101 Kaime no Puropozu [101回目のプロポーズ] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) | Beach boys [ビーチボーイズ] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) This show is about life. It might not be the most realistic show u've ever watched. But it changed my views on life. It doesnt teach u anything, but rather lets u feel its hidden meanings. Its abit like Forrest Gump in that sense. I dont know how to describe this show..but I do love it. I am a happier person after I watched it than before I watched it. If u ever watch any dorama, watch this dorama. | Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) |
Dekichatta Kekkon [できちゃった結婚] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) I love this show!!! Take it wif a pinch of salt, though. Yutaka n Ryoko go through the 'nightmare' of a shotgun marriage.. talk about major decision making. The show is a bit too light-hearted for such a serious topic, and despite all the problems they encountered, it still feels abit optimistic. However, the acting of those 2 is convincing enough to make u empathise wif 'em, which is enough 4 me. It definitely has its sweet moments. Overall, a feel-good movie => - I like. Dun miss Sonny Chiba's performance as the disapproving father!!! Hilariously excellent!! | Engine [エンジン] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) This drama was based on the theme of commercial flying.. Kimura plays a young pilot who absolutely loves flying and dreams of becoming a captain one day. His straight-talking character is endearing because of his compassion and his desire to fly. The love story with kou Shibasaki was enjoyably similar to the love-hate relationship between Kimura and Takako in Love Gen.
I felt that Tsutsumi Shinichi's portrayal of Capt Kouda was perfect to a t... the classic stone-cold-look but warmth-deep-inside character. I really sympathised with him as the true nature of his character unfolded.
The couple of episodes near the ending really really touched me and the musical score was great and portrayed the emotion of the show excellently.. but I dint like the ending theme though.
I rate this a must-watch. |
GTO [麻辣教師] Rating: 8/10 The first JDorama I ever bought; the fourth I watched. This dorama opened my eyes in that its not a typical drama, it's actually abit crazy and would instantly be deemed ridiculous by any self-respecting conservative society.
However, therein also lies its appeal, a certain freshness that would come to represent my favorite type of dramas, ones that are highly improbable but still vaguely possible. Takashi Sorimachi easily pulls off the cool gangster teacher thingie. Laughs abound and feel-good factor kicks in everytime an "episode problem" is solved. Matsushima Nanako is _hot_. Overall, great dorama to catch. | Hero Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Cool plot twists in this detective-type of show, with investigative revelations in every episode, like a whodunnit series. Brilliant acting by Kimura as usual, this time he's the cool, easily-underestimatable credential-less detective stuck in a ridiculously incompetent and political back-stabbing legal department. Intrigueing will they?-wont they? relationship wif Takako. It started off slowly for me, but had a respectable run-in to the ending. Interesting... | Hito ni Yasashiku [人にやさしく / 3ピース] Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched) |
Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Decent dorama. Thought it was going to be a standard tearjerker at first, but there's more to it than just that; the amazing courage of the main character in the story was quite inspirational. It is based on a real-life story, loosely or closely I don't know, but knowing that someone really went through all that makes it well, more real. The way the family and friends react and pull together to help one of their own is also touching.
One of those shows that makes you think about your life and whether you're happy with it. The fact that the two main characters are eye candy does not hurt the watchability of this show. Konayuki is a great song by Remioromen! | Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) | Koori no sekai [冰の世界] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |
Last Christmas [ラストクリスマス] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Deja vu of Tokyo Love Story all the way hahaha. But its good acting all round and Oda Yuji has made the role of the sensible, reliable but sensitive man, his. Though their age difference is quite obvious, the chemistry he strikes with Yada Akiko is quite believable. I found the tempo of the drama a bit slow at times, and the subplots were alright, not fantastic. Overall, a very decent drama worth watching, esp. for those fans of love dramas. Very romantic indeed. | Long vacation [ロングバケーション] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | Love generation [ラブジェネレーション] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) My favorite romantic dorama. It has Kimura in it, and his chemistry with Takako is unbelievable. It is sweet and sad. Draggy parts threatened to spoil it, but their great relationship swept that aside, and I ended up watching it almost all at one go. Watch this show. |
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) Kind of disturbing in some ways.. the Dorama supported the idea of a teacher-student relationship.. I suppose not in that particular sense but as a "Why should external factors such as Society's views get in the way of true love?" way.
I guess it might have been appealing to me if the couple still looked physically compatible(yes, visual compatibility is a factor in the plausibility of dorama relationships) a la Return of the Condor Heroes aka Shen Diao Xia Lu where student Yang Guo still looks physically compatible with Teacher Xiao Long Nu. Still, I guess I was brought up in the traditional way so this doesnt really cut it. | Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) | News no onna [ニュースの女] Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched) Wonderful, wonderful chemistry between all the actors/actresses especially Suzuki as the unwilling foster-mother and Takky as the unwilling foster-son. Gradually the headstrong duo begin to earn each other's begrudging respect, giving us many light-hearted moments in the process. Meanwhile we are treated to valuable lessons about morality, ethics and professionalism, against the backdrop of a news station.
I feel that what sets this drama apart from the rest is the brilliant orchestral score that does credit to every scene, be it humorous, touching, brave or sad. It really is an excellent drama.. full marks from me!! |
Nisennen no koi [二千年の恋] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) | Orange Days [オレンジデイズ] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) A dorama that survives and transcends the typical 'disabled' tag by setting it in a unique background. I would say its a fair reflection of the uncertainty that graduating students face and the quiet, desperate urge to enjoy what precious school time left with your friends. Funny and moving scenes are both excellent and in abundance. Great chemistry between the leads, great OST by Naoki Sato of Good Luck!! I really liked Kai's selfless, emotional character and Sae who underwent a personality change. Kou Shibasaki shows that she is a versatile actress and Tsumabuki Satoshi does himself credit, and I dont have a single bad thing to say about the rest of the supporting cast. I love this drama. n Sign by mr. children rocks!!!! | Over Time [オーバー・タイム] Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) |
Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi [空から降る一億の星] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) A deeply disturbing drama.. an interesting change from the usual light-hearted formulas.
Kimura is brilliant as the tragic anti-hero, slowly revealing the reasons for his lack of humanity as the story unfolds. The supporting cast did well to add to the suspense and even the music kind of lends a haunting effect. The ending theme "Smile" is chosen ironically.
However i got really depressed watching this show. If you are in a bad mood, watching this drama will make it worse =<
P.S. I think Kimura looks really cool in that black-jacket-with epaulettes-thingie. | Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ] Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched) | Summer snow Rating: 7/10 (Watched) |
