Aishiteiru to Ittekure [愛していると言ってくれ] Rating: 1/10 (Watched) | Akihabara@DEEP [アキハバラ@DEEP] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) An Otaku drama that can be confusing for those who do not have an idea of the Otaku culture in Japan. Thanks to Densha Otoko, I at least know what an Otaku is, and that Akihabara is their sacred place. Akihabara@DEEP potrays even more about the otakus and their lifestyle (eating oden & umaibo, going to 'maid' cafe).
This drama is a bit confusing at the beginning, and you just got to be patient and watch through the first 3 episodes. Then the frame of the story sort of kicks in, and you begin to develop an interest in the characters.
Definitely a different sort of drama than the ones I'm used to, and there are a lot of new actors in it. Although I prefer the older bunch of actors (Kimura, Takenouchi, Sorimachi, etc), the current array of fresh young actors are probably better suited for this kind of series. | Anego [アネゴ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Main attraction of this series is Akanishi Jin of course. But I was surprised by the wonderful performance by the lady who played Sakaki Eriko. Highly commendable for all single working ladies out there. |
Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Big wing [ビッグウイング] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Didn't get to finish watching this series. The story revolves around a new stewardess learning her ways in Haneda airport, her constant scrapes and her not-quite-so-platonic relationship with her supervisor. I think only Takashi Kashiwabara's fans would enjoy this, which is the only reason I watched it. | Boku dake no Madonna [僕だけのマドンナ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) This drama is really not worth watching unless you are a fan of Hideaki Takizawa. Most of the time it drags a bit, especially after the first episode. The only saving grace to this drama is the ending, which was sorta cute and the clincher kiss between Kyon and Surumi at the stadium is SUPER HOT!! |
Brother Beat [ブラザー☆ビート] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) This drama is not too great, I find the actress acting as Haru-san trying too hard to be cute. Basically it is just a series with a cast of cute young men intended to be a hit with the young female viewers. | Chakushin Ari [着信あり] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) This is the first time I've ever watched a horror series. I like this one very much, although I must say that I get the feeling that in the end the director just HAD to add another twist, and this really spoilt the ending. It would have been so much better without the unneccessary twist. | Dekichatta Kekkon [できちゃった結婚] Rating: 8/10 (Bought) |
Densha Otoko [電車男] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) this has to be one of the weirdest drama's i've ever watched to date. fantastic acting for itoh misaki..she really protrays hermes beautifully and yamada-san did a great job as well. oguri shun and the tall guy from gokusen2 were in there as well..as well as horikita maki from Nobuta wo Produce..great cast!! | Double score [ダブル スコア] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Dragon Zakura [ドラゴン桜] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Great drama!! Although I've watched plenty of dramas with school plots especially concerning delinquent students, this one is definitely different from the rest. I love Hiroshi Abe, and I like his protrayal of Sakuragi Kenji. And Kamiyama and Teppei are really cute in this one!! |
Engine [エンジン] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I enjoyed this drama while I watched it, but now that it's been almost a year since I've seen the series I keep on confusing it with Pride. | Fire Boys [ファイアーボーイズ 〜め組の大吾〜] Rating: 2/10 (Watched) This dorama had such potential to be a good drama: First, nobody has done a fireman dorama yet (as far as I knew). Secondly, the cast was full of promising young actors and actresses with a few great senior actors.
BUT, I find the dorama so very annoying due to the main protagonist just trying too damn hard. In every single episode he's got a challenge to face, and in every damn episode he'll work at it so hard till tears run down his face and at the end of every frigging episode he'll succeed. I didn't even finish this one due to the lack of hardsubs from episode 6 onwards, but seriously that was enough. | Galileo [ガリレオ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I did not get to watch the whole series, because it was a toss up between which one I should download: Galileo or Hana Kimi, and Hana Kimi won.
However, what few episodes I managed to catch, I really liked. Plus, I'm a sucker for Masaharu Fukuyama..so I'm giving it a 9 out of 10. |
Ganbatte Ikimasshoi [がんばっていきまっしょい] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Loved this drama despite it being almost a copy of 'water boys' except they replaced synchronized swimming with kayaking. Great chemistry between Suzuki Anne and Nishikido Ryo, but a major disappointment was when they replaced the original person who played Nakata Saburo (I think the guy's name is Uchi-something) with the guy from KaTTun. The new guy wasnt half as broodingly kakkoii as the original Nakata. | Gokusen [ごくせん] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) love love love this show!!!!
sawada shin is kakkoii..hehe slurps..n sighs..
but my fave is kumai (kuma) who is round n kawaii n loyal to yankumi!!! wished that sawada ended up with yankumi eventho that may seem a little paedophilic..LOL | Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Not too bad, although decidedly incomparable to the original gokusen..the series seemed to bank on the good looks of the stars instead of a good solid script and good acting. |
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I think I saw Good Luck before I saw Pride and Engine, so I have better reviews for this one because I haven't gotten sick of Takuya Kimura playing the same old character over and over again.
On a whole this drama is more solid than Pride and Engine as well, with Shinichi Tsutsumu and Shibasaki Kou making up a solid cast. The acting is excellent for the main four characters, and although I didn't get that warm buzz I usually get after watching a great dorama, I still enjoyed watching this one immensely. | GTO [麻辣教師]
| Hachimitsu to Kuroba [ハチミツとクローバー] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I am in a love-hate relationship with this drama because some parts of it I absolutely enjoyed watching while other parts I wish I can just cut out of the drama.
To those of you who have not watched it yet, look forward to the interaction between Nirimiya Hiroki's charater and the main actress(sorry I forgot your name), Nomiya+Yamada and Ikuta Toma's self-discovering journey.
I really didn't enjoy the side story of Asaka Seto and the glasses guy. |
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) i loved this drama a lot!! especially about the way the F4 changed and become less selfabsorbed and were nicer to tsukushi!! didnt realise matsumoto jun can be quite endearing, as do oguri shin. loved them both in Gokusen as well!! | Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) At first I was afraid that this series would be a disappointment like Gokusen 2, but when I saw that the entire cast was the same as the original Hana Yori Dango that reassured me a bit. This series is better than the first one to me because it shows the development of the relationship between Tsukushi and Domyouji, with a bit more input from Hanazawa Rui, Nishikadou Soujiroh, and Mimasaka Akira. And I love how the drama showcased more of Yuki. | Hanaikusa [花いくさ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Downloaded this by accident, it was slightly above average only because I haven't seen a show on geishas (memoirs of a geisha doesn't count). And then there was Nakamura Toru. |
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e [花ざかりの君たちへ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Oh god this drama is sooo hilarious and one of the top must watch dramas in 2007. Although Horikita Maki looks NOTHING like a boy, it's still enjoyable to watch her sit with her legs apart when the boys cross their legs. Oguri Shun, as usual, potrays the quiet brooding hero flawlessly. My applause however, goes to Nobuo Kyou as Oscar "Don't call me Masao" Himejima, who never failed to crack me up whenever he makes an appearance. Luv u OSCAR!!! | Hero Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Well, this drama gives me mixed feelings..it's really touching to think that it's based on a real story and i do love the sound track to this series. However, in my opinion i think that the people who made this drama tried to make it TOO touching..the acting feels really fake at times, as if every one is trying too hard |
Ikebukuro West Gate Park [池袋ウエストゲートパーク] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Only watched it in 2007 eventhough the dorama has been out since 2000/01. As usual, I absolutely love the work of the director (who directed Kisarazu Cat's Eye and Tiger & Dragon). Great potrayal from Tomoya Nagase and everyone else. Quite surprised to see Ken Watanabe for I had never seen him in a dorama before. Of course I must mention that this dorama rekindled my flame for Yosuke Kubozuka who was my first Japanese actor crush (first saw him as Kikuchi in GTO, my first j-dorama!!). Anyway, highly recommended although I think Cat's Eye and Tiger & Dragon would probably be more worthwhile because the director has matured so much in both shows. | Ima Ai ni Yukimasu [いま会いにゆきます] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) This drama has a nice, sweet feel to it. It might be a bit slow, but I like the last few episodes which were really sad yet meaningful. | Imagine [イマジン] Rating: 3/10 (Watched) |
Itazura na Kiss [イタズラなKiss] Rating: 10/10 (Bought) | Itsumo futari de [いつもふたりで] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Not bad at all, I would say. Probably not worth buying, but definitely a must watch for Takako Matsu's fans. Eventhough their relationship only developed towards the end, Hachi and Mizuho's friendship was really entertaining to watch. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that they changed Takashi Kashiwabara's role with someone else. But the other guy did quite a good job, it's just that I keep on imagining what it would be like had Kassy continued in that role. | Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) |
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Funny story about a bachelor's life...Hiroshi Abe is totally adorable as a cocky and talented hermit cum architect. Mind you, I was completely thrown away by the sight of his bare behind in the first episode..didn't see that one coming. haha | Kiken na Aneki [危険なアネキ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Just finished watching this drama today!! Great drama, light hearted most of the time. And I love the guy who acts as Nakamura Takumi, i think his name is Yuuta something..he reminds me of Takashi Kashiwabara when he first started out..kakkoii!!! | Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Wow, this drama's kind of hot. You just get the feeling that you are waiting for something so stir up between Matsumoto Jun and Koyuki's characters. Highly recommended to the romantics out there. |
Kindaichi shonen no Jikenbo (2005) [金田一少年の事件簿] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) | Kindaichi shonen no jikenbo 1 [金田一少年の事件簿 1] Rating: 6/10 (Bought) | Kisarazu Cat's Eye [木更津キャッツアイ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Nya!!!!
Great dorama, different and funny. The first episode was hard to understand, but you wont regret sticking on the story because it is so hilariously entertaining. Makes you want to visit Kisarazu!! The lady acting as Miss Mirei is a bit too old for the role though, but otherwise the drama is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KISARAZU...CATS..nyah!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Koishite Shinitai [恋して死にたい] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Koori no sekai [冰の世界] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) | Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |
Kurosagi [クロサギ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) I profess to be a big fan of the YamaPi + Horikita Maki combo after watching Nobuta wo Produce. So this dorama was a plus for me. It started out a bit confusing, but it got more interesting as the show went on. I'd recommend it to anyone, not just Yamapi fans. | Kyumei byoto 24 ji [救命病棟24時] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Last Christmas [ラストクリスマス] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) It's not great, the is a little stiffness and lack of chemistry between Oda Yuji and the main actress. However, it's not bad either. Once the drama went along there was less stiffness on Oda's part, and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I mainly watch it to see the progress of Tamaki Hiroshi and the lady painter. |
Long vacation [ロングバケーション] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) | Love generation [ラブジェネレーション] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) | Love letter Rating: 7/10 (Bought) |
Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) | Lunch no Joou [ランチの女王] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Majo no jouken [魔女の条件] Rating: 10/10 (Bought) |
Meitantei Conan: Sayonara Made no Prologue [名探偵コナン- 工藤新一への挑戦状] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Oguri Shun did a really well presentation of Kudo Shinichi. Dunno who's the girl who played Ran but she potrayed the emotionally insecure Ran perfectly. Although I like Mayuko san, I think Sonoko's character should be exaggerated a wee bit more like in the manga. And I think there was more chemistry between Shun and Mayuko than with him and the actress who played Ran. | Moto Kare [元カレ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) The drama is enjoyable although I personally hate the ending. Many women would probably be on Team Nao, because we know oh so many biatches out there trying to get their filthy paws on our men. Hehehe
But the side story between Hiroe and Chitose was riveting too. I rooted for Yuuji though. A standing ovation for Sonim, who always gives an extraordinary performance in her roles. | Mukodono 2003 [ムコ殿2003] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) |
Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Narita Rikon [成田離婚] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I really like this drama, although the plot of making over a fugly chick is very old..this series spins it in a way that's refreshing. Good job Shuji, Akira and Nobuko (Nobuta)!! |
Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Haven't watched such an entertaining dorama like this one for so long. Ueno Juri gave an excellent performance as well asTamaki i'm-not-sure-what's-his-1st-name-is. It's great to see Ueno-san potray an anime character that is also realistic at the same time. She really did surpass my expectations because I have really only seen her in more sombre roles before (Orange Days, Kindaichi 2005 & Swing Girls). And Tamaki-san showed that he can inject humour and emotion into his usual cool-kakkoii facade. Oh, I must not forget to mention the rest of the cast gave a kampeki performance too, especially Eita, and the Myoja timpani player.
Highly recommended to everyone who enjoys a good laugh. Not for those looking for serious love relationship dramas. | Omiai kekkon [お見合い結婚] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Orange Days [オレンジデイズ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) A refreshing story about the days of youth, easy to relate to since I'm at uni. I forgot wat's the name of the actress, but she potrays a partially deaf musician brilliantly. And Tsumabuki, Narimiya and the girl from Densha Otoko act really well too. Definitely worth a watch. |
Otousan [おとうさん] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Over Time [オーバー・タイム] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Perfect love [パーフェクトラブ!] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) |
Pride [プライド] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Not too shabby, if you are not bored by the numerous dramas featuring Takuya Kimura as the nice guy with some personal demons to settle with and reaching a goal at the end. | Psycho Doctor [サイコドクター] Rating: 4/10 | Remote [リモート] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) not really a great drama..the only thing that i feel worth mentioning is that due to the numerous phone conversations between kyoko fukada and the kinki kid guy, i realise that he has a really nice voice. |
rinbukyoku [輪舞曲] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) Much as I love Takenouchi, this drama is draggy, confusing AND to top it off, it is also extremely boring. | Rookie! Rating: 8/10 (Watched) This drama is okay-ish..funny at times and sad at others. I especially like the appearance of the other member of Kinki Kid (Dohmoto Tsuyoshi) during the last bit of the last episode. | Shomuni [ショムニ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) |
Shomuni Final [ショムニ ファイナル/庶務二課] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Shomuni Season 2 [ショムニ 2] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Shota no sushi [将太の寿司] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) |
Star no Koi [スタアの恋] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Nice concept, but I wouldnt have watched it if it didnt star Norika Fujuwara and Kusanagi Tsuyoshi. | Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ] Rating: 10/10 (Bought) | Suekko chounan ane san nin [末っ子長男姉三人] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) I was a bit sceptical at first because I didn't know any of the main actors in this dorama. But, the dorama managed to deliver a sort of entertainment that's lasting due to its family values. Plus the drama showcased a lot of the talents that made it big later such as Okada Jun, and the Densha Otoko guy amongst some of them. |
Summer snow Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Sweet season [スゥイート・シーズン] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Taiho shichauzo [逮捕しちゃうぞ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Itoh Misaki can't act |
Tiger & Dragon [タイガー&ドラゴン] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Ahhhh rakugo in a rakugo!!!!! It's a great eye-opener for us non-Japanese to another side of Japan's cultural roots. Most of us are familiar enough with ikebana, bon odori and tea ceremonies but not so many knew of rakugo.
This drama is hilarious!!! The clash between the modern and old Japanese culture entwined with family issues and liberally dotted with comedy makes it perfect for everyone, I think. | Trick [トリック] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Highly enterntaining despite the not-so-great plots and dodgy magic tricks. Whoever wrote the story must be obsessed with small breasts and big penises because every single episode has reference to these two things. Superb acting on both Nakama Yukie and Abe Hiroshi's parts. | Trick Season 2 [トリック2] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) A great continuation from Trick 2!! Still as dumb as th first one, but the storylines improved a lot. Would have loved to see a development of the relationship between Yamada Naoko (Nakama Yukie) and Ueda Jiro (Abe Hiroshi) though. Especially loved the special scenes where Nakama-san and Abe-san talked about things that happened on the set. :) |
Trick Season 3 [トリック3] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) The third installation of this fabulous series, and it keeps on improving everytime. Better plot than the previous two series, although I think the first Trick series is the most hilarious. At the risk of providing a spoiler, I have to say that I absolutely LOVED the ending because finally you know there's a development in the Ueda + Yamada relationship. The cases are pretty easy to solve if you read a lot of detective stories like Detective Conan or Kindaichi. The one thing I don't like is the replacement of Ishihara with Kikuchi. Ishihara is far more entertaining in his dumb ways. | Water Boys [ウォーターボーイズ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) | With love Rating: 10/10 (Bought) |
Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Zettai Kareshi [絶対彼氏] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) I've read the manga, and the drama is set in different setting although the main storyline about a girl purchasing a lover robot is the same. I must say that whilst reading the manga, Night's movement and speech did not come across as mechanically as it does in the drama. The series starts out a bit annoyingly, as Night tries to win over Riiko's love. But the series gets better as it goes, and it's worthwhile waiting for the last few episodes.
However, as the drama progressed and Night's new found emotions emerged..Mokomichi's acting did become less robotic and more man-like. Of course, Mizushima Hiro's acting as Asamoto Soshi is so-so but I guess his looks makes up for it. | |
