1. | Comments by apple_grenade [Rating: 6/10] I'm rather conflicted, which is why I refrained from commenting on this drama for a long time. On one hand, I'm a lawyer. On the other hand, it IS somewhat funny. The pun, for one.
Most people hype this drama as 'the drama that makes fun of lawyers'. They are wrong. On the contrary, this drama shows what a smart lawyer is capable of doing and the kind of situations out of which they can get you. The cases aren't tough; many of the endings were way predictable. It's still fun to see how Kuzu and his junior get themselves the win. Some of the jokes are quite funny. There isn't much court trial portrayed, rather, more on the investigation. There's also overacting here and there. Hentaiyarou-tachi and perverts will love the show for all the sexual innuendoes and actual X-rated shots. This is especially so when the guys go to the themed club. Innocent goody-two-shoes might find some episodes hard to take, like the one where the murder victim and her stepfather had incestuous relationship.
Overall, the drama is okay. Not terrible, but not particularly good either. |
2. | Comments by Jackykero [Rating: 6/10] Bengoshi no Kuzu is a fun light-hearted comedy, based on funny characters , lawyers in a small firm which will deal with 1 case per episode.
Each episode has the same layout: a new case is given to the 2 main leads, the senior and crazy Kuzu and the fresh lawyer Takeda. The young lawyer does all the serious work while the old one has fun, and finally creates the surprise by being the only one who undercovered the truth at the end of the episode.
The cast is good and all actors play well, the jokes are funny too but the repetition is a bit too much beyond the 5 first episodes.
I believe that more character development or interaction would have given more depth and interest to this series.
To conclude, I'd say it's a fun comedy to try with medium expectations, and you don't have to go to the end of it anyway. There is nevertheless one good reason to at least watch 1 episode: the extraordinary performance of Toyokawa Etsushi, so different fromhis usually serious roles such as Aoi Tori. I could not believe my eyes ! |
3. | Comments by RedSamurai [Rating: 9/10] Without being a masterpiece, it's nevertheless a really good series that has it all. It's in no way one of those plot-centered dramas, it's more of a very light plotted, entertaining but not exaggerated comedy piece.
It's hard to give a general feeling about the cast, since it varies from a top-notch leading role by 'Toyokawa Etsushi' (nothing less from him), to a just so-so supporting role by 'Ito Hideaki' as the newbie motivated assistant, etc.
However, the final package manages for some reason to cast his magic on the viewer... It's at the same time addicting and very pleasing to watch, and you will probably love if the show were to be made a little longer so that one can enjoy watching the filthy yet great Kuzu character (gotta love the kind of father he is :D)
All in all, it's a great refreshing dorama that's worth your time! |
4. | Comments by EstherM [Rating: 9/10] What a well thought through show combining so many elements I love: Toyokawa Etsushi is superb as the dirty-minded, politcally incorrect lawyer Kuzu, the quite realistic cases looking at life behind the facade, the random elements of humour, the healthy dose of smut, the excentric rituals of the main cast, the oddballs appearing here and there ... Grand!
One word of warning, itLs quite a unique show, in which Toyokawa is sporting the worst permed hairdo ever. Both the perm and the show wonLt appeal to everybody. |
5. | Comments by pinkokoro [Rating: 8/10] COMPLETE. Toyokawa Etsushi is a wonderful actor, he has taken different roles and yet able to portray them very well. In this drama he play a pervert freecare lawyer, Kuzu (can translate to scam xD). The handsome Hideaki Ito play a new lawyer with a sense of justice in the firm that has to work alongside Kuzu. Has many comedic moments. This was a nice watch. Kuzu's character is very unique and portrayed well by Etsushi. |
6. | Comments by KAZdoramma [Rating: 7/10] WoW ! loved this dorama! Toyokawa Etsushi is such a good actor as in this dorama he puts on the act of being a goof when he actually is a great lawyer. His realistic acting is great when combined with Ito Hideaki who is a irritatingly naive character! i really do recommend this dorama and i suppose i was pretty harsh giving this only a 7 but im harsh so!!! |
7. | Comments by nickylynn [Rating: 8/10] Setting aside Kuzu's grossness, I couldn't help but like him. I enjoyed this. I liked it more than I thought I would. Kuzu's daughter was a joy to watch. The way she interacted with Kuzu was fun. Ito Hideaki's geekiness was also amusing. Each episode had a moment of depth to it. Enjoyable, worth watching. |
8. | Comments by Kirari Ililah [Rating: 8/10] HILARIOUS!!! I love Ito Hideaki, and I know everyone would in this one. He's so goofy, and his partner Toyokawa makes the drama even more enjoyful to watch. Though it's not for all ages, I think this takes stereotype comedy to the best ever! Story isn't too well plotted, but it's still great stuff! |
9. | Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 4/10] Besides the 2 lead actors this drama seems to be a low budget drama. I had some hopes before watching it but the plot's hollow from start to finish & with mediocre acting performances. It's not totally crap, I have seen much worse drama. But I have to categorize it as a waste of time. |
10. | Comments by Lady Zhuge [Rating: 8/10] I think this drama is quite underrated although it is heavily dependent on individual humor preferences. Subtle lessons are taught without being preachy. Anyway, I found it entertaining and there was good integration between the main characters and the cases. |
11. | Comments by chibichan [Rating: 8/10] the scum (kuzu) of lawyer, tells a story about a lawyer name Kuzu and his fellow partner. He has an unique personality (kinda pervert), but his intuition is sharp and always win ini every case he assigned for. I laugh a lot watching this series |
12. | Comments by TimThein [Rating: 10/10] Very funny, and clever. I want to buy the DVD set with English subtitles if possible. Aki Hoshino is very cute in this show. It's nice that the episodes are fairly independent of each other, so I don't have to watch the episodes in order. |
13. | Comments by aik0 [Rating: 5/10] Case by case. This show seems to stike a good balance between the case and the characters. The two protagonists having opposite personalities creates some funny bits. Yet don't expect the case to be sophisicated, plot holes to be expected. |
14. | Comments by icpmat [Rating: 7/10] It's a case-by-case drama, with fairly independent episodes. In each episode there were a good number of scenes involving Itoh Hideki's character and Kuzu, which make up for the somewhat mostly lackluster story development. |
15. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 5/10] "Kuzu" in Japanese means trash or garbage which was supposed to be a pun for the title but I thought it was very appropriate. Granted, it did have a few bright spots, but after most episodes I felt a need to take a shower. |
16. | Comments by marspeach [Rating: 9/10] I didn't expect to like it so much! Really funny and just entertaining to watch. Loved to see such a different role in Toyokawa Etsushi just after watching Aishiteiru to Itte Kure. |
17. | Comments by Super No. 1 [Rating: 5/10] I'm not a big fan of lawyer shows. I wasn't too entertained by this series. I thought it was repetitive and boring. It was almost the same thingin every episode. |
18. | Comments by onigiriman [Rating: 8/10] This turned out to be much more interesting that I had anticpated. Toyokawa was pretty good in a rather unflattering role... well, unflattering for him. |
19. | Comments by nadrika [Rating: ?/10] This VCD was on sale at half-price in JB. Since yougashi recommended me this, i bought it. HAHAHA. Sorry Yutaka this was on sale HAD to buy. ;) |
20. | Comments by aoi_dolphine [Rating: 8/10] Being someone who likes police or law dram I like this alot. Not to mention there's Ito and Sakamoto(last episode) in this drama. |
21. | Comments by xhidex33 [Rating: 7/10] Hated it at first, but got better towards the middle. Some cases were fun to watch, but Kuzu's gross. hahaha. |
22. | Comments by Higashi [Rating: 10/10] ... bwahahaha. I love Toyokawa Etsushi even when he plays character like that XD. It was way funny, really. |
23. | Comments by lawsco [Rating: 8/10] From Malaysia - Pretty funny at times; this one gets an 8 just because its a decent lawyer movie |
