With the lighter mood of this drama, his character comes off more as a comic book style villain, so that his unrealistic creepiness doesn't ruin the whole thing, and to the extent that it is portrayed seriously, I find him largely redeemable. On the other hand I had some issues with how the romance was handled. I can understand that with it not being too serious a drama, that they would not want to develop the relationship of the main character and the younger girl. However, after they portrayed his girlfriend as such an unlikeable person, I can't feel satisfied with the ending. Unlike the villain, I found his girlfriend to be, while not truly evil, totally shallow and beyond redemption, and it feels very unsatisfying to have her casually except him in the end, and that be that. If they had her go through a more serious transformation, or just had them break up it would have been better. |
2. | Comments by Susan [Rating: 8/10] Hungry was a surprisingly enjoyable drama from the start of 2012. What a great way to start the new year! I admit I'm not at all a fan of Mukai Osamu (and I'm still not) but he was more than bearable here. It was the push and pull between his thick-headed Eisuke and the rest of the characters that made this drama so much fun to watch. Though I think it could have done without the creepy, stalker-like character played by Inagaki Goro, who once again proves he's only capable of dragging a drama down a few notches. What saved this series was the combination of French food and the light-handed approach to the love triangle (square by the end). Well, without spoiling anything, the ending actually really impressed me; the main character managed to grow as a person and the romance never once become the point of the drama. |
3. | Comments by sasukekun6 [Rating: 10/10] I love the characters, especially Tsuyoshi! He reminds me of someone I know~ Also, awesome choice in music for their theme music....The Bawdies!
This was a really fun, interesting drama. I really must say that I wish that was a real place because I'd definitely be going there every week. Eisuke was a really interesting character and I wish I could see more of him....so here's to hoping for a special!!!! |
4. | Comments by gaston [Rating: 8/10] I can never look at a rock band and not think of a kitchen staff ever again. Vice versa. LOL. Loved the drama. Gives the impression that good food solves "most" problems -- I guess that's what food dorama have to play to. The female leads -- both Takimoto Miori AND Kuninaka Ryoko were adorable. One person I could definitely do without was Mutsuko. :| Definitely worth watching! |
5. | Comments by Patazilla [Rating: 7/10] Overall enjoyable with streaks of interesting plot, but then again it tends to be repetitive and somewhat floating about without a clear message. The characters are fun and sometimes cute, but also tend to be inconsistent and exaggerated. |
6. | Comments by Spider [Rating: 9/10] Really enjoyed this food related drama, and it does make you feel "hungry" when you watch it! I hope they make a season 2! |

8. | Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 8/10] For a restaurant dorama it's a new style with humour and not with a one-episode one-story patern which is fun. |
