Cat Street [キャットストリート] Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched) Strong friendship~bond formed among four individuals who each faced past disappointment and together overcome their fears.
Nice 6eps. drama - touching moments throughout. Tanimura Mitsuki ---> Horikita Maki. whatcha think? O_o | Fufudo [夫婦道] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) Well written, thought out - credit to the writers. Plenty LOL funny&touching moments! Good cast/acting. The father vs mother arguments can get so fast&2funny!! :D
2nd episode the mother "EVERYTHING'S MOM'S FAULT!" LOL everyone blamin' everyone. I think we can all relate! :p | Gonzo - Densetsu no Keiji [ゴンゾウ] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) Credit writers/casting/actors - Uchino Masaaki (strong performance [w/disorder]), Tsutsui Michitaka. 7th ep. (&on) strong/emotional. |
Hanzawa Naoki [半沢直樹] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) First 5 eps. make up the first part. 6th - new story, larger amount. Sakai does a good job; I like his character.
Good support from Oikawa, Takito, Akai (in the first part), and Ueto. | Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) Sawajiri Erika (Aya), Nishikido Ryo (Haruto), Jinnai Takanori (Mr. Ikeuchi), Yakushimaru Hiroko (Mrs. Ikeuchi), Narumi Riko (Ako) - all good job. Father's fighting spirit (comedic relief), strong supportive family. Ep. 6 Narumi Riko ~strong touching scene. | Itazura na Kiss [イタズラなKiss] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) COMPLETELY OVA-DA-TOP! & SO FUNNY! Kashiwabara Takashi (Irie Naoki) plays the cool lead with good looks&brains. Sato Aiko (Aihara Kotoko) plays the 'not too bright' girl who's head over heels in love with Naoki. And yes, she's LOUD!! HA! She's got a big heart and determined to win Naoki over. Over-the-top acting&expressions of Kotoko and her friends, especially Aoki Shinsuke (Nakamura Kinnosuke [Kin]) are just 2funny. I think Kotoko's mouth is a laugh-o-meter! The louder it gets, the louder the laughs! |
Jyoou no Kyoushitsu [女王の教室] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) Amami Yuki ~devilish, beautiful to watch. Shida Mirai always positive. Enjoyed watching both. Final shot priceless. | Kingyo Club [金魚倶楽部] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) Relaxed soft spoken pace. Haru lookin' after (bullied) Koto. Nice ending. Note: 20min. eps. | Konna koi no hanashi [こんな恋のはなし] (Watched) Old skool drama. Relaxing pace allowing good character development. Sanada Hiroyuki plays the cool lead, Matsushima Nanako the sweet girl, and Tamaki Koji the nice guy. Enjoyed watching the three. |
Kumo no Kaidan [雲の階段] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) GREAT 1st episode! Started fast never let up! Good acting. 3rd ep. good. End of 5th! ~some adrenaline moments~ keeps you on edge a bit. | Mother Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) Good cast, strong performance by all. Well written - touching moments throughout, annoyances few and far between. There's several stories - much of the cast with their own personal issues - adds to the interest. It is slow paced so make it relaxed viewing. | Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人] Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched) Nagase Tomoya moves in with bride's family helping each with issues that in the end bring all closer together. |
Musashi [武蔵] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) NHK 49 Episodes. Ichikawa Shinnosuke was superb. His kabuki background shines clearly through his expressions. Excellent cast. | Namae o Nakushita Megami [名前をなくした女神] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Over-the-top, dramatic, and annoying ~but entertaining. Whole cast did a good job. 7th ep. good one ~kept it going. 10th wonderful & powerful! Though the synopsis mentions the mothers - the fathers and children deserve mention also. Everyone shared equal screen time. Again, the whole cast did a good job. ayaka ~ rara kawaii!! :) | Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ] Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched) Franz (Takenaka Naoto - talented actor) steals the show, his mannerisms/broken Japanese 2funny! Chiaki, Nodame, and rest with their quirky personalities good intro. Unfortunately, Franz leaves us after the 5th (and takes the comedy with him). From then on, it's basically orchestral/piano practicing/performing. A plus if you carry one of these instruments and/or are into classical music. |
Oishii Gohan [おいしいごはん] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) Many a year ago dvd purchase ~regardless number of times watched - always enjoyable.
Relaxed light-hearted family comedy drama. Good cast. Mizukawa Asami in her loligoth dancing to Pink Lady! :p | Oniyome Nikki [鬼嫁日記] Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched) Mizuki Arisa and Gori cast perfect for these roles ~enjoyable~fun(ny) to watch. Gori's screamS :O - 2funny! Madoko-chan ka wa ii! :)
Many times it's the guys vs. girls with Koike Teppei always tipping the scale towards Mizuki's side which bring big laughs. | Oshin [おしん] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) NKH 297 Episodes x 15 mins. each. Wonderful acting - so natural. Nazukashi ~nostalgic feelings. A look at the hardships of being poor. Lil Oshin wa totemo kawaii~with the cutest rosey red cheeks. It's fun watching her. When spoken to, she always listens attentively with interest~eye contact. Enter 16 year old Oshin - very well mannered in moral&etiquette. Kayo hasn't changed. :D Oshin hits Tokyo - new work, changes in her personal life, and eps. filled with smiles&laughter. Oshin is even quite silly at times. :p Late teens/early 20s continues with struggles of work and family life. There's a long run of eps. that'll anger and exhaust many. It did me and although I'm not sure keeping the viewer in such an angry state for so long is good viewing, it's addicting (as is this whole drama anyways). As we near the 200 mark, we'll be reminded of a lil Oshin again! and again, tears of joy. The series will touch all emotions, from sadness to laughter to anger. Nakamura Masatoshi (early eps.) delivers some really powerful lines that are moving ~kurushi~tsurai~kanashi.
(Edit after watching years later a 2nd time). The first go-around, little Oshin had captured my heart. But after watching it again, it's definitely Tanaka Yuko who makes this drama.
Elder Oshin covers her rise in business and the lives of her now grown children. A lot of back and forth bickering with her son Hitoshi on business decisions/personal life (both can be annoying and each take blame). The third act is forgettable at times - not to say it's not entertaining, just more people being covered and the consequences not as dire.
Regardless, this still stands as my all-time favorite Japanese drama. The drama is up and down throughout (tears of sadness/joy go back and forth) so it moves and keeps it entertaining.
Note: Lil Oshin (Eps. 1-36). Young lady to middle years (Eps.37-225). Later years (Eps. 226 - 297). |
Oyaji~ [オヤジぃ] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Good cast. Hirosue Ryoko enjoyed. The side characters Kato Koji, Ishida Yuriko, and Yazawa Shin as Sumika ~good performances also. | Rikon Bengoshi Season 2 [離婚弁護士II〜ハンサム ウーマン〜] Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched) An edge/bias for Amami Yuki - rest of cast are enjoyable. Relaxed viewing. | Ruri no shima [瑠璃の島] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Narumi Riko (1 Litre Of Tears). Relaxed, touching ~tears of sadness&joy.
Note: The SP was a bit of a let down although it was nice to see the cast again. Give it a wait if you do feel inclined to watch it. |
Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi [最後から二番目の恋] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) 4th ep. - young scriptwriter, Kuriyama Haruka-sensei with the three older ladies ~too funny! Koizumi and Nakai's arguments bit on the annoying side but 8th ep., it got so hot&heated...couldn't stop grinning. :) End of 8th the funniest!! chu!! <3 Credit to the writers some really funny lines in this drama. Good cast. Small knock - if you've seen 1ep, you've seen several ~you get some repeated stuff. The SP is more a continuation~ like extra episodes, more of the same. | Saito-san [斉藤さん] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) Mizuki Arisa (Oniyome Diary). Dealing with moral issues. Mizuki always standing up for what's right while the others would prefer look away ~cowards. Some episodes dealing with the bullying high schoolers, some with the little kids, and some the parents. It's nice to see the change in Mimura's character through the series - her bubbly personality sometimes can't help but make you laugh. I enjoy watching Mizuki Arisa and I'm glad she came back with a good one. Oni Yome Nikki 2 wasn't as good as the 1st and CA to Oyobi was awful. Takashima Reiko - always professional, sharp, attractive lady. Casting did someone a favor on Mimura's boy (ugly + squeaky voice). | Seigi no Mikata [正義の味方] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) Shida Mirai (Jyoou no Kyoushitsu), Yamada Yu. Light hearted. Fun watching both sisters ~their expressions. |
Walkin' Butterfly [ウォーキン・バタフライ] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) Nakabeppu Aoi is LOUD! over-The-TOP animated! 2fUnNy!! Mix in other emotions she does well - talented actress imo. Her character/expressions are a cross between Sato Aiko (Itazura na Kiss) loud~animated and Yamada Yu (Seigi no Mikata) evil eye~strong. It's a shame she's not getting bigger roles ~makes me wonder if it isn't the height? Still, shame. Note: 30min eps. | Yottsu no Uso [四つの嘘] Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched) Mix of genres/personalities. Everyone foolin' around. :) First half entertaining, second half settles down a bit. | |
