Three years ago, the former all-girl Himeno High School opened its doors to male students, but remains a female-dominated institution with the majority of students being girls.
One day Eikichi Mizushima transfers from prestigious Aoba High School in Tokyo where he was a member of the swimming team. While his father is away in New York starting a new business, Eikichi has decided to come to Himeji and live with his grandfather Kamekichi.
Yosuke Yamamoto had always wanted to establish a boy's sports club in school. When he learns that Eikichi belonged to a swimming club, he springs into action.
The other boys in the school include Senichi Kawasaki nicknamed "Wolf Boy Sen", the good-looking Iwao Iwata who is the only boy the girls talk to, and Hideki Sano, the rich son of the President of a major supermarket, who is always surrounded by fans. Eikichi's arrival soon influences the boys in school and changes their way of thinking.
Eikichi is surrounded by unique characters at the school. Shiori Yazawa, a senior at Himeno High, together with her parents Akira and Kaoru, live in a rented portion of Kamekichi's house. Kayo Oba, the student body president, is feared by the boys. Kozue Kitagawa, a devilish girl, belongs to the school wind ensemble together with Shiori. The substitute teacher Hijiri Saotome is a former swimmer at Tadano High School. English teacher Natsuko Ohara strongly opposes "men's synchronized swimming." Classic literature teacher Haruka Koshino hates men. And then there's the coffee shop owner Kozo Kasuya, who has something fishy about him. | | Fuji TV |

A lot of the same elements used in Waterboys was used in Waterboys 2. You still have the small group of synchro swimmers struggling to find a way to keep their club alive, and struggling to find a place to practice/perform. You have the same problem with members, who join when the club is popular, and leave when the club is slandered against. You have the teachers who are opposed to the club for their own biased reasons. You have the female lead that is in love with the male lead, but hides her feelings because her friend likes the same guy. You have one of the boys getting physically injured and hospitalized as a result. You even have the aquarium where the synchro boys go to work.
However, regardless of the fact that you have the same basic structure in both dramas, the second season still manages to hold its own. The situations were varied and interesting, and although plot points are near-identical, the characters manage to grasp your attention. The five �gchosen�h main synchro boys were delightful to watch, as was Asami Reina is the overbearing student president. Kaneko Takatoshi was brilliant as Saotome-sensei. I�fm really glad he wasn�ft overdone and annoying to watch. And of course, Ishihara Satomi was wonderful and lovely and balanced the male lead, Ichihara Hayato quite well. Although I�fm not at all attracted to him, he was adorable and paired with Satomi-chan, helped the �gkawai-meter�h blow a fuse.
I think I�fve become immune to skinny Japanese boys in speedos. I suppose Nakao Akiyoshi had a hand in it. Rather than go through all the similarities between this reboot and the other versions, I'll comment on what most impressed me. The kids in this series are small and noble and very endearing. Who couldn't love those precious, eager faces? I wanted to adopt them all. The acting, as in most doramas, is uneven. The leads are very subtle and earnest. Some of the secondary and tertiary characters are over-the-top, which caused me a bit of confusion. I should be used to it, but it clashes with the more realistic performances.
The parents are loving and sacrifice for their kids. All the corny portrayals of parents and adults in other doramas annoy me. At least even the silly adults in this one are kind-hearted. The more realistically-portrayed adults are likeable and set good examples.
The story is corny and goofy and sweet. What it lacks in believability, it makes up for in the charm and kindness of its characters. Water Boys 2 is a morality play, teaching its young viewers how to behave and care for the needs of others. Some might find this annoying, but I found it refreshing and it made me care deeply for the story's kids. They are winning and adorable, unlike the selfish and obnoxious teens that seem to proliferate.
Perhaps Water Boys 2 is a wishful reflection of the best in young people -- idealism, optimism, mercy, perseverance. At any rate, I usually have no interest in re-watching a series, but this one will be played over and over. One of the best drama I've ever seen. The casts are wonderful espcially the five main water boys, their united friendships made the impossible possible. Every episode is entertaining, funny and meaningful. I've been skip watching Water Boys 1, and went straight to the very last episode. In my opinion, comparing the two Water Boys drama, Water Boys 2 is a lot better than Water Boys 1. Starting from the opening credits, WB2 looked a lot more professional then that of WB1. And the ending of WB2 is moving and very emotional compare to the latter. The syncronized swimming moves performed in the last episodes show some similarities to WB1 and the WB movie. If you think WB2 is a duplicate of WB1 then I would say WB1 is a duplicate of WB the movie. In WB2, the synconized swimming moves performed were some what more advanced and at times a lot more difficult. This is esp true for the 5 levels tower that almost all the WB took part of. Water Boys the movie didn't have the tower, and Water Boys 1 had a 4 levels towers, but fewer people participated.
The new version of Niji sung by Fukuyama Masaharu was just wonderful and perfect for WB2 theme song.
The casts in WB2 are fairly well known. Great chemistry for the five main WBs. They are energetic and lovable.

Waterboys 2 is basically a clone of 1. It throws in almost the same roles played by different characters. I cant help but feel disappointed when i keep finding blatant similarities to 1. They also made it even more far fetched this time, although its supposed to be a happy go lucky show, i think they kinda overdid it abit.
small spoilers: (eg. 5 main characters/they always go to a bar/2 girls who likes the main character/alot of the moves during the final performance was the same as the first one/even the main theme is reused, albeit rearranged, and i yes prefer the original version of the song used in 1.)
This sequel only beats the first one in one aspect: eye candy. This time the main cast was really good eye candy, beating the first show totally. Other than that, i think the first show beats this sequel in every aspect.. I was touched when i finished seeing the final performance of 1. But not 2. Cos the final performance had too many moves similar to 1. When i saw them for the first time in 1, i thought "YES! they finally DID IT" , but it just isnt going to work when u do it a second time, almost copying moves from the first time.

I liked this story, it may have been a sequal to the first dorama, and also followed the movie, but it was still a great comedy which was one purpose for it.....Even though I can't compare it to the first dorama series, I still say Ichihara and Ishihara were a good combination, but a little bit of confusion as to where their relationship as cousins, was going....

To me, waterboys 2 is a much more polished sequel to its predecessor, if a bit superficial in its actual characters. The music updated with strings and piano, there's breathtaking scenery, two promising leads in hayato and satomi - but the supporting cast just didn't match up against that of series one. Nevertheless, it keeps you thoroughly entertained, even when you sense a bit of deja vu. this show got me hooked on japanese shows!!i think its because of the eye candy(ichihara hayato!!) and the sypnosis of this show..its a show not worth missing every weekend.
i didnt watch waterboys 1 so i have no idea what to compare,but i can asure you dat waterboys 2 is worth watching.the last episode got me crying.
i hope there would be waterboys 3 with the same cast.ichihara hayato n friends acted really well.the twins also should be given credit.they're so adorable!!

I loved watching this drama. I thought it was a good combination between comedy and drama. Some parts were just so funny...and other times I found myself wanting to cry. This drama turned me into an Ichihara fan...and he and Satomi looked so cute together.

i love it. it is a little below the frist one but i like it! i admire the actors for practising the sync. swimming just as i admired the actors in the frist one. plus, ichihara hayato and ishihara satomi had such good chemestry.

i love this drama! eikichikun is so cute and so is the rest of his sychronized swimming team. this drama is absolutely wonderful. i also enjoyed watching saotome sensei. hes a great actor.

I think this was as great as the first. Though I would probably prefer the first if I have to choose between them. The friendship in the first season was better, I think. You got to know alot about all five of them, their troubles and thoughts.. but not in this second season. It's mostly about Eikichi and Yosuke, barely about the others. I'd like to know more about them and what they think.. I think the spirit and power from first season are more shown than this second..
However, I won't complain too much, otherwise it will sound like this second season is crap, but it ISN'T. I enjoyed watching it. The actor playing Eikichi was really great and convincing and the actor for Shiori was good as well. Overall, I liked all the actors. Hah, especially Yosuke. His sweet big smile makes the series shine XD.
The performance at last was soo great. The actors must really have been training to death when learning the tecniques.. They seem so difficult and it was so much. Really beautiful. It's admireable. They really did their best. Most of the vote goes for the performance ^_^.
However, if you have watched Water Boys, then you should watch Water Boys II as well. Although the plot is mostly the same, they are different in their own unique way, so this is recommended. One of the best moodlifters ever. This show made me feel totally refreshed and uplifted and motivated - it's a great show to watch when you're feeling down or lost in life. The movie was fun, the first series wasn't that good though, but this second season was just awesome. Ichihara Hayato and Ishihara Satomi were really impressive in it. The synchro moves were more intense and beautiful than ever. This drama is an excellent tale of growing up, working hard and building understanding among family and peers alike. Very nice second season. It's not often you find a dorama with a second season that doesn't become boring halfway through... this is one of those rare cases.
Much of the story repeated itself of course, but it's so exciting to see what they're going through and of course the last performance, which by the way is even better than the one from the first season!

Well like most people said this is the same plot as the original(of course not a copy like Gokusen for example), i was entertained by this one, but it wasn�Lt as good as the first one.
First the cast was much weaker, the characters tried very hard to be funny but they failed and they were annoying specially Koike Teppei; the story was way over the top and the constant overacting was annoying.

Pretty much a clone of Water Boys, but to be honest, I'm okay with that. I really loved Water Boys so it's great seeing more. I'm kind of glad they're not at Tadano anymore. I was also really really really happy that Saotome (from the movie) came back. I really love the whole "girls against boys" throughout the series.

Nov 2004: The overall plot is better than the first serie, but the last episode didnt impress me as much as the first series, maybe the choice of the songs.....a really good effort trying to do 5 storey tower, thumbs up for the actors who really put hardwork on this scene. I didn't like the fact that the drama focused more on the guys just trying to get the damn club allowed, and the stuff that went outside the syncro club. I wished they focused more on the Syncro stuff like in the first one. One of the best moodlifters ever. This show makes me feel totally refreshed and uplifted and motivated - it's a great show to watch when you're feeling down or lost in life. The movie is fun, the first series wasn't that good though, but this second season is just awesome. Ichihara Hayato and Ishihara Satomi were really impressive in it. The synchro moves are more intense and beautiful than ever. This drama is an excellent tale of growing up, working hard and building understanding among family and peers alike.
