Akimahende! [あきまへんで!]
| Attack No.1 [アタック No.1] (Watched) They really play v-ball | Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Boy this is one tragic week with this and summer snow. I need a happy one now. |
Bijo ka Yajuu [美女か野獣] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) An interesting drama about a news department and all of the behind the scenes stuff that happens to get a production out. Not much of a "love" drama but each of the characters gets featured to find their place. | BOSS Rating: 5/10 (Watched) I don't like the shakey camera zoom in and out technique in this drama. It's like the affect is suppose to be action? | CHANGE Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Political theme of Change is catchy. |
Dekichatta Kekkon [できちゃった結婚] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I have come to enjoy Ryoko's acting. She does a great job depicting her character's feelings and is a good cryer. I like how the main characters grow and learn about one another each episode and how mistakes and promises are made, broken, and cured. I was very happy that this one (as tragic j-dramas go) came together and did not end up a tragedy. All of the characters are quite funny and support the story. | Densha Otoko [電車男] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Ito-san really looks pretty in this one. Is this really based on a true story? Fun story. Can an Otaku win? | Dragon Zakura [ドラゴン桜] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) The challenge of entering college exams is really expressed in this teacher student drama. It shows the emphasis that J-students do in high school to gain access to college as what school you go to seems to determine what job you get and your income. This drama is very different from GTO and Gokusen. |
Egao no Hosoku [笑顔の法則] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Yoko is such a pretty actress. I can't stand it when nobody getts together here. | Engine [エンジン] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) Just OK. | First Kiss [ファースト・キス] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Had to follow Mao to this drama. |
Food fight [フードファイト] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) Sort of a silly storyline. | Friends [フレンズ] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) I did not know it was only 4 episodes. Short but it told a lot about cross cultural relationships and even touched subjects of Koreans living in Japan, limited movement for Korean male citizens, economic differences, military service requirements, and cultural differences. Nice preformance by both actors and that girl is just too cute. Nice story. | Friends Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Nice story about cross cultural relationships. |
Galileo [ガリレオ] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Sort of like a Trick with a scientist and a cop. | Gokusen [ごくせん] (Watched) I've only watched the special where they graduate. It does remind me of a GTO but I do want to see the series now that I saw the special. That Yuki Nakama is one cute actress, very pretty. | Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Yakuza and school. |
Gokusen Season 3 [ごくせん 3]
| Golden Bowl [ゴールデンボウル] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) Of all things, finding companionship in a bowling alley. | Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Nice show! Kou Shibasaki did an excellent job with her stuborn character. Right when she breaks into a smile she sure is cute. And what is Kimura's neighbor about? I can see why this one is popular. |
GTO [麻辣教師] Rating: 8/10 A good one but I did not like the non-conclusion. A little predictable with each week winning over a student. | H2~Kimi to itahibi [2〜君といた日々] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Play Ball - nice story built around baseball, friendships, hardships, and young love. Can't wait to finish it to see the duels. | Hana Yori Dango [花より男子] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Heroin characters are great aren't they! Mao-chan is a rising starlet. I enjoyed the story and how strong she was. This has to be one of the best in the youth movement dramas. |
Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Mao and the boyz continues .... I enjoyed the story. | Haruka 17 [はるか 17] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Nice story of what it takes to be an idol type. | Hero Rating: 8/10 (Watched) He rolls into town and with some unorthodox methods and some leg work does his duty as a prosecutor. Good series, I enjoyed the interplay between the characters. And at the end, who can top Hikaru's "Can you Keep a Secret?" |
Hito ni Yasashiku [人にやさしく / 3ピース]
| Hitotsu yane no shita 1 [ひとつ屋根の下 1]
can't seem to watch this one. | Home & Away [ホーム&アウェイ] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) The adventure was good each episode till the end. Fun! The ending was a little strange and not very satisfying compared to the rest of the adventure but was a nice story of Kaede needing to resolve past issues by meeting people on the road and finding her true self. |
Hotaru no Hikari [ホタルノヒカリ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) I saw it coming. | Hotman [ホットマン]
| Hyakunen no monogatari [百年の物語] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) What a nice story with a historical context. The struggles of Japanese women over the last century are many with the constant being relationships and love.
Nanako Matsushima is hands down the best actress around and she gives the most for the 3 roles. Nice series. |
Ima Ai ni Yukimasu [いま会いにゆきます] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I saw the movie first and like it better. The drama follows the story line and intorduces a few more characters and has more time to explore parts of the movie but it seems a bit slow. Overall the story is still very good. | Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ]
| Karei naru Ichizoku [華麗なる一族] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Tough story. Hated the ending. |
Koi ga shitai Koi ga shitai Koi ga shitai [恋がしたい恋がしたい] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) A little twist on the J-drama story line. Strangers once tied to a beef bowl restaurant begin to have a relationship. Each one has it's own story and love relationship but it takes till the end to start. | Koi ni Ochitara ~Boku no Seikou no Himitsu~ [恋におちたら〜僕の成功の秘密〜]
| Koibumi [恋文~私たちが愛した男] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) What an odd situation and setup this was. Very testing relationships. |
Konna koi no hanashi [こんな恋のはなし]
| Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003] (Watched) | Kuitan [喰いタン] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) Food series with a silly detective. |
Last Christmas [ラストクリスマス] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) It reminds me of the classic tokyo love story without Suzuki Honami. I like watching Akiko Yada again! | Last Friends [ラスト・フレンズ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Like the cast but the story line is way different from many I have enjoyed. | Long vacation [ロングバケーション] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Wow! I waited for each episode till the end. This is definitely one of my favorites. The actors are great. A love story with bumps but comes together. Yamaguchi is one pretty woman and her spirit in the movie is great. Now that I have the entire set I can watch it again from begining to end. Do watch this one too! |
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) This one really explores the relationships between men and women. To trust and believe when the eyes tell you something else. Some of the situations are classic in a relationship between couples and the story was told well. Love seems to win most of the time. | MR. BRAIN
| Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) Seemed a little flaky and over acted. |
My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Good classroom story but so so yakuza characters. A reach for a story line but still entertaining and touching. | My Little Chef Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Akiko Yada is one of my favorite actresses and mixed with food ala iron chef how can it be bad? You can't beat the food and the stories it brings. Nice series, I enjoyed it! Aya and Hiroshi Abe were good too! | News no onna [ニュースの女] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I've been waiting for Suzuki Honami as I thought she was great in Tokyo Love story. The series starts off as tragic as can be and grows. Good series worth a watch. |
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Can they all really change? Youth grows up. Nice story but I can't stand the abuse. Makes you wonder if there is that much bullying in J-schools. Best EP was the one with the hanuted house. | Orange Days [オレンジデイズ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) This is top 10 material. Shibasaki Kou is great and I could see why sign became popular. I really like her serious look and when she breaks into a smile, wow! Very different from battle royale. | Oyaji~ [オヤジぃ]
|
Pride [プライド] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Typical Kimura good series. Yuko is one cute woman. | Proposal Daisakusen [プロポーズ大作戦] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) This is a good story. You just want to tell kenzo to just say it but of course he can't. | Regatta [レガッタ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) A crew movie with some of the usual hangups and triangles. |
ROOKIES [ルーキーズ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) delinquents + sensei = just ok baseball story | Ruri no shima [瑠璃の島] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) City bad girl saves a small island community. | Sapuri [サプリ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) A very pretty Misaki in this. |
Satomi Hakenden [里見八犬伝] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) I believe this is an old tale being retold. I remember seeing a movie series years ago with these marbles and dogs so this was like dejavu to find this one and relive the story again. I really enjoyed it. | Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu [世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) I saw the movie and then wanted to see the drama. The movie moves fast where the drama fill in the gaps and adds story line. This is a very nice drama and one of the best stories I've seen. | Shin Hoshi no kinka [新・星の金貨] Rating: 4/10 (Watched) It took me a while to get through this one. Some of the early story line seemed too forced and lost my interest. It also jumps around a lot between the characters. The characters seem a little young in mind. I did follow through and see the end which was just OK. |
Shomuni [ショムニ]
| Stand UP!! Rating: 7/10 (Watched) A bunch of horny teens find out there's more to just doing it. | Star no Koi [スタアの恋] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Nice story for the little guy! Norika sure looks like the movie star and she sure is a cute one. I'll have to look for more from her. It's fun and worth a watch. Seems to be a common theme in not being able to confess ones love. |
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) ......if he could only express himself.
This seems to be a very common theme in younger j-drama characters. It was a little slow but still good enough to finish it. | Summer snow Rating: 9/10 (Watched) After seeing this one I'm a Ryoko fan. I just don't understand why Japanese shows are so darn tragic. Really caught me by surprise as I was looking forward to a nice ending. How can I go on. | Taiho shichauzo [逮捕しちゃうぞ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Weak on the action but a fun one to watch as the two partners seem to get into so much trouble each week. |
Tokyo Friends [東京フレンズ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Tokyo Love Story [東京ラブストーリー] Rating: 10/10 A real classic. I'm told that this one started it all. I did not believe it's so old and that Suzuki-san is sooo good in it. I love her energy and drive she puts forth in her character. One not to be missed. Great series! | Trick [トリック] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) "Flat chested woman". I can't believe that was in the script. Funny pair. |
Trick Season 2 [トリック2] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) It continues. | Trick Season 3 [トリック3]
Just more of the same characters but still worth watching if you like mysteries to be solved. | Virgin Road [バージンロード] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) The ups and downs of a want to be single mother who falls for a stand in fiance made this one so compelling to watch. It was on the verge of being a weekly tragedy but each problem leads to maturing of the daughter. I'll look for more dramas with Wakui Emi as she does an excelent job of expressing the emotions of her character. I enjoyed this one. |
Water Boys [ウォーターボーイズ] (Watched) | Wedding Planner [ウエディングプランナー] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) These folks deal with personal touches. I enjoyed the detail of wedding planning and the 1st episode was great with the field of yellow flowers. | Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) one of my first dramas and still the best one so far |
