| 87%~Watashi no Go-nen Seizonritsu [87%〜私の5年生存率] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Realistic. Very moving to watch Yui Natsukawa act as a single mother suddenly slapped with news that she was suffering from first stage breast cancer and her struggle to conquer her fears, hold down her job, raise her son single-handedly and carry on with life.
Nice theme song - Kimi ga Iru! | Ai no Uta [あいのうた] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |

Beginner [ビギナー] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) | Bengoshi no Kuzu [弁護士のくず]
| Bijo ka Yajuu [美女か野獣] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) Fukuyama Masaharu was the draw. Matsushima Nanako was kinda bland, playing a rather unchallenging role as the aloof ex. The overall story was fine but their relationship dragged out slowly by bits till the very end to a rather ambiguous closure. I was waiting for sparks to ignite...alas... |
Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi [僕と彼女と彼女の生きる道]
| Brand [ブランド] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Nice for a peek into brand management, that was about all that sustained my interest. | Brother Beat [ブラザー☆ビート] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) |
Busu no Hitomi Koishiteru [ブスの瞳恋してる] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Goro's so wooden it's hard to understand why he deserves the affection of three women who deserve so much better. It's hard to really care for the characters, even Tomoko Murakami who turned in a credible performance, after awhile. | Byakkotai [白虎隊]
| CHANGE Rating: 6/10 (Watched) |
DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii [DOCTORS 最強の名医] (Watched) | Dokushin seikatsu [独身生活] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Dark, riveting drama. Compelling performance by Makiko Esumi. | Double score [ダブル スコア] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Formulaic but entertaining. Good chemistry between the Oshio & Sorimachi, plot wasn't too original though, renegade vs stickler for rules has been rehashed in many forms and played to death. Thought Odoru was much better in the league of police dramas. |
Dr Koto - Shinryoujo 2006 [Dr.コトー診療所2006]

Fugoh Keiji [富豪刑事] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) Totally unfunny. Kyoko Fukada is cute but she just can't act or even emote so Fugoh Keiji comes across as a dull, annoying Kyoko showcase. | G@me
| Gakkou no sensei [ガッコの先生] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Predictable yet more endearing than Gokusen. |
Gift [ギフト] (Bought) | Gokusen [ごくせん] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Kinda predicatable but the guys are a kewl bunch. | Gonzo - Densetsu no Keiji [ゴンゾウ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) |
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) So exaggerated!!! Storyline is very contrived and the lines Kimura spouts is amazingly idealistic misguided nonsense for a pilot. I sure won't wanna be his passenger. Kept wondering how they could make the count up to 10 eps. | Hagetaka [ハゲタカ]
| Haken no Hinkaku [ハケンの品格] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) |
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Hanayome wa 16-sai! [花嫁は16才!] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Charmingly, simple yet heartwarming. Rie Tomosaka delivers a moving performance which makes me wonder why she hasn't been given bigger roles than some actresses in the current entertainment scene. | Hanayome wa Yakudoshi! [花嫁は厄年ッ!] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) I like Ryoko Shinohara but Hanayome was a shallow, exaggerated and overly long affair. The letdown is the script and silly characters like Azuchi Kaori. |
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e [花ざかりの君たちへ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Haru Ranman [春ランマン] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) Rather entertaining, but plods laboriously towards the last few eps. | Hatsu Taiken [初体験] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) Naohito Fujiki!!! He brightens up a rather average the drama. Joe Odagiri is a hoot! |
Hero Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) | Hito ni Yasashiku [人にやさしく / 3ピース]
| Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙]
|
Imouto yo [妹よ]
| Iryu [医龍 Team Medical Dragon] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Absolutely riveting. Unrealism aside, Iryu probably ranks as one of the best dramas of 2006. The episodes are well-paced and scripted, and the drama benefits from an ensemble of interesting characters that are well fleshed out by the cast. Special mention for Natsuki Mari as Dr Kitou the astute, cunning, yet charming head of emergency. | Itazura na Kiss [イタズラなKiss] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Itazura started off interesting, picked up pace but got whiny, annoying and ludicrous towards the end. It was hard to buy Kassy's character's sudden morph from cool, aloof Irie who seems to hold Kotoko in contempt and disgust to an enlightened one who finally realises his true feelings for her. Kassy is the reason to trudge through this though. |
Itsumo futari de [いつもふたりで] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Watch Koi no Chikara for the same script writer, similar plot line, combustible chemistry and fun story. | Joi [女医]
| Jyoou no Kyoushitsu [女王の教室]
|
Kao [顔] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) | Karei naru Ichizoku [華麗なる一族]

Keizoku [ケイゾク]
Watching...Atsuro Watabe is cool! | Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Abe Hiroshi's in his element as a fastidious, obnoxious, middle-age man who is lonely but too proud to admit it. Each episode is hilarious. Natsukawa Yui also delivers a lovely performance as his unsuspecting love interest. Great supporting cast! | Kekkon shiyouyo [結婚しようよ!] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Fluffy sweet romance. |
Kemonomichi [けものみち] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Dark and depressing, watching the characters in Kemonomichi is like seeing them get helplessly sucked into a vortex of greed and despair for which there's no return. Manipulation and treachery are the order of the day. Almost every character has an ulterior motive , is cold and ruthless, yet their vulnerability and yearning is what makes Kemonomichi a cut above the rest. | Kimi ga omoi de ni Naru Mae ni [君が想い出になる前に]
| Kimi ga oshietekureta koto [君が教えてくれたこと] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) |
Kimi to deatte kara [君と出逢ってから] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) A very heart wrenching show. A little perverse to keep seeing Mayu Tsuruta in anguish almost every episode but the drama is well paced. Motoki is also kakkoi! | Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Fun drama. Matsu Jun rocks!!! Koyuki does a rather decent job too, though I loathed her character as the drama progressed. Love her clothes! | Kindaichi Shonen no Jikembo Season 3 [金田一少年の事件簿 3] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) |

Kira kira hikaru [きらきらひかる/法醫物語] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) The cases are straight forward but the concepts are interesting. However, the decision to create stereotypical characters makes Kira Kira Hikaru all too predictable and disappointing as much as I like Eri Fukatsu and Yasuko Matsuyuki. | Kisarazu Cat's Eye [木更津キャッツアイ]
| Koi ga shitai Koi ga shitai Koi ga shitai [恋がしたい恋がしたい]
|
Koi ni Ochitara ~Boku no Seikou no Himitsu~ [恋におちたら〜僕の成功の秘密〜] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Highly entertaining and funny. Strong cast and script though the last ep kinda lagged. Possibly my favourite drama of Spring 2005. Tsuyoshi Kusanagi has always been stereotyped as the eternal optimist cum do-gooder and done that role to death, but Suzuki Shimao suits him just fine (besides his role in Team). | Koi no Chikara [恋ノチカラ] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) Brilliant. Koi no Chikara is one of the best romance dramas. I love Eri Fukatsu!!! Ditzy, funny, dreamy. She and Tsutsumi Shinichi make this drama worth watching many times over. The cast and storyline make Koi endearing and addictive. Can't help feeling that the actors had a fantastic time on the set as the drama has an infectious mood. And a lovely, upbeat soundtrack too.
Better than Itsumo Futari De (also by the same scriptwriter). | Koshonin [交渉人] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |
Kurokawa no techou [黒革の手帖]

|
Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji Season 2 [救命病棟24時 2] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I'm all for Yosuke Eguchi heh...the drama seemed staged and too unnatural but made watchable by him and Matsuyuki Yasuko. They had great chemistry...subtle and simmering. | Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji Season 3 [救命病棟24時 3] Rating: 8/10 | Last Christmas [ラストクリスマス] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Lovely and kinda heart-warming, until it hit Ep6 where everything seemed to start unravelling and get draggy. Too many unnecessary subplots. I was bowled over by Oda Yuji's character though...what a charming guy! |
Long Love Letter [ロング・ラブレター〜漂流教室]
| Long vacation [ロングバケーション] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) First half was well-paced and exciting, second half got a little draggy and had too idealistic an ending. But great, eye-candy nonetheless. |
Love Story Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Wonderfully funny and touching love story although the romantic entanglements almost seemed to at times to get out of hand. Etsushi Toyokawa played the dour, difficult Nagase terrifically. Miho Nakayama's role wasn't that endearing but it still made an engrossing watch. Also loved the OST especially Haruka. | Lunch no Joou [ランチの女王]
| Machiben [マチベン]
|
Mada Koi wa Hajimaranai [まだ恋は始まらない] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I liked the premise and thought it started off well but thought the ending was a little of a letdown. Chemistry between the leads seemed lacking too though that's probably because they had few scenes together and they were playing cautious characters. A charmingly sweet story though. | Magari Kado no Kanojyo [曲がり角の彼女] (Watched) | Marks no Yama [マークスの山] (Watched) |
Marusa!! [マルサ!!] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) | Mayonaka no Ame [真夜中の雨] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Intriguing, dark drama. Good cast and acting, although its rather clear who's the villian early on. | Mona Lisa no hohoemi [モナリザの微笑] (Bought) |
Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Funny and a nice feel good drama. You'll never see Tomoya Nagase the same way again after watching this. | My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ]
| Ningen no Shoumei [人間の証明] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Ningen no Shoumei struck me as more a study of humanity than a detective series. It is interesting yet not absorbing probably because one doesn't really care for the characters. The drama starts of in a meandering, unfocused manner that requires much determination to watch to try to link seemingly unconnected people and incidents together. Midway through, it became obvious who the murderer is and the only reason I stuck through it was to find out how they'd nail the person. I thought too much was attributed to coincidence and fate, and having a Japanese portray a black person bothered me. |
Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Odoru Daisousasen [踊る大捜査線] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Kinda predictable, sometimes unbelievable but interesting all the same. Great acting. | Oishii puropozu [おいしいプロポーズ] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) It's hard to stomach this drama which could have had so much more promise had it casted better leads (though the script left much to be desired too). Hasegawa Kyoko delivers a bland and uninspiring performance as a small Italian restaurant chef. Haven't we seen all those expressions before in previous roles? At least we were saved the pouts then. Koide Keisuke feels like her younger brother and there are no sparks between them and the ensuing romance is kinda unfathomable and anything but hot and riveting. Nishimura Masahiko has seen better days. This was just a waste of his acting talent. |
Ooku [大奥]

Pride [プライド] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) The ice hockey scenes are cool. Kimutaku reprises his usual arrogant, aloof character which is all too predictable. Love story btw Haru and Aki coulda been less formulaic. | Psychometrer eiji 1 Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) Abs interesting mystery cases with nice twists. Eiji and his sidekicks are totally goofy and so watchable. Highly recommended! | Psychometrer eiji Season 2 Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) A must watch if you love mysteries. The stories consistently interesting, unpredictable and at times disturbing. A rarity in sequelsl. Great cast and chemistry. |

| Rikon Bengoshi [離婚弁護士]
|
Rikon Bengoshi Season 2 [離婚弁護士II〜ハンサム ウーマン〜]
| Saigo no Bengonin Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Saigo no Bengoshi isn't a particularly refreshing legal drama but Abe Hiroshi's portrayal of the scruffy, acerbic, tenacious and perceptive public defence attorney, Udo, somehow makes the show a delight to watch even though most of the cases are simple and one knows early on, where the drama will lead to. | Saikou no kataomoi [最高の片想い] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Absolutely saikou. And truly charming. Eri Fukatsu is wonderful in the role of Kurumi. |
Satomi Hakenden [里見八犬伝] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Satorare [サトラレ] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) | Seigi wa katsu [正義は必勝つ] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Great chemistry between Oda Yuji and Mayu Tsuruta...well-paced, interesting plot but I thought the final case could have ended better. |
Seikei Bijin [整形美人。] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Not bad, but Ryoko Yokenura isn't quite my cup of tea. Too perky although I thought she did a decent job. | Shiroi Kyoto [白い巨塔]
| Shukumei [宿命]
|
Slow Dance [スローダンス] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Slow Dance has a beautiful cast and wonderful soundtrack but is absolutely let down by a storyline that is a tad too cliche and predictable. The sub-plot pairing of Ryoko Hirosue and Naohito Fujiki seemed rather unnecessary. Keeping my fingers crossed for a dreamy, fuzzy ending. | Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi [空から降る一億の星]
| Soratobu Taiya [空飛ぶタイヤ] (Watched) |
Soredemo, Ikite Yuku [それでも、生きてゆく] (Watched) | SP [エスピー] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) | Stand UP!! Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |
Star no Koi [スタアの恋] Rating: 4/10 (Bought & Watched) Horrible. Noriko Fujiwara is pouty and ditzy, which gets annoying when is becomes apparent that the plot will get nowhere when both leads go into self denial for at least half the show. Urgh... couldn't help but wish I could yell "get on with it". Could have cut the number of eps by half. | Suekko chounan ane san nin [末っ子長男姉三人]
Still watching | Taburoido [タブロイド]

Team saiaku de saikouna futari [チーム] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) Absolute gem! One of the most underrated of its year. Wonderful chemistry between Tsuyoshi and Nishimura. | Tentai Kanzoku [天体観測] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Great cast - lotsa eye candy. Heart wrenching story and an interesting take on friendship during and after University. | Tiger & Dragon [タイガー&ドラゴン]

Tokyo Love Cinema [東京ラブ・シネマ] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) I like Yosuke Eguchi, but didn't really fall for this show. The pacing was rather slow, though the story line was interesting. And average drama with a happy ending. | Tomorrow Rating: 6/10 (Watched) | Top Caster [トップキャスタ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Top Caster had a great but underutilised cast, and a script that seemed to lose focus along the way as it tried to balance news scoops with the relationship between newscaster Tsubaki and her assistant Nozomi. Yuki Amami and Shosuke Tanihara made a lovely pairing. They're so coolly business-like and professional towards everyone but when they're together they almost always end up losing their senses and bickering in a childish manner. |
Toubousha [逃亡者] Rating: 8/10 (Bought) Yosuke Eguchi and Abe Hiroshi were awesome. Great chemistry. Unpredictable twists that kept me riveted (though I did wonder how long Yosuke Eguchi's character's lucky streak wld last). Plus a great soundtrack. Definitely worth a watch. | Toumei ningen
| Trick [トリック] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) Kooky, queer and fun. Never gets slapstick. Although the mysteries more often leave me scratching my head. |
Trick Season 2 [トリック2] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Quirky, fun. Love Yukie Nakama and Abe Hiroshi's bantering. It just keeps getting better! | Trick Season 3 [トリック3] (Bought) | Umizaru [海猿] (Watched) |
Unfair [アンフェア]
| Ushi ni Negai wo: Love & Farm [牛に願いを - Love & Farm] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Uso Koi [ウソコイ] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) A straightforward storyline dragged out for 11 episodes that might have been saved had there been any chemistry between Nakai Kiichi and Faye Wong. Sadly not though the supporting cast were great fun and there was a good dose of humourous scenes. |
Watashitachi no kyokasho [わたしたちの教科書]
| Wedding Planner [ウエディングプランナー] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) Heart warming, feel good stylish drama. Great cast, nice settings. One of my favs. | Whiteout (Watched) |
With love Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Yutaka Takenouchi's the only reason to sit thru this show. Misato is bland, boring, and indecisive. There's no chemistry between the two leads and Oikawa Mitsuhiro is positively annoying. | Wonderful Life [ワンダフルライフ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |
Yasha [夜叉] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Ito Hideaki gives a very convincing performance as two twins with polar personalities. Interesting storyline, but letdown by the presence of some repetitive scenes of flashbacks. | Yasuko to Kenji [ヤスコとケンジ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | |
