Tokura Takashi is a young, talented surgeon who finds himself working for a private hospital run by the Izumida family. Through an odd series of events, he finds himself in the company of Misuzawa Yukiko, a detective. His stoic personality does not get in the way of his growing fame, and soon, as the drama unfolds, one realizes that Tokura is concealing more about himself than his unapproachable disposition would allow. What does he, the Izumida family, and Misuzawa all have in common...? | Wynter |

| 1. | Wet & dark, but eventually rewarding [Rating: 7/10] It's not clear how much of a good guy or not Yuji Oda is in this dorama. Certainly not at first. He comes off as brooding and detached, with a strong case of brilliant surgeon god-complex. His intentions and motivations are mysterious. The same goes for the other characters.
The pervasive rainstorms and water adds to the overhanging dark mood. There are no "light" moments here. For awhile, I found myself more attracted to the brief moments of the interaction of the hospital President's family life. Though highly dysfunctional, the middle son and youngest daughter seemed to be the most clear cases of "pure of heart" people. Everyone else were just gloomy shadows in an enigmatic, dark mystery.
As the storyline unfolds, the characters start emerging from the hazy shadows and it'll definitely draw you in. I can't say this is "grab you by the throat" kind of suspense. Things develop at a measured pace with things revealed like the occasional lightning bolt. Then you get more rain. Make sure you have an umbrella, raincoat and flashlight. Stick with it and you'll end up thinking, "yeah, that was all right." | Reviewed by ichiban_noodles on 25 February 2005 | 2. | Additional review [Rating: 9/10] I have seen the above drama ( Mayonaka no ame or Midnight Rain ) last year and must admit it's been some time since I've seen a suspense medical drama , something like Heaven Coins .
What got me attracted to this drama is instead of the usual love stories it has some exciting scenes in each episode to make us want to follow more . From beginning we are unsure who is the good and the bad and the 2 leads with mysterious background
Thrown in some family conflicts , medical drama and police investigation we got some exciting plot
For the cast Oda Yuji manage to potray a cool surgeon which is different from all his previous roles , not to mention the ever talented Abe Hiroshi who just look so smart & cool at the same time ! and also Ken Ishiguro .

To anyone who like suspense drama like Sleeping Forest , Ice World and medical drama you would love this | Reviewed by salsayanni on 28 February 2004 | 3. | Good, but not memorable [Rating: 7/10] Will I remember Midnight Rain a few months from now? Probably not, but it was good while it lasted.
This is one of those dramas where the actors/actresses involved carry the show above anything else. Oda Yuji, Abe Hiroshi, and Ishiguro Ken are all actors I've admired in other dramas, and it was great to see all three of them play such different roles. This was my first drama with Matsuyuki Yasuko and I thought she was wonderful. She was so believable in her emotions and position that I felt only Nagatsuka Kyozo could match her episode after episode.
The story line is interesting, but I found the plot points a little too coincidental. Everything fit so flawlessly that this flawlessness became a loop hole.
Overall, good show, but I probably won't watch it again. It's great for those who like medical dramas, politics, and a little mystery. | Reviewed by Wynter on 9 August 2009 | 4. | Great mystery thriller! [Rating: 9/10] This drama is one of the best I've seen, Yuji, Yasuko, Hiroshi and Kyozo make this a great watch keeping me hooked to the unravelling mystery. The filming for this series was very well done (something I usually don't feel too much of that in other series) and the music was definitely appropriate. Overall, with its nicely mysterious plotline, this is one of my favourite dramas ever! | Reviewed by Shindou on 12 March 2006 | 5. | A Good Dorama! [Rating: 9/10] Oda Yuji is back to his typical good guy role, a doctor this time, in a hospital setting. Ysauko Matsuyuki is just beautiful. This is one of those mysteries that will keep you until the end. Not well known but this is one of the top show in that season. Worth watching. Also. good performance from the cast... | Reviewed by jdfan on 27 April 2003 | 6. | Excellent suspense Medical drama [Rating: 9/10] Woa this series is quite exiting even from the start , it's a medical drama with a difference with suspense , mystery and family conflicts thrown in .

| 1. | Comments by Shindou [Rating: 9/10] One of the best mysteries I've seen so far. Though the main plot may be a bit of a stretch, the script, music, acting are all excellent. There were some obvious weaknesses in the plot (like Yasuko seeming to not have to do police work on so many days...), but I believe the screenwriters sacrificed that for the main plot to keep it rather captivating. It definitely kept me hooked ep after ep. A top-notch cast with Oda Yuji, Abe Hiroshi, Nagatsuka Kyozo and Matsuyuki Yasuko played their roles very well and definitely made this one of my favourite jdoramas. | 2. | Comments by CtrlV [Rating: 10/10] Loved it! It was on local TV once a week, so the suspence was elevated even more since I had to wait each episode out, and trust me there was much to wait for during those weeks. I love this series, and im glad i was exposed to it. It's a mystery that will keep you guessing, but not in a cheesy way, in a way that will keep you interested. The soundtrack is also worthy of mentioning. | 3. | Comments by emiko [Rating: 10/10] This got to be the best drama series in 2002. I really like how the story goes from episode to episode. It's not a love story(my fav type of series) but I still eager to finish watching it ASAP and I really admire all the crew and the actors in this series. Thumbs up to Oda-san and Matsuyuki-san! | 4. | Comments by jdfan [Rating: 9/10] Oda Yuji is back to his typical good guy role, a surgent, in a hospital setting. Ysauko Matsuyuki is just beautiful. This is one of those stories that will keep you until the end. This is worth watching. In general, good performance from the cast. | 5. | Comments by Signo [Rating: 7/10] Turning point in episode 4/5. Before there were too many implausible accidents. Afterwards the story became interesting. The thunderstorms every night are way too implausible, even though it was good for the atmosphere. I like the end. | 6. | Comments by williu [Rating: 8/10] A decent drama, but it isn't as compelling as it could have been. Still, the actors do a great job with what they have. The drama is slow paced, with a few very suspenseful parts, but not bad. | 7. | Comments by zombie-girl [Rating: ?/10] The best title song ever! I love the opening credits! This show is so full of melodramatic cliche, I can't stop watching it! Yuji Oda is good, but so much better when he does comedy! | 8. | Comments by K.T.Tran [Rating: 9/10] Good mystery drama. You watch and wonder who did it. Its good.
Just maybe a bit of a slow feel to the drama, but its good mystery in a hospital type drama. Better then N's Aoi | 9. | Comments by ct_subang [Rating: 7/10] its a bit draggy in the early eps but it builds up towards the end..u can't wait to watch the next eps... never liked mystery drama...but this...I LIKE!! | 10. | Comments by Eyeyore [Rating: 7/10] storyline quite ok....but Oda Yuji is sooooooooo cool. he kind of overshadowed Abe Hiroshi, didn't he? Are Japanese hospitals really that huge ?? | 11. | Comments by stargirl [Rating: 10/10] This is a delight to watch. I was riveted to my seat the whole time. I think this is something fresh because of the mystery and suspense. | 12. | Comments by Wynter [Rating: 7/10] A good medical drama that is a little on the dark side. There is mystery to unfold, but I found the plot points a little coincidental. | 13. | Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 10/10] trop de suspence!! Des revirements de situations hallucinants!!

1. | cirrus i was glued from the start to the very end. i had no idea who was the good guy and who the baddie, so full marks for suspense. what i really like about the show was the way the whole story unfolds itself. everything really made sense in the end. plus, this drama has got an excellent cast! yuji oda's face gave nothing away, love his acting! yasuko also did really well. even the supporting actors acted very convincingly. this drama definitely surpassed my expectations and is one of the best whodunnit dramas i've watched in a while. | 2. | CtrlV This one deserves some more recognition. A great drama with a great story, but what makes this one different is that its not focused on love, and relationships. It feels like a refreshing break, the plot is great, the story can get very suspenseful. plus, great soundtrack. all in all, great drama that you should really not miss, especially if you're a fan of suspense. | 3. | kassytakuya I love this dorama so much. It is so interesting that I can finish it all in one night without sleeping..
Yuuji Oda is born to be an evil-like doctor.. ^^
A smart doctor, cool, cold, yet very charming.
If you like a romance-proof dorama, then this is a must see dorama!!! I love it!! | 4. | tatsx Terrific suspenseful thriller. Great exploration of revenge/retribution/atonement issues. Only downfall is, that I can never watch it again without knowing "who did it". But it was exciting the first time through. Seems somewhat influenced by E.R. | 5. | emiko A well done series with great actors and good storyline. Although it might seems like a slow and boring series but as the story goes on its get better and better. | 6. | Shakyamuni A mystery unravels in this story about a a talented surgeon. It's really interesting and has some good performances througout. Not your typical dorama. | 7. | salsayanni Very GOOD ! | 8. | paperlantern | 9. | siu dong |
