall.... | 24. | Comments by Sorata [Rating: 7/10] Good overall dorama, a bit boring sometimes(maybe because iLm a guy), but the story was really good, i loved those monologues they had sometimes when chating with each other(Jin and Ryoko), that really made me laugh lol.
This is the first dorama i watched with Akanishi Jin, he looked pretty good, specially as a love interest for an older woman. | 25. | Comments by hero too good! [Rating: 10/10] this drama is sooooooo good!
OMG!just the last part was dissapointing...
well i loved loved loved akanishi jin, he was so ***!the best drama in 2005!every one, if u dont watch this, ur goin to miss ur life!also if ur a akanishi jin fan(like me), u'll totally LOVE him!
he is so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so shockingly HOT~! | 26. | Comments by ellia [Rating: 8/10] At least 4 of these 8 pts are for Jin and his good work), as I loved the acting (not because it's Jin...almost). The rest 4 pts are for plot: 1stly, because it was my first dorama of this kind (OL falling for youngster), as later I became bored; 2dly, I liked the 'open ending' thing; and 3dly, the heroine kind of reminds my humble self). | 27. | Comments by sword_of_heaven [Rating: 5/10] It was alright, though I really only did like the female protagonist's acting (though even that grated at times). And her friend, you know, that quiet, really professional female who was with her. The others really needed to work on their acting. I'm not taking names coz I don't want fangirls cursing me to the end of my existence here. | 28. | Comments by ashley [Rating: 7/10] I watched this drama and find myself wanting very much to know how it ended. A little let down by the ending but nonetheless a great drama which u find yourself relating to the lead actress. Some very touching moments in the show and also hilarious esp when they type out the characters' inner thoughts...a must see. | 29. | Comments by Shindou [Rating: 7/10] A rather enjoyable romantic teaser centred around Anego, well acted out by Shinohara Ryoko. While the plot was mostly predictable, there were a couple of interesting surprises. Overall, with its rather light plotlines, this dorama certainly was quite a bit of fun to watch including the special. | 30. | Comments by zealous [Rating: 9/10] love the story... love the character... love all about the dorama... gosh... the chemistry between Shinohara Ryoko and Akanishi Jin is pretty good. Just like Kimi Wa Petto but more interesting then that dorama. more enjoyable. Ryoko such an attractive woman eventhou she's 32 and Jin is cute..... |

1. | altec I was surprised, because this was one of the first dramas I started watching but stopped after the 1st episode...I dunno why though, b/c this is one really cool drama, and doesn't take itself seriously...something that knows itself to be fiction but can pull u into believing otherwise...and Shinohara Ryoko and Akanishi Jin are cute together (especially their "reading" each other segments) ;O) | 2. | zappie funny and love Shinohara's role. Understand fully her feelings at age 30+.. She's such a reliable Anego... would love to see the two leads develop further... Love to see those "thinking captions"; funny at times. And Jin really is different here, so innocent and boyish, plus he cried.. heartbreaking! Just wishing there would sequel to this drama.. | 3. | darc_blade Definetely gives the type of woman alot of guys would love to go for. Delicate on the outside, strong on the inside. I've seen Akatsuki perform in Mukodono but nothing as sensitive and womanly as Anego. Though at times I must admit she can get a bit macho. Great Drama, geared towards guys as much as women in my opinion | 4. | arleneong912 i love the drama, it depicts the real life of career women in their 30's looking for their "last" chance at love and marriage...having Jin as the lead actor adds to my vote for this drama:) | 5. | nagaioyasumi Brilliant with a very endearing cast. I loved how it could be both real and exaggerated at the same time. A heart-warming drama that will make you laugh and cry. | 6. | chibiandor This is becoming to be one of my favorite dramas ever made! Ryoko-san is an excellent actress and watching her bring the charatcer "Naoko" to life, is amazing! | 7. | jahvi I'm only starting to watch this drama and I'm already so into it! I love it! Jin is so hot and he's portrayed his character well! I like him a lot! | 8. | Jeanxi I heart Anego (the drama not the character). Jin will probably be the one and only girly boy I ever like...but only in Anego (not in real life) =P | 9. | vitamins I could really see the chemistry between Ryoko and Jin. Jin was absoulely cute here, while Ryoko exhibited the type of coolness~ Woots | 10. | inessalenin I have same feeling about what will I do as over 30s! No romance, no career future, life is without hope, so stupid thing happened! | 11. | akitsu WOW. This drama is so great. I could really identify myself with the main character O_o The cast and scenarist did great job! | 12. | Dajaja Ah. BakaJin. He's a bit stiff in here but still not too bad. The female lead was awesome though. Acting-wise and all. | 13. | cwenting Shinohara Ryoko is an awesome actress!
