Quruli, Nakatani Miki, Fuji Fabric to name just a few. The basic storyline is pretty cool too - 30 year old loser suddenly becomes popular, and the women he meets are more than ready to spice up his life. Aki, who is older and likes him but plays stupid games and can't be honest, Natsuki who is perfect in his eyes but just sleeps with anyone to mend a broken heart, Itsu who is in love with his best friend, as well as his yankee friend Naoko from high school and now love coach to Moteki. Great stuff and quite realistic in its portrayal of relationships between men and women. Glimpses into Moteki's inner world are great for comic relief. There is a movie, which wraps up the story nicely. |

Rather than rehashing one or two songs across the series it throws 4-5 new songs at you in each episode. I found myself looking up every artist. The characters felt very real. Yukiyo's inner monologue is hilarious. The relationships were all messy...in a good way. From ep1 you know this won't be a generic journey of growth. The 30min format kept things moving. I could go on, but you get the idea! |
3. | Comments by dekatrain [Rating: 8/10] What should've been a by-the-numbers J-drama turned out to be a very interesting portrayal of male/female relationships, due primarily to the quality of acting - Mirai Moriyama is perfectly cast as your average joe, with a sound supporting cast including Rinko Kikuchi (Oscar Winner from "Babel") and Hikari Mitsushima ("Love Exposure) among others such as Arai and Nonami. The other strong point is the music, which strays away from the usual J-POP fanfare, and turns towards indie classics. |
4. | Comments by Ezalor [Rating: 8/10] In spite of the obviously idiotic, but comical plot, this is a pretty good dorama. At first, I did not want to watch this because of the plot, but it is so self-ironical that it is a pleasure to watch. Note also the much, much better movie MOTEKI starring an irresistable Nagasawa Masami and a much denser atmosphere. Very cool soundtrack. |
5. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 8/10] Way better than I expected! Funny and realistic with an excellent cast. Moriyama perfect as Yukio and the four women, Nonami, Mitsushima, Matsumoto and Kikuchi were great. Mitsushima stood out more than the others IMO. |
6. | Comments by Sambalici [Rating: 6/10] Starts promising but it becomes annoying after a while. I didn't like the ending either. Music is good though. |
