| 1. | despite Kame-horse-face's acting, it's okay [Rating: 7/10] Despite Kame--face's lousy acting (ruins the show, really), this is actually pretty good! the what seemed to be a cliche theme -bimbo>love<rich, ugly>love<pretty- was actually done pretty well...
Too bad the pace becomes a bit slow at times. but it's needed occasionally for touchy romantic doramas like this. And you can't call it repetitive, coz what can you expect froma modern day cinderella story? you can see it all coming. no good company tries to kidnap the rich girl for money, mother of the poor boy being a club worker and does bitchy stuff to rip money off from the rich girl's parents, parents don't agree with the relationship. And of course the obsticles keep coming. And all you have left, is to be expecting the ending.
And what annoyed me the most is that you can really feel how they're trying to sell fruity faces!
I mean, like i said before, using Kame--face for doing a role of someone poor? that dude looks like he does more treatment than Paris Hilton. He's like the fruity version of Blekt.
What's good about this story is, unlike Beautiful Life (gosh i still don't understand why people like that dorama so much), there's actually a side story in it. A story about the love between the beauty and the ugly played by Toda Erika and Kokki so you won't be too focuused and
get bored with the main story. So it's like a modern day cinderella story with a little beauty and the beast seasoning.
Actualy, i'm not surprised if this dorama got an award. The story was a bit heavy and serious, and it's in the mainstream, a very touchy sweet romantic love story. What would surprise me is if any of the cast got an award. It's not what i would call stellar acting, and for some, not even close. But it's good to see the young ones do some serious acting, not the typical teenage love stories.
And the fact that it only has 10 episodes prevented it from being draggy. also, it's not only about love, but friendship too. and good news: it has a pretty solid plot!
a 6.5/10 but more of a 7/10
it's actually worth watching. when i read the reviews, people don't seem to like the ending. i don't really like it too, a bit cliche, but what can do you expect? it's cinderella
If only it wasn't Kame--face's annoying yet lousy acting (hard to admit, but his acting has improved), for instance, his role was done by another young actor that i think is pretty talanted, maybe like Satoshi Tsumabuki, i woould've given it an 8/10. If all characters were played
by superb casts maybe i could've even gave it more.
if you wan't comparison, it's better than Sappuri.
To me, it was worth watching just form Toda Erika! She's so pretty in here!!! she looked super awsome as a medical school student
most important thing, advanced warning yo! : do not watch this if you are against, or cannot stand explicit girl-and-girl kissing scenes! | Reviewed by monta on 5 March 2007 | 2. | Classic teenagers love story [Rating: 7/10] SYNOPSIS
A boy and a girl from highly different social backgrounds meet and fall in love. Their love, of course, faces a lot of obstacles. Hiroto Kanzaki (Kazuya Kamenashi) works hard every day and night for the survival of a small ship repair factory (inherited from his father) as well as the survival of his mother and younger brother, who are suffering from health problems. Living such an underprivileged life, Hiroto has forgotten how to smile. In contrast to him, Nao (Haruka Ayase) is the daughter of a popular jewelry shop owner in a fashionable street in Yokohama. She attends a prestigious exclusive women's college and grew up cheerful and blessed with affluent love. From the moment Hiroto meets her, his closed mind slowly opens up to Nao, who is so innocent that she utters whatever she thinks. Their three close friends, who are also 20 year old's, play an important role in their developing relationship.
REVIEW
Tatta Hitotsu no Koi is a very very classic romantic teenager story. It has all the cliches (poor boy loves rich girl, families are against it, boy does not know how to express his feelings, keeps running all the time in the streets to catch her), but is well done.
The acting is good, even Hamenashi manages pretty well, the story is well written, the side stories bring some additional interest.
It is probably not a dorama that you will remember forever, but you will find it very pleasant to watch and touching at times. | Reviewed by Jackykero on 19 July 2008 | 3. | I've seen it done before [Rating: 6/10] Pretty conventional love story - man without money falls in love with girl who has money, its been done a thousands times before...so what's so good about this drama? Well, it not even that good, saying that though it has two up-and-coming talents in Ayase and Kamenashi who both do a reasonable job but fail to lift the drama from being ordinary. Personally, I think they lacked chemistry - which doesn't help when you've got Kame being all "im so poor so i'm allowed to be sad" all the time combined with Ayase's slightly "im a bimbo but its okay" sort of appearance, and its hard to produce a descent drama. Their were moments, however, where I could see Kame's acting improving gradually, especially from the middle-half of the series onwards. The drama itself probably needed one more episode to fully end on the right terms (and a better screenwriter), but instead it was rushed and things were solved way to easily in about the last 10 minutes of the drama. Overall, slightly disappointing... | Reviewed by dekatrain on 18 March 2007 | 4. | Slow, tired, okay [Rating: 6/10] The middling reviews of this drama pretty much give an accurate idea of what's right and wrong with it. The first thing you notice about this is that, despite some good acting and production, it's so tired and slow; making it though to the next episode is a challenge because there's little to keep you watching. The next thing you notice is how cliche'd the plot line is - the kind of thing you've seen before, and often.
There are are few bright moments, but there's little in the way of humor to enliven things, and there's no real chemistry between any of the players. I'm a staunch fan of Haruka Ayase, who can be captivating in the right role; but here, she needs meatier material than the round of make-ups and break-ups. The whole thing got to be so predictable that I skipped to the end just to see how things turned out.
I'm glad I did. I was let down by the fact that there was so much promise to this drama, a promise that was for the most part unrealized. | Reviewed by jdoramadotcom on 23 February 2010 | 5. | I LOVE IT. not satisfied w/ the short happy ending [Rating: 9/10] i love this drama it made me feel so sad. there were so many twist and turns sometimes it made feel like i just want to punch someone, i love it lol. i didn't like the ending, personally i think the director wasn't intending to make the ending a happy one because it ws like 3 episodes of depression and about 5 mins of that little happy ending. if directed this i would've left it without a happy ending because it makes the story more memorable it would draw the audience's attention. if it was like this i would never get tired of watching it over and over again. this change in the story would have made it better. the result they never see each other again but they are still in love with each other. | Reviewed by kRhetoRik578 on 21 August 2009 | 6. | Not bad, predictable, but not bad. [Rating: 8/10] Honestly, if it weren't for my little sister egging me on to watch this, I would've been rewatching something like Long Vacation. xDD
But her egging was a good thing, in the end it was worth it. It was a little slow, sure, but really cute. Koki's side story was a nice little addition, too. His eye thing brought the overall show's rating by a .5, though, and Kame brought the show up by a point.
And I agree with the comment about his acting style a little like KimuTaku LOL.
If you're looking for a good drama to keep you constantly watching, then try again. But if you've run out of things to watch and you like cute cinderella stories, give it a try. ;D | Reviewed by giggle weed on 20 November 2007 | 7. | <3 ! Nao is so pretty and Kame was just "WOW" !
even if this is a basic - girl falls in love with guy, guy falls back in love with girl, some huge situation happens, they have to break up, then a while later, they meet and girl falls in love with guy again, and guy realizes he loves girl all along and falls back in love w/ her - story. i found it realllly touching at the end..
and i cried too, which is also unusual because i usually look like a statue when i watch things.

kame terrible act really ruin the drama. his expression is lacking and it seem that he is not really care about his love life.

| 1. | Comments by Di@na [Rating: 10/10] A poor boy fisher boy meets a rich girl from a wealthy family backround. They fall in love but their families are against their love relation ship. To make a long story short: Romeo and Juliet meets Cinderella Boy.
My opinion? A Wonderful and very romantic jdorama. Definitely one of the best of 2006. The chemistry between Kame and Ayase is so sweet and breath-taking. You believe them. You believe that they truely love each other. I am not such a huge fan of Ayase because even so she doesn't look fragile at all (she is quite tall and has a sexy curvy body), she still acts extremely fragile here and sometimes it's kinda annoying to watch. Her apperance just doesn't match her behaviour. On the other hand she shows her strong and powerful personality here and there (even though sometimes her charakter seems a litttle bit too SPOILED). So at the end she was not so bad. Kame is my favorite Johnnys Boy from the start so probably I can't be bias here. But it's one of his BEST acting performances. He is so manly and strong. Every each of his expressions took my breath away. Even if it was just the way he smoked. They way he talked to Ayase and the way he protected her, just everything was right on point.
About the story: I love rich + poor romance. I am a huge Bollywood fan and it's a common theme there. I think this dorama was adorable and I oved every episode. It wasn't boring OR repetitive at all. The most jdoramas get boring after 4-5 episodes because every episode seems similar to the previous one. But Tatta Hitotsu no Koi is different. Just lay back and enjoy the innocent, pure Romeo and Juliet romance. ;) | 2. | Comments by occultangle [Rating: 4/10] Pretty much total garbage. They gathered up a nice group of pretty faces, and didn't worry about anything else. I don't know if any one else noticed, or said it, but the whole thing is mostly a rip-off of the movie Titanic (even the music sounds the same), with other random cliched plot devices from every other J-drama thrown in half-heartedly to bad effect. There is major revelations like the main actress being sick, can't have children and may even die, but it has nothing to do with the plot other than allowing them to say it for dramatic effect. Even the characters are inconsistent, changing for whatever situation arises, like the younger brother being in a wheelchair, which is all serious for like two seconds, and then he's playing baseball, because, you know, he's feeling pretty good today. However, you will probably find at least one face pretty enough to stare at, and that will probably shut you up, but then they pull out the kitchen sink for the ending, at which point it's time for the whole can't be together, years pass, nonsense that is overdone in any drama and just plain stupid here. Regardless of how it is, a lot of people will still be suckered into watching this because of the cast, and so we can all look forward to more crap like this being made in the future. | 3. | Comments by Kitsuchi [Rating: 9/10] When I started watching this series, I thought it seemed interesting and typical. A relationship between a rich girl and a poor boy. I think this series was very touching. I liked Kame's expressions alot.. You can understand exactly what he's thinking even though he's supposed to have that "wall". I loved his small giggles all the time. Also, Ayase Haruka is a very good acter too. Sometimes, I don't get her expressions at all.. They were difficult to understand. But otherwise, there was no problems in acting. Both Haruka and Kame made a good couple.
The plot is exciting and the fact that Haruka had a sickness was good too, because it made you thinking and worrying about it.. Though, the ending wasn't the best.. Maybe a bit disappointing, I highly recommend this dorama anyway. I enjoyed watching it and really loved Kame in this. He has matured a lot. Also Koki is a very good acter, not to mention funny, though I think he needs more practice.. He's still got a long way to go to catch up to Kame.
Anyway, if it wasn't for the ending and some things which weren't solved.. This series would have full points. | 4. | Comments by dekatrain [Rating: 6/10] Pretty conventional love story - man without money falls in love with girl who has money, its been done a thousands times before...so what's so good about this drama? I continue watching it for the sake of Kame. But as the story goes on, it becomes better and better. So in the end, I give it 9. Usually, I can never accept the reason to break-up if they really love each other. But in this movie, it seems that I can understand why they must break up. It shows that Kame's character is really mature. It teaches us not to elope in such young age. Everything will be perfect if we can wait for more years. I'm glad that they eventually end up together.
And the soundtrack are perfect. The song can sometimes make me cry. A perfect combination for this movie. | 6. | Comments by mmyy [Rating: 6/10] The first few episodes were kinda fun to watch, eventhough it's such a cliche series. The music is simply beautiful. When things got more messy later, it became irritating as you realised just how many more cheesy plot devices they're going to throw at you. It's like watching a combination of every single love story you had ever seen in the past. As for the acting department, Kame was pretty okay though I think he's copying KimuTaku's style too much. He really needs to find his own special touch soon. Ayase was annoying. Koki was overreating. Toda Erika was just normal. Hiraoka Yuuta was the only one I really enjoyed watching here. | 7. | Comments by Lulurz [Rating: 5/10] can't we still come up with EVEN MORE old-fashioned plot and script?
this is definitely below average because it's DEJA-VU * 9999999 times
~~ and the ending is so ... forced~
Corny plots can be done well if the script is good~but then here.. i love romantic stories but there is no "touching" pts from this drama~ it's so .... dunno how to explain.. but superficial~
I pulled myself to finish it because my frend sed it's not bad ~ but i couldn't help but ffwd and watch 1 epi in 10 mins after epi 5~
and Kamenashi had a smaller frame than Ayase... wat's with that?? when they were mushy there was no spark | 8. | Comments by Sorata [Rating: 8/10] This dorama resembles Hana Yori Dango a lot, but instead of rich guy/poor girl itLs rich girl/poor guy, but IMO this is much much better than HYD, first the two main leads are much more enjoyable and the plot itself is not as boring or repetitive as HYD.
And the suport cast was good too with Toda Erika and Tanaka Koki, but my favorite character was Ayuta played by Hiraoka Yuuta, he was really funny and allways complaining about being the better looking one of the three but the only one who canLt get a girlfriend lol.
Good drama, some comedy and good acting; nothing outstanding but pretty enjoyable. | 9. | Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 6/10] Set in Yokohama, this is a classic love story between the rich girl & the poor guy. It's not only the music that'll bring your mind to "Titanic". It's a cute story, too cute sometimes, which follows the concept of a typical love story. It surely isn't a must see, but I didn't find it too bad either. I'm no fan of Ayase Haruka's acting but the rest of the cast's did fairly good. This role suited Kamenashi much better than the role as the goofy airhead that he did in "Sapuri".
Well, it's an ok love story, just don't expect it to be anything else. 6+ | 10. | Comments by Oba-chan [Rating: 6/10] Owww man, i just don't have a chemistry with this drama. The story, character, plot, and the ending are just plain. Kamenashi kazuya really dissapoint me, he once did his job really well in nobuta wo produce. The only two character that i like are Ayuta and Nao. The side story between Kou and Yuko was also really Plain, there's no explanation about their "Break Up". I don't have to comment anymore because anyone who gives this drama bad rating are on my side. Maybe Female Audience will like it.

The first time that I realize that kamenashi is copying kimutaku's acting! Shame on you. Haruka was so pretty in sekai no chuushin!! What happened to her, she became ugly, a face like a robot! And the other kat-tun guy, with short hair. He pisses me off sometimes. So ugly too, hide at home! Anyway, the drama has nothing original but it's in yokohama, nice scenery and its fresh! youth!
The song of kat-tun suits well. | 14. | Comments by DragonSpirit164 [Rating: 8/10] The first episode was so cheesy I'd thought it might actually ruin the whole drama for me, but from the 2nd episode onwards it actually becomes quite watchable. I quite like the Kamenashi and Ayase pairing, they make a very very adorable couple ^^. Almost all of the young romance cliches are in this drama, but I quite like the different direction the last 2 episodes took (or didn't take, for that matter..), despite the predictable ending. | 15. | Comments by Patazilla [Rating: 1/10] Sorry, but this is the only dorama I ever watched and really hated... xD~ I couldn't stand Nao's character and this pushing of problems, which seemed so unrealistic. They dramatisized everything and the characters were lousy... can't recommend at all. (really made me become aggressive towards the characters, the story, the music and everything - especially this stupid orange thingy Nao's always shaking from her balcony xD) | 16. | Comments by Phi [Rating: 3/10] The plot is way too unrealistic. Sometimes I felt like screaming cuz no one would act like Kame did in real life. They even screwed up the ending. Sorry, but sending a blink message once a year to the girl I desparately love when she's living that close to me?? The idea of a rich, naive girl falling in love with the bad guy? Maybe, but the way this drama tries to tell the fairy just sucks. Sorry Aya ;-( | 17. | Comments by Swedish_Japan_Lover [Rating: 10/10] I totally loved this drama.
Especially the rich girl - poor boy situation, it's so, revolutionary somehow! In this one I also opened my eyes for Hayase, she's actually a very good actress! Something that also made this drama worth its ten was the music, the environment (BOAT!! nya <33) and the music go very good toghether! And kame is a really good actor too! | 18. | Comments by rikastar [Rating: 6/10] A pretty conventional rich girl-poor boy love story with a dreamy and romantic feel that I get from Kitagawa Eriko's script. There's a slight melanchony and gloomy feel to the drama that makes me feel like not starting an episode sometimes, just because. Also, I kept waiting for a plot twist or some sort of climax in the storyline, but it never came. | 19. | Comments by atheon [Rating: 6/10] Jan 2007: Jdrama like this became boring once you watched enough amount love stories, even if it's written by Kitagawa Eriko (Long Vacation, Beautiful Life). However, some of the dialogues were quite meaningful, and I like the switching part of the characters from youngster to adult. The smoking scenes of the 3 main actors were irritating =x | 20. | Comments by aiscess [Rating: 7/10] This was really a nice love story but I just didn't like the pairing of Kame & Ayase. Acting wise, Ayase deserved a better lead actor. There wasn't really a chemistry between them, it felt like they just acted out their own roles. I can't seem to feel that connection. Good thing, there was a cute side story between Yuko and Ko. | 21. | Comments by jed_ka [Rating: 9/10] There are always conflicts zuwischen good and evil, or between rich people and poor people! All the characters in this drama are slighty boring and lack chemistry for me. | 24. | Comments by agp_frick [Rating: 9/10] (watched till the ep. 4 so far)
The story's really great, as expected from such a popular writer... I think one of the reason this drama is really great, besides a good strory, is the main casts... Kazuya Kamenashi and Haruka Ayase is really great in this drama... Looking forward to watch it again. | 25. | Comments by michimaru [Rating: 9/10] the first drama that i liked Ayase Haruka in (she was such a bitch in Sore wa...); and a different role for Kame that i'm not sure i like, but i don't dislike as well. filled with a great cast, the story grew on me and i thought it was a touching series overall. | 26. | Comments by yamada_taro [Rating: 9/10] This drama would have gotten full marks if it wasn't for the awful slow start. But the end was a bit too much unrealistic :D That's why I can't give 10 points but still like it. Also nice characters. The best about the series might be Kame. Love him <3 | 30. | Comments by HHND [Rating: 8/10] Another classic love story, though the storyline isn't fresh I like the little details and the supporting characters that make it a strong drama in my opinion. Touching story about love, but also family, and especially friendship. |

I think the drama was quite realistic. | 2. | Yola A sweet love story and what I found especially pleasing was, that there was no useless drama because of stupid misunderstandings between the main characters. | 3. | cheery Old love story about the rich and poor. However never fails to touch me with the story as it continues and with an unexpected ending. | 4. | venusling Definately an under-rated drama. The love story of the drama is beautiful and meaningful. Hope more people watch this series. | 5. | Faithmemory This is my 2nd favorite drama!!! i love the story and the settings... also the background songs!
