| 1. | Worst drama I ever watch [Rating: 1/10] This is a spoiler, so please do not continue reading if you do not want to know any spoilers.
Like I said before in my previous comments, I will be coming back to give this drama a 1/10 if Toji ended up with Makoto. So, here I am. This drama really sux big time. As a big Tsuyoshifs fan, I have to say that this is by far the worst and ridiculous script Komatsu Eriko ever written for Tsuyoshi. In fact the worst drama of Tsuyoshi. Toji is an A-S-S-H-O-L-E, Makoto is a S-L-U-T and Nao is silly. If I were Nao, I will go for some other guy. Even Tsuyoshi himself could not stand Toji for being so indecisive.
You know what is so ridiculous about this drama? From episode 1 to episode 5, we can see how a mean person Makoto is, but somehow, seeing that Makoto has more supporter than Nao in Japan, I guess that Komatsu Eriko knew that too and because Hirosue is lead actress and Tsuyoshifs co-star in the popular gSummer Snowh, from episode 6 onwards, we see the sudden change in Makotofs character. From a mean lady, all of a sudden, we see her turning into a soft-spoken one who tried to act pity, gaining the sympathy of hundred and thousands of audiences. And then, she became the one everyone pities instead of Nao. Wow, great! So, now all the S-L-U-T-S can go ahead and act pity to break up othersf happiness. You have all the support from those no common sense people. Just because you like Hirosue and just because she is the one as Makoto doesnft mean what Makoto did is correct. Even if my favourite actress is the one as Makoto, I will never support her as no matter what, she is the one trying to get in between a happy couple. We need some common sense here, people.
Story Plot:
No originality and extremely boring. The whole 10 episodes is just basically 2 women fighting over a retarded guy who could not even make up his mind until the last episode. The only scenes I like is the 2 kissing scenes of Toji and Nao and the scene where Nao gave Makoto a tight slap, other than that, this drama makes me fall asleep. If not for Tsuyoshi, the nice soundtrack and good acting from Rina, this show will not even get any single mark from me. If only I can give it a 0.
Acting:
Tsuyoshi did a pretty fair job as the retarded a-s-s-h-o-l-e. But not much of a challenge. Tsuyoshi is better off in comical roles. He looked a bit stiff in romance scenes. As for Hirosue, I think this lady still need some brushing up in her acting. I cannot stand her crying. Looks very fake. And she was like trying to act like a tough OL, which is not convincing at all as her voice sounded too high-pitch and yet soft-spoken. The best acting is from Uchiyama Rina. Like I said before, I never like her before watching this drama. But after watching this, I start to like her a lot. And this girl can really act. Very natural and talented actress. She can cry very naturally and yet not fake. And we can see giving all her love and devotion for Toji. Sonim did a pretty fair job too. Quite like her.
Chemistry:
There is no chemistry between all the characters at all. Tsuyoshi does not look compatible with Hirosue at all as this lady looked way too matured and a bit taller than him. Anyway, I thought that Toji and Makoto do not look right for each other, as Toji is a retarded salaryman while Makoto is a tough OL. But on second thought, they may kind of look compatible since one is an a-s-s-h-o-l-e and another one is a s-l-u-t. Toji looked compatible with Nao since Nao is much shorter and younger, but too bad, the ending was stupid.
Last but not least, just want to say that thank goodness, Tsuyoshi will choose Nao in real life. So, to all Nao supporters, do not worry, you still have the support from Tsuyoshi himself, myself and the rest of the people with any common sense. | Reviewed by pearl on 15 September 2003 | 2. | i think it is perfectly done well.. [Rating: 10/10] this is a very realistic drama... it shows the unexpected happenings in real life... i think this is a drama worth to be awarded on... if it could make one make such a BIG fuss over a drama, the actors & actoresses must had done a great job ne~... the motive of a drama is to make the viewer more engrossed in it.. so therefore if one could get so worked up by it, i think it is a PERFECT drama...
a drama is a piece of art where the artist plays out he's feeling and emotions.. & in art, there's no right or wrong.. so i dont think we should quarrel over this.. this is just a piece of work by the writer... he is just trying to express his feelings.. so we cant say he's wrong or bad or watever...
although some may think that it has a bad ending, its hard to forget someone you love, especially when you get dumped without knowing the reasons. i think Nao did NOT considered toji's feelings when she wanted toji to stay by her side. i'm glad that she did in the end, and let toji back to his ex-girlfriend. i personally disliked Nao in the drama.. i think she act-cute and she's really holding Toji up TOO TIGHT... well, i also agree that Makoto is mean about being jealous.. but hey, she did realised her mistake about being mean.. she realised her mistake she made 2 years ago as well & is willing to change.. so why can't we just give the girl a second chance?? i'm really glad that the drama ended up all fine for Makoto.. i also pitied Nao in the end but only AFTER she let go of Toji..
i know this is a little off-topic but had anyone heard of the Yellow Ribbon society? if theres something as giving the ex-convict another chance, there should be no problem broadcasting a drama that shows a lover giving his/her ex-love a second chance... as long as Makoto realises her mistakes before Nao did, i dont see whats the big fuss in Toji ending up with her..
Anyway, we all can't blame the actors and actoress, they are just playing according to the script, right? & pls dont quarrel over a drama guys.. we are here to review over it & not to quarrel.. so pls dont mind others talking bad about certain actresses/actors..
well, everytime i recommend a drama to others, i use the word "i think that....".. because this is your own personal opinion on the drama.. not all dislike/like it... so we should not say "this drama is the worst on earth".. if u meant it that way, perhaps you could rephrase it like: "i think that this drama is not done well".. or if you like it a lot, u should not blurt out "this drama is the most ULTIMATE!!".. u could just hurt the feelings of others who did not enjoy it.. so u could say something like: "i personally fancy this drama a lot"...
these are just own personal thoughts.. i'm sure everyone of us has a different way of wanting the storyline to progress.. pls pls pls pls don make such a great deal about it... i'm sure we all have our own favorites & of course, our own opinions.. thanks. - no offence - | Reviewed by kiimura+akuya on 5 December 2005 | 3. | Definately a must-watch. [Rating: 10/10] I don't understand, if one can get so worked up over a drama, then it must have been pretty damn engaging, ne? So to the person who gave this drama a 1: are you really reflecting upon the quality of this drama or are you being biased by your dissatisfaction of the ending? I do believe that if you hadn't enjoyed the drama one little bit, you would not have bothered to write a long long essay review for it.
Personally, I thought that this drama was excellent. The acting exhibited by Tsu, Ryo and Rina was all A-class standard. I do agree that in Ryo's character in Motokare is a big leap from the "sweetie girl-next-door" stereotypes that she normally plays, but as always, Ryo's superb performance pulls her thru and she is utterly convincing as the independent and work-orientated Makoto.
I don't think anyone could have played the part of Toji better than Tsu. Toji's indecisiveness and hesitancy seems to come so naturally to him. Even tho, at times (esp the scene where Makoto sacrificed her self-respect and ran to ask Toji if he still liked her a 2nd time), Toji aggravated me to the point when I felt like reaching into the TV slapping him awake it made the ending all the more enjoyable for me when he finally decided to voice his true feelings.
I must admit that at the beginning, I did feel sorry for Nao having Makoto deliberately trying to get between her and Toji, but as the dorama progressed, Rina's character lost all her independance and began to cling onto Toji like he was tje only thing that existed in her world. The line "Perhaps one day you will learn to love me" was the last push I needed to completely detach my sympathy for Nao. I could not help but hoped that Nao could have saved herself some self-respect and walked away sooner from the man that no longer loved her with a little more dignity.
The plot is not complicated. Makoto and Toji dated for 6 months in Uni but broke up suddenly and lost all contact until 2 years later when Makoto is hired by Toji's company to be the publicity agent. Toji and Makoto meet again but Toji already has a new girlfriend, Nao. Makoto's appearance causes huge commotions to Toji and Nao's relationship which leads Toji to question himself whether he is really over Makoto or not. Nao, after finding out that Toji's heart lies with another girl is extremely upset and Toji feels that since he is responsible for Nao's discontent, he is now obliged to be with her. On the other hand, Makoto has experienced some setbacks in work and her only choice is to move away from Tokyo and seek work elsewhere. Resigned to the fact that Toji is now Nao's, Makoto forces herself to suppress her feelings and forget about Toji.... Will this be another re-enactment of 2 years ago?
A rollercoaster ride of emotions, this drama was a pleasure to watch. | Reviewed by nagaioyasumi on 16 December 2003 | 4. | It's complicated matters!! [Rating: 8/10] On the whole it definitely deserve much much more better then a 1 rating. Perhaps we should look deeper into the story. It started wif Toji dating with Nao, and then, Makoto, Toji's ex came into picture as a working partner. Like many had said, it seems that makoto had been the one who dumped Toji and now, wants him back. But if we look deeper, we'll realised that right from the start of the 1st episode, we know that Toji wasn't really that in love with Nao. We can tell from the acting that Nao was the one who is taking a more active role in the relationship. Like eg, taking the initiative to kiss Toji, pressing him for a summer holiday. While all along Toji had been quite passive and most of the time it feels like he is juz going along with Nao. Then Makoto came along. It's obvious that they both haven got over each other. Having the same handphone accessory and such. Yes, Makoto was the one who dumped Toji, but she still love him. Like that scene in the elevator with Makoto asking Toji to think what he said before that made her re-evaluate their relationship. U know, like many relationship, sometimes, people often said things that they don't mean. A form of reverse psychology. Because they feel insecure about the relationship, that's y they try to test it. In this case, Makoto broke up with Toji, with the hope that he will ask for a patch, that he will go find her, in a way, proving his love for Makoto, but he didn't.That's his character flaws. so when Makoto turn up in his life again, he's in a dilemma. he had to choose between following his heart or taking responsibility in his commitment with Nao. In any relationship, it always take 2 hands to clap. Makoto, Toji both have their fault and Nao is the most innocent victim of their relationship. As Nao truly loves Toji. The story ends with Toji going with his heart, ending up with Makoto. The matters of the heart is always hard to say, no one is really able to take the full blame. Relationship is one complicated matters.
The show is good with it's solid cast. Definitely worth the time to watch. | Reviewed by woodstock on 13 December 2005 | 5. | Mixed results [Rating: 6/10] The concept is iffy at best - the stories of a group of 20-something employees at a department store's food court. Dohmoto Tsuyoshi is perhaps fatally understated in his role a new employee learning the ropes; Rina Uchiyama is an elevator girl who likes her relationship with Tsuyoshi, but is concerned about an energetic new manager in the food section (Ryoko Hirusue) - who may not quite be over her boyfriend quite yet.
Interest varies according to situation. Scenes at home are uniformly dull, and the same criticism can be made of scenes at a ballroom dance studio. Tsuyoshi has all the charisma of a clod of earth, though Uchiyama shows more depth than some of her other roles to show herself as a vulnerable woman uncertain of her personal and professional role. Predictably, the drama's highlights come from uber-talented Ryoko Hirosue; she's masterful with drama and light-comedy, expressing all sorts of emotion without saying a word.
On the other hand, Tsuyoshi is better suited for comedic roles, and minor ones at that; he's certainly not a leading man. Uchiyama has always had to fight being seen as just another pretty face in middling dramas, but Moto Kare suggests that, in better roles, she has real talent; Hirosue is commanding in every scene. On the other hand, the budding romance between a 30ish dumpling maker and a 20-something school teacher (Amano Hiroyuki, Yoshie Ichige) was awkward and riddled with chiches.
I found myself fast-forwarding over the less interesting sections, paying closer attention to the portions with Hirosue. Finally, I realized that the entire drama was unsurprising, and written with the kind of predictability that hurts its earnest ambition to be "mature". For a more "adult" drama, the action is surprisingly limp and unoriginal. I suppose it comes down to chemistry; Moto Kare comes closer to a slower-paced character study than it should, and the chemistry between the characters is lost in the process. | Reviewed by jdoramadotcom on 4 June 2011 | 6. | Blah Drama [Rating: 6/10] This is such a blah drama. I thought I would enjoy it more than I actually did because the two leads, Dohmoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko, were the two leads in Summer Snow, which is an amazing drama. Because of their chemistry in Summer Snow, I thought it would easy to cheer them on in Moto Kare, but this didnft happen. Instead, I ended up despising Ryokoi-chanfs character and getting frustrated with Tsuyoshi-kunfs. Of course, this is all based on my own preferences. I found it really hard to sympathize with Makoto (Ryokofs character). She was vindictive in the way she wedged herself between Touji (Tsuyoshi) and Nao (Uchiyama Rina). Nao was an unsuspecting victim through and through. If she had had the slightest flaw, than perhaps it would have been easier to find Makoto agreeable. Instead, Nao was very sweet, very trusting, had a sob story as her history, and was played by Uchiyama Rina, who is incredibly cute. With such a sweet person as Toujifs girlfriend, I found it really hard to respect Makoto, or to sympathize with Toujifs feelings for her. Touji frustrated me to no end. I found him really selfish and a coward. Of course, near the end of the drama, Makoto is wronged by her work people, but by this time it was too late. It was impossible for me to change my views on the character. Even though I can understand where the two lovers were coming from, and even though I love dramas where the characters follow their hearts, I think this drama was lame and failed at succeeding in this respect.
Mind you, Tsuyoshi and Ryoko ACTED very well, it was just their characters that sucked. Sonimfs (Hiroefs) side story with Amano Hiroyuki was much better than the actual main plot. This side story, combined with all the lovely shots of food in this drama, were the only things that kept me watching. | Reviewed by Wynter on 26 December 2006 | 7. | Just, so-so [Rating: 6/10] I'm kinda mixed about Moto Kare. There are just so many good things and bad things about this drama.
To start off, I don't think the ending was as bad as some people said. Some of the remarks about the ending seem to be more out of jealousy and immaturity. However, I do think the end result of the love triangle was a little rushed and slapped together.
How the characters were written just didn't sit too well with me. Particularly Hirosue Ryoko's character, Manoko. With her smart mouth and the way she tries to force her way through between Toji and Nao I didn't really care for her. I can sympathize for her emotions because of how she was treated at work and Ryoko's good acting, but the character herself I didn't really care much about. I felt this was Dohmoto Tsuyoshi's worst performance. The role with such a flaky character didn't really suit him at all and at times he seemed bored with his role. His character I thought was alright, but his flaky character isn't as well done Takki's character on SOS or Yamapi's on Buzzer Beat. Uchiyama Rina was wonderful in this drama. Superb acting, and she played one of the more likable characters in this drama.
I liked some of the side characters. I liked Sonim's character. The subplot involving her was alright. It wasn't that great but it kept me going.
The real saving grace for me along with Uchiyama Rina was the soundtrack. Hakky Candy I feel is the Kinki Kids' best song, and I also liked a couple of the other songs in this series such as "Tekko's theme." Overall, I think this drama is just ok. Not my favorite and I probably wouldn't care much for watching it again, but not the worst. | Reviewed by mrsmith10 on 11 February 2011 | 8. | excellent [Rating: 10/10] loved tsuyoshi's performence!
Unlike some of the previous posts, I didn't find Tsuyoshi's character wussy at all. Neither did I find Mokoto's character development abrupt. Success tends to bring down one's humility and it seems that it's the differences in maturities that brought Toji and Makoto apart in the first place: she had a goal in life and was working her way up, but Toji hasn't reached that stage of his life yet. Once Makoto experienced some set-backs, and Toji had some success, they stand on a more equal footing in terms of maturity. In addition to the fondness they had for each other, it seems only nature that they would get back together.
As to the Nao character. She said so herself in one of the episodes that she envied that Makoto had found the calling of her life while she was still wondering about hers. Perhaps one of the aims of the drama is to show how compatibilities in life experiences is as important as love in a relationship, so the focus was naturally on the two leads, and Uchiyama's character was only there for the ride, which might explain why her character was never quite as developed.
Overall I find this drama quite enjoyable. There is not too much unrealistic moments that we so often see in romantic dramas (eg guy runs after upset girl no matter what the situation), I find it refreshing in that respect. | Reviewed by icpmat on 6 March 2005 | 9. | Ridiculous... [Rating: 6/10] So far, after watching 7 episodes, I can only give it 6 stars. 5 stars for great acting by Tsuyoshi, Rina & Sonim. I never like Rina before watching this drama, but after watching, I find Rina's acting very natural and good. And add 1 more star for the great theme song "Hakka Candy" by Kinki Kids & the insertion song "Teko's Theme" (sung by Nita Whitaker, Lyrics by Mariya Takeuchi & arranged by David Foster). But if the ending is Toji (Tsuyoshi) with Nao (Rina), I will add 4 more stars to give it a 10. If the ending is Toji with Makoto (Hirosue), I will minus 5 stars to give it a 1 cause I cannot accept the fact that this woman dumped the guy 2 years ago and said very mean things to him 2 years later when they met again, but after seeing he has a cute girlfriend, she gets all jealous and wanted to snatch him back.
Since this drama started showing in Japan, there are 2 gangs in Japan - Makoto supporters & Nao supportors. I could not believe there were actually people supporting Makoto or even feel pity for her. A message to Makoto supporters, "God bless you with your present girlfriend/boyfriend. And if they dumped you to go back to their ex, blame it on yourself. And to those who would like to snatch your ex back, do not worry, go ahead as you have the support from Makoto's supporters. | Reviewed by pearl on 18 August 2003 | 10. | It really isn't too bad at all [Rating: 7/10] my few cents worth..
i personally feel that hirosue ryoko has made some slight breakthroughs in this drama... in the first few episodes, i felt like her characer, makoto, was a complete bitch... saying things to cause nao (rina's character) to become emotionally stressed, etc etc... basically being nasty... in such a light where she is portrayed as a strong and somewhat arrogant young lady and those later episodes where we see her true feelings towards her ex-bf and of course, her regrets and remorse (remember the part when the both of them were waiting for the train in the evening after she poured out her feelings him, she quoted the phase 'how true it is when people say that one will only learn to treasure something after it is lost') the audience is brought to a different level in makoto-- her softer, lonelier side as opposed to her stronger and more confident self earlier on...
this drama isn't the best to watch if your are looking for sensibility in a 3-sided relationship... even the ending seems just too unfair and 'unjust'... but i can't help but change my feelings for makoto from hate to pity... hirosue has done well in crafting her character's personality... there are defintely alot more to cirticize but this drama is worth your time... | Reviewed by Billy Wong on 10 June 2004 | 11. | A not so dramatic drama...so? [Rating: 9/10] Motokare is great and has its share of popularity not because it's dramatic but realistic. Makoto play mind games just like girls in REAL LIFe do. Like near the end Toji is torn between the one he truly likes but is moving away (Makoto), and the one he kindda likes but is right there (Nao), just like guys in REAL LIFE do. I'll have to say that this situation is TOO realistic, from experiences. The only unrealistic part is the ending because YEAH if it's real life, chances are the guy will choose Nao because guys are weak. =P
I got nothing against other people's poor review on this drama, because after all, it's a drama and is meant to be dramatic. It does have its unrealistic moments, but I don't think they interfere with the main point all that much. I'd recommend Motokare only if you are not looking for a dramatic story full of original surprises and only-in-drama moments, but rather something that you can relate to, or something that even happened to you or around you. It is at times so painfully true to the point that you'd rather change the channel to seek other mind-pleasing tv poisons. Motokare is not the best nor the most realistic drama ever, but I love it. i guess why he chose makoto over nao is simply because.. makoto is the love of his life and so is toji for makoto. nao is just so pushy.. asking toji to be with her even when toji is not willing. so when he ended up with makoto in the end i was pretty satisfied, i think toji and makoto are so 'comfortable' with each other.. and so i would give this drama a 9. i would give it a 10.. it's just that for me it ended abit 'abruptly' .. but then again, it's just my opinion guys :) | Reviewed by sadako-sempai on 26 November 2003 | 13. | Good Actresses!! When unexpected things happen, there's nothing one can do except learning how to deal with them; that's what Touji, Makoto, and Nao have been coping with throughout the dorama.
I gave Moto Kare an 8 also because of the acting. I think they all did a very good job depicting the characters; I can tell that Toji is a VERY indecisive, but at the same time, very gentle; Makoto is a hard-working woman that is obviously still in love with Toji after the breakup; and Rina plays a lovely woman that is passionately in love with Toji. The reason I watched it? ..OMG blame me..I just want to know what's so great abt it since it has created a big fuss..It's such a big let down. | Reviewed by Akakage on 20 February 2004 | 21. | Ermm Ex boyfriend [Rating: 8/10] i like the way the person who commented on how bad this movie was. the one with the rating 1?? well.. i have to thank him/her for making me interested to watch it for myself.. and i find it a very good show..
nice soundtrack... great looking chicks...
the draw back... yes.. the indecisive asshole.. how can any girl fall for him?? i mean, how?? and moreover, the ex gf who wants him back?? as a man.. make decisions!!! dun drag and drag...
maybe it's the pissing off indecisive part that makes it interesting... :) watch it.. at least for ryoko... :)

However, I can't believe that everyone disses poor Kyoko Fukada for only having one facial expression and then praises that kinki kid  Dohmoto Tsuyoshi. He's only got one duh expression thoughout every episode I've seen so far. That and he has that horrible facial hair. Didn't anyone think of having him shave? Gawd!!!
Nonetheless, it has been enjoyable so far. I can't help but wonder what these stars think about when they play these roles. Manager in a grocery section of a departo or elevator attendant? [Rating: 8/10] After watching a lot of "cr@p" shows out there this one is not that bad. Almost all Jdramas and Japanese shows go according to routine themes and this one does again but its kind of fun if you like the actors. I like the Kinki Kid actor and Ryoko Hirosue seems to look a lot better grown up. The main character is a typical Japanese guy who's pretty stupid, we just want him to make up his mind, but he's playing that role. The elevator girl just isn't his type and he's too dense to avoid being manipulated but it plays into the show. Of course it ends happily. | Reviewed by moku999 on 11 November 2003 | 24. | Lack of Creative Story [Rating: 3/10] This drama has an attractive cast. The majority of the acting is good. The characters are pretty well defined. I love hirose's acting. She draws you into her character, which is probably the best part of the drama. However, there is no creative story that draws you into the drama. There is no special plot. There is no excitement nor much comedy. The drama skips form one long winded conversation to the next with not much really happening.
This isnt the worst drama that I have seen. The characters are there. They just need something to do. | Reviewed by Kuyei on 23 June 2006 | 25. | Great Show! But as for me, some part of this story are quite meaningful. Don't you think so? Anyway it just a show. And I think it is very unfair to comment bad because the script writer really make effort to produce good show. I still don't know where I stand in my opinion of it. It doesn't have a very deep story, a quite frankly way too annoying/possessive girlfriend, and a developpement of the story that sort of drags. | 1. | Comments by Kitsuchi [Rating: 2/10] I don't know where to begin with this dorama.. Just to straightforward; I didn't like this dorama at all.
Tsuyoshi REALLY irritated me in this dorama. I've seen him in Summer Snow and I remember that he acted really good there, so I wanted to check this one out because he is one of the maincharacters here. But I don't know anymore if I do like him, because he pissed me off after watching this dorama. He was so dumb in this dorama and NEVER said anything worthy. He barely said much at all during the whole series. That pissed me off while the others kept on talking and he was just standing there like whatever, staring and didn't say a word..
About Ryoko and Rina.. Obviously I'm voting more for Rina. Ryoko always came in between and shaked their relationship to the end. Because she was acting selfishly. All the time she said that she didn't wanted to interfere between them and such, but how come she always talked to Tsuyoshi anyway?
Rina was the best actress together with Sonim. Their acting were good and natural..
Anyway, I actually didn't enjoyed this dorama at all. It was irritating, especially about Tsyoshi. I forced myself to watch it because I wanted to know about how they would end. But there are people who do enjoy this kind of dorama I guess, so you should see by yourself what you think about it. It's not bad watching a bad dorama once in a while either..
I give this dorama a 5 because of the irritating casts.. If the cast were other persons, this story could have been interesting. | 2. | Comments by pandaguitarist [Rating: 7/10] although controversial among many dorama critics, i feel that this drama deserved an 7. i definitely enjoyed the great acting done by each actor, and i saw reality in this series. the ending might not have pleased everyone, but i am satisfied because that's what happens in real life. all in all, the songs "hakka candy" and "tsunami" fully expressed the mood of motokare.

Review:
I think this is a very deep dorama. Many people watch doramas for fun and want the storyline to progress "their way", but Moto Kare proves how life is actually like in reality. When unexpected things happen, there's nothing one can do expect learning how to deal with them; that's what Touji, Makoto, and Nao have been coping with throughout the dorama.
I gave Moto Kare an 7 also because of the acting. They're all unique and, at times, selfish. As a plus, the music is great. "Tsunami" fits the flashback perfectly, as well as the ever-addicting song "Hakka Candy" and the other insert song. | 3. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 7/10] I wouldn't recommend this drama to people who expect to see some of the same kind of chemistry between Dohmoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko in "Summer Snow". In this series, the chemistry was definitely there and it was nice to see the two of them in a drama together again, but because of the back and forth manners in how they dealt with their feelings towards one another, a lot of the anticipation seemed to just go away by the end.
However, besides the slow pace at which the drama proceeded Dohmoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko should still be commended for their acting skills and how they were able to subtley portray some of the regrets and longings that they have towards one another in their past relationship. Aside from the main story, I also found that the side romance was very interesting, maybe at times even more interesting than the romance between Touji, Makoto, and Nao.
I would still give this drama a watch just because we see Dohmoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko united once again. Also Uchiyama Rina does an excellent job. | 4. | Comments by 4julls [Rating: 8/10] well .. its not my best drama ever watched or something, but to said its a story between and "A" and "S" like one said over it, i dont so.
all knows ... for man its hard for having relationship if theres no love in between, coz man hard to learn to love, its kind of different with woman, we can try to love our couple.
so the fact toji choose makoto over nao its simply he didnt want having realtionship on lied, and thats what nao felt when toji still around her after 'the accident'.
over and all, its nice dorama with nice song, its kind of dorama you can watch and you dont have to think, just enjoy it.
i just know since my first heart break, that if you wanna be happy, you gotta be 'selfish'
so its right for makoto being selfish, and also toji
because they wanna be happy. | 5. | Comments by Susan [Rating: 9/10] This was my first Dohmoto Tsuyoshi drama. He has had such rave reviews, and Moto Kare seemed interesting enough, so I checked it out. To be honest, after the first couple of episodes, I found it a bit dull. But it picked up a bit in later episodes, and I found myself rooting, "Ganbatte!" for Touji (Dohmoto) near the end! I am glad I decided to watch this drama all the way through. I have really good memories of watching it, and I will definetly watch it again. And now I have to admit that I am a bit of a Domoto Tsuyoshi fan, due to this series, and the variety shows he hosts, "Domoto Kyoudai" and "Domoto Tsuyoshi no Shoujiki Shindoi." Tsuyoshi-kun is so funny, and not a half bad actor and singer either! | 6. | Comments by curian4 [Rating: 7/10] A lot of people are still talking about Moto Kare so I have decided to give this drama a shot. Well, the first few episodes was a bit draggy for me and i really hated Ryoko because she was avery mean person but later in the drama, her true emotions showed and i felt for her because it is such a pain to see the person she love going out with another girl.
Rina-san was trying so hard to love Toji but in the end, she did the right decision to dump him because he is so indesicive but I think she is so pitiful because she is only a replacement. I dont really like the ending because they just simply made the ending. I recommend this drama for those who like Ryoko, Rina and

Ryoko is superb here. But I think the best part of the show surprisingly is Sonim, she has totally amazed me. Great actress. Domoto is a good actor, but his character is really annoying in his indecision, especially in the end. As for Uchiyama, she's kinda annoying too and they doesn't match each other with Domoto at all. Overall a good show with a good ending and kinda slow second half. I was only a little dissapointed that there are not love scenes between Domoto and Ryoko. The theme song is great. | 10. | Comments by Deceased [Rating: 8/10] A love triangle dorama. Great acting from Hirosue Ryoko. You can see her acting improved alot in this dorama. Quite a realistic love story that happens to us sometimes.
Feels kinda sad for Uchiyama Rina, done so much for Dohmoto Tsuyoshi but still, a sad ending for her.
This show kinda sending a message to those frickle-minded and undecisive people. Be more truthful whom you love.
Besides the great plot, you will definitely enjoy the theme song too. | 11. | Comments by xploring [Rating: 8/10] There was nothing special about it in hindsight, except the acting performances of the two leads, but while I was watching, I had a hard time to stop watching. Probably would have finished it in two days if I had time. Hirosue Ryoko was really good in this I thought, but the story was fairly flat and both Domoto Tsuyoshi's and Uchiyama Rina's characters were rather weak and uninspiring. Glad it was a happy ending though (for me anyway). I enjoyed it. | 12. | Comments by moonchyld [Rating: 8/10] Nothing too exciting or new though, but an overall ok watch. I don't understand why some people feel that Hirosue changed her character in the middle of the drama, I felt that there were definite hints at the start about what was going to happen. One lesson I learned from this drama is to never ask your bf if he still loves his ex AND tell him that his ex still loves him. It's like awakening an almost dead fire. Not the smartest thing to do. lol~ | 13. | Comments by jdfan [Rating: 8/10] This is an old fashion love triangle dorama! The story is a little predictable but it is a nice break from your theme related dorama. (i.e. Doctors, pilot, swimming team etc.) Hirosue Ryoko is one of my favorite actresses and she shines in this one. Ryoko and Uchiyama Rin looks more mutured in this show and they looks more like leading ladies now, especially Hirosue Ryoko!! Domoto Tsuyosh's acting has also improved too. I enjoyed this one. | 14. | Comments by popdod [Rating: 7/10] A love triangle dorama. Great acting from Hirosue Ryoko. You can see her acting improved alot in this dorama. While I still think Summer Snow was one of the best dramas I have seen, it was refreshing to see them somewhat paired up again. What would you do if you met "the one that got away" a few years later? How do you explain it to your current girlfriend, to whom you have already pledged your devotion? This plot follows such a path. | 17. | Comments by G-Pjube [Rating: 8/10] I tend to like side characters more then the main characters. Also, in this drama, the same happend. I found the story between Chitose and Hiroe more interesting then the whole triangle affair with Touji, Makoto and Nao. I think it's because Makoto only tried to steal Touji and I would rather see him getting happy with Nao. Well, it was still an interesting story and I liked all the food stuff. It made me really hungry. =P | 18. | Comments by Oba-chan [Rating: 7/10] Good drama, this is the first time i watch tsuyoshi acting, good but not sugoi, rina (Kawai) and ryoko (Beautiful) both have they own charm. Plus Sonim are playing well too. Worth to watch.
(SPOILER!!!) i think miss pearl really mad because tsuyoshi choose ryoko than rina..hahahaa, really childish, i think we must respect touji for choose his own way (SPOILER END)
Soundtrack: Hakka Candy [Kinki Kids]: 10 | 19. | Comments by KAZdoramma [Rating: 7/10] Ok in my opinion, no where as good as Summer Snow which is the previous dorama in which Doumoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko teamed up in. Hirosue`s acting was brilliant as ever but Doumoto`s wasn`t as good but still acceptable! But Uchiyama Rina was no good for me,,she cant act!! I dont care if she`s cute (i dont think she is) but I felt it was her that ruined the possible potential of this dorama. | 20. | Comments by UsopSama [Rating: 5/10] This is another love triangle series. Toji is a department store manager who is fairly happy with his girlfriend. But things starts to change as his ex-girlfriend suddenly shows up into his life. The first couple of episodes is really warm hearted but things turn melodramatic around midway into the series. I find the ex-girlfriend to be a major bitch as she screws up everything for Toji. | 21. | Comments by farah_is_me [Rating: 7/10] I watched it bcoz Tsuyoshi...I knew him thru his drama Gakkou no Sensei. He's soooo cute and also Ryoko is soooo cute tooo. well....the story seems to be not sooo romantically slooww... which I hate slow love story. Well...I knew quite well how the story would end according to its title...but I just wanted to know how...and it ends not so great...a tienee-wienee bit of frustation!!! | 22. | Comments by kneehard [Rating: 6/10] The drama is enjoyable although I personally hate the ending. Many women would probably be on Team Nao, because we know oh so many biatches out there trying to get their filthy paws on our men. Hehehe
But the side story between Hiroe and Chitose was riveting too. I rooted for Yuuji though. A standing ovation for Sonim, who always gives an extraordinary performance in her roles. | 23. | Comments by Nermal [Rating: 6/10] This is one of those that after I finish it.. I still don't know where I stand in my opinion of it. It doesn't have a very deep story, a quite frankly way too annoying/possessive girlfriend, and a developpement of the story that sort of drags. A do salute the great cast of Domoto Tsuyoshi, Uchiyama Rina and Hiroko Hirosue.. but.. for some reason this won't go into my favorites.. | 24. | Comments by Qky [Rating: 5/10] The storyline sucks!!! and terrible ending (so obvious but doesn't make sense).. the only thing im glad about from watching this drama is i get to know Rina Uchiyama. She is very cute in this drama! nice acting too!! well, ofcourse the main reason i wanted to watch this drama is because of Ryoko, but after i saw Rina-chan... i just fell in love with her at the first sight.. | 25. | Comments by michiru3 [Rating: ?/10] ep 1 is good so far, still can't really see how the story's gonna be yet. Dohmoto Tsuyoshi's chara isn't as likeable as he was in Summer Snow, but perhaps he'll develop more as the series goes on. Once again, Uchiyama Rina plays a genki (on the edge of annoyance) but cute girl head over heels in love w/ a guy who doesn't really return her feelings. | 26. | Comments by Hide/Takky [Rating: 8/10] yaikksss... like Moto Kare but didnt like the ending. somehow i just could not see Hirosue Ryoko playing the bad girl coz shes just so soft spoken and when she yells/screams.... its just too high pitched and makes it the more annoying. n i didnt really like the ending though..... although i was satisfied coz im not the biggest fan of uchiyama rina! | 27. | Comments by night-kids [Rating: 10/10] One of the best dramas I've ever watched, Ryoko Hirosue plays her role very well. At first I was afraid that she will be the supporting actress only, instead of Rina. But the happy ending at the end, the happy scene can be longer, as my suggestion, we can show their life after that, make us feel happier after watching the drama. | 28. | Comments by kwokinator88 [Rating: 10/10] Gotta Love This Drama, Great Story, Love seeing Hirosue + Tsuyoshi together =) People may not like this story because they are frustrated to see the guy choosing his old girlfriend over the new one, but face it, it's realistic! The frustration is what the writer wants, he wants to pull you into the story =) | 29. | Comments by williu [Rating: 9/10] A great drama! The main actors from Summer Snow are here, with the addition of the wonderful Uchiyama Rina. Great acting by literally everyone, and the storyline is superb - you grow along with the characters and get to know them in a way that not many other dramas do. Excellent drama from start to finish! | 30. | Comments by Mada [Rating: 2/10] Pretty slow paced drama, but in a bad way! the relationships are so naive and you end up just wanting to beaut up the indecisive, stupid characters!! (>_>;;) Plus the theme song in english is really really bad and got on my nerves! xD If you really have NOTHING better to do, watch this drama... ;p |

1. | takezo predictable storyline but a refreshing approach, some may vehemently disagree, to the hackeneyed love triangle. hirosue was surprisingly good in this but the cake goes to doomoto in his totally compelling performance as the guy caught between his first true love who, as she tells it, may've inadvertently ended their relationship due to pride and the demure elevator girl truly in love with him. what to do...what to do... | 2. | Susan My favorite, and I've watched it again and again! While this series seems slow and boring in the beginning, I couldn't help but become emotionally involved with the great and quirky characters. It's worth sticking with it in the beginning, for sure! It is beautifully acted, and both Domoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko shine in their respective roles. I definitely recommend that everyone check this series out. | 3. | kwokinator88 Gotta Love This Drama, Great Story, Love seeing Hirosue + Tsuyoshi together =) People may not like this story because they are frustrated to see the guy choosing his old girlfriend over the new one, but face it, it's realistic!
