1. Disappointed with the direction, but still excelle [Rating: 9/10]
I thought Kimura Takuya's character was basically a more extreme version of the type of roles he's usually played before. I wouldn't have thought it a good idea, but the result was perhaps his best role ever. However it was Shuumei who really stole the show, or at least that's what I would like to say, but the show's biggest failure was the lack of screen time she actually receives. Instead we get more of Shinohara Ryoko's character, Maemi. I have to admit I never much cared for her as an actress in general, but it's especially aggravating when I want to know what's going on with Shuumei, but she's always locked up in some hotel room. Which is perhaps why I found the first episode totally amazing, and found myself progressively more disappointed as the show went on. In reality, the whole drama is a not very thinly veiled commentary on the recent economic advances China has seen. I remember reading a quote once about how yamatodamashii was a sort of action oriented, common sense compared to Chinese learning. This is clearly represented by Rensuke who like a great Daimyo must spill some blood for the greater good, but who is inherently caring and righteous, and who is ultimately betrayed by his close friend, who of course has Chinese blood. (I am not trying to state my personal opinions on this either way, just merely reflecting on what I felt the story's message to be. And I would like to point out how ridiculously obvious it becomes when chairs made in China start EXPLODING. Also I don't feel it's necessarily an anti-Chinese message as Regolith is initially the clear aggressor, and Rensuke clearly says that he did "the same things", but I do feel there is an intended parable in Rensuke's development, for how Japan should view themselves in the changing modern world. ) Although the final episode was very well done, and contained some of the series finest moments, the ending was nonetheless particularly disappointing to me. It was exactly the cliche ending I started expecting from the second or third episode, cliche from a general Japanese drama perspective, but even more so as a Kimura Takuya drama. I felt it ended like nearly every other drama he's ever stared in. But it is even further evidence to support my claim on what the the show's message is, and has to be considered a success, at least from that perspective.

2. JAPANESE ENDING WITH KOREAN PLOT [Rating: 6/10]
Overall I have to say that this is one of a good cinderella drama story, rarely i see this type of plot from japanese drama. Lin Zhi Ling and Kimu Taku are perfect as a couple, his character "Ren" was a cold-hearted person but turned soft when he is with her (Xiu Mei), her character "Xiu Mei" was naive, understanding, and strong fill in his heart with passion and beauty that he never felt before. Shinohara Ryoko as "Maemi" is a faithful friend.

However the ending turned out unexpected which I don't prefer. At the end it's like Takuya being forced to end up with Ryoko since she is Japanese and was with him for a long time already, while actually Takuya chemistry with Lin Zhi Ling is so strong. This is why i think they make this drama short since viewers not really into this type of slow romance and wrong couple ending, compared to South Korean drama whom main couple always shown lot of scenes together and survive the whole problems and end up together happily.

The director and the script writer, mainly the producer looked stupid for the ending and minimize romance between 2 nations while actually that's what is the public want most, we know Takuya Kimura and Lin Zhi Ling have international fan base all over Asia not just in Japan.

GOOD PLOT DRAMA WITH DISAPPOINTING ENDING (WRONG COUPLE)!!!!!!!

3. Kimu Taku is Back But watch out for Matsuda Shota [Rating: 8/10]
This is this first Kimu Taku drama I've enjoyed for a long while.I was worried about how good Lin Chi Ling's acting was going to be but was relieved on seeing the result. Actually her character gets less important as the drama progresses.

I actually felt that Kimu Taku who's back on form in this drama was outshone by Matsuda Shota's brilliant performance. Great acting also by Ryoko Shinohara. Loved the ending but felt that Shinohara Ryoko picked the wrong guy....that relationships never going to last ...with both those egos getting onto each other's ways.

4. Good and watchable especially with Lin Chi Ling!!! [Rating: 8/10]
Good drama and really liked Lin Chi Ling's character as she is not only super pretty but she can act as well. I generally like Shinohara Ryoko in most of her roles, "At home dad", "Anego" etc., but her character here was always pouting and puckering her lips and always tossing her hair back, which got to be a bit annoying. Still a good drama with only 8 episodes, so you can finish in a day or two.

5. Solid romantic drama [Rating: 8/10]
KimuTaku plays his cool self. Not a role to stretch him but rather one he plays well already.
Shinohara Ryoko is enchanting. Mixing Chinese and Japanese scenery is a refreshing change.
And the ending was very satisfying.
Really enjoyed it.

I almost give this drama 6 or 7 points, if that happen it will be the first time i rate poorly for Kimura-san drama. Reason?? because 1 to 6 episode is too "KOREAN DRAMA", i don't like it, even their theme song like an Korean Ending Song. I mean that's really boring when Love, Poor, and fame becomes a main focus in drama (Just like the other Korean drama). I just, Hey!!! Japanesse Dorama Have their uniqueness, don't you ever trying to change your way to something poor like Korean drama.
And then they hear my wish. And the Final Episode was the best think i ever saw. It's not about racist or what, it's all about love, If i Rensuke i will choose her too, because she has something that other girl don't have. That's a Brain.. Other girl was too stupid (I don't want to be harsh, but if you're girl, don't you ever sit down and wait for your men, just stand up and go forward find him and save him), but this girl is clever and sweet (You will know when you watch it). Because Of this "Happy" Ending i give this drama 9 Points. Rensuke character sometimes similar to his "Ryo" character at Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi, very cold, but they still have a different side so it's okay.
Theme Song: LOVE RAIN ~ Koi no Ame [Kobota Toshinobu]: 1 (It should be arashi or SMAP song, ckckckk...)

I'm not very much interested in romantic dramas but this one was catchy. It's my first time seeing Kimura Takuya. Well, I can say that he's a great actor. I loved his performance. I think that he deserved "Drama King" surname. Also Shinohara Ryoko. She was good here. I really enjoyed her acting and also clothes. She was so stylish here. Lin Chi Ling was way too adorable when she tried to speak Japanese. She was kinda modest but still pretty. Matsuda was as cool as always. He gets that kind of roles most of time. But he fits them. And finally my favourite here - Kitagawa Keiko. I was impressed by her acting here. Her best role so far. Nothing more to say.

Extremely well written and acted, as one should expect from a drama Kimura Takuya stars in. The outcome was too predictable , judging by his previous dramas, and i found myself hoping it would go the other way the whole time I was watching. It of course didn't and it really disappointed me, and nearly left me an emotional wreck, but I can't be too hard on it for personal preferences, as it is definitely one of the better drama series to come out in quite a while.
4. Comments by ginger ale [Rating: 7/10]
Compelling first episode hooked me into the drama and the powerhouse cast of Kimura Takuya, Shinohara Ryoko, Lin chi Ling. But the drama didn't live up to the expectation though it redeemed itself with the cliche ending. Rensuke the main protagonist life could stand for some sort of metaphor on where Japan is headed economically in th 21st century.

Didn't care for the story too much. Redeeming factor was the ending -- liked. Shinohara Ryoko (Maemi) was amazing -- over the rest of the female cast. Kitagawa Keiko was cute -- and Xiu Mei's character was just poor -- ending up fast forwarding all scenes with her towards the end. Watching Shinzanmono before this super spoiled me.

Promising start, but it never took off for me. Seemed like a waste of budget and big name actors. The acting was decent but I never felt any connection with the characters. Also, there didn't feel like much build-up to the ending. Ren could've ended up with any of the girls and it wouldn't have made a huge difference.

I didn't like the first 6 episodes, but loved the last 2. The relationship between Hazuki Rensuke and Liu Xiu Mei was too forced from the beginning and lacked chemistry. I liked Shinohara Ryoko's portrayal of her character...she did it so well. It came together well at the end, which made it worth watching.
8. Comments by Patazilla [Rating: 8/10]
8.5 actually. This dorama really sets an atmosphere and is quite something else than your average drama. I really liked most of the cast and most of the story, [SPOILER] though the ending might be a bit "why?", not that I had rooted for Xiu Mei, but Rensuke's feelings (??) came a bit out of the blue.

I wanted to like this drama - I really did, cause Matsuda and Shinohara can't do wrong in my little corner of the world. But Kimura... really... what happend? I used to love everything this man did. But this drama was corny, predictable and overall way to cheezy for my liking.

i don't know why the ending surprised me so much... i thought that as a whole the series wasn't too solid. maybe taku was too stiff in this one. and keiko's character was seriously completely useless.

As an absolute fan of Kimutaku and Shinohara, I could only enjoy it, and I did. It is just another one of these well-done doramas with perfect acting. Lin Chi Ling was a good surprise.

I only gave it a 9 because the chemistry was a little lacking in this drama because of the storyline. Lin Chi Ling's character annoyed me. Otherwise it would be a 10!

Will def have to check out some younger Kimutaku stuff now!! Ryoko did a fantastic job in this as well!

As a Keiko fan, she too was predictably adorable :)

Can't stand Lin's attempt at speaking Japanese, her role really annoys me here. Forced ending, difficult to connect to any of the characters.

Horrible script... only bearable character was Maemi san, the rest of them don't really seem to make sense... Such a waste of the cast.

it's nice to see kimutaku in a new role as an "asshole"^^, but the plot is a bit boring. nothing special, but worth watching.

well another performance from takuya Kimura, this time with Shinohara Ryoko. I kinda hoping that they end up with each other

Eight is too many. Episodes that is. If it weren't for Matsuda and Shinohara, I would have rated this even lower.

it is clearly not the best kimutaku's drama. As a fan of kitagawa keiko I would have chose her directly...

A so-so storyline with great actors and actresses, romantic and happy ending, and nice theme song.

Kimura stays behind his abilities. His role was too small also. Hasegawa's play is outstanding.

This drama is very heart wrenching and heart-warming. I don't know if it's my PMS talking or just me, but I cried so hard in the last few episodes of this drama. A must watch!:D
