14 sai no Haha [14歳の母] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) It was a bit different from what I expected and the focus seemed to be on trying to make the audience cry rather than the actual subject of a 14-year-old mother. The ending was good, but near the beginning (around episodes 2-5), the series was incredibly over-dramatic in a bad way. Miura Haruma always had a blank expression on his face and his character was completely useless and indecisive, doing whatever his mother told him to do. Shida Mirai is a good actress, but her character was annoyingly stubborn at times. | Aishiteru ~ Kaiyo [アイシテル ~ 海容] (Watched) | Akai Ito [赤い糸] (Watched) |
Akihabara@DEEP [アキハバラ@DEEP] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Fun and crazy. It was very manga-like, which I loved. The main characters were all very interesting and different. I love anime and manga myself, so it was fun looking in on the otaku world in Akihabara. | Asuko March! [アスコーマーチ!] (Watched) | Atami no Sousakan [熱海の捜査官] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) |
Attention Please [アテンションン プリース] (Watched) | Bara no nai Hanaya [薔薇のない花屋] (Watched) I don't know how I feel about Katori Shingo's acting. His voice was dull and monotonous and he would smile oddly at random moments. I don't know if that was just his character Eiji or actually him. Also, I hated Takeuchi Yuko's character. She was completely predictable. However, I did like the relationship between Eiji and his daughter. | Bloody Monday [ブラッディ・マンデイ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I didn't know what to expect at first, but it ended up being really good and entertaining, with lots of twists and a different storyline. Miura Haruma's acting seems to be getting better as well. The ending was left pretty open, so I'm hoping there's more. |
Bloody Monday Season 2 [ブラッディ・マンデイ-シーズン2-] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Brother Beat [ブラザー☆ビート] (Watched) | Byakkotai [白虎隊] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) It was a short series, but I enjoyed watching it and learning about the Byakkotai. Yamapi's stoic expressions came in handy, since he was a samurai going through such rough times. Tanaka Koki's role was also memorable. |
Byakuyakou [白夜行] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Don Quixote [ドン★キホーテ] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Fuma no Kojiro [風魔の小次郎] (Watched) |
Gokusen [ごくせん] (Watched) | Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2] (Watched) | GTO [麻辣教師] (Watched) |
Hachimitsu to Kuroba [ハチミツとクローバー] (Watched) | Hana Yori Dango [花より男子] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Im a sucker for shojo-type series, so I loved this show. Matsujun really stood out to me here; him and Inoue were great together. I couldnt stop watching it. | Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子] (Watched) |
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e [花ざかりの君たちへ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Ive read the manga before, so I was pretty excited to see a drama for it. It was one of the most funny, entertaining shows Ive come across. I loved the cast, both the major and minor characters. I dont think there was a minute I was bored during the whole show, haha. | Hidarime Tantei EYE [左目探偵EYE]
| Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) I bawled my eyes out every single episode. Even thinking back to it months later, I still get all teary eyed. This was one of the few dramas that actually had an impact on me; seeing Aya trying her best was really inspiring. |
Ikebukuro West Gate Park [池袋ウエストゲートパーク] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Innocent Love [イノセント・ラヴ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) This drama was incredibly unrealistic and a bit draggy at times. The characters were all either strange or just horrible, but at least it was still entertaining. | IS ~Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei~ [IS〜男でも女でもない性〜] (Watched) |
JIN [JIN-仁-] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | JIN Season 2 (Watched) | Joker Yurusarezaru Sosakan [ジョーカー 許されざる捜査官] (Watched) |
Juui Dolittle [獣医ドリトル]
| Jyoou no Kyoushitsu [女王の教室] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) I liked how this was different from all the other dramas about great teachers. Maya always said intelligent things that really made me think. The show started to drag on near the middle, and I honestly think it could have been a bit shorter. The fickle parents and useless principals were also a tad bit annoying. However, I did enjoy the ending. | Kaibutsu-kun [怪物くん] (Watched) |
Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) A few people are bashing it, but I guess its good to remember that this was originally a manga. Of course itll be unrealistic, just like most of the dramas Ive watched. A human pet seemed a bit odd at first, but after watching the drama I didnt think it was so crazy. Sumire and Momos relationship was so innocent and adorable. Momo was willing to throw away his pride to be with her. I think thats very touching~ | Kisarazu Cat's Eye [木更津キャッツアイ] (Watched) | Koishite Akuma [恋して悪魔] (Watched) |
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) | Kurosagi [クロサギ] (Watched) | Last Friends [ラスト・フレンズ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) The character development was a bit of a messE Nishikido succeeded in creeping me out and making me nervous whenever he was around, but his character seemed a lot deeper than they made him out to be. Michiru was absolutely horrible. To me, Eita's character was probably the only likable one. I give it a 7 because at least it was entertaining to watch. |
Liar Game [ライアーゲーム] (Watched) | LIAR GAME Season 2 [ライアーゲーム 2] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | LIFE [ライフ] (Watched) |
Long Love Letter [ロング・ラブレター〜漂流教室] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Love Shuffle [ラブシャッフル] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I was reluctant to watch it at first because it just sounded silly. Even during the first few episodes, I thought to myself, "this can't end well." However, I really enjoyed this show! It's not the typical romantic love story; it's full of interesting characters, ideas, and puns. | Magerarenai Onna [曲げられない女] (Watched) |
Majo Saiban [魔女裁判] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Dark, hopeless, and full of twists. I don't usually like court-type shows, but this one did not bore me at all. I'd say it's worth watching. | Maou [魔王] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) I adored Maou so much that it was hard waiting for it to be subbed every week. The storyline was pretty dark and interesting. Ikuta did well, like always, and I loved Ohno's subtle acting and the genius character he played. I liked all the minor characters too, like Soda and Kasai. Many parts of the drama were really intense and the ending was amazing. | Mei-chan no Shitsuji [メイちゃんの執事] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) |
Mother (Watched) | My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de [謎解きはディナーのあとで] (Watched) |
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) The first drama I ever watched, and Akira still remains one of my favorite characters. He was weird and hilarious, Shuji was cool, and Nobuta was adorable. It was kinda the clich popular guy takes a girl who gets bullied and makes her popular show, but it was a lot of fun to watch nonetheless. | Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I don't know much about music, but Nodame Cantabile was still a lot of fun to watch and some of the concert scenes were very beautiful. I'm glad they made a live action drama for it, because when I tried reading the manga I couldn't picture the music in my head. Nodame and Chiaki were both really unique characters and the cast was great. | Orthros no Inu [オルトロスの犬] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) |
Ouran High School Host Club [桜蘭高校ホスト部] (Watched) | Proposal Daisakusen [プロポーズ大作戦] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) I honestly don't know how I managed to get through this. I guess once I get halfway through a show, I have to continue watching it. First of all, the show was extremely repetitive and the relationship between the two main characters was just annoying. Yamapi's acting did not impress me at all; he looked like he didn't even want to be there. I think the relationship between Eri and Tsuru was more interesting than the main character's. | RHPlus [RHプラス] (Watched) |
rinbukyoku [輪舞曲] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) This show seemed very draggy at times, I just wanted to fast forward. The music started to annoy me after awhile because they kept playing the same few clips over and over. However, it was a good serious show and the actors/actresses did a great job. | Ryusei no Kizuna [流星の絆] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I thought it was kind of boring at first, although the scenes that were like a manga were pretty interesting. It starts to pick up near the middle/ending, but I didn't really like the ending at all. It seemed like a let down. | Seigi no Mikata [正義の味方] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) It was pretty different from the usual dramas I like, but it was still entertaining to watch. It was a bit repetitive at times; the episodes followed the same formula most of the time. The relationship between Yoko and Makiko was hilarious. Makiko made me laugh a lot, but I don't know how anyone could seriously stand to be around her. |
Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu [世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) I think this is the most over-rated show I've come across. I've heard so many great things about it, and yet when I watched it I was highly disappointed. It was dull and Matsumoto Sakutaro's character bothered the heck out of me. I think I actually read the manga Socrates in Love a long time ago and enjoyed it, but for some reason the drama didn't do much for me. | Shiroi Haru [白い春] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) This show just left me feeling sad, especially after the ending. The scenes between the father and daughter made me smile, but then it'd always be heart wrenching when thinking about it afterward. I like how there were the relationships on the side between Haruo and Shiori/Yuki. Yoshitaka Yuriko really stood out in the drama. | Shokuzai [贖罪] (Watched) |
Smile [スマイル] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) | Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi [空から降る一億の星] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) One of the few dramas I'll give a 10 to. I absolutely LOVED this show; the plot, the cast, the characters themselves. After each episode, I wanted to watch the next one right away. All of the characters grew over time, which made them interesting. The ending was incredibly sad but beautiful because I couldn't picture it ending any other way. | Stand UP!! Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I originally wanted to watch Stand Up!! just because Oguri Shun and Narimiya Hiroki were in it. But afterwards, I was glad I watched it because the four main character's journey was so fun. I haven't seen very many shows about a bunch of teen boys trying to get laid, haha. Usually the topic of sex is either nonexistent or very subtle in j-dramas, but here it was all out in the open. It made me laugh quite a bit. |
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Sunao ni Narenakute [素直になれなくて] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Taiyo no Kisetsu [太陽の季節] (Watched) |
The Quiz Show Season 2 [ザ・クイズショウ 2] (Watched) | Tokyo DOGS ~ Saiaku de Saiko no Partner [東京DOGS] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) | Triangle [トライアングル] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) This show was draggy at times and the cliffhangers at the end of each episode began to become ridiculous. I also thought that Goda Ryoji was a bit awkward at times, or maybe it was just the actor? Same with Akimoto. The parts with Sachi were way too cliche. One thing I liked was the ending twist, I wasn't really expecting it. |
Tumbling [タンブリング] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Uta no Onii-san [歌のおにいさん] (Watched) | Yamada Taro Monogatari [山田太郎ものがたり] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Nino's dorky character from Stand Up!! is forever embedded in my mind, so it was hard to picture him as a princely (but poor) character in this drama. But that doesn't mean he didn't do a good job of conveying his character. It was a light-hearted show that was fun to watch, but at times Nino's character annoyed me because all he thought about was his family every second of the day to the point where it became ridiculous in a way. |
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge [ヤマトナデシコ七変化] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) They completely changed the story and characters from one of my favorite manga series. Sunako and Kyohei were turned into big melodramatic babies. I did not really like this show at all. They used the same stories over and over (possessed by ghosts, save Sunako from trouble all the time), and the ending was completely predictable. | Yasha [夜叉] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I really liked the storyline of this drama; it wasnt like the shows I usually watch. It was exciting because it was so unpredictable and I had no clue how it would end. It got a bit slow at one point near the end, but it picked up right after that. Ito Hideaki did an amazing job as the twins, and I would often forget that he was the same person. | Yuukan kurabu [有閑倶楽部] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) A drama about a bunch of bored rich kids. I mostly watched it because of Taguchi. Some episodes were hilarious and others were really dull. I prefer dramas with a consistent storyline. The girl who eats a ton and Taguchi were funny, Seishiro and Noriko were just boring. |
Zeni Geba [銭ゲバ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Some parts were very strange and the music was a bit annoying, but I still liked watching it overall. Matsuyama Kenichi's acting always surprises me. | Zettai Kareshi [絶対彼氏] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) I enjoyed the manga, so I'm probably biased. I had fun watching this show. I liked how the setting was a bit different from the manga and the characters were older rather than high school students. Hayami Mokomichi did a great job being the sexy, robotic boyfriend and I liked the rest of the cast as well. | |
