Suzuki Honami triumphs again, this time playing the independent and goal-driven Aso-san, the anchor of Channel 2 News. The series starts off with a bang, the tragic death of her husband and his ex-wife the day after their marriage and all of a sudden she has to deal with taking care of her husband's fifteen year old son, Ryu, played by Takizawa Hideaki.
The feelings and emotions portrayed by Suzuki Honami were sincere and more realistic, being a single person and being such a career-oriented woman, she didn't want to take the boy in and was rather vociferous about it, too. Takizawa Hideaki in the meantime was a bit of a loner and often grated on Aso's nerves. However, as the series progresses, their relationship blossoms and the audience can really sense a change between them. It just seemed very natural and not forced like some other dramas that I've seen. Like some other reviewer, I also felt that Ryu had some sort of feelings for Aso. They just had great chemistry together! (Maybe that's one of the reasons why Takky was later cast in "Majo no Jouken")
The side characters really helped contribute to the overall plot and feeling of the drama. The lawyer (the perfect man) often added comic relief to the serious moments. The scheming Fujiwara Norika made a great antagonist and it was understandable since she also wanted to become an anchor. Konno's character was also wonderfully executed, it was hard to make out the man's feelings and motives with his one expression face.
I've only seen one another news drama, "Bijo ka Yajuu", and I thought that this one surpassed that one by far. Once again Honami Suzuki prooves that she's a brilliant actress. She played her character very well. Plus, there's this Mr. Cool Hideaki Takizawa and Nagatsuka Kyozo who brings life to his character. I wonder how Kyozo could act to naturally and so funny. He was the one who add some humor to this dorama and made it even more interesting. The story is great and well-packed. Sometimes it was so sweet, touching and lovely, yet sometimes it is so funny! It made me understand everything behind the newsmaking and each episode also gave us some lessons in life. All the actors and actresses there gave freshy feelings to everyone who watch it. I found myself so anxious about Ryu's feelings towards Tamaki and it was so sweet when he tried to show her with his attitude. Ryu never talked much, but his action explained everything. To tell you the truth, this dorama was one of my reasons for living. I couldn't live without it. News no Onna is one of my favorite doramas now. I watched NEWS WOMAN from beginning to end TWICE non-stop. I am planning to watch it again tonight. IT IS GREAT. As I have said, the Japanese characteristic is going to extremes. They work hard, ambitious and have little respect to life, etc. But I would quote a sentence from the drama: "I respect you Tamaki." I respect those who devote to realizing their life dreams. This drama is so encouraging and all the characters are so well played among which, of course, Tamaki (Suzuki Honami) is the best. Though I first know Suzuki Honami from her "Tokyo Love Story", I want to say that Suzuki Honami is great at playing the role of a devoted loving woman. Not only the love between man and woman, but also the love of work, of one's own dream, the love of truth and good things in the world. Love in a more abstract and broader sense. I am a big fan of Suzuki san. It pains me to have to rip this drama when I expected her usual great perfomances, but for me this was a sleeping pill. Everyone just looked like they were just acting on auto pilot and not really gving any kind of real inspired acting. Every aspect of the subject of this drama has been done already and a lot better. Even the aspect of her being a female reporter wasn't that interesting for me after seing JOSHIANA. This is actually the first J-dorama that I watched one that hooked me on the genre. Honami is superb in her last comeback ever. She had been a top idol since 1986, and with good reason. Her acting with current teen favorite Takizawa shows a lot of good chemistry. You almost wish Honami was really his mother... Nagatsuka, a veteran of samurai and workplace movies, plays a good fountain of wisdom. Norika is very credible as the antagonist. Fukigoshi actually looks better here than in Naguru Onna (too plain) and Ashita ga Aru sa (a weasel). News no Onna was another great light-hearted and fun drama to watch! Similar to Nanisama (strong independent woman in the workplace type of show), the cast was very strong and I liked Norika's jealous performance in this one. Kyozo was just hilarious and it was very interesting to compare his performance from this drama to his rather serious character in Midnight Rain. The dorama is kinda inspirative one. The story seems so real, you know, like our daily life or you can say life-alike. And of course the story is very touching and sometimes funny, too.

After watching "Tokyo Love Story", I really wanted to see other dramas that Suzuki Honami had been in, since I really enjoyed her performance in that series and I could not say any less for this one. Rather, she exceeded my expectations yet again, her character as the anchorwoman, Tamaki Aso, was very much career-oriented and serious versus the fun-loving and energetic, Akana Rika.
The chemistry between the characters was also wonderfully created. Tamaki Aso and Ryu (the fifteen year old son of her late husband) grew together throughout the series and they became close. It was touching and very well done. I couldn't help but wish that Suzuki Honami's character and Takizawa Hideaki's character would get together somehow (although that would be a terrible sin) and make another Forbidden Love type series. The chemistry was definitely there. The news aspect of the dorama was also very well done and kept it really interesting. Humourous! Suzuki plays a top journalist of a broadcasting station
who after the death of her recently married husband, gives her the
custody of his husband's son from a previous marriage. Her stepson
is well, er besides cute and all, has that cold, i dont care and i-dont-wanna
live-here-too attitude. What i look through in this dorama is the quirky but
lovable lawyer who tries to make Suzuki accept her stepson Takky but
we cd see that he does harbour some feelings for her too, only his
moral prevents him from admitting it to his bestfriend's ex wife. Hmm..
watch out for a vey young Fukakyon who plays Takky's classmate.Plus,
the realtionship among em three is very good and convincing-shows
the develepment from non existing trust and love, but dynamically evolved
and at the end, when the three of em walk together, u can see that warmth

Wonderful, wonderful chemistry between all the actors/actresses especially Suzuki as the unwilling foster-mother and Takky as the unwilling foster-son. Gradually the headstrong duo begin to earn each other's begrudging respect, giving us many light-hearted moments in the process. Meanwhile we are treated to valuable lessons about morality, ethics and professionalism, against the backdrop of a news station.

Although this is not groundbreaking by any means, it was a lot of fun, I think they made the most of the material on offer. Suzuki Honami shone, I was particularly impressed with the light-hearted side of her performance. The focus of the drama is more on inter-personal relationships rather than news reporting. It was very good at putting across all aspects of the story, and pretty much the whole support cast delivered very good performances. This is honestly a series that I enjoyed from start to finish. Interesting drama about a iron willed newscaster and her stepson whom shes forced to take in after her husband passes away. Although she never admits it, deep sown she cares for him deeply despite his usual high school teen attitude. Suzuki Honami and Takky did a great job here to bring out such an unusual realtionship. She was very elegant in the show, and radiates a certain charm about her. I din like the theme song though.. it was a bit meh...This drama kept my interest thorughout. A really good drama with great actors and good script. The first half of the show was really funny and emotional, while I found the last few episodes a little boring. But that is probably just me because I didn't care about the newscaster storyline and was much more interested in the dynamics between Aso, Ryuu and Kubota. And, even though he wasn't the lead, Takki showed how amazing an actor he is (even as young as he was back then).
