Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) The ending wasn't a big suprise, but it still made you cry a little. I love how their relationship unfolded. The shock value in the first episode of Kyoko being snappy and then coming out with her wheelchair really made me think twice. I learned alot about how handicaps are treated in Japan by watching this. It was a beautiful love story... Mmmm, Kimura Takuya ... wish I had known about SMAP earlier! | Densha Otoko [電車男] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) The best romantic comedy of the year! This drama makes you laugh, makes you cry, and makes you jump up and down going, "Ganbatte, Densha!" This story marks the trials of an Otaku trying to win the love of a Goddess, who he saved from a terrible pervert on the train. His greatest strength comes from the advice and support of his friends on an internet bulletin board. | Gokusen [ごくせん] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) At first I thought, "Hey its the female GTO!" I'd have to say I still think its similar to that. There were lots of nummy male and female actors, many cute and funny times.. I recommend it for good laughs and a few inspirational moments. I'm also a fan of Namaka Yukie and this is one of her comedic masterpieces. She pulls off the yakuza daughter turned ditzy school teacher Yankumi in such a fluent fashion. |
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) This was entertaining, but the story doesn't carry the same weight as the drama genre expects. I didn't rush to finish watching this one. It was more episodic, the day to day happenings at an airline company. The love story was a bit strained, but it was nice to see determination to become that which you love to do. | GTO [麻辣教師] Rating: 8/10 My first drama ever. I had heard the GTO anime was good but I got ahold of the LiveAction first. This led me into the new world of JDorama! I thought Sorimachi Takashi was uber cute and so is his wife! Glad they got married IRL. ^_^ The story is awesome, you gotta love the thought of having a teacher who would stick out his neck for you. And a cute one at that! Great cast overall, I want a teacher like that! | Hana Yori Dango [花より男子] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Boy meets girl in one of the most amusing ways possible. A romantic comedy focusing on the poor girl in a rich school, who butts heads with the school's lead bully. Although I do not generally like Matsumoto Jun, he made a version of Doumyouji that is somewhat likeable and believable to the audience. Inoue Mao deserves props for her acting - she was superb as the lead heroine. Oguri Shun did a turn around from many of his previous roles, playing the cool and socially inept Hanazawa Rui. I think his acting skills shine through in every drama he does. ^_^ |
Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙] Rating: 10/10 (Watched) It's no secret that this drama will leave you in tears. From the first sentence in this drama to the ending sequence, you know this girl is going to die. And you know it is a true story. With that in mind, you get to put yourself into the mind of a young girl just starting highschool. Sawajiri Erika performs beautifully as Aya, the girl inflicted with the paralyzing disease. Nishikado Ryou plays a love interest, and a very sympathetic one at that. I'd be so happy if I learned that his charecter existed in real life. I also applaud the performance of Narumi Riko, who plays one of Aya's sisters. Definately heartwrenching, and makes me tear up when I think about it. | Ikebukuro West Gate Park [池袋ウエストゲートパーク] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) This drama is a little bizarre and creepy at times. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the camera angles and the plot development. And who wouldn't want to watch Nagase? :) I heard that Yamapi got an award for his acting in this one. I can't see why, because he's so quiet and you barely hear from him at all. It's a good murder mystery story with a bunch of fun on the side. | Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Ahh this was so cute! I think guy's should watch it too, its gotta be a fantasy! Having a girl give you a bath and all! Adorable story! Koyuki was wonderful! MatsuJun was rather whiney, but I guess that is expected of a 'pet'. Would have been nice if it ended a touch happier, but its all good. Good looking guys! Mmmmm! |
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) This one got me hooked, right when I was just venturing into drama. I never saw the first KouKou Kyoushi and I wondered how much of it was relevant... but I really liked how it went. The ending left me hanging! They guys were all good actors and the young girls were quite cute. I think the charecter Beniko stole the show! Lots of weird life lessons. Lots of romance.. :) | Long vacation [ロングバケーション] Rating: 5/10 (Watched) Cute story. You feel so sorry for Sena when watching this. And Minami is just weird, and then she grows on you. They needed more scenes with Momo-chan, she was super cute and was great at giving advice. Great ending! Tears of joy! I didn't care too much for the theme song tho, but lots of wonderful piano-action! | Moto Kare [元カレ] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I've been a fan of Dohmoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko when I first saw them paired in Summer Snow. While I still think Summer Snow was one of the best dramas I have seen, it was refreshing to see them somewhat paired up again. What would you do if you met "the one that got away" a few years later? How do you explain it to your current girlfriend, to whom you have already pledged your devotion? This plot follows such a path. |
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース] Rating: 9/10 (Watched) Two hot guys, one female transfer student. A friendship is formed when the three decide to 'produce' the girl, in hopes of making her one of the most popular girls in the school. This proves to be a difficult task, as Nobuta can't speak clearly, walks funny, and never did learn social skills. Although there isn't a ton of 'producing' happening, its a good story of friendship and bizarre occurances that happen in daily highschool life. The ending song 'Seisshun Amigo' is a must-have! It describes the two males character's (Shuuji and Akira) relationship, and was a number one hit in Japan. | Orange Days [オレンジデイズ] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Ahh what a cute love story. College life couldn't get any better, what with friends and love and all.. but then you are forced to grow up. As these charecters grow up they face problems that normal people like us deal with. After watching this you'll start to feel like conversing in sign language, because it seemed so cool! | Pride [プライド] Rating: 7/10 (Watched) I would watch any drama with Kimura Takuya in it! With that said... what guy and girl can't bond over this show? Love and sports, really, doesn't that just bridge all the boundaries? :) And what sport isn't complete without Queen music to back it up? As expected of dramas it has love, death, confusion, and in the end a sense of happiness. Time is the true test of love in this series. |
Satomi Hakenden [里見八犬伝] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) A curse that threatens the existence of the country of Satomi is on the verge of being uplifted, if only the eight warriors can band together to save the country in time. I liked the SFX, I liked many of the performances. This all star cast delivered an excellent show! I recommend watching it - especially if you love samurai shows. | Stand UP!! Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched) A romantic comedy much like that of American Pie, only seen through the Japanese perspective. Four boys spend their summer in pursuit of women, in the hopes of loosing their virginity by the summer's end. An old childhood friend shows up out of nowhere, and she tends to spoil their well thought-out plans. Will they ever get laid? And will Chie ever tell them why she suddenly reappeared? | Summer snow Rating: 10/10 (Watched) I cried so much when I watched the ending I had to watch it twice. Very unexpected, and you wanna scream 'NO!'. Natsuo was a really great charecter, I'd love to have him as my brother. Not the hottest of guys.. but the charecter's personality made you love him. Ryoko was just so cute... Oguri Shun really fooled me with his deaf performance. Cute too. ^_~ |
Tokyo Wankei [東京湾景] Rating: 6/10 (Watched) Nakama Yukie plays a second generation Korean girl living out the struggles that happen in modern day Japan. Through this drama you get a bit of understanding about this situation that is still plaguing Japan. Yukie's charecter one day opens up her mother's diary and reads about the forbidden love her mother once had. She then finds herself travelling down the same path as her mother, becoming strangely attracted to a man who fits the same profile as the man her mother once loved. Will her love follow in the footsteps of her mother? | Trick [トリック] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) I love Nakama Yukie. The boob jokes never get old! And the penis ones for that matter... These two actors have great chemistry together. They are a Japanese version of Mulder and Scully, in a lighter and happier tone - I am sure of it. Add in the comic relief of the cops... truly this is an Xfiles parody, is it not? Ahh but I loved it anyway. | Trick Season 2 [トリック2] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) Abe Hiroshi and Nakama Yukie are back. And better? Well... it's still just as funny, just as qwerky, and there are still boob jokes. Not as many penis jokes this time around... Highly entertaining series. |
Trick Season 3 [トリック3] Rating: 8/10 (Watched) I loved this season of Trick the best! The cast is back. They are up to the same 'ol 'tricks' again. The last two episodes feature Hiroki Narimiya with a bowl haircut.. *lol* And the ending was much better than I could have asked for. It was so.. comedically romantic! If you were wondering if this season was worth it, I'll vouch for it and tell you that you MUST see it! | | |
