Rumiko (Ryou) plays Shinji's girlfriend. Sasaki (Morimoto) is Senna's professor at college and is always encouraging Senna to perform at the next piano competition. long vacation is about sena hidetoshi (kimura takuya), a pianist who can't express his feelings, and minami (yamaguchi tomoko), a model who isn't really popular. | Duncan |

!!WARNING!! The review section may contain spoilers! Please understand that you may find out about this drama's endings and plots!
| 1. | A Brilliant Love Story [Rating: 10/10] I donft know how to start this review, so let me highlight some of my favourite moments:
The very last scene of Episode 8 when Sena watches Minami walk away after saying goodbyec gosh! This one scene alone establishes the love he feels for her, and how lonely life will be like without her. Itfs no longer about their age difference, or their current situations. Itfs about the lack, yet need, of and for each other. Itfs the small things like this that make this drama a cut above the others.
For example, although you never hear Sena play the piano completely (until you get near the end of the drama), you are totally convinced that he loves it. Or the look he gets in Episode 9 when Minami plays a song for him on the piano, and his tears start to fallc you just donft need the words to convince you. The answers are all in the eyes of the characters.
The script in this show was AMAZING! Very good writing. I mean, the conversation Minami and Sena have about their relationship a day or two after they make love seemed so real and unscripted. It was painful to watch because it seemed so raw. I was completely convinced that I was playing the voyeur in a very intimate scene | thatfs how real it was.
There are parts, like in the middle of the series, when the pacing gets a bit too slow and an episode or two passes without anything really happening. But itfs not until the end when you realize just how important these empty episodes are, because although there is very little action, they represent the passing of timec time in which feelings start to blossom.
Ifve always been a fan to Kimurafs, but Ifve now become a hardcore of fan of Yamaguchi Tomoko as well. So much so, that Ifve started downloading another drama just because shefs in it! Ifve also fallen in love with Yutaka. Ifve seen Inamori Izumi in Pretty Girls, and she plays a similar role in this drama, but she was the perfect gwiseh comic relief. Her answering machine messages made me laugh until my stomach hurt.
All-in-all, this was an amazing drama and highly recommended. | Reviewed by Wynter on 1 February 2007 | 2. | Starts out with a crawl but sprints to the end [Rating: 8/10] It goes without saying that this particular one is perhaps the most hyped about Japanese drama there ever was, so it's rather difficult for me not to harbour very high expectations with unskeptical eyes.
Eriko Kitagawa's script seems to bring the characters alive, creating uncontrived dialogues that make it seem like the characters are real friends who are having real conversations. The infusion of pop-cultural references that were prevalent in the 90's is a great touch, and I love the opening theme.
Tomoko Yamaguchi did the best she could with her boisterous and annoying character and while I'm not really a fan of Takuya Kimura's, his insecure and timid character is rather endearing and perhaps many young guys now can still relate to his struggles and revelations.
I have to echo some reviewers here who stated that the drama is rather slow-paced and there are many times where I just went 'Why is the story going in circles?' or 'When is something exciting going to happen instead of just listening to their endless ramblings?'. There are also many random stuff happening in the drama that don't flow too well. The ending is indeed satisfying and memorable, but only for the leads, as the drama leaves out many unresolved loose ends for the supporting characters.
The drama is fun to watch however, with memorable and comical characters that drive this drama. Worth-watching but this humble viewer thinks it's very overrated. | Reviewed by Mint on 20 May 2008 | 3. | Top talent in a decent drama [Rating: 9/10] For about six episodes, the drama is hit and miss - but once the chemistry between the actors works out, we end up with an engaging story framed by romance and music. And there's nothing wrong with a happy ending.
Individual performances highlight the story. Although she appears in only a few episodes, young Ryoko Hirosue is commanding as a strong pianist whose own future is both promising and uncertain. Takuya Kimura is a soft-spoken pianist who, unconvinced of his abilities, contemplates quitting the instrument entirely. Tomoko Yamaguchi is an energetic former model who somehow manages to inspire hope in her friends - though her own romantic history is spotty. While the pacing is deliberate, it's quite pleasing as it draws to its finish.
I'm not completely convinced by certain elements, but overall, it's quite enjoyable, with a contrasting group of characters. The script doesn't have any antagonists; it's just a sampling of people who gradually work at their flaws. | Reviewed by jdoramadotcom on 4 December 2010 | 4. | Entertaining [Rating: 7/10] This show is really entertaining and has a superb cast.My personal fave is Yutaka, with his bearded look he simply lights up the screen whenever he appears. The story, well, can be said to be one of its kind in its era,but I guess I will enjoy it more if other doramas don't use the same plot over and over again, which kinda makes this show look...well...plain if you don't watch it first. However, that's not neccesarily a bad thing as a quite similiar drama to Long Vacation,Overtime, has bettered it.Takuya's acting is still the same, totally no changes in whichever drama he acts in,Though he is still comfortable to look at,it can be kinda a drag at times.(heaved a huge sigh of relief when I saw him in HERO,finally some changes). The music is good, but I think it's over-hyped.In conclusion,I still think this drama does stand out from the rest and it's worth the $. | Reviewed by GunGod on 15 June 2001 | 5. | One of the Best [Rating: 9/10] I know everyone loves this Drama and I feel the same way.
The story was very simple and beautifully portrayed by Tomoko and Takuya. Tomoko was and still remains one of the best actresses ever for Jdorama's. Every song in the drama was very well selected and created a great upbeat atmosphere for the show. What made the Drama for me was that it did not seem like they we acting at all, everything seemed to flow so naturally. And I have to give props to the rest of the cast too, they all did an amazing job portraying their characters. My only grip would be to Takako, She seemed a bit to innocent to me, I guess there are girls out there that dont have their first kiss until 23 or 24 but I find it hard to believe a character as beautiful would wait that long. Anybody that likes Jdorama's you have to see this one, it is not a choice, you must watch it. | Reviewed by duckboat on 10 October 2006 | 6. | My favorite Jdorama of all time. [Rating: 10/10] Long Vacation remains to this day my favorite Jdorama of all time. The story, the cast, the OST, the pop culture influence it created - it is simply a classic. The story is simply but very moving and certain scenes left a deep impression on me, especially the conversations between Sena and Minami. Long Vacation is an apt title to describe where the main characters are at - it's about the period of time when people come at a crossroad and they're lost about what to do with themselves. The chemistry between Takuya Kimura and Tomoko Yamaguchi is simply spectacular and untoppable. Tomoko makes her character very fascinating with her bursts of energetic intensity and moments of vulnerability. Takuya shows his true depth as an actor here with his touching portrayal of Sena. Two thumbs WAY UP! | Reviewed by shanghai_honey on 26 September 2005 | 7. | worth your time [Rating: 10/10] Great Story::
The story is all about life, love, and relationships. All of the lives were intertwined with each other which makes for interesting interactions between the characteres... the love match-ups kept me guessing until the very end.
Great Acting:
Yamaguchi (Minami) steals this show. Her acting was very believable, real and natural.
Kimura (Senna) fits the role of the loner pianist perfectly.
The hidden "gems" in this show were::
Inamori (Momoko) was hilarious!!! She has the best facial expressions!!
Hirosue Ryoko, although a small part, was such a stand out that I ended up watching another of her dramas (Summer Snow) and now I'm a fan :)
In Summary:
A great show you can watch over and over... for the laughs and the beautiful faces. My favorite jdorama!!! | Reviewed by jondy78 on 13 March 2004 | 8. | An amazing surprise [Rating: 9/10] I wasn't quite keen on watching this series but am really glad I finished it. The storyline is pretty straightforward but the character development of Sena and Minami is flawless. The acting is superb all round too, especially Takuya Kimura and Tomoko Yamaguchi. I thought they were perfectly casted for their roles. This is one of the best dramas I've watched (Beautiful Life is still no.1, IMO). There isn't much action (unlike Seikei Bijin where there's always something interesting going on). This series mainly revolves around the relationship of the 6 main characters. Can get quite draggy at times (which is why I didn't give a 10) but overall, still a good watch.
Great soundtrack too! I wanna download all the songs! | Reviewed by hugefan on 16 October 2004 | 9. | Need we say more? [Rating: 10/10] This is a classic. Regardless of what others had said, it has the best soundtrack in all Japanese dramas. And the setting is wonderful. Every character stands out in this drama and many people have watched it umpteen times. This is the only drama I feel which brings together the best of the actors in Japan. Yamaguchi, Takuya,Yutaka, Ryoko and all. And the wonderful theme song. The great mood created throughout the whole drama due to the fabulous acting as well as the music. Great chemistry between Takuya and Yamaguchi. Don't miss it if u call urself a japanese drama fan. | Reviewed by takuyee on 10 January 2002 | 10. | great storyline, great theme song [Rating: 9/10] one of my favourite parts of the dorama was the opening song by toshi. :D i didn't really think much of kimura takuya at first, but now he's got to be one of my favourite actors :) yamaguchi tomoko was also really funny! i loved the whole storyline, except that at one time minami seemed to like sena, then after meeting tetsuya she did not seem to like sena in that way anymore. sorta weird.
i didn't expect this drama to be that good, but turns out that i didn't get bored with any episode; i watched every single minute of it, something not many dramas can make me do. :D | Reviewed by PepperGreen on 16 August 2008 | 11. | Great drama [Rating: 10/10] Long vacation is a great drama. The fact that i'm watching it now, 12 years after it was released and still enjoying thoroughly says so much about how this drama is indeed a timeless one. I've watched many dramas centering around romance but i must say none of it is as well done as this drama. Everything about this drama is wonderfully done, from the casting to the acting and the music. The plot is great and the pace is just right. It is not to slow moving yet tells enough of the story. And of course, Kimura Takuya as sena was wonderful.
Really great drama | Reviewed by maidori on 20 September 2008 | 12. | A Great Drama [Rating: 10/10] This is a fabulous drama with a rich storyline and excellent acting. It creates such an interest in the character you feel like youn want life to work out for them so much that your heart will break if it doesn't end happily. Along with Pride it is my favorite Kimura Takuya drama who is simply a great actor, not just an incredibly handsome man. He play so many different roles with such believability that you feel he has become his character. The music is also quite beautiful and the ending is really nice. Don't miss it, it's great!!!!! | Reviewed by nickpoliseno on 19 October 2005 | 13. | Hardly any classical music [Rating: 6/10] I was a little disappointed in this drama because I thought it would have classical music in it. I find it very odd that they made the main character a pianist, but all the time he just played music that was probably written for the drama. If they wanted to play pop music, they should have made him a guitarist or something.
Story is OK, but there seemed to be lots of threads and setups that were never followed through.
Pretty much just a chick flick romance.

| 1. | Comments by apple_grenade [Rating: 9/10] This is another love story which I highly recommend. I love most of everything about it. The script is marvelous, so is the OST and BGM. I also am totally in love with the central idea of a 'long vacation' i.e. god's way of telling you to take a break when EVERY SINGLE THING is not going your way. From the first scene we see Minami running down the street in her wedding garb, to all the tears and laughter, the philosophy, all the piano pieces! to the very end... *continues gushing* I love all the little moments. Snow that's pure and snow that's been trampled. How a tough person won't cry in front of others but can do so in front of 'furniture'. And what sort of a sweet guy is Sena, to eat paper just so he can spare Minami of more grief! In a way, you know how everything will end, but they keep you hanging enough to keep you guessing. At one point, I'd bet all my money on the photographer, for example. Great acting that made you roll on the floor laughing and made you teary-eyed along with them. In conclusion, a great drama for Kimura's resume and your collection. | 2. | Comments by kartanoman [Rating: 10/10] Wow! What a super dorama and a fantastic cast to pull off a series filled with humor, unpredictability, disappointment, misunderstandings and the ultimate reward of loyalty to the heart. Takuya Kimura is one of our favorite actors and his performance was outstanding as always. Another favorite, Takako Matsu, did well in her role as Ryoko and kept us wondering if she and Hidetoshi (Kimura's character) would ever come together. It was also nice to see another favorite of ours - a young Ryoko Hirosue as a gifted piano student. The leading role (Minami), played by Tomoko Yamaguchi, was performed outstandingly! This was the first time we've seen Tomoko and the way she played the oftentimes annoying and pestering Minami won our hearts hands down. The storyline was excellent and highlighted by the emotionally powerful performance of Hidetoshi Senna in the music contest ... but did Minami actually make it to the concert hall to hear it? Watch the dorama for the answer! Finally, enjoyed the dorama's theme "La La La Love Song!" | 3. | Comments by phlargo [Rating: 7/10] Good drama... got much better as it went on. Really boring first third in my mind.
I think the real gems were hidden in the structure: some of the side characters were really fun dramatic explorations more than they were full characters. Momoko was great for this! What a weird device she was - much more a toy for the writer/director than a character in the show, really..
Most of the commentary was pretty surfacey, nothing overly deep here. Yamaguchi Tomoko stood out much more than Kimura Takuya (who was much better in Beautiful Life, in my opinion). Her character was really a pleasure to watch and interact with through the drama.
I think the discussion of Ryoko's innocence was kinda fun too. She was otherwise forgettable. | 4. | Comments by jo [Rating: 7/10] WAS ranked no.1 here in the TOP 50, and I read some comments about this drama, so I thougt this was going to surpass my expectation built by LOVE GENERATION, sorry but I was disappointed. Tomoko was great, but I thought this drama was an average. Boring at times. If you are reading this, this is an unbiased comments, I am a big fan of Kimura Takuya, Matsu Takako, Yutaka, Tomoko, and Izumi, so I would never say anything bad about their acting, but the story was kinda slow and it really disappoint me, BIG TIME. Thought it would be more SUPERB because of the casting. The writer of this story did a poor job. Watch it or buy it, it's all up to you. You have been warned. Good collection though for Kimura Takuya and Matsu Takako fans. | 5. | Comments by Shouryuuken [Rating: 8/10] The one that made Kimutaku famous.... or so its said. Even though other than him I was not familiar with the cast, I thoroughly enjoyed this nice little drama. The characters are played well and even though there is somewhat of an age gap between the two main characters, the storyline was convincing while not allowing the relationship to develop a sort of old woman goes out with far younger men type feel. The plot is well worked such that even until the last episode, the watcher is left wondering who will end up with whom.
As I play the piano myself, it was nice to see a very well written 'Ryoko-chan' character whose delicate and indecisive emotional state resembled a few of my near-virtuoso-level musician friends. :P | 6. | Comments by Sakebitosan [Rating: 7/10] Excellent, classy, elegant, values-driven romance, if a bit predictable. Great chemistry between the Senna and Minami characters too, without which it wouldn't have worked. There's not as much emphasis on the music in this one as in "With Love," though music is central to the story, but that chemistry (which was lacking between HaTa and TeruTeruBozu in "With Love,") more than makes up for it. The climactic piano performance has got to be a masterpiece of editing within doramas - it reminds me of the climactic scenes of Beethoven's youth that were interwoven with the 9th Symphony in the film "Immortal Beloved." Time well spent, definitely. | 7. | Comments by strawberrynkiwi [Rating: 9/10] i haven't been able to finish this drama yet. for some reason i couldn't get pass the first couple of episode... hopefully one day i will get the chance to finish it

Yamaguchi Tomoko portrays a kind of an adorable loser, dumped the day of her wedding, an ageing model unable to find new contracts, broke and naive but overall eager to be loved.
Kimura Takuya is as grumpy as usual in the role of a sensitive young pianist who has to cope with a turbulent new roomate...and unexpected feelings.
Secondary cast is also fine, except for the horrifying Inamori Izumi, or at least her character who was insufferable.
It's a well written love story which I enjoyed quite much and despite the not so surprising ending I spent quality time ;) | 9. | Comments by yijing [Rating: 10/10] my all time favourite...watched it at least 5 times...& mind u...it's contineously...opps...? haha...i really love the plot, chemistry & acting...personally i think Tomoko's acting is much better than Kimura as i was noticing her more than Kimura...but then i guess Kimura's role was meant to be more subtle...anyway i really like the way they encourage each other & grow to live each other...they know they love each other not because their heart races when they're together but because they're comfortable with each other...they're at their best & themselves when they're together, nothing to hide...shouldn't love be like that? | 10. | Comments by Lucian Dureau [Rating: 10/10] This was my first dorama I watched, so it's normal to say that this one is my favorite. Furthermore, the story, the cast, the music, all is excellent in this dorama. Besides to this, it was a great example of the doramas of the 90's, when the japanese pop culture didn't have too much influence on them yet. It's impossible not to feel something for Tomoko Yamaguchi's character, or understand the pain of the different characters due to their pertinent unrequited loves. However the most astonishing thing I saw here was one of the most passionate kisses I have ever seen in a Dorama. Absolutely recommended! | 11. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 10/10] A classic drama that shouldn't be missed. Kimura Takuya again shines in "Long Vacation" where he plays the memorable character, Sena who falls in love with an older woman, an ex-model who happens to show up at his door one fine morning. The chemistry between the two characters was great and I loved how it portrayed the struggles that each of them had to go through in their respective careers. Ie. Sena having trouble "making it" in the piano world while Minami was having trouble finding modeling jobs since she was getting old. However, the two of them somehow make it through together. Highly recommended. | 12. | Comments by KusMoG_X [Rating: 10/10] La la la laaa Looove Sooong~! Probably my most favorite drama I've ever seen. Incredible cast all virtually in the beginning stages of their acting career. The characters are what really hit this drama out the park for me. They have great chemistry with one another, and there's really no "villain". Minami starts off really annoying but so charming that you can't really hate her. The intro is very nice; it reminds me of like a Japanese-version of "Friends" and the theme song is one of the catchiest I've ever heard for a drama. Truly an entertaining classic love story with a little bit of everything. | 13. | Comments by nadrika [Rating: 5/10] I am of the opinion that this drama is way overrated. Didn't really enjoy it. Couldn't feel the two main leads. Even made me really dislike the main actor and i still do. Or perhaps i really am not into love stories per se.
Watched this in the mid-90s on local TV so my memory of it is quite hazy. The saving grace was of course Shinji's scenes. What a wacky character.
Bought the VCD set but with so many dramas to watch, there's never time to rewatch this to give it another chance perhaps to change my opinion about it. But thinking of the two main lead characters really puts me off. | 14. | Comments by jdfan [Rating: 10/10] One of my all time favorites. A lot of fun and very refreshing, with loveable and funny characters. No self-pity around here, just positive attitude and a loud message 'Live your life !' A very good thing with J-dorama is once again: the amazingly cool soundtrack. The ending was no surprise! Typical Kimura type character and Yamaguchi's character could drive people crazy!! Her character will stay with you for a while. The sound track is simply great and I have the 3 CDs version in my collection. Good romantic plot, amazing cast and good music, just can't beat this combination. | 15. | Comments by ؓގq [Rating: 10/10] OH MY GOSH! I just finished this drama and I loved it! In all honesty, out of all the jdrama's I have watched with KimuTaku in it, he was the least so-called "attractive" in this one. This is because he played an unmotivated pianist who in my primary perception had a lack of social skills! The lead character was bright and quirky and I loved her. When she started changing Sena and vise versa their character's became more and more interesting. I was rooting for them to get together the whole time and I thought this drama was amazing! It taught me some things about life :-) | 16. | Comments by Swedish_Japan_Lover [Rating: 8/10] A bit too emotionless. They dragged it out for too long at the end when they could have skipped one or two episodes. Sena was boring, Minami was very funny! I loved the way she acted and it was entertaining to watch even though it wasn't supposed to be amusing all the time. I wonder why old dramas contain a lot more ecchi stuff than modern ones. Im not saying this contained a lot, but at least they were REAL kisses and not "CHU"-ish like in the new ones. So thumbs up for that. In the end, I specifically want love in a drama, and I got it from this one. | 17. | Comments by SunnyDoll [Rating: 10/10] I swear this is the best jap drama I have ever watched so far. Think I have watch it 3 times and I am still not sick of it! I discovered takuya on this drama too and found out how talented he is! Wat makes this show so enjoyable is the good acting by both the main actor and actress. The actress really played out her character veri well. I was hooked onto this drama from the first epsiode to the last one! In the end I even bought the vcds. HHaha... wanna try out jap drama?! This is the first drama to watch and get u started! MUST MUST get it ..... ;) | 18. | Comments by Susan [Rating: 9/10] It's been awhile since I watch an older drama. Despite the fact that this drama is more than decade old now it shows its age very little, except in the fashions, hairstyles, etc. Kimura Takuya has aged very well, for one, and he could play the role of Sena now just as he did then! I enjoyed him the most in this drama for sure. I would have skipped this drama if I had not been watching it with a group of friends. I'm glad I did! I enjoyed the more mature themes and views of love and marriage. It was very refreshing to see adults acting like adults! | 19. | Comments by yanie_chan [Rating: 9/10] One of the best drama of the decade! How can I not love this one?? But, for me...there are some things missing. It's a great story, alright! Reeaaally love the opening credits(matched very well with the COOL themesong! Which is one of my favorite DORAMA themesong), love the cheerful & bright atmosphere, and the relationship between the characters are just great. It's just Takuya and Tomoko lack on chemistry...their love story is just blur(i dunno how to describe), but it just don't hit you, y'know! Oh, well...still like it, anyway!^_^

The model friend was a tad annoying, but overall, the characters were very tangible and unique in their own ways. Sena's shy and tender character brings warmth to the drama and Minami's sass brings humour and liveliness to the drama's somewhat slow pace. Of course, some of the most memorable moments are when these two are together. The final scene was one of my favorite.
BTW- Long Vacation has a kick-ass OST. | 21. | Comments by yuka [Rating: 9/10] The young and attractive stars that form the main cast are the irresistible magnetic draw. A fluffy romance to be enjoyed as is. Kimurafs shyness is so endearing that one could not help but root for him in his romantic overtures either toward Matsu or Yamaguchi. Because he is just as well-matched with Matsu and Yamaguchi too, it offers a somewhat gbite-the-nailsh intrigue to the development of their relationships. For the older women especially, the fairy tale ending is one big longing happy sighc | 22. | Comments by godai-san [Rating: 8/10] This dorama was widely proclaimed as one of the best doramas of all time (along with GTO) but when I was first watched it, I was like HUH? Maybe it was a victim of hype. Don't get me wrong, I liked it alot. This love story about two people at a crossroads in their lives was very relaxed and easy-going; no big roller-coasters or huge, complicated triangles here. Watching it was like taking a LONG VACATION. I will agree with the majority of fans who love the music. The soundtrack & theme song were awesome. | 23. | Comments by poopiefish [Rating: 8/10] Didn't think that I would like it (not really a fan of romance stories), but it turned out to be very touching. My heart goes jittery as I witness the love tension between the two main characters. Thanks to the thorough character development, you experience a sense of attachment to the characters. The actors brought out amazing chemistry with never over-the-board acting. It keeps you wishing them a good ending from the bottom of your heart. As a simple love story, this one was perfectly executed. | 24. | Comments by dokaben [Rating: 10/10] I was always skeptical of early/mid-90s dramas. Most of the ones I tried watching were unfunny, predictable, and poorly written. Long Vacation blew away that stereotype. The writing is natural, smart, and quite funny. The characters are complex and believable. The dynamic between Senna and Minami is so perfect you almost wish they could continue forever as friends without the complexities of romance. So well written and acted you'll even excuse the cheap Ben Folds Five plugs! | 25. | Comments by madsky [Rating: 5/10] I have mixed feelings. This drama was disappointing, not nearly as good as I had imagined, but maybe I just had high hopes - many people raved about it. I found many parts boring and hard to get through, but I have to admit there were just as many parts where I got into it. I didn't see myself caring whether the main characters ended up together or not, not as much as I usually do in these kind of dramas anyway. Nonetheless, the acting is good, and I suppose it's worth a watch. | 26. | Comments by catcat [Rating: 9/10] a well written romantic drama that stars kimura takuya as a pianist and yamaguchi tomoko as a model who was getting too old for her job. also starring matsu takako as the girl kimura likes who was also a pianist, takenouchi yutaka as yamaguchi's little brother who later dates matsu, ryo as takenouchi's girlfriend, inamori izumi as yamaguchi's best friend and hirosue ryoko as one of kimura's students. a must see for those who enjoy romantic dramas. | 27. | Comments by yamete_evie [Rating: 9/10] You can see why this drama is so popular. Yamaguchi Tomoko lights up the screen, and Kimura as the geeky piano teacher is adorable. Love the long conversations between Yamaguchi and Kimura. The writing of this drama is excellent. Matsu Takako and Takenouchi Yutaka also play good roles in this drama, a more refined Matsu and Yutaka as "Animal Shinji". I also have to mention Yamaguchi's model friend who is hilarious and great comic relief. | 28. | Comments by aleen84 [Rating: 10/10] I think most of you must have watched Long Vacation. This dorama is rated number two (after Tokyo Love Story) of Most Favourite Dorama .I think what makes me interested on watching (and buying) this series was I want to know the progress of relationships between Minami and Sena. Eventhough it turns out as everyone has predicted, the fight, laugh and tears on reaching it is the most important. Oh yeah, the piano sounds is very nice too. | 29. | Comments by koalabear [Rating: 9/10] Very touching. The first time I watched it, I was disappointed. This could have been due to the hype or it could have been due to the fact that I started 9pm on a Friday night and finished watching approx 6am or so on the Sat morning after turning down invites from friends...... perhaps too tired to enjoy. On a second watch, I loved it. I loved the acting, the piano, Minami, Sena .... it was all just so sweet and touching. | 30. | Comments by zileas [Rating: 9/10] Rocksolid series with one of the best soundtracks I've encountered in the dramaworld. Great acting and interaction by most characters, and the depiction of the lead female character is an instant classic. The drama has many small shining moments just because of her. Nice balance in series between serious and funny moments. Often both combined splendidly. Overall a very enjoyable series with a bit of everything. Must-see. |

1. | Organized Chaos Long vacation...I can't begin to say how great this dorama was. Where to start? As far as I know this is probably the most popular dorama I have ever seen. It's viewship was in the 30s. When I think of doramas, right away I think of Long Vacation. First of all, its what got me back into watch doramas again. The chemistry between Minami and Sena was excellent and I cried in the last few episodes! (and I hardly cry for TV shows) If I had one chance to buy a dorama right now, it would definitely be Long Vacation, hands down. :) | 2. | yuka The young and attractive stars that form the main cast are the irresistible magnetic draw. Senna, a pianist who has yet to make a hit in Tokyo has a chance meeting with Minami, a model whose age is threatening her to retire from the business. Through many ups and downs in both romance and occupation, the two of them become closer. A sweet love story about a younger man and an older woman relationship. Definitely very memorable.
If you liked this, you may want to try "Boku Dake no Madonna" which has a similar type of theme. | 4. | eosforo ILm afraid I can not say what exatcly it brings to the point of being one of the my fav ones, but Long Vacation is so... well dosed, yeah, I guess itLs just like this. ItLs really rare for me not complaining about the ending tending to be too dramatic, or right the opposite, but this one shines at the top. Minami-chan will really get you by the ankles, laughing and saying, 'man, sheLs sooooo nice' ! | 5. | maidori i have watched so many kimura takuya dramas that you think i would be sick of him...but omg i seriously think you can never get enough of him...kimura takuya as sena in long vacation is incredible. the whole drama is wonderful. after watching the drama in two days, i am left wanting more. one of the best drama i've watched thus far.. really great story and will recommend it to anyone | 6. | yuko^ this is another brilliant classic by brilliant cast, namely, kimura takuya and yamaguchi tomoko. what can i say, honestly, at first i couldn't understand why everybody loves this drama and call it a classic, but as i repeatedly watch it and understand it, and wif kimura and yamaguchi's fine and expert acting skills, i began to see why, a brilliant classis that cannot b missed. | 7. | for3vergirl Actually I didn't like this one when I first watched it. I always wondered why ppl liked this story so much, until I watched again for the second time. I think it taught people a lesson on how to love someone and how certain people hurts another person's feeling even when they didn't realize that they did it. I love Kimura Takuya's last piano performance, it was terrific. | 8. | kumukurukuk I love this drama, this is the very first kimutaku drama I watched and I really enjoyed it, the story is simple yet sweet. I also loved how takenouchi yutaka is in this drama. the cast acted very well. Its funny and touching at the same time. Kimutaku is a great actor, I just love his subtle actions and oh my god the ending was great, I wished i was minami | 9. | kimurababe the may-december love plot has been done and redone, but long vacation takes the cake for being the best ever! it's also great to see a young takuya kimura and takako matsu in this charming tale of love lost-and-found again in the most unusual places and with the most unsual persons (you'll get my point after knowing who takuya and takako end up with!). | 10. | celest8787 wonderful! takuya kimura is really suave here, with lots of charisma when he's playing the piano...an interesting match with the older yamaguchi tomoko! i thought it'll be a mismatch initially coz of the rather wide age gap, but i was pleasantly surprised! you can see for yourself and i'm sure you'll understand what i mean... =) | 11. | obmik This is dorama at it's finest.. A+ cast (kimitaku, matsu, takenouchi) great story, and not sure how it's filmed but it certainly looks different than the filming of any other dorama. the music is really really cool, one of the best soundtracks for a show ever.. loved all the piano music as well.. oh and matsu looks damn cute. | 12. | Longman Long Vacation is my No. 1 drama of all time!! There's excellent chemistry between Kimura and Yamguchi in their roles as reluctant lovers. The story is at once light-hearted, sweet and yet bitter. My soft-spot for romantic piano pieces has its way thanks to the very beautiful "Close to you". This show is an absolute classic!! | 13. | chyra a classic, as said by many, with kimura san and yamaguchi san, a great pair, bringing us this classic. kimura depicts a pianist with a lousy character really, cowardly and useless, depicts yamaguchi san as a outgoing and loud lady, a great pair? this is also a beautiful older woman and yonger man lover story. this is a MUZ C | 14. | ren1999 The entire soundtrack including the hit "La, La, La Love Song." Minami played by Yamaguchi Tomoko. She was annoying yet lovable at the same time which makes you fall in love with her. The chemistry between her and Sena played by Kimura Takuya is really good. The story is really good and keeps you guessing and wishing. | 15. | Ryo_San Loved it!!!!! Even though he gets dump by Matsu in this drama. The storyline is still great. He tells Tomoko that he will never fall in love with a girl older then him. But as time goes on I guess feelings get stronger. The only thing i didnt like about Takuya in this drama is that he was WAY to nice. | 16. | tzanth I LOVED this drama! I dont want do ruin anything for people who havent watched it, but there was a time during this drama that i was so excited that i ran into my roomates room and jumped up and down while runing in circles. Im sure he thinks im crazy, but i dont care! this is an awsome drama! | 17. | Shindou A tremendous all-round drama with a very strong cast, excellent choice of music, and an enjoyable storyline. Scenes were very tastefully and artistically done giving the drama a high quality feel. Reminds me somewhat of Orange Days (another one of my favourites) and definitely a masterpiece. | 18. | hiroshi 10/10 Excellent script and especially strong performances by Yamaguchi (Minami), Kimura (Sena), and Inamori-san (Momoko). Thought that Yamaguchi was just excellent!! And the soundtrack is terrific ... made the series that much more enjoyable. thoroughly enjoyed the series .. start to finish!! | 19. | kawaii_antisocial I'm a big fan of great love stories, the piano and Kimura Takuya :). I love this drama so much that I've watched it 3 times all the way through. The acting is great, the story is wonderful and addicting as well and what's more it has an awesome soundtrack. Don't miss it. It's a nice treat. | 20. | dys199 This was one of the first doramas that I had ever seen and it is still one of the best ones I have ever seen. Takuya is so cute in this one and there is amazing chemistry between the two leads. Takenouchi is also great too. This one is a must watch for those people who never seen it yet. | 21. | effronterie I thought GTO rocked (it *still* does), but this one rocked harder! :) I *love* the chemistry between takuya and tomoko, i could even feel the sparks jumping offscreen even with my crappy copy of the drama! I love the music too. I've watched this 3times in the last 2 weeks :D | 22. | ArcAngelo88 Such a great cast, excellent music, wonderful chemistry. Overall a drama that makes you feel good all over. This is the all-time best feel-good drama. Watch it, watch it and watch it. It will move your heart so much and send you on a nice long vacation as well. | 23. | Angel2001 Strong cast. Excellent acting. Takuya, even in the early stage of his acting career, showed how he could bring to "life" the emotions and aspirations of a young, shy and aspiring pianist. The supporting cast was very strong. Excellent script and directing. | 24. | Ladd The best JDorama I've ever seen ... the actor and actress ... storyline ... last but not least the OST ... especially Hinata Rhapsody Number 1 Opus 38 played by Senna "Kimu-Taku" Hidetoshi which is dedicated to Minami Hayama ... how so sweet and touchy ... | 25. | extravale THE romantic drama. Takuya is so perfect for this role. I was in awe at the story, the theme song is wonderful and music score is wonderful as well. It gave me the same feelings of watching the Maison Ikkoku anime, so U too have to watch it. now :) | 26. | oorono Excellent series, real classic of j-dorama. The lead actress Tomoko Yamaguchi may be is the best Japanese actress in her generation. It's a pity that she abandoned her career because of marrige. Young Takuya Kimura is also superb in these series. | 27. | alpha22 I absolutely love this drama, and when I watched it long ago on local television, I was mesmerized by the OST. The romance between the two leads as well as the underlying theme of the story makes this whole drama a satisfying one to watch. | 28. | carie_akanishi Greatest dorama of all time!!! Incredible cast and chemistry between the actors, touching storyline and unforgettable lines, and the best soundtrack ever... Everything about it is superb, especially the opening part. Takuya's no.1 work. | 29. | MissMonika Absolutely fabulous! This drama's one of the best ones I have seen. Kimutaku is shining in this. The chemistry between Sena and Minami is great. All the actors were superb and the story is really catchy. Really enjoyed watching this. | 30. | Tu_triky Great acting! Great story. Great drama. The quintessential drama for many, and sure to be considered one of the best dramas of all time. It's just too good to pass up! I watched it again after many, many years. It's STILL dope! |
