| 1. | An Emotionally Powerful Bittersweet Romance Story [Rating: 10/10] From the writer of the popular drama Long Vacation, comes a tale of a talented hair stylist and a librarian living with a handicap, set against the backdrop of Aoyama. Bringing these two characters to life and together are the one-two angst punch of Kimura Takuya (from Long Vacation, in the role of Okishima Shuji, the stylist), and Tokiwa Takako (from Utsukushi Hito, in the role of Machida Kyoko). Appearing in supporting roles are Mizuno Miki (currently starring in Hatsu Taiken, she portrayed Kyoko's best friend Tamura Sachi), Ikeuchi Hiroyuki (from GTO [Drama], in the role of Shuji's kohai [junior] Okabe Takumi), and the most memorable performance within this series comes from actor Watabe Atsuro, playing Kyoko's younger brother Masao.
Machida Kyoko and Okishima Shuji have a chance encounter in the streets of Aoyama. With a carelessly outstretched hand from the window of her car, she nearly knocks Shuji from his motorcycle. After a terse exchange, they find that they have ac ommon destination; the library where Kyoko is employed. Following another short exchange, Kyoko's handicap is revealed in a rather gentle way, and our story unfolds.
This series lasts eleven episodes and will not fail to tickle your funny bone from the start, then begin tugging at your heart until the very end. Keep a box of tissue handy, as the depth of these characters are superbly potrayed by this cast, not to mention the realism of the story masterfully written by Kitagawa Eriko. This was the highest rated drama in its season in Japan, and the last episode kept them talking for quite a while after. | Reviewed by otaking on 21 July 2002 | 2. | Beautiful Drama [Rating: 10/10] Itfs really hard for me to come up with enough things to say about this drama. I mean, when you watch such a brilliant work of art, the artists involved donft leave the opportunity for you to grasp onto something and express its faults.
Beautiful Life is just a grand, heartwarming drama that touches the soul. At has everything for the serious romantic: Romance, lust, angst, heartache, fluff, truth, etc. The storyline was written with incredible emotion and the plot was performed with a will of its own. The pairing of Kimura Takuya and Tokiwa Takako was perfect. I was really impressed with Takako, since this was my first time seeing her in a drama. Ifve seen Takuya in Pride, and although he plays a similar role in this drama, it was perfect for the character. Yet again he managed to capture his audience with the emotion he emits from his eyes | much in the same way Takakofs emotions blossomed from her incredible smile.
The sub-plots were nicely woven into the main plot, but I almost wish that the drama had extended to include another episode. I found the last few episodes a bit rushed and I would have liked to see more of Shujifs and Kyokofs life while living together. This, of course, is merely a selfish whim of mine.
This was altogether a beautiful drama, and I highly recommend it to all. | Reviewed by Wynter on 5 January 2007 | 3. | The Greatest Japanese Dorama EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only is it a good drama it is the second drama that i ever watched it is the best drama that i have seen. still to this day. i dont think that there is or will ever be a drama to top this one i should have voted for this earlier. It is such a good story and it remindes be of my own troubles. As a disabled person Kyoko reminded me about how i felt at times being in a weelchair. Its it a very important drama to me. if anyone hasn't seen it you guys need to. It was the best drama this i have ever seen and i have seen alot of dramas believe me. I watched the whole thing in one day when i was sick and i had to stay home from schoo about 2 or 3 years ago. I have only watched it all the way though once. Such a good story this will be a part of my collection agian one day i just have to wait. I need the JTV episodes agian. Takuya and Takako did a wonderfull performance one of the best performances I have ever seen in my life. I love beautiful life and you guys should watch it.
I have it now old review from vote!!!! | Reviewed by johuth on 9 December 2004 | 4. | Beautiful Life [Rating: 10/10] My first Drama! I am now the newest fan of TakuKimu! I rushed watching this drama in 2 nites before I left for a trip. I immediately was taken by this artfully directed, acted, written drama. I espeically LOVE the monologue, it made me feel warmly connected to the main characters. When I popped in the 2nd 3-hour DVD, I never stopped reaching for tissues till the very end. Next morning, I woke up with swollen eyes and had to use ice pak 4 times before I could leave the house!
Luckily, I was in AZ 2 days later, bought a "Dream Catcher", like the one Kyoko bought for Shuji in Grand Canyon. Not that I need something to remember "Beautiful Life" by, but it was more of a token for feeling lucky to be embraced by this wonderful drama, introduced to the acting talents of Takuya & Tokiwa & future exploration for more excellent jdorama.
The heartfelt emotions (warmth, sadness, the power of unconditional love.....) stayed with me for over 1 week now. [Rating: 10/10] I admit I haven't seen this one yet, but I think it's going to be shown here in the Philippines...hopefully. Anyway, this reminded me of an old American tv-movie entitled "Leave Yesterday Behind", which was made in 1978. Unlike "Beautiful Life", "Leave Yesterday Behind" also deals with a paraplegic... but here, it's a man (played by John Ritter) who got wheelchair-bound after falling off a horse during a riding accident. He goes to a vacation in his grandpa's ranch, and there, meets this pretty horse trainer (Carrie Fisher) who told him to get a life. They eventually fell in love with each other, but the dilemma here is that the girl is engaged to be married to her fiance. Even though I haven't seen both, I can judge that both dramas have a touching and endearing story--"Beautiful Life" and "Leave Yesterday Behind". I wish somebody would make a Jdorama version of "Leave Yesterday Behind". I hope it'll be better than the original. | Reviewed by Aprhodite_in_Red on 19 September 2005 | 6. | Hmm...nothing spectacular... [Rating: 7/10] First and foremost...I have to say that this is indeed a heart warming drama, which is at the same time inspiring. But to say that this drama deserves to be addressed as a "classic" is too far-fetched.The story opens with a typical hate-u-so-much realtionship that develops into a do-I-like-him/her thingy.Well, though used over and over agiam....I guess we still enjoy watching sweet bickering between the leads. However, the story soon develops a slower than slow-mo pace, which makes it tiring to watch. The pace picks up in the last few episodes, but I guess by then viewers have became numb to the developments.(unless of coz, staring at Takuya's face is entertaining to you...which is to me...hmmhmm)So the plot moves to a predictable ending(which became predictable after the middle episodes).Though touching,it fails to impress. Thus this drama can only be said as a quality star-studded production, but not a classic. | Reviewed by GunGod on 20 June 2001 | 7. | Consuming... [Rating: 10/10] I find it rather difficult trying to rate this show by its actors/actresses, since either way I deny the story its true nature with labels. Beautiful Life is arguably one of the most thoughtfully written tragedies I have ever seen, in all of the entertainment I have explored.
Like Summer Snow, the story began with a rather silly, non-sensical taste of humor. It sat on my brain for a few episodes, until the real story begins. Then, as soon as the dark aura begins to eminate around the series, I started to cherish a relationship I honestly couldn't say I could have of my own. It starts to degrade, very slowly, into a powerful, consuming conclusion - and ends with a smile.
Prepare lots of tissues, and try to look at it with an open heart - a series like this is the key to art-influenced epiphanies. | Reviewed by requiem on 1 March 2005 | 8. | Very good, but not the best [Rating: 8/10] The first 4 episodes didn't catch me too much, but I watched until the end because I just wanted to know what would happen in the end - at the 4th episode, you know something sad would happen. I liked Kimutaku in this series, his acting sounds so natural and funny in this, yet I don't think his dramatic skills are that good.
First time I watched Takako's acting (she's been dissapeared from drama series, isn't she?) and loved her. Her voice is strong, not that cute-childish-fragile thing that most japanese girls have, which it makes her different from the others.
Miki Mizuno and Takako's brother are SO funny, liked both of them.
The splot is good and makes you think about the condition of people in wheelchairs - it's not that easy to live like this.
A worth watching specially for the end!!! | Reviewed by shiruchsn on 13 November 2004 | 9. | Well done [Rating: 8/10] Even though the end is predictable somehow, I was able to watched it till the end and with satisfaction, unlike korean sad story dramas , that some of them I am not able to finish watching because they are soooo dramatic. This story, although not original, but the plot was good because it was not all dramatic till the end actually. And for kyoko's attitude is hard to criticize because handicap people really face lots of problems and a lot of complex for their dishabilities so I guess she was the way she had to be in the story.
This is my first sad jdrama, and the first drama I have seen with these two main actors but I can tell I like it very much.

NOW FOR THE PPL giving this Drama bad scores, if you read what they said, for example, Comment#28, gave it 3 BECAUSE it doesnt have twisted ending?!?!?! and couple other's gave it bad score because it is tragic/depressing!?!?!?!
To conclude, if you like Drama's that are very emotional and want to cry or to. Watch This... If you dont like sad endings, tragic story line, sad stuff... This is NOT for you...

The story is slow and subtle, but I very much prefer subtlety over abruptness. The drama is a must watch, not because it is "beautiful" or "heart warming," which it is, but also because the drama provides great insights and perspectives into the daily life of the disabled. For years I have wondered how it would be like to live with a disability, and during certain periods, I tried to replicate disabilities like not utilizing my arm(s) or leg(s), but it wasn't the same. This drama did a great job in portraying how it's like to live with disabilities and to feel disabled. That's how this drama got my 10 stars. | Reviewed by Liquid Lion on 29 September 2002 | 12. | Touching [Rating: 8/10] This is really a simple story about a man and a woman, and the story that develops between them. What makes this drama so great is character development. This drama doesn't overdo the touchy emotional parts, but I was still touched because the characters started developing from the get go. Also, there are no real sub plots, or any other distractions that takes you away from what is happening between the two. By the end, you have grown so attached to the characters that you really want them to get together and wish for a happy ending.
I believe this drama is so popular is because it is wonderfull in its simplicity. This is not to say that this drama was flawless from the start. Of course every drama has its downside. One flaw that i'll extort in particular is this drama was verrrry slow. I almost had to force myself to watch sometimes. At one point I was more interested in the side stories rather than the main Shuji and Kyoko relationship. It was not until the end where I really got interested in the story. The ending of the story was obviously predicatable. It is as if I were bracing my self for a punch in the stomach; the question to ask was "when?". And of course episode 11 was the most appropriate place =) | 14. | So-So [Rating: 6/10] Before I got my hands on this one, I heard that it's one of the more melancholic dramas out there, and that it's also one of Kimura Takuya's more famous and more successful dramas. After watching it for a while, I found the pace to be sluggish, and that the plot can be predictable. (esp. with the slogan "the days when we two are together") I have had this dorama for more than 2 years and still I haven't finished it.
I guess that there are more interesting doramas out there. As for Kimura Takuya's doramas, I'd much rather recommend to you his Long Vacation or Hero.
Good theme song by B'z nonetheless though. | Reviewed by nhk9 on 25 February 2006 | 15. | Not perfect, but highly recommended [Rating: 8/10] A heartwarming/heartbreaking story of finding and fighting for love.
Two characters fighting against each other for much of the series only to finally come together in the face of tragedy. Captures some good themes about beauty and honesty but perhaps falls short of true greatness - the idea of 'life as beauty' only get a cursory examination and could be so much more deeply explored with the same characters. The characters are for the most part very well played. Certain scenes in the end (and likely throughout) will require a handy box of tissues to mop up your face. | Reviewed by phlargo on 24 April 2008 | 16. | Really beautiful! Well, he can act when the character is behaving like Kimura is in real life I guess, but that's about it. His range of acting is really really limited, which really detracts from those otherwise great shows that he's in. He is utterly unconvincing in any scene that demands deep emotions. | 1. | Comments by koalabear [Rating: 6/10] Why such a low score? Interesting questions. OK Kimura is fabulous in this. He looks pretty bad I must say and I'm not a huge fan of the whole "stylish" character but he is extremely genuine, honest, sincere and kind in this jdorama. Completely convincing - you just have to love Shuji because he's such a great guy. It's to Kimura's credit that even though he doesn't look his best in this (looks tired, skin is bad - looks very luckluster) that you just love Shuji anyway.
I think the problem is, while I did like Kyoko as a character - there was very little chemistry between Kyoko and Shuji. Partly because ՋMq persists in playing Kyoko with an almost witless wide-eyed-ness which is a bit weird..... that being said, there are some wonderful moments - moving the wheelchair with the feet, Shuji's declarations... discussions with the brother etc.
The drama is very uneven. There are moments which it really drags, and then other moments when it's very interesting. Towards the end, it is (as you know) extremely sad) and Kimura is excellent. The famous final scene is just as wonderful and reassuring as I was led to believe and the feeling of healing and love you receive is extremely wonderful. I still watch bits of this drama again, I just wish the chemistry was better and that ՋMq didn't always play Kyoko in such a spoilt / bratty fashion ..... Yes yes, I know her life was difficult, but Shuji was sooooooo loving and understanding .... sometimes Kyoko was just so annoying to him :) | 2. | Comments by Mimori [Rating: 10/10] *sigh
What else can I say about this drama except that it is the most heartwarming yet saddening drama I've watched. And this was, I think, the third j-drama I watched. I watched it with my best friend and we both ended up crying like babies, while eating ice cream to minimize the sadness. xD
The acting was really great, this drama made me like KimuTaku. The chemistry between the actors is excellent and they did a great job of portraying the challenges that living with a disability brings. I agree that at times the story was slow but that's to be expected since it's depicting a human drama, and let's face it some days our real lives are pretty dull.
Even so, the plot is very moving, it makes you feel sad, happy, angry but above all it gives you a lesson of what love, real "I'll be by your side no matter what" love is really about, while also making you realize that you only have one life and you should really treasure your past, live fully in your present, and look forward to your future, even if it might not come.
Oh also, I almost fell backwards when I realized that Nishikawa Takanori was Satoru. He did a great job here. TM Revolution, banzai. \o/ | 3. | Comments by kumukurukuk [Rating: 10/10] very touching, simple story yet sweet and heartwarming!!! they are such a cute couple. As usual Kimutaku is Hot !!!! Cried at the end.
I think the drama is more about how shuji and kyoko handles their relationship in the midst of Kyoko's doubts and low self confidence. Kyoko has given up a lot of things, she basically closed her heart and this is what they need to overcome to be able to be together and to maintain their relationship. At first I did not understand why MAsao, Kyoko's brother did not want her going out with shuji and I think its more than wanting her sister not to get hurt, I think he feels some resentment towards the situation. Before the family provided her with happiness, love and support. To be able to provide these things to her and attend to her sister Masao did not pursue his own dreams and stayed with the family business. Now that Shuji takes this role from the family, Masao may feel that all his sacrifice was for nothing since another person is able to give kyoko the happiness, love, support etch. The ending was great, Kimutaku is such a hunk!!!!! Inever get tired of staring at him | 4. | Comments by WhiteHawk [Rating: 10/10] Although it's a "KimuTaku drama", Tokiwa Takako absolutely shines in this tissue-box-emptying series. As the relationship between her character and KimuTaku's character develops, she comes out of her shell and puts into words complex personal issues many people probably overlook about disabled folks. It's so sweet to watch her character start out self-absorbed and bitter, but gradually open up about her vulnerabilities and finally embrace (and express) true joy. The supporting cast also did an excellent job, most notably Omori Akemi and Watabe Atsuro, playing Kyoko's mother and brother, respectively.
Just brace yourself for the inevitable.
I rounded my score up from a 9.75 out of 10. The only disappointment was that more time wasn't spent on Shuji and Kyoko's happy times after they moved in together. | 5. | Comments by zileas [Rating: 6/10] As with many of the dramas involving a handicapped or sick main character, it tries to portray everyday life, the seemingly small yet important moments, the things we take for granted, the beauty of life. However, despite the title, it didn't rise much above average. The dialogue is awkward, and although it is intentional to reflect the main characters slightly dishonest personalities, it doesn't convey much emotion. As a result, the main characters were rather dull and unengaging. Also, all the "coincidences" that caused misunderstandings, and lack of depth in both characters and plot didn't help either. Summarized it's more of a regular relationshipsdrama with an OK pace. It doesn't use the illness-concept to bring a new level in either understanding or emotion, as some better counterparts do in this genre. | 6. | Comments by ilovetakuya [Rating: 7/10] This drama was pretty good. The plot is too simple though.. I was bored occasionally.. Sometimes, I admit I had to force myself to watch this. However, I still give this drama 7 because of very good ending. This drama got better after ep.8, and ep.11 was very good and touching. Kimura Takuya gave very solid performance here. Some of the lines were very touching too.
It wasn't as sad as I wished it would be, though.. I think this drama is a little bit overrated because of its high ratings.
Tokiwa Takako didn't really have any chemistry with Kimura Takuya.
I think my expectations were too high because of the name values of Kitagawa Eriko and Kimura Takuya. This drama is good, but it could have been better | 7. | Comments by occultangle [Rating: 5/10] This is the perfect example of the one complaint I have against Japanese television and films. The over abundance of portrayals of sick, crippled, cancer patients etc. And if you have seen one, you know how every other one will end. It's not that I always expect happy endings, but enough is enough already. I can never understand why it is that people always seem to rave about about these types of shows. It gives me the same feeling as when I visit someone in the hospital. Don't get me wrong, there's some really great acting and writing, and some of the dialogue is absolute genius. It really is a masterpiece, it's just a masterpiece I personaly wish I hadn't had the misfortune of having seen. | 8. | Comments by sirhin [Rating: 7/10] I liked it enough though some parts were somewhat too slow-moving for my tastes. It was rather touching at some points and light-hearted at others. Slightly mushy at one points, with the mandatory obstacles a couple encounters in typical dramas. All in all, I mostly watched this because of the good reviews I kept on reading and the plot appealed to me. Honestly, try it out and watch it! After all, I may be one of the atypical ones and you might just love it! All in all, it has a good plot and was pretty entertaining and it kept me hooked till the end. It's worth a try and is pretty good. My only complaint are the dialogue-only scenes. I'm not the most emotionally adept person out there. | 9. | Comments by jdfan [Rating: 10/10] Natural-flowing dialogs and acting from the two leads and supporting roles help this drama to glide easily. It strikes as very life-real with lots of pause between dialogs, but even then there's no wasted moment. A deep blow for Kitagawa Eriko, the screen-writer. But not recommended for those who like happy dramas though. Beautiful Life has a gem of a soundtrack with a superb main theme by B'z and heart-breaking numbers by Mizoguchi Hajime, a well-known cellist, who also composed music for "Hoshi No Ginka /Heaven's Coin 1 & 2".Convincing job form Takako Tokiwa again. I adored the moving but sad ending. Kimura and Tokiwa were a great combination! I wish to see them in another one. | 10. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 10/10] This is probably one of the most widely watched JDoramas ever next to "GTO" and "Long Vacation". In fact, I was introduced to this drama after watching "GTO" and this was when I fell in love with Kimura Takuya's acting. The story revolves around a hairstylist whose dream is to make people pretty so that they can be happy and a young, handicapped woman who is confined to a wheelchair for her entire life. Although they got into a few squabbles in the beginning, they soon became closer and fell in love with one another. The chemistry between Kimura Takuya and Tokiwa Takako was electric and it really added to the dramatics of the ending.
Highly recommended (don't forget tissues). | 11. | Comments by makimura_RAn [Rating: 10/10] The best dorama!
The story was so simple but so meaningful. When i saw this dorama, i just can say that the dorama was so good and perfect. Both Kimutaku and Tokiwa did a great job. The could show "something" between the two main character purely and deeply. Great acting i can say. The ending was so powerful to force the audience to see the scene. It really touched me. I love the white house and its setting in the end of the dorama. The ost by B'z (Konya Tsuki no Mieru Okani) also nice. It made the existence of this dorama and the story more and more. A must see for jdorama fan and off course Kimutaku and Tokiwa fans. Cheers for both of them!!!! Cheers for the writer!!!! | 12. | Comments by yuka [Rating: 9/10] A well-paced romantic story that moved one to chuckle at the beginning, dreamy in between and at the end teary-eyed. The pull from the stellar performance of Kimura and Tokiwa (an excellent match) is forceful.
Keenly perceptive in their respective roles, both gave a powerfully subtle performance. He, the kakkoii hairstylist of an uptown, trendy salon and she, the plucky handicapped librarian, fell irresistibly in love.
Through the course of the plot each was shown to struggle with their own hang-ups and insecurities. Both taking tentative steps closer to one another leading to a strongly growing steadfast relationship. | 13. | Comments by minochi99 [Rating: 9/10] A beautiful story and very touching. Great chemistry between Takako and Takuya. I enjoyed how they met, how they came to respect each other, then understand each other, and finally to love each other.
The two main characters definitely had spark on-screen. Also, appreciate seeing the treatment of handicap people in Japan. There's a lot of japanese dramas that deal with this subject. It might be b/c Japanese society still has issues when it comes to treating handicap people with respect and love. So, it's good to see subjects like this.
A heartfelt ending that I will remember. Highly recommended. | 14. | Comments by phlargo [Rating: 8/10] A heartwarming/heartbreaking story of finding and fighting for love.
| 15. | Comments by LoveMonster [Rating: 8/10] (Watched Eps 1-7- will update upon completion) A pair that are destined to tug at your heartstrings. The differences between the two leave their relationship perpetually doomed but like all love stories, the moments of happiness are worth all the pain. I love the idea. I was even reeled in by the gimmicky love triangles and been there/done misunderstandings that plague all relationships. But the writing would fall flat at times- periods of dullness that could be too much to put up with if you're not patient, or just looking for a quick easy ride. | 16. | Comments by Helena [Rating: 7/10] i actually have a very high expectation for this drama, since my fav takuya kimura is in it, but unfortunately, this drama has failed my expectation, although the idea of e story is good bt e way they narrate e story has failed - i think, n e character doesnt really interest me much either although i must say the main actor n actress have done good jobs, while e rest of e actors - i couldnt care less since their acting - below average, exp: e main actress big bro, OMG, so irritating 2 watch whenever his turn | 17. | Comments by matsu_takeiko [Rating: 9/10] This was a really great, touching drama, but I just feel a little... off because I didn't cry at the end unlike most of the people who watched this did. But the acting was great; story's superb as always (Eriko Kitagawa is just amazing). The way the uneasiness of Takuya and Takako's relationship was depicted was amazing, how each one is too proud to ask the other how they really feel, or too proud to reveal their feelings to each other. There's a feel of realism to it (or maybe I can just relate hehe). | 18. | Comments by Sorata [Rating: 9/10] Great dorama with some of the greatest dramatic moments i have ever seen.
KimuraLs character here is just like his character in Long Vacation and Love Generation, but i wonLt criticize this, that character is a winning formula for this kind of doramas.
Tokiwa Takako was really beatiful in this, she is one of the most likeable characters ever, i really cared about her character.
Another great Kimura dorama, but i believe that the plot and Tokiwa Takako were much more important in this than Kimura. | 19. | Comments by Anees [Rating: 9/10] If you want to watch something like this, you are better off just watching Summer Snow, which is really similar but even better. KimuTaku is the same as always, and Takiko is really good (she's the main reason I love this drama)... the ening was disappointing and a little sudden, but maybe I only think that because I watched this one right after Summer Snow, which has a perfect ending. Anyway, this drama all around is very touching, and even though it can be sad, it will make you feel really happy. | 20. | Comments by rikastar [Rating: 7/10] This is one of the few Kimura doramas that I don't like, I don't know why but I never truly got into the story. Yes, it was touching but somehow I just couldn't feel that Shuji did love Kyoko. It was also annoying how they popped in the story of the ex-girlfriend. I liked the supporting characters of the brother and Sachie way better. The fact that you know what happens to Kyoko right from the beginning casts a dark shadow over the entire drama. The opening theme by B'z + clip is really good. | 21. | Comments by ben_soh23 [Rating: 9/10] lovely drama although i do have to admit i got pretty bored in the middle portion n find it a tad too draggy.....
the casts put in great performances n u'll really feel for them as if u noe them in person (at least i did)...
although i already knew wat happened in the end (through spoilers in this website reviews :( but i still cried during the last few episodes after Kyoko fate was confirmed.... especially the last part when Shuji put makeup for her, really cannot control myself.... | 22. | Comments by dirtysweet [Rating: 10/10] I cried when I watched the ending. Actually, starting from episode 3 onwards, I cried at least once in every episode. I was a nervous wreck when Takuya Kimura applied makeup for the dead girl in the last scene. I cried SO LOUD my mother rushed into the room to see me bawling into a wad of wet tissue paper and staring at the computer screen at the same time. Of course I hafta give this drama full marks, the last time I cried so bad was when Shinkai hurt his foot in Good Luck hahaha | 23. | Comments by Kitsuchi [Rating: 10/10] This was a really beautiful and sad story.. It kind of reminded me of Ichi Ritoru no Namida. Maybe they took the idea from it?
However, the love between Shuji and Kyoko is sweet. The story is deep but yet so simple.. Kimura Takuya is an excellet actor. This is my first time seeing Tokiwa Takako act and I really like her. She is really good. I liked her always strong and healthy behaviours ^_^.
I also liked the theme song for this dorama.
This is a highly recommended dorama ^_^. | 24. | Comments by akane_MYV [Rating: 9/10] It was a great show!! I kinda got the feeling that one should be thankful to god to be able to run, to be able to live...
It it such a heartwarming, touching and awesome drama, I love it! An unusual storyline but I liked it....it wasn't always the same, great actor and the chraracters were awesome. Although the end was predictable it was realistic. The end was really sad, so that I cried.
There were no boring scene, I was always looking forward to watch the next episode. | 25. | Comments by madsky [Rating: 8/10] Beautiful Life is the most touching drama I've ever seen. Kimura and Tokiwa have great chemistry, and both did great in their roles. (Especially Tokiwa, she was excellent as Kyoko.) You see their relationship grow throughtout the whole series, although the ending is sad... made me cry more than once. I also liked the sidestory with Masao and Sachie. Watabe was funny as Masao, he had such an awkward manner, very amusing XD. Overall, it's a nice, heartwarming love story. | 26. | Comments by glayjiro1017 [Rating: 10/10] I absolutely love this drama. It's my favorite!
̃h}ԍD.
Kimura Takuya & Tokiwa Takako are a great match.
Nishikawa Takanori fits his role as a a stylist perfectly! (He's awesome in this!)
B'z ED song for this drama....I love it! It reminds of how great I thought of this drama! The lyrics are sweet and they really touch your heart. Oh, B'z. You make such great music.
If you enjoy romance/love story dramas, this is wonderful. | 27. | Comments by strawberrynkiwi [Rating: 8/10] If I watched it when it first came out, I would have rated higher. Since I watched 1 Litre of Tears already, the whole handicap theme was watched before. It was touching, but not extremely that made me cry. Plus the plot was quite predictable. I gott admit there wasn't a lot of chemistry between the leads compare to the newer dramas of Kimura. I still enjoyed it though. I really like the beginning, than as it got to the end, it was too 1 Litre of Tears. | 28. | Comments by niti [Rating: 8/10] This was my first Jdorama. I did not know anything about Jdoramas but I decided to watch it, just to get a wink of what Japanese media was like ^_^.
I loved this series. It really was a beautiful life. However I though it was a bit to slow in the beginning. One could easily get bored from the start and decide not to watch the series. Nevertheless, please do, cause the series is wonderful, truly wonderful. 8/10 The end was not my favourite though. | 29. | Comments by Onyx [Rating: 8/10] Tokiwa is really really cute in this dorama. Its one of those dorama which has a very emotional part in almost each episode. Either way it did made me think a lot, and it kept me interrested enough to make me watch as much eps in a row as i could. It all depends on what you expect, for this you should expect a nice but love story type drama about a girl in a wheelchair. If you can settle with that storytype, you'll probably love it as much as i did. | 30. | Comments by nutda_chan [Rating: 9/10] A MUST SEE SHOW!!!!! eventhough it is not a happy ending(which is couple ended up together)..but it showed us the value of true love...just love it....at first, i wasnt agree abt them as a couple...but after i`ve watch these series 2,3 times over and over again...the chemistry between them just superb and unbelievable...SERIOUS!!! By the way...dun jump to the conclusion...you better watch it first and then comment..that would be better...@^_^@.. |

1. | johuth I dont have this drama but it is a piece of art. I have allways loved this drama very much.
I have it now!!!!! | 2. | Angel2001 A most touching and moving drama! Audience may find the early episodes stale; the depiction of the love between Kyoko and Shuji too ordinary. But the natural, almost life-like depiction only serves to provide a convincing touch to a very moving final ending. The final scene is exceptionally powerful-----to find Kyoko "alive" in Shuji's heart is very reassuring and heart-warming! The drama shows the superb acting skill of Takuya-----how he held back his sorrow and his tears flowing down his face only when he has almost finished the make-up for Kyoko is heart-wrenching. All in all, a very subtle yet powerful handling of a theme commonly found in love dramas. Distinctly different from the melodramatic Korean dramas with similiar themes which invariably bore the audience to death with the characters crying almost non-stop throughout the drama. Highly recommended for audience looking for subtlety. | 3. | biteme_lestat Beautiful indeed...though I got scared at the part where Takuya puts make up on the corpse of his dead lover...*creepy* I love how they explored the theme of a barrier free love. I loved the part where the girl was breaking up with him becus she feels that she's just being a baggae for him becus of her disease, to which Takuya nswers: "I am not a Xmas decor that you can just put in your life when you feel like it." It's a very clear but unsappy way of telling someone that you'll be with them no matter what. A truly inspiring story, an effective portrayal from Takuya Kimura once again ^_^ | 4. | chyra beautiful script with japan's very own drama king and queen adding their magical touch to it. kimura and tokiwa a wonderful and beautiful pair. their fantastic depiction of shuji and kyoko brought itz viewers right into the sotry and the characters. kyoko's inferiority complex and shuji arrogance, brought the 2 of them together, to change themselves to bcum more optimistic and to b less arrogant, to elarn to understand and to love. i would say this is one the the most beautiful love story in a j-dorama.this is a MUZ C | 5. | Midori-Yagami so sad ;__; Kimutaku was very good in this one, so kakkoi like always as Shuji *_* It was really weird cause usually I don't like the female protagonist of the drama, I hate them XD 'cause they are so lucky to work with my favorite actors!! But Takako Tokiwa was more than ok for me in this drama, she and Takuya make a wonderful couple!! | 6. | mizune You know from the very first episode that this will be a sad story, but it is also very funny and heartwarming as well. All the characters (both primary and secondary roles) are well developed and well cast. It's hard to find a drama as evenly balanced as this one. This is probably my favorite Tokiwa Takako role. | 7. | daphne01 Nice combination between Takuya and Takako. Very touching. I thought the ending will be Kyoko recovering but it turns out that she died. I cried everytime I watched that scene. The ending part whereby Shuji opened a salon near the sea and all deco are as per what kyoko wants, it gave me a kind satisfaction within | 8. | gorgeous_in_tears absolutely loved it. it somehow relates to my own life story. so i just instantly felt what actors were trying to convey to audince even without words. explosion of feelings! kyoko's pain was my pain. shuji's pain was also my pain. BL got so deep into my heart and into my soul, i was overwhelmed with emotions! | 9. | jo Incredible story, it was like reading a novel. The ending was sad, but it was really done exceptionally well. I was not particularly fond of the first 5-6 episodes, the last couple were emotionally captivating. Watch it and you will understand. 9/10.Kimutaku was GOOD! Tokiwa was great!! A must see A+++ | 10. | yuka A well-paced romantic story that moved one to chuckle at the beginning, dreamy in between and at the end teary-eyed. The pull from the stellar performance of Kimura and Tokiwa (an excellent match) is forceful. Both were powerfully subtle without the melodramatics in their respective roles. | 11. | takezo this may be the finest dorama i've seen so far in terms of production as well as acting and directing. everything from the soundtrack to the cinematography and dialogue is solid and seamless. you won't find overbearing moral lectures nor camp comedy, all you'll find is splendid storytelling. | 12. | __embryoBxTCH Really moving and beautiful storyline. I loved the chemistry between Takuya & Takako! They kept the J-Dorama really alive and fresh. Even though it was very sad at some parts... celebrating life at hand is its key focus. I was pretty much moved to tears so GOOD JOB CAST! <3 <3 <3 | 13. | Quicksilver I didn't expect myself to be falling in love with this jdorama. The plot is good, and I can even relate to it. It's simple and very REAL. The narration helped a lot to give it more "drama". The actors portrayed the characters really well, especially the two main actors. Tear-worthy. :D | 14. | yuko^ I totally love this show, but sad to say, i always haf to pluck up lotsa courage to re-watch again, cos itz simply too heart-wrenching, and u would really be pissed at kyoko and shuji for not cherishing the time they had half way thru the show...but nonetheless, itz a great show!!!:P | 15. | shanghai_honey Beautiful drama, beautiful acting, beautiful message. This dorama is unforgettable to me because of the subtle but poignat acting of Takako Tokiwa and Takuya Kimura. I have never been so touched watching a jdorama before. The powerful acting of the two leads makes this one an A++++. | 16. | kimurababe what makes this dorama really good is that it avoids the mush trail that many tragic love stories take (although you need to have a hanky on hand in some episodes). i swear, you will never forget shuji and kyoko after seeing this. they'll make you laugh, cry and all giddy inside! | 17. | Hide/Takky even though im pretty sure this is again another of his hit dramas... i never really got hooked into this one. I dunnno why though...it could be becoz i know how the story unfolds coz i read ppl's reviews here b4 i got to watch the drama itself... but still im voting this one! | 18. | yana_preciousone everyone deserve to be loved by other people.. our life is beautiful if someone really love us even though we r not as perfect as other people...but in dis world, no one is perfect... takuya kimura really is a good actor... love his attitude... | 19. | TempestRider This series made me cry..Beautful Life is truly heartwarming love story.i love the ending, though it's a really sad ending, i love the fact the Takuya's character was able to move on with the loss of his loved one..must watch! | 20. | 187sakurai Better and more touching than summer snow. This is the best drama i have seen by far. Most Japanese dramas can seem cheesy and repetitive but not this one. This drama is truly a work of art and i would recommend it to anyone. | 21. | freak_of_psycho Overall, it was enjoyable because the romance is not mushy and the story is told from the perspective of people with disabilities and/or illness... sad stories usu grab the audience's heart easily but this one deserves it... | 22. | favug Judging by my wife "cry-o-meter" the drama is very good :). now really, it was the first jdrama not having a happy ending, but still having a touching story which built up to a extraordinary final episode.
It's a must see. | 23. | oldasianguy One of the 1st jdrama that I got a chance to see..and has remained with me as a fond bitter-sweet memory...Tokiwa Takako has proved to me that she's one of Japan's most capable actress....Unforgettable and
Great!!!!!!!!! | 24. | Shindou Takako and Takuya worked very well together. the portrayal of their characters was beautifully done and the supporting cast does a great job as well. A wonderfully touching story worthy of comparison to LG and LV! | 25. | Sesari Woaaaa....
So romantic... I love this film...
you can feel happy, sad and TRUE LOVE if you watch this dorama...
I can't describe this dorama with any words again..
just watch and you will understand.. | 26. | Koven Again a beautiful love story with two excellent actors. Maybe this drama is a little slow by moments but I liked it a lot. The Beautiful Life OST is quite disappointing but there is the superb song of the ending. | 27. | hodgepodge307 Well, this drama is so dear to me, it is the reason why I'm so into jap dramas. I've never seen a drama so perfect....great acting, script, cinematography and of course, i cried from fisrt episode until the end. | 28. | donna8157 A sweet love story about a handicapped woman and a young hairdresser who can look beyond the woman's physical limitations. A realistic portrayal of love between the two through trials and tribuations. | 29. | hide_hikaru_minako Great story plot!!! kimura takuya portray fantastic acting skills.. =) its one of my favourite kimura takuya drama!!!!! heart-aching love story between Shuji and Kyoko.. its one the MUST watch!!!! (: | 30. | db9paka Although some parts were quite draggy, but the story was overall touching and sad. Truly unforgettable and amazing. Tokiwa was extremely kawaii and Takuya was basically his normal self. Recommended. |
