| 1. | Nipponichi! [Rating: 9/10] What can I say? Nippon Ichi! Even though this is quite and old show, it's still a great show. Shota is the typical 'wimp' maincharacter but still manages to overcome all obstacles. A nice blend of friendship, but not the usual love drama kept this show alive (along with the superb supporting cast), the showcase of many different kinds of fish/sushi also made it really worth watching. Since I'm not a sushi/fish lover, this show managed to get me interested. When friends are having a sushiparty I normally refuse to go, cos I'll starve to death. But from now on I'll go, and help create new kinds of sushi. Thank you shota! | Reviewed by Terryb on 3 December 2004 | 2. | Subarashii! Nippon Ichi!!! [Rating: 9/10] A charming and riveting tale acted out wonderfully by Takashi and the rest of the cast. The individual episode plots were very well balanced and infused with a good mix of manga-like comedy, seriousness, and a strong sense of spirit and determination. Of the doramas I've seen from Takashi, this is undisputedly his best role. With a strong supporting cast and a worthy OST to accompany the series, this dorama (despite its slightly longer-than-usual length at 17 eps) is well worth watching. | Reviewed by Shindou on 31 October 2006 | 3. | Watch this with your gf! [Rating: 9/10] This drama was so informative and interesting (totemo omoshiroi). Prior to watching this I would just chomp down on my sushi, but after, upon receipt of my sushi orders I now analyze closely at it (Todai doesn't count!) and wonder all the training that a sushi chef goes through to create the perfect sushi. I will not only appreciate the art of sushi more, I will also make better California rolls after watching this. | Reviewed by gizm092 on 23 August 2003 | 4. | Funny and Good~~ [Rating: 10/10] This show is a very funny show. Takashi Kashiwabara took on a more childish role and it became very good. I think that this show has a very deep meaning and a good plot. Altho many ppl just take it as it literally is, if you got into the depth of it, youll start thinking about how hard it is to perfect everything you do. I think it is a show that everyone should watch whether or not youre a Takashi fan. | Reviewed by Cheri_Kashiwabara on 22 December 2001 | 5. | Food as memory [Rating: 10/10] I was surprised to find myself liking this drama a great deal. Both the cast and acting was excellent (although over the top at times - Takashi bursts into tears nearly EVERY episode and I swear I saw Tetta foaming at the mouth a few times). After a few episodes, lines like "ruin this sushi and I'll take your life!" will seem perfectly natural. Funny, warm and touching sushi.

It can be boring at times,
I wish they could of worked in the love story between Takashi and Kaoru or Yoshino, but instead its 99% sushi.
But it does make me want to order a huge order of sushi.
My ex-girl friend make me eat sushi all the time, I never liked it, Maybe this time, I ll finally enjoy the sushi experience. | Reviewed by Shino on 26 August 2002 | 7. | Good story with BAD COUPLE [Rating: 7/10] Like everybody said after see this drama I want to eat sushi more. But to bad I don't like if Takashi together with Ida Kaoru, I more like Kimura Yoshino because she help Shota when Shota is give up with him self even not in farewell way. Very bad couple, Kaoru is too quiet and not meaning so much for Shota (Takashi), she just for letter friend's.

| 1. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 8/10] A story about making sushi? A boy who wants to become the best sushi chef in Japan? Ha. Actually, this drama turned out to be a lot better than I expected it to be. And wow, it was a lot of fun learning about the intricacies of the art of sushi making and the training that Shota had to go through to become one.
The first few episodes were a little boring once the gist of it was: learn a new element in sushi making, ie Shota discovers something new. But as it progressed, the storyline became much more interesting and the supporting characters only added to the enjoyment of the series.
I definitely recommend it. A lot of fun to watch. It made me want to make my own sushi. Heheh. | 2. | Comments by Shindou [Rating: 9/10] Takashi truly carried through the show! The supporting cast was very well picked and definitely gave this dorama the coherence and team spirit that is getting to be more and more difficult to find in the more recent doramas. Takashi's enthusiasm clearly showed throughout the episodes and provided more than enough motivation for the audience to continue watching ep after ep. Tetta was a great counterbalance for most of the show and contributed to making this dorama a balanced yet wonderfully enjoyable series. | 3. | Comments by jdfan [Rating: 9/10] Based on a comic books, this drama is naturally funny and a bit exaggerated. If you want to know everything about sushi-culture and have fun while at it, this is the drama for you. But be prepared to crave for sushi when you are watching, because every sushi roll shown in this show look scrumptiously delicious. This is an inspiring story! With a happy ending and good cast, this drama is one of my favorites. After you watched this show, you'll never taste Sushi the same way. | 4. | Comments by MixxDreamer [Rating: 9/10] finished it! but ill give it a 9, cuz there are some slow scenes and they selected the bad couple.. his gf seems to be so quiet, boring and acted like a dork, not a gf material that is! but overall, its a good show, very touching, i cried the part when the lil boy cried reminding his mother's omelette or should i say egg pancake recipe and every show is mouth watering and u learn alot of techniques, hehe i also like to hear him say 'Number 1 in Japan!' ^^ | 5. | Comments by Danji [Rating: 9/10] Shota no Sushi started out as a simple show for me. However, it quickly grew to be a show full of love, angst, trials, friendship, memories, and immense power. This show is full of story. I quickly fell in love with pretty much the whole cast, the only one I didn't like was Sachi. Events laster in the series changed my mind on him. Good music, a fun opening sequence, and a fantastic cast and story round this show out to be one of my favorites. | 6. | Comments by yume [Rating: 7/10] I thought that this might be a real dud of a drama because it's about, well, SUSHI! I was sure it'd be full of sappy lines and overdramatic scenes--which it is--but it has a redeeming factor of cuteness and a funny cast to make it enjoyable enough. Shota doesn't show much character to me in the first episode, but when he goes to Tokyo, you can feel all sorts of things awaiting! I am stilll watching this... | 7. | Comments by marzyu [Rating: 8/10] Takashi Kashiwabara lookz so funni in this one *gigglez* hehe . . . Since I luv eating sushi myself, I never missed an episode of this drama and I knew so many more thingz in making sushi! Now I alwayz tell my mom to make it ^^ It sure gives u alot of tips hehe . . . this wuz da drama dat introduced me to Yoshino . . . it wuz sooooo cute when she kissed Kassy and he bumped his head on da pole! hehe | 8. | Comments by Wisteria [Rating: 8/10] Shota no Sushi, I definitely learnt a lot about sushi from this dorama, could be where my sushi-philia stems from... It's definitely a good series, you accompany Shota on his journey to become a top sushi chef, with the pre-requisite obstacles in his way - a jealous senpai etc. Good acting from the supporting cast as well. Highly recommended. | 9. | Comments by yamada_taro [Rating: 8/10] Is it me, or does Shota always look like he's going to cry in *every single* episode? XD This was the first ever dorama I've watched, so it'll always be special. After watching, I was inspired to 'ganbatte' myself. If you want to see young Kashiwabara and some really interesting ways to make sushi, this is for you. | 10. | Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 10/10] 17 episodes without a dull moment. That says a lot about how good this show is. In fact I wanted it to continue even further. It's a heartwarming drama with many touching moments. Great cast, great characters, great storyline. I can't find anything bad to say about this drama, I loved it. 10- | 11. | Comments by ryushinu [Rating: 5/10] It's a fun drama, if you're into sushi-making. Sometimes it felt like I was watching an anime, which I disliked because I watch drama for a more "real" feeling.
I would recommend it to people an episode at a time, but would not encourage someone to watch the whole thing back-to-back. | 12. | Comments by atheon [Rating: 7/10] Dec 2003: All about sushi. You will learn a lot bout sushi. Just sushi. Started willing to try those raw sushi...everyone look so young in this drama. The thing i don't like is the sound effect, and the theme song. You have to work hard if you want to sucess. | 13. | Comments by takuan [Rating: 7/10] A drama that follows the shounen manga pattern of "a young boy sets out to realize his dream of becoming the number 1 ____ in the world/japan/etc" If you're into sushi, food or sports-type shounen manga, this should be an enjoyable watch. | 14. | Comments by Jeanxi [Rating: 2/10] Ehhh....very very very disappointed. I shouldn't have had high expectations tho. I guess it was because I liked the manga and I love Kashiwabara so I thought this might have some merit. But no. Totally slaughtered the spirit of the manga. | 15. | Comments by cheery [Rating: 8/10] One of the longest Jap drama tat i've watched i tink abt 21 episodes. A very different Kassy in the show. He is determined and hardworking int the show unlike his previous character which protray him as very cool and handsome. | 16. | Comments by laramatsu [Rating: 9/10] The drama made me love sushi a lot - and hoping like crazy that one of the sushi that I ate struck me off with lightning or even make me cry. Then again, it's all in the drama. I love Shota's determination to excel | 17. | Comments by hitomi #1 [Rating: 8/10] At 17 episodes a tad too long but it never dragged just a few episodes that they could have done without, the last 2 were among the more intense episodes ever, gotta admit did have a craving for sushi watching it! | 18. | Comments by jade_sylvia [Rating: 9/10] I loved watching Kashiwabara Takashi in this show. He looked so cool! I just wanted to cheer him whenever he said "Japan Number One!". The only reason I gave it a 9 was because some parts seemed slow. | 19. | Comments by thetenken [Rating: 10/10] A drama about making sushi? Hells yeah! A bit sappy at times, but it was a good series...Maybe because it was my first...I guess it was mostly the first and last episodes that were truly great. | 20. | Comments by mizuno_takako [Rating: 10/10] my advice for watching this show is never watch it without a snack cos they always film the sushi so delicious that will make ur stomache growling...hahaha...a veri nice n exciting show.... | 21. | Comments by Angry Machines [Rating: 10/10] Hokuto no Ken meets sushi making! Seemed like the right and proper thing to do =P. | 26. | Comments by Iv3_imt [Rating: ?/10] i like it..
this is the kind of jdorama i like
it's great to know how sushi is made
i dunno that it is not so easy as it looks
but it lacks romance or chemistry i think | 27. | Comments by freak_of_psycho [Rating: 3/10] Sure, its emotional and all... but the passion to make the ichiban sushi with feeling? Nope. It doesn't work for me... Food is food. You eat'em cuz it tastes good. Period. | 28. | Comments by jase80 [Rating: 8/10] pretty awesome story, but definitely touch a foodie like me :) just gotta make sure I got something to munch on while watching cuz those sushi look too dang good :D | 29. | Comments by aiscess [Rating: 8/10] I like this kind of series wherein the lead has a goal to achieve...more like an anime...it's very inspiring...It's funny too! I like Shota's determination;) | 30. | Comments by yanie_chan [Rating: 7/10] Focusing on how the leading role becomes the greatest sushi-maker...I thought it'd be interesting...but, turns out...it's not!>_< Very dissapointing!
