| 1. | A Synopsis for those interested... [Rating: 6/10] Since no one has written a synopsis or review for this drama yet, I figured I might as well attempt to..
Here's the question: If you are responsible for the (though accidental) death of a girl, then end up falling mutually head over heals with her boyfriend, can the two of you ever be together, because of your previous crime?" This is pretty much what the drama is about.
Nagase Tomoya, his girlfriend Kanno Miho, and their friend Okina Megumi are on a trip in Australia where they accidentally run into Honjou Manami and her friend. Through a weird trick of fate, the two groups ending up meeting again at a beach, where due to unlucky circumstances, Honjou Manami ends up hitting Kanno Miho with a dune buggy. Although Kanno Miho says that nothing is wrong with her, and allows Honjou Manami and her friend to leave, she ends up dying later from a head concusion. The story takes off from there where Honjou Manami discovers and tries to deal with the fact that she caused someone's death, Nagase Tomoya shows intense hatred of Honjou Manami to cover up the fact that he's really falling in love with her, and vice versa, and Okina Megumi trying to support Nagase and make Manami pay for the death of her friend.
Things get even more twisted when it turns out that the lawyer Nagase, etc. has hired against Manami turns out to be Manami's boyfriend.
All in all, it's on really big messy love situation where the only true couple is Nagase and Honjou, but they have to overcome their own feelings of guilt for falling in love.
And that's just the beginning.
Now for my review:
I thought the story was interesting, although it was confusing sometimes with all the love triangles, squares, and one-sided love situations. The only thing that keeps me from giving this drama a higher rating is that Honjou Manami got on my nerves in the second part of the series where she's trying to atone for her crime by doing whatever Kanno Miho's mother tells her to do. It's really quite pathetic what she's willing to do (be prepared to sleep with men that the mother has told her to.) She acts really whiny.
All in all not bad though. | Reviewed by Eyrien* on 8 July 2002 | 2. | Ai wa nan desu ka [Rating: 9/10] An unexpected accident, an unlikely love affair, a star-crossed couple.
This drama has a very interesting story setup, with plenty of twists in between. Be prepared for some shocking moments. Suna no ue no koi bito tachi, as the title suggests, is about love. The love between Akira and Rei are very well conveyed through the various painful moments they had to go through. It is what is not said that elicits the deep feelings, such as the first time they held their hands.
The concept of Tsugunai, or atonement and the torturous guilt are also well presented in here. Making this love story even more layered and meaningful.
The characters, Akira and Rei try to find what love really is, especially Akira. He progresses with the progression of the story, at the end, he finds what he is looking for and makes his decision.
This is a drama that requires deeper comprehension and appreciation. Many people who are just looking for another Love Generation or the sort will certainly not find that here. However, what one does see here is a wonderful multi-layered story that is about one thing - true love. | Reviewed by FierceStriker on 12 December 2003 | 3. | Draggy. [Rating: 1/10] I cannot believe that this is a japanese drama. It is just too draggy and boring. The lead actress is not attractive. Megumi should be the lead actress instead. Thus, it makes the drama to have no attractive points. Nagase is as stiff as ever. | Reviewed by ahfong on 13 June 2004 |

The plot was okay, but I honestly do find it a bit too slow at times.
Probably won't watch it if not for Tomoya... | 3. | Comments by cass_dust [Rating: 7/10] Basically a good show, i think the plot is interesting. The guilt between the main lead is portrayed well.
