| 1. | Heart-wrenching [Rating: 10/10] Cast:
Kaneshiro Takeshi as Keigo Ishikawa
Kyoko Fukada as Masaki Kyouno.
Plot:
Many themes have been incorporated into this Japanese TV series, such as HIV, friendship, bullying, abortion, parentage and of course, love.
The story revolves around Masaki, a swoony 16-year-old high school student who is an avid fan of Keigo, a music producer. In order to get enough money to buy the tickets for his concert, Masaki engages in a night of sexual intercourse with a complete stranger.
After attending the concert, Masaki and Keigo met up by chance. Keigo bought Masaki to his home where he was entranced by her bubbly and naïve nature. After this one nightstand, Masaki left his house, having no regrets at all.
Three months later, Keigo came back from his music tour and chose to meet up with Masaki. However, Masaki at that time found herself HIV positive. And through here the story continues to unveil itself where Keigo and Masaki’s relationship continue to develop, from sympathy to friendship to love. Throughout this time, Keigo stayed by Masaki’s side, supporting her without truly understanding his underlying feelings for her and in the end, falling in love with her.
A heartwrenching drama of two lovers caught in a tangled web.
Please God Give Me More Time is exactly what these characters needed in the end to finally be with each other. Including horrendous obstacles and fiery battles between two women (over a guy (Takeshi Kaneshiro)) this drama is one of the best. Takeshi Kaneshiro plays the dark and disturbed music composer, Keigo. He does a wonderful job, and he's so cute!
In this movie, Takeshi is 26 where as Kyoko Fukada is 17...wow, a nine years age gap...eh...well that's not so bad.
I'm 17 and now Takeshi's 33. now there's an age gap. hahaha
Anywho, good movie, a must see if you like One liter of Tears!
Hahaha, i got my Aunt addicted to this...so it MUST be good, ne? | Reviewed by Lissy24 on 5 August 2006 | 2. | Moments [Rating: 8/10] In spite of the spotting writing, innane plot with hundreds of holes, weak characters (Masaki, yes Kyoko is cute, but she can't act!), and overt dramatics (cue, lots of crying, or characters running desperately in the rain accompanied by a piano soundtrack; or plently of sepia toned flashbacks), there was enough in this series to make it very good.
Takeshi's acting of the character (as long as one ignores the character's occupation and celebrity status), especially the changes in his personality, held most of the series together. There were some truly great moments that made one forget about all the problems in the series, such as the end of the first episode. Similarly the very end of the series was probably the best ending of all, with a sharpness that was further emphasized by its adruptness and quick cut to the theme song. Truly an expectional (and heart rendering) ending. Probably made the entire series.
The theme song by Luna Sea is one of the strong points, and good use of it (most of the time; the exceptions include some strange echo-cuts), along with the opening title sequence emphasizes alot of the plot. For instance, as stated above, during the first and last episodes.
Overall, there is too much exception stuff in this series in spite of its lumpiness. The themes of alienation, prosecution, loneliness, family and social pressures, tend to wallow about obtusely until a moment of brilliance (parent-child relations; scene where Masaki's mother runs after her in the street, telling Masaki she would do anything to make her well). The series has too many of these moments of great clarity, in effect, negating some of the tediousness (and incredulous) plot, poor characterization, and weak acting. | Reviewed by mdz on 10 October 2005 | 3. | Its more annoying then sad. [Rating: 6/10] I have to admit the acting was good, characters were good. Story plot stunk and waaaaaay to unrealistic to even get into it. Its not sad at all, its just plain annoying and no common sense in this film.
It gets pretty annoying when you have to deal with a spoiled, selfish high school girl, always wanting her way in almost every episode. And a cheating mom character that gets on your nerves. What is unrealistic is that, you have a rich healthy musician who goes out with a high school girl, not to mention spoiled, selfish annoying high school girl, knowing that she has AIDS, he still sleeps with her and has unprotected sex, later on she gets pregnant and a healthy girl is born, HAHAHA, what a joke. Every single common sense is broken in this line of series.
The only character that I truely enjoyed and really felt sad for is the father figure. Who works hard, supporting his family, while his good for nothing wife cheats, his daughter is just plain spoiled and selfish gets AIDS sleeping around... I felt so bad for him for having such a crazy stupid family when he is the most honest hardworking characters of them all.... Everyone else can go to hell... The director lost his common sense, what was he thinking?!?!?! | Reviewed by makusu on 27 January 2006 | 4. | Grows on You [Rating: 7/10] It took me a few episodes to actually get into the drama. The first four or five episodes were not gripping at all, but I was surprised to see that this changed. Kaneshiro Takeshi did an excellent job. He was really convincing in his role. Fukada Kyoko was good, although at times it looked as if she were trying too hard. I found her character a little problematic. It was hard to sympathize with her at first, because her character was so stupid and self-serving. But then I realized in later episodes that teenagers really are stupid and self-serving, and that the drama was actually being realistic. Itfs rare for me to change my opinion of a drama, but this one succeeded in doing so.
Nakama Yukie did an excellent job, even though her character was extremely annoying. The drama is full of angst, but pulls together in the final episodes. I was a little peeved by the scene of Fukadafs characterfs death. I felt it was overly dramatic and overly done. But in all, it was a good drama and worth at least a glance. | Reviewed by Wynter on 20 August 2006 | 5. | Despite all odds.. [Rating: 9/10] Despite all odds, the main girl Kano Masaki really strived to make the most out of her life. The main complaints people have about this drama is that it's "unrealistic". I personally don't think so. They say it's unrealistic for a teenage girl to prostitute herself? No. They say it's unrealistic for a famous musician to fall for a high school girl? Not really; it's UNLIKELY, but not unrealistic. The emotions that both Kano Masaki and Ishikawa Keigo and everyone around them - friends, coworkers, family- is understandable and totally realistic. My only complaints is that it can be melodramatic (running in the rain, "i can't live without you", etc.) and often goes in circles (well, are they gonna finally be together or not?!), but overall i don't feel those problems are that bad.
The matters of loss, of broken families, of frustrations with career paths, searching for meaning in life, the cruelty of those who don't understand how you feel... this drama is more than just a mushy romance. Highly recommended. | Reviewed by megumi s. on 5 July 2006 | 6. | masaki killed the show [Rating: 6/10] masaki (played by fukuda) is incredibly annoying. cries every 10 minutes and is impossibly selfish, clingy, whiny, and inconsiderate of others. yes she's sick and all, but there's only so much sympathy and understanding you can juice out of it. (I do applaude her for her bravery in making that speech, though.) but i'm sure she cries in EVERY episode (and she does this heavy breathing thing when she does that is SO annoying).
plot also doesn't make sense but most drama series don't really anyway so that's tolerable. the only reason i'm able to stand the over the top plot and fukuda's character is because takeshi is in the drama.
the mom is kind of annoying at times (i'm not a very positive person so super cheerful people get on my nerves), but i'm sure a lot of people would be thankful to have a mother as understanding as her.
about the way everyone reacts to someone with aids is pretty sad too. i'd like to think that the japanese have more knowledge and understanding about the disease.. | Reviewed by tklover on 31 January 2007 | 7. | Weepy [Rating: 8/10] It's one of those shows that you watch with the understanding right from the start that you're probably going to cry... a lot. This, Beautiful Life, 1 Litre of Tears...
But that makes what you see even more touching when you know the outcome. It really is a great show to watch. Fukada Kyoko got on my nerves a bit.... bit Kaneshiro Takeshi is just... well he's gorgeous...
The series is rather unrealistic at times, but that is really rather expected from a drama. The story itself was a rather interesting take on the usual love problems storyline... And I don't think I would have wanted to watch it if everything had gone wrong, which granted would probably have been more realistic. The story is original, but a bit unrealistic at the same time. Themes like AIDS, family, friendship, love, life's importance are so well approached that will let you think about them after the end of every each episode. There's intensity in this show, in every scene, in every dialogue.
Takeshi Kaneshiro is brilliant but Kyoko made it. Of course she cries a lot and it can be a little boring at times, but she did a great perfomance on it. Maybe the only one good perfomance she did.
This drama deserves a 10, but since is a bit unrealistic, I would give it a 9.

I did feel sympathy for the characters to be sure but not as intimately as I would have expected given the gravity of the plot. | 1. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 8/10] I would actually give this drama an 8.5/10.
The cast and acting was great. I've seen Fukada Kyoko in other roles such as "SOS" and "Minami-kun" which I very much disliked so it was surprising that I found her acting in this earlier series to be very good. She had great chemistry with Takeshi Kaneshiro, who as always, acted superbly. The emotions that they brought forth with one another when they were together were very heartwarming.
In the beginning, I was a bit turned off by the ridiculousness of her character - prostituting herself to buy tickets and her extreme fanaticism with Keigo Ishikawa. But towards the end, I really warmed up to her character. The ending of this series was pretty good although a litle cliche, while the series as a whole was pretty far-fetched. But it's a good and touching series to watch, some of the scenes in the last episode made me tear up. (But as a whole, the drama wasn't as much of a tearjerker as I initially thought it would be.) | 2. | Comments by occultangle [Rating: 9/10] This is really heavy stuff. Normally I try to stay away from dramas that deal with various mortal illnesses in this direct a manner, but something about someone as cute as Fukada Kyouko with aids in a love story seems like something I had to watch.@The thing is that honestly her acting comes off less like a teenager, but rather more like a five year old. Itfs the kind of thing a person is either really going to love or hate, and though I can understand people being on the other side, I am clearly in the camp of those who love it. I find her acting so adorable that I can totally see myself being a rock star like personality with my choice of hundreds of hot girls, but end up throwing myself off of bridges out of my love for some dumb high school girl with aids. Of course if you have seen any other drama she stars in, you wonft be surprised by her character, but what is different is seeing her usual childish character dealing with a such a serious illness. | 3. | Comments by Michi [Rating: 10/10] Frankly at first, buying and watching this kind of drama is way beyond my mind. Kaneshiro Takeshi very arragont and lonely in the first few episodes but as the series goes on and he meets Fukuda Kyoko`s character, he realises that he needs her in his life as much as she needs him after she contracts the HIV virus, prostituting in order to get some money for Keigo`s concert (Kaneshiro). Very touching and I hate nakama yukie s character in this....she is a jealous, annoying character and I`ve never really liked her as an actress anyways and this series did not help with that perception. deals with a topic that isn't easy to talk about in Japan. Fukada Kyoko is very cute but very stupid! Anyway, this is a revolutionary dorama but I would have apreciated that they used this opportunity to deliever a clearer message of contraception. It's never said in the dorama that you should use condom and I do think it's a big shame. It's still a problem in Japan, girls are too frightened to ask their boyfriends to use one. I have friends in Japan suffering of this society problem. The most strange time in this dorama is when Fukada makes love with Keigo without condom even though they both know that she has aids! So stupid! | 6. | Comments by Sorata [Rating: 7/10] This dorama started in avery awesome away and the first half was great, but the later half was a litle boring and Masaki(Fukada Kyoko) became really annoying.
Fukada KyokoLs performance wasnLt that good, but for a 16 year old girl and playing a character with a terminal desease she was very good, every 16 year old actor in my country are really awufull.

She and Kaneshiro Takeshi do a spectucular job of portraying extremely poignant emotions as a cynical song writer and a high school age girl with HIV in love. The first episode didn't really appeal to me for some reason, but I really became involved with the story as I continued watching. I also thought that Haruhiko Kato did an outstanding job as well. A great ost, a slightly controversial story and a brilliant cast. Takeshi Kaneshiro's monologue in the beginning is one of my favourite lines in a Japanese drama. That few lines sums up his character before he met Masaki, and gradually you see the thawing of his character as the story progresses. Kyoko Fukada is convincing in her role as an aimless teenager before she knew her time was limited.

What I really liked about this drama was that it didn't preach, it just told the story about the girl, her wrong choices, and the outcome. After a while, the main story focused on an unbelievable romance between her and a famous songwriter and the HIV/AIDs part took a backseat. Though it was far-fetched, I thought it was a great drama for its time and I enjoyed it a lot. | 15. | Comments by krissblade [Rating: ?/10] If you want to watch this one. Camp out with a box of tissues!!! I cried and bawled so hard at the end that I didn't want to watch another sad drama in a long while. This was the first time I watched Kyoko Fukuda (sp?). She is a very good young actress. When I was in high school, I really liked Takshi Kaneshiro. I think this drama addresses some issues in society that people don't really want to look at or think that those things cannot happen to them. | 16. | Comments by ABINTRA [Rating: 3/10] Surprisingly bad. I was looking forward to watching this drama for a long time because I thought the title was pretty and poetic, but I laughed more than I cried... and not when I was supposed to be laughing. The heroine was so whiny and annoying, I actually started rooting for her death. I watched it all the way through, but I am a perfectionist who must finish tasks, so that doesn't mean much. Pros: Pretty opening video and title; not boring, just lame. | 17. | Comments by strawberrynkiwi [Rating: 9/10] A great drama to show the problems with HIV & AIDS. I must say I was disappointed with Fukada's acting, she really didn't convinced me as a girl who was positive & strong. I didn't really feel connected until I think the last episode with the baby, I started crying like no tomorrow. Overall, I loved it. Kaneshiro did a great job, very very cool his character =) The song "In The Sky" is really good, which made me get into the drama more^^ | 18. | Comments by aki_07 [Rating: 6/10] Typical merry-go-round drama! My friend cried like hell but to me it felt like a broken record. It was touching initially but got on my nerves after a while when incidents kept disrupting the romance just when it was about to bloom. Why so tragic?! The writer got carried away & thre logic out of the window! I watched all the way because of Kaneshiro. Sountrack by Luna Sea was unforgetable | 19. | Comments by underthesky [Rating: 7/10] The more you see, the more you want to see... And I cry at almost every episodes... the last episode is the worst.. i mean, that's when i really really cry so much... that movie is my "sandwich of happiness". Plus, Takeshi is there.. He's great. Ending is good.. the more you follow, the more you want to follow... But Actually.. there are some exaggerated and stupid plots... So yah.. | 20. | Comments by IkematsuSosuke [Rating: 5/10] I give this drama a 5..one point for each for the four first episodes that I liked..and one for the subject matter.
I couldn't finish this drama..stopped at episode 9..I couldn't stand Fukada's character..she was just a spoiled b***h..I also didn't feel the connection between her and Keigo..also each episode have the same boring annoying feeling.
This drama was not for me. | 21. | Comments by hsiuting2003 [Rating: 10/10] I love it! I Love it! I Love it! I personally think it's as good as Beautiful Life. I seriously cried in every episode. Masaki is so brave...I really admired her character. I recommend this to everyone who likes a good sappy, inspirational drama. One thing though, I didn't like much was the ending...it just kinda hangs you there...so. But all around great. | 22. | Comments by Tomokochan [Rating: 10/10] A very touching story . It has been a long time since I cried when watching a film but this time my tears can't stop falling down. I'm very happy seeing Kyoko in this film. She act so well, I'm not wrong when chosing her as my idol :) .Kaneshiro is good too! I love Keigo's charaters :) This will be my all-time favourite film!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | 23. | Comments by tachan [Rating: 9/10] Really kept me entertained and I thought the love story was cute. The cliffhangers made me want to see the next episode right away each time. Interesting parts of this drama was how the lead was a male singer (entertainment world) and the subject of a young girl dealing with HIV (which something I haven't seen covered in jdrama before). | 24. | Comments by itsonlykat [Rating: 10/10] Nice one starring kyoko fukado, and takeshi kaneshiro, i cried throughout every episodes, it was very moving and the theme songs fits the story very well, i love shizuko kudo's voice when she sang the two main themes of the drama. It was "Kirara" , "In the Sky". Also the song by Luna Sea "I For You"... Overall Highly recommended!!!!! | 25. | Comments by MissMonika [Rating: 7/10] A really touching, also at the same time, really sad and depressing drama. The story is good, and the overall theme is versatile. But homegirl, Fukada Kyoko, needs some serious acting lessons. She needs to show more emotion and not use the same tone all the time. But I LOVE Kaneshiro Takeshi. He's so great, and so gorgeous. | 26. | Comments by majinbads [Rating: 7/10] Superb, moving performance by Kyoko Fukada. Hail the teen queen of tears. Too bad Takeshi Kaneshiro doesnt match Kyokos performance. The director had to hide Kaneshiros eyes behind dark shades for his apparent inability to show much emotion in this tearjerker. Will make you cry (even for guys). A good watch. | 27. | Comments by yume [Rating: 8/10] Fukada Kyoko was given a role that stood apart from her previous cutesy, candy-sugar-coated characters and shined more than I thought! A serious drama that keeps you watching. It is ashame her later works turned out to be disappointing, especially since her start seemed so promising with a challenging role. | 28. | Comments by glayjiro1017 [Rating: 9/10] Haven't finished watching this one yet. =/
The story is really gripping.
Kaneshiro Takeshi is so mysterious!
Fukada Kyoko is a youngin in this one.
I think this was her debut drama? Not sure.
I love it. ED Theme by Luna Sea is awesome!
This drama another love/romance story that just gets to me. | 29. | Comments by zoqh [Rating: 8/10] takeshi ......u know that....
I like takeshi kaneshiro play acting!!!
Great man!!! ....hm.hm..hm... just all (2)
The story is original, but a bit unrealistic at the same time.
I watched all the way because of Kaneshiro. Soundtrack by Luna Sea was very unforgetable.
kaneshiro was hot, as always... ^^ | 30. | Comments by chobits [Rating: 10/10] u won't regret to buy and watch it. fukakyo and kaneshiro are really good artistes. kaneshiro done a good job as a playboy :) it's a sad love story that shows how people are willing to do anything for love. but i think most people will expected the ending. it's one of the best drama i've ever watched. |

1. | occultangle This is really heavy stuff. | 2. | milkdrinker2002 The Drama that gets me into J-drama..!!! Very very sad & touching.....! You really need to get a box of tissue by your side...>_<. Even tho you are the kind of person that dont cry easily, grab a box of tissue JUST IN CASE!!! Kyoko's 1st drama, not bad for a newbie like her back then...! Masaki-(Kyoko) had learned how to be strong & fight against this deadly disease with the help from Keigo. KYOKO looks very very CUTE to me no matter when she cry or smile, she just so pretty.....Yahoooo! Keigo-(Keneshiro Takeshi) looks like a Asian Version of Terminator to ME.!!! He looks Very cool with his long hair & sun glasses. This is DEFINITELY A MUST WATCH drama.....!!!^_~ | 3. | Coolsmurf this was my first ever drama that i watched and i have never regretted my choice. the story was very dark and showed how people's perspective is changed the moment after learning they are HIV positive. throughout this drama, you will see kyoko character trying to focus on her life ambitions instead of her disease and her relationship with kaneshiro character was simply heartwrenching. they really made the show look very real and coupled with excellent instrumental music makes it even better while watching it. I highly recommend watching it but it's very sad! | 4. | ashley My favourite Japanese drama. Sometimes it does take something like that before you realise what you have been missing and what you are searching for. | 5. | kantflixion -takeshi kaneshiro is fine! i watched all of his chinese movies, and his role in the j-drama is really the coolest he's ever taken. his whole image changed after taking on this role - from cute to manly. and he's proven that he's a convincing dramatic actor as well,
-great music
-kyoko fukada is moving
-1st time I ever saw Nakama Yukie - really made an impression on me, watched her other dramas since then, didn't realize she had such a long resume, great actress | 6. | Aki A classic dorama hit that shot Fukada Kyouko to stardom. It's a nice, dreamy story that fulfills the imagination of girl fans like me to a certain extent. In retrospect, it was also considered a liberal dorama during its time, taking on issues about HIV aka Aids and exposing the practice of high school gals' secret aruibaito (part-time). | 7. | miumiu_sky Really nice drama, so touching!! This was the first j-dorama I've watched and since than I'm hooked watching other j-doramas! Really recommend to ya all~~ Takeshi was so handsome in this dorama and Kyoko is so cute! | 8. | kipas absolute tear-jerker! fits to be shown for educational purposes, like AIDS week, etcetc...fukada gave a great head- start, I think, better than Kaneshiro in this drama... | 9. | dy_ans it was great dorama....very touching.....very emotional....I watched this drama many times.....and still make me cry.....takeshi and kyoko are very good in this movie.... | 10. | moon i Love this drama a lot~~~ since the second episode up to the last... it makes me cry so much.... it is my first drama that ive watch and its great... I adore too the song of luna sea "I for you", it is splendid. | 12. | chime.gochan the story is touching....misaki's reason for wanting to earn money for the ticket is a lack of foresight though, but the story is good....so good | 13. | henry012 another story about diseases yet so different than others. good acting and story are very powerful and very touching throughout the series | 14. | ila get ya hankies at the ready! not gona happen in real life, but sure keeps ya hangin til the end. great actin, plus luv the great tunes | 15. | cheery Not the 1st Jap Drama i've watched but it was the one that attracted me to watch more Jap dramas and really like the characters. | 16. | tikleabubble Definitely one of the best around.
