Sakaki "Tornado" Makio (Nagase Tomoya) is a tough 27-year-old high school drop-out. By academic standards, he's pretty dumb. His father decides to force Makio to return to high school to receive his diploma and he asks an old friend who happens to be the principal (Iwaki Koichi) of a nearby school to admit Makio. If Makio doesn't graduate, the position of boss will be given to his younger brother Mikio (Kikawada Masaya).
Furthermore, he must pose as a 17-year-old during school hours and in the presence of any classmates or teachers outside of school. If his cover is blown, it would be the end of his high school career as well as his hopes to become boss. Things start out rough and tough as Makio's violent temper is tested. As the lessons and days go by he learns there is much more to school than just tests and studying. | Dramawiki |

| 1. | Absolutely the best! [Rating: 10/10] I am embarrassed to count how many times I have watched this drama. It is just so, absolutely, brilliantly, excellent - words are failing me at this point. Nagase Tomoya is no doubt one of the most brilliant actors I have ever seen. I have no doubt that he is the Japanese equivalent of Johnny Depp when it comes to overacting, and pulling it off as excellent acting. I don't think anyone else could've played Sakaki Makio the way Nagase did.
The supporting cast did well, and the chemistry between the classmates of Class 3-A was excellent. I didn't really get the hints of possibly love between Sakaki and Minami, but I'll let that pass as a little bit of silliness in the show - which, at some points, can get rather endearingly silly. Of course, this is balanced by heartwarming scenes aiming to get the show's message across that 'school is great!' But it doesn't get overly preachy.
Definitely one of the best dramas in 2006 - no, in like, forever!! I thoroughly believe Nagase should've won a Best Actor award for this; he has totally surpassed himself. Watch it, again and again and again and again. I swear you'll never get bored of it. I still haven't. | Reviewed by Limes on 14 May 2008 | 2. | Hilariously Funny [Rating: 8/10] First of all, I want it known that I absolutely LOVE Nagase Tomoya, and therefore this entire review may be a bit biased when it comes to my continuous praise of his acting ability.
This drama was simplistic in its storyline and this aided in its effectiveness. Because the plot was simple, more effort was available to pour into the comic elements of the drama. This show was incredibly funny. Unlike Tiger & Dragon (Nagase's previous comedic drama), which has an adult humour undertone, My Boss My Hero was very slapstick in its blunt, in-your-face humour. Nagase's facial expressions in this drama were brilliant, and scored huge points in making me literally laugh out loud.
If you like comedy, Yakuza, and Nagase, this would be the perfect drama for you.
I was disappointed with the ending of the drama, and the "romance" between Makio and his 17-year-old schoolmate was annoying, but the show was still good. It was fun to watch and it served as a healthy break from all the overly-dramatic plots that have been released as dramas in recent years. | Reviewed by Wynter on 31 December 2006 | 3. | Amazing, a must watch. [Rating: 10/10] It was the BEST comedy drama I watched. Ever, in my life. It even surpassed Gokusen. :)) I decided that Yakuza are cool, wether its Yankumi or Makky. :)) Was that the correct spelling? I hope I didnt get it wrong, sakura-something.:)) TEGOOOOOOSHIIIII. TEGOSHIIIIIIII. TEGOSHIIIIIII. He's funny here. :))
And I was completely rolling on the floor laughing, ROFL. @-|, when I saw Tanaka Koki, the dude of KAT-TUN that looked like he was going to beat some one up, admiring, sewing and wearing pink just for Makky. :)) It made ma laugh, so much, I kept laughing until I fell asleep on my keyboard. Yes... Those were the days. :))
He really does cook, clean and sew. Ta-chan. He can do all those industrious stuff. Unlike me. :)) It made me smile that Tegoshi had a some person properly love him. In all his drama's, he didnt have a girl around his arm. :))
I feel sad for Makky though. :( He's going to go to another school. Though, I think I want another season. :))
I give it a perfect 10 for the best comedy series. | Reviewed by JEaddicthellyeah on 3 November 2009 | 4. | my favorite school drama! [Rating: 9/10] this definitely beats every other school drama i've watched. it's hilarious and extremely entertaining, and even if a lot say that the middle part got a bit boring, i really didn't think so. :) the only problem i have with it is that the storyline is pretty overused. however, despite the resemblance in formula with say, gokusen, i think this one managed to pull it off the best. i say, it's all thanks to tomoya nagase's brilliant acting. he never failed to amaze me in every drama of his i've watched.
one thing i want to wish for right now is a special or something. that would really make me happy. :) | Reviewed by C.Hwang on 25 October 2007 | 5. | Entertaining [Rating: 7/10] Not the greatest dorama with its rather ridiculous storyline and juvenile plots but entertaining nonetheless. Tomoya carries this dorama by providing much of the comic relief. Yuya and Koki however.....would've been better off if Koki passed on some of his aggressiveness to Yuya.....seems so ridiculously imbalanced as depicted. The rest of the cast was ok although there's definitely potential for improvement. My recommendation? Watch it for what it's worth and you'll get out a laugh or two. | Reviewed by Shindou on 6 October 2008 | 6. | thumbs up ~.~ [Rating: 8/10] a lighthearted show full of comical relief, hilarious moments and heartwarming scenes. i was practically laughing throughout the entire series. this is the show to watch if you want a break from the typical love story/tearjerkers genre. the ending cld probably be better, but still it made me felt that schooling is definitely an enjoyable and cherishable part of our lives. tomaya passes off as a convincing actor, and yui is cute! thumbs up for this one ~ :) | Reviewed by ex(alibur` on 25 September 2006 | 7. | Simple, good... and very satisfying! Teenagers and the 20s may love this drama for its humor and madness.
Grown-ups in the 30s may find this drama greatest for its underlying virtues of humanity - energy and high spirit, love and friendship, sincerity and togetherness....

| 1. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 7/10] I have to admit, I was not all that impressed with the show when I saw the first episode. The storyline was somewhat attention grabbing because it dealt with a yakuza leader who has to go back to high school to get his diploma. However, as I continued the series I thought it was quite enjoyable and fun to watch off and on. The episodes move in a progressive manner and happen to focus on different aspects of high school life from exams to sports days and even matters of love.
Nagase Tomoya is able to pull off the part of a commanding and fearsome leader in a yakuza group by night and still look like a fumbling and somewhat timid high school student in the daytime. I found this factor to be one of the highlights of the series. In school, Makio (Nagase) makes friends with another boy who he saves from being bullied and a girl named Hikari. Through their help and the teacher's confidence in him, he's able to overcome many of the obstacles he has to face day to day. This was an entertaining drama although some parts seemed to drag on a little too long. The weakest point in this drama for me was the romance. I thought it was odd for a 27 year old yakuza guy to fall head over heels for a high school student. That's just me I think. I'd recommend this drama to fans of Nagase Tomoya. | 2. | Comments by Nermal [Rating: 9/10] Took me awhile to decide to review this but it was because I was a little sour about the ending of the series last week.
To start: Excellent drama, had hilarious, stupid, unpredictable, touching moments all over it. The characters are very endearing not to mention the style fitting the story very well.
The story may sound very ridiculous to start with but does convey a good message within it. It is@however a comedy so keep that in mind.
Nagase Tomoya proves that he is a very versatile actor yet again (and damn is it me or is he getting hotter and hotter when he doesn`t have the Rambo hairstyle (which he just got back again)) along with a fresh cast of young actors that, well, made it interesting. XD
The ending left me sour, but that is me, I just wished the series would have never ended is more like it. ^^ Maybe next year we will get to witness a Special drama? ^^ | 3. | Comments by occultangle [Rating: 7/10] I don't usually watch comedy dramas, because even if they are funny (and they usually aren't) they lose their humor as they progress, and end up failing at both comedy and drama. After hearing how funny My Boss My Hero was, I finally broke down and watched it. I found it to live up to it's reputation and be the first drama I actually found funny. But they really messed something up here, and it wasn't the serious parts which were surprisingly decent, I don't know what happened, if they changed directors or writers or something, but at exactly episode six it becomes totally stupid, the whole style of humor changes to retarded absurdity, the kind of comedy only a child could find funny. It gets a little better at the end, because as I said it's a decent story, but it's such a disappointment, since the first five episodes were so good. | 4. | Comments by serebi [Rating: 9/10] This drama deals with Yakuza in a very funny manner. Makio's character is played extremely well by the actor, this expressions are not annoying but they are very funny and practical for this role. In contrast for example with Yakuko to Kenji were they are supposed to be Yakuza bu all the do is twist their necks and throw CG rays from their eyes to each other.
Aragaki san again is so damn cute in her role, I actually wanted them to kiss Sakaki and her (perv thought :P), although it IS a little too odd for a Yakuza guy to fall for a high school girl, even if she is as cute as Yui. The theme song by TOKIO is enjoyable and all in all, I laughed and had a great time watching this drama!
It gets a 9 because it leaves some loose ends such as, sakurakoji confessing to Arakagi based on the history's dialogs. | 5. | Comments by abelcmcr [Rating: 9/10] This drama deals with Yakuza in a very funny manner. The plot may be silly, the chaarcters and situations over the top, but this drama is charming in the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't hide the fact that it knows it is meant to be silly. Nagase is a good comic actor, and Koki from KAT-TUN as his underling is a rough gem - funny guy in the making. The school kids are not as irritating as say, those from Gachibaka or DanDori, and I had always like Aragaki Yu. At the end of the day, looking back, I can say that this is one of the few handful of dramas that gave a level of satisfaction to me at the end of the summer season. | 7. | Comments by ducko [Rating: 8/10] This drama was good. Nagase Tomoya who plays Makky was a little too over the top sometimes, and made it hard to take some parts seriously. I liked Tanaka Koki, who plays Kazu, character... he was funny and i felt sorry for him sometimes. Tegoshi Yuya, played Makky's first friend Sakura, was a good actor - but he was kinda weird to me... The teacher Minami and female classmate Hikari didn't have good characters; in both love scenarios, it would have been all wrong for Makky.
My favorite character would be Mikky, Makky's younger brother, played by Kikawada Masaya. He was smart, and basically had what Makky was missing. He played a good "nice" but in a way "sinister" character. I would like to see more of his stuff.
I like the drama because it was fun.
[20070722] | 8. | Comments by sirhin [Rating: 9/10] I just finished watching this two days ago and it was great! The leading character played by Nagase Tomoya was great (though slightly unrealistic) and he had the most hilarious facial expressions throughout the series. The supporting male character played by Tegoshi Yuya was absolutely adorable. The slight romantic aspect of the drama didn't make me feel nauseous so I applaud that and I admit a big bonus was how it involved a fictional crime organisation - and I know how much I love those. It's pretty action packed and with lots of humor so it's rather well-balanced. I love the series and though I watched it from a boxed set that my sister's friend let us borrow, I wish I could have my own so I could watch it at will. :) | 9. | Comments by ScrappedShinigami [Rating: 9/10] I absolutely LOVED this show, all of it!
Some people did not like the ending, but I did!
Nagase was absolutely hillarious!!! And he was also cute, cool and hard as nails all at the same time!
There was not one character that I did not like in this drama.
A lot of people did not like Sakurakouji but I thought he was sweet and unselfish and I just wanna give him a hug.
Nagase's relationship with Hikari was adorable! I LOVED his stutter... and the lumber jack! ... Bless him XD
I definitely recommend this dorama to anyone who likes light-hearted, fun, comedies.
I really really enjoyed it, after having such high hopes for this series I am so glad that I was not left disappointed, not even for a second. | 10. | Comments by Kitsuchi [Rating: 10/10] This dorama has become one of my favourite one. It's got everything you wish for. It's really funny, heart-warming, sad, happy, romance involving... You name it.
I really like the ending song too, which is sung by the mainperson in this series, Nagase Tomoya from TOKIO. It was a good choice for the series..
However, I strongly recommend this dorama to everyone. The ending was totally unexpected and that made it so good and awesome. First you get shocked and then afterwards, you notice yourself sitting in front of the screen with a big smile and singing along the song. This dorama is... handsome ^_^! | 11. | Comments by dekatrain [Rating: 9/10] First of all, this show's simply HILARIOUS. Forget the other crap, if you wanna laugh and not really have to think to much, this is the one to watch. I wasn't going to watch this, but after it got decent ratings at the start i thought there must be something about it so i started to watch and began to love it! I think it's secret relies in it's character's warm-hartedness and freshness of the script. Nagase Tomoya perfectly combines his "konoyarou" yakusa character with his stumbling high schooler, and ive fallen for yui after when she said "issho ni kaerou?" Must watch for instant laughs... | 12. | Comments by pash [Rating: 9/10] With such an outrageously absurd premise, I honestly only expected this to be a funny comedy (which it was; heck, it was even hilarious in many scenes!); what I didn't expect was that it could end up being so deep and well written! Congrats to the authors, to Nagase Tomoya's histrionic skills, to the main actresses' cuteness (I was particularly glad to see again Murakawa Eri, whom I really liked as the lovely manager of the yakyuu club in "Rookies") and finally to "Tokio" for the very nice ending credits song, "Sora Fune"! :) | 13. | Comments by Shindou [Rating: 7/10] Not a bad dorama, entertaining at least. Obviously goes without saying that the audience shouldn't expect any of the storyline to make any sense but given that, the selection for the cast could've been improved on. Nagase Tomoya was decent as the lead but Yuya was really too much of a wimp whereas Koki overcompensates on this point.... Yu was decent as the homeroom teacher and the rest of the cast was passable. A nice light drama to pass your time as long as your expectations aren't too high. | 14. | Comments by Tu_triky [Rating: 8/10] A great comedy overall that was one of the few highlights of 2006. Nagase Tomoya puts forth a valiant comic performance that was funny if not a bit over the top and redundant at times. The all too familiar school setting doesn't provide many surprises by way of supporting performances which robs the dorama of some needed depth at times. However, if you want to laugh out loud at a light-hearted morality tale that imparts lessons about life....this may just be your cup of "Agnes pudding." | 15. | Comments by ex(alibur` [Rating: 9/10] a lighthearted show full of comical relief, hilarious moments and heartwarming scenes. i was practically laughing throughout the entire series.

I'm in my graduation time now and this was like the "ultimate dorama" now. Not only that I reflected my own high school life, but I actually felt the spirit of it in the Dorama. I felt joy while seeing Makio getting the puddings, I fell in love with U-u-umemurasan, I felt the sadness he did. Every episode was terrifically hilarious beacuse well over-acted. The end couldn't be better in my opinion. Great show and a must watch for teens! | 17. | Comments by sadacori [Rating: 9/10] Nagase Tomoya plays a soon-to-be Yakuza leader...that is, only unless he graduates from high school. So this 28-year-old gets enrolled in a high school and though reluctant and defiant at first, he finds himself making friends, falling in love, and *gasp* studying.
I found this to be a very satisfying drama with the perfect blend of comedy and seriousness. It was really touching in some scenes as well. That's why I'm giving this drama a 9. | 18. | Comments by Sorata [Rating: 10/10] This is by far the most funny dorama i watched, like i say all the time Nagase Tomoya was born to play funny Yakuza parts, he just do it better than anyone else(watch Tiger&Dragon as well).
But if you like the Yakuza kind of comedy(which i like), you will love this dorama. All the cast was good but TomoyaLs antics and facial expressions overshadow all their performances lol. The Sorafune song is awesome, i never get tired of listening to it. | 19. | Comments by Sailorprinzess [Rating: 10/10] I can not begin to explain why I love this series so much. All o fthe characters are amazing, and Tomoya really pulled off Makio. This series made me laugh with the hilarious storylines... I mean, come on, the first episode alone was about Makio finding out how to get the school's famous pudding, which there is only a limited amount of. This is on my top ten dramas of all time, since it is so lovable. Now be My hero, and watch it! "Hanya?" <3 | 20. | Comments by jess [Rating: 9/10] A good mix of laughter and tears (both from laughing too much and being touched:'( ) The story centres around how Maki, the to-be head of a gang, is sent back to high school and the way he copes with high-school life, love, friendship and being torn when he has to choose between his high school life and his real life. Definitely a must watch! If there's only one drama you wish to watch for this year (2006), watch MBMH! You won't regret it:) | 21. | Comments by nishishi [Rating: 10/10] Really Funny! And nice acting by all the JE members... Nagase, Tegoshi and specially Koki. (i never imagined him playing those kind of "stupid" char.). Good plot, this series is one of the best comedians doramas i've seen so far. Honestly it does look a lil' american"ish" like that Adam Sandler movie (wich the name completely slliped ou of my mind) but i dun see why it should be a problem... Higly recommended if u r looking for some laughs! | 22. | Comments by Swedish_Japan_Lover [Rating: 10/10] This is magic. When you can make this, a drama that only contains stupidness and jokes to still have a meaning. Seriously I even started to cry in some scenes just because I was so touched by the message and the emotions. And thats gold to me when you mix this overwhelming comedy (which FYI made me fall of my chair of laughter) with a touching message. It gives certain respect to the drama, when some just make fun of everything. | 23. | Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 10/10] The first dorama that made me laugh! I used to smile watching dorama like GTO live etc... but My Boss is just funny, so funny! purin fighting is the best part of the dorama I think. The way Nagase talks in it is just so great so maybe I laughed so much because I speak japanese. Anyway if you won't to enjoy and have a great time this one isn't a classic high school dorama, it's much much more powerful! ( love sorafune too!) | 24. | Comments by norz [Rating: 10/10] koki!!! yuuya!!! tomoya!!!
very funny drama! tomoya's faces are hilarious! everyone must watch this!
The drama gives one the feeling of what one charishes in their teen lives.. its very cute and sentimental. you cant help but root for 27yr old makky and uuume..? girl lol and the pudding thing LOL we all had that time when we would do anything to get that one little thing that is just so satisfying. | 25. | Comments by ffrostte [Rating: 10/10] A very funny yet touching drama. Nagase's acting is, once again, awesome in it. One can definitely 'get' something after watching this drama. It's not just a plain comedy. It definitely goes deeper than that. This is surely a drama that one can savour for more than once!
And, I don't think it will be half as good without Nagase being the lead! He really IS an incredible actor!! | 26. | Comments by CheeSauce [Rating: 7/10] This drama was light and entertaining. It was fun to watch but wasn't anything special. The storyline could have been much more, the students could have been explored much more, the ending could have been more dramatic, but it wasn't. However the acting was well done and quite outrageous. If you are looking for a drama to casually watch to pass the time, this could would be great. | 27. | Comments by ginger ale [Rating: 10/10] The funniest the silliest and moving jdorama i've watched. Tomoya Nagase is awesome as the yakuza heir turned student. He was so funny and sexy. Koki Tanaka of Kat-tun was a revelation as an actor he can sing and act and dance.NewS Tegoshi Yuya can act but he is prettier than the girls in the series so that kinda disoriented me. I love Tokio's Sorafune the OST of the jdorama. | 28. | Comments by ؓގq [Rating: 10/10] I have got to say that this is the epitome of comedies. It is so entertaining and funny that I give it a 10. (and I don't give out 10's very often.) It is definitely light hearted and a bit over the top but I found myself laughing at every opportunity. Usually more deeply plotted dramas deserve my 10 but since this drama is just unbelievably well written I give it a 10! MUST SEE | 29. | Comments by Iza_Yanti [Rating: 10/10] As always, Nagase suitable for 'yakuza' character... His 'baka' character are of coz makes me feel he is so baka in dat drama... diz drama will make you feel want to go back to school n enjoy high school life.. Yuya Tegoshi also can act as a nerd guy. Gacky also so kawaii.. i,ve watched diz drama for many times.. dunno wat to say.. diz drama will make laughig all the time!! | 30. | Comments by Sleepingstar [Rating: 7/10] After first episode thought this was almost complete bs... It's one of those way over the top comedies that are not to be taken too seriously. Despite that there's also enjoyable and light drama included in this pretty crazy comedy. At times choberibad and stupid, but still its somehow enjoyable to watch and pretty funny, though didn't find it as fun myself as some others. |

1. | RubberDuckie Although, the series has just started. The ratings for the first episode is 19% That's even more than Nobuta wo Produce :O The storyline is similar to the Korean MBMH, but I'm sure that many parts will be different, the korean one was a bit gory. Plus, Tegoshi<33 from NewS and Koki from KATTUN are acting in it. For the first episode, it's extremely likeable, PUDDING XD Teshi gets a smiley character for once :D | 2. | x_XJules The first episode of this series was complete gold. I was worried all the following episodes wouldn't be able to keep up with the high standard the show had already produced. but this show will never dissapoint you. it's funny (hillarious actually), clever, and heart-warming. it gives you everything: love, friendship, youth, family... definitely by far one of the best shows i have ever seen. | 3. | Lulurz awesome awesome series
It made me laugh and cry~
it's so touching and makes u think that you should treasure ur youth when life is still pure and simple.
but HAHAHA gotta say it's Rd`kkxfunny too~ Nagase Tomoya really did a good job in being Makky~ he is HILARIOUS~ loved it from the start to the end ~
also props to the script cuz it's really entertaining~ highly recommended | 4. | weetzie_bat i just finished & i had such good time watching this dorama. there's so many laugh out loud moments, mostly due to nagase tomoya's hilarious performance. if you just want laughs & good time, i recommend this one. even the supposed romance didn't bother me at all. gakky is just super cute! i'd watch anything she or nagase in! | 5. | ThyGriever i totally loooved this drama! Out of ALL the dramas i have seen, this has got to be my favorite. All the actors were perfect in their roles. There's the right amount of comedy and seriousness to make anyone enjoy it. Plus, it teaches the viewers lessons, etc. that makes it a complete drama. I'd recommend this drama to anyone~! | 6. | Tangerous Sure, this show has everything you'd expect from a high school drama (test of courage, school festival, sports competetion, etc.) but it does so in a way that is both fresh and endearing. I've never watched a show that made me crave a fictional product (Agnes Pudding!) more than this one. That alone is worth some major props! | 7. | Limes Brilliant over-acting from Nagase Tomoya; he excels in his role as the yakuza-turned-student Makio, and was given great support by the rest of the cast. Comedic yet touching storyline that somehow is able to send its message about a meaningful school-life, yet doesn't come across as being preachy. :) | 8. | cutesawada Really really funny. Probably the best this season (Summer 06). The roles were really fitting for everyone. Tego was cute, Koki was gangsta and Nagase was just hilarious overall. And I was surprised how cute Yui was. I recognized her from Dragonzakura except her roles were quite different. | 9. | zephyrscarlet A very good plot and I think it's rather refreshing to watch a dorama as uncommon as this. I remember laughing so hard whenever Nagase Tomoya pretends not to be a Yakuza member. He is really hot but he's not afraid to unglamourise himself. This is definitely one of my top 5 drama! | 10. | zushan One of my first J-doramas, when I first started watching. It truly showed me why I should stay with watching these over the Western shows. It has everything! Emotion/Comedy/action. You name it! Cheesy, yet hilarious! I've seen it thrice and I wouldn't mind watching it again :). | 11. | Kawaii Kinomoto the best drama ever!! it's so hilarious! the cast is great and fit the roles so well!! luv all the characters!! makky, kazuya, sakura nantoka, hikari, hoshino!! except mikky should burn in hell!! he needs to die!! but ahhh the show is getting so good now!! | 12. | hawkz714 only watch 2 episode but definitely fall in love with this dorama.. and can't wait to see next episode!! nagase can really make faces..my friend said his faces is really suitable to be a cartoon character!!luv nagase!!~waterrr~~~heheh | 13. | ScrappedShinigami Had to go up there because it's one of the funniest shows I ever saw! Putting Nagase in the role of Maki was an awarding winning choice. His acting and facial expressions are priceless.
