(I figure I'll give it to them considering all the weird, offensive Japanese stereotypes we've had here in the U.S. Otomen's Obama is payback for Mickey Rooney's role in Breakfast at Tiffany's if you ask me.) Asuka and Ryo are two of the most genuinely sweet characters I've seen in a while--I actually understood why they love each other so much. I even had a hard time understanding why Tsukushi and Tsukasa from HYD put up with each other sometimes, and I LOVE them, but I totally got it with Ryo and Asuka. It's a very, very silly series, but it embraces its silliness in a way that's endearing. Don't go in expecting anything heavy-handed and you'll probably like this a lot. |
2. | Comments by aimare [Rating: 8/10] This drama may change your view of an ideal boyfriend. He doesn't have to be manly. Guy who loves cooking, sewing, shoujo manga and girly things could make a great boyfriend too. ^^
Otomen is a fun-to-watch drama. It also contains funny parodies, which may be difficult to understand for viewers who're not acquainted with Japanese culture.
The characters in Otomen group; Asuka-chan (Masaki!!! ^^), Juta, Tonomine and Araike, are all so cute! Ryo-chan (played by Kaho) may look plain at first, but she is actually very lovely and suits best for this role. |
3. | Comments by ABINTRA [Rating: 6/10] Hmm... decently good but not great. It's an interesting idea for a drama, good acting all around, hot guys, funny sometimes (kind of hit-or-miss for the humor)... the main pitfall is that it is told in a very cliche, exaggerated, shojo manga style. I guess this makes sense because it is based on a shojo manga, after all, but it seems like the story could've been a bit more original rather than pulling out every shojo manga trick in the bag. Maybe I've just read too much shojo manga and know all too well what to expect... |
4. | Comments by SayaOtonashi [Rating: 7/10] This dorama confused me at first; it seemed a poor copy of Hana Kimi (with that contest things and the beach and someone hiding something, but worst) but after a few episodes it was quite entertaining to see. Chemistry between Asuka and Ryo was simply great, one of the bests I've seen lately. The comedy parts made me smile sometimes but were average. It was also great to see Kimura Ryo in a totally different character than in Hana Kimi (way cooler, btw). Nice simple dorama. |
5. | Comments by EstherM [Rating: 6/10] Light weight! Fluffy fantasy in the vein of Hana Kimi. The gender issues are ridiculous, so what if the hero likes knitting and the heroine can't cook. Hence some storylines are just intolerable. I must admit Okada Masaki has the perfect physique for his role, he's tall and sporty but somewhat feminine, but in a natural way, not in a Johnny's entertainment sequins and feathers way. I was a little offended by the nose jokes. |
6. | Comments by Mimori [Rating: 3/10] I really should stop having high expectations from anything that happens to be an adaptation of a manga.
This started ok, but by the 4th episode it all went downhill, plus the schedule was a all over the place.
I lost any will to watch it but decided to finish it because I love the manga. The only reason I can think of for this being a complete disaster is that the plot doesn't translate well to a drama. =/ |
7. | Comments by Susan [Rating: 9/10] This series was cute and crazy and everything an highschool-romance shoujo manga adaption should be! I loved the main characters and even though I`ve never read the manga, I feel they were really well casted. This is also a very rewatchable series as I found myself rewatching episodes while I waited for the conclusion to be subbed. Sooo adorable! |
8. | Comments by Hinano [Rating: 4/10] It started out really good and the original plot & characters seemed great...but by the 8th episode it pretty much crumbled and nothing was connected to anything. A lot of episode stories were completely disconnected from one another, and the focus on the 2 main characters was abandoned. A shame, had potential to be a great drama. |
9. | Comments by strawberryfzz [Rating: 7/10] Lots of fresh faces but they all seem to hold their own weight. Okada Masaki shines as Asuka-chan. It's a very fluffy, light-hearted drama that is far from ground-breaking but not a complete waste of time either. Watch this one if you're in the mood to see lots of pretty boys and have a good laugh or two. |
10. | Comments by ryouji [Rating: 7/10] at first when i saw the title "otomen" i'm getting excited and waiting to watch this drama!! when i watched the 1st episode i totally like it!! seto kouji was so cute in this drama.. i want to copy his hairstyle! |
11. | Comments by KAZdoramma [Rating: 3/10] really unless u like really cheesy cringing performances then it really isnt worth watching...i stopped half way through and don`t think it might get better when watching it becasue it dosent..... |
12. | Comments by Patazilla [Rating: 8/10] In no way perfect, but amusing nevertheless. I loved the charatcers and the humour in general (often slapsticky). Also liked all the allusions to other famous dramas like HanaDan and Crows Zero. |
13. | Comments by .posse [Rating: 6/10] I was about to give up when the story picked up slightly in autumn season again... but I must say all the owarai and neta inside really annoyed me. |
14. | Comments by hitomi #1 [Rating: 8/10] Bit fluffy and predicatable, but will admit that it was an enjoyable watch, very funny at times, if you like Shojou at all I'd recommend it. |
15. | Comments by T4iyaki [Rating: ?/10] Dropped it around episode 3 cause I heard it didn't turn out to be all that great. Such a shame cause I really like the manga. |
16. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 3/10] Just when you thought they couldn't possibly come up with anything more inane or moronic, they fool you again!! |
17. | Comments by mammothb [Rating: 6/10] light hearted romance comedy, a very likeable female lead. a realistic ending rather than an idealistic ending. |
18. | Comments by delaciel [Rating: 7/10] So...So.... Okada Masaki is cute though LOL
and damn, I hate that cute-girl-wannabe-sensei character (-___-#) |
19. | Comments by sw33t_laydee [Rating: 8/10] I thought it was a good story but I didn't like how some of the episodes were open ended |
