I�fm not at all surprised that this drama won awards for Best Casting and Best Screenwriter, among others.
The storyline is very simple. Two very different guys meet and embark on a journey to find their own dreams, while living and breathing the ocean during a fateful summer. The plot for each episode is sometimes not evident, and I�fm not even sure if anything ever really happens�c but what makes this drama so great is the way the characters develop. I was hooked with the very first episode. By the second, I was already breathing with the characters. Everything about this drama is so real and raw.
The actors and actresses aren�ft acting. They�fre being. Sorimarchi Takashi was absolutely brilliant, and Takenouchi Yutaka was so honest and truthful. Hirosue Ryoko, whom I�fve only ever enjoyed in Summer Snow, has added another of her dramas to my list of favourites. And Inamori Izumi! My goodness. I�fve found her annoying in everything I�fve seen her in, but she�fs definitely redeemed herself with this role. I�fve never felt so dearly for a character as I�fve felt for hers watching Beach Boys.

My favorite Japanese drama series is Beach Boys. This show has everyone of my favorite actors and actresses. The story is compelling, heartbreaking and uplifting. I laughed, cried, and was inspired.
Takenouchi Yutaka as Suzuki Kaito
I first saw him in Long Vacation and thought that he did a terrific job as the bad boy brother.
Sorimachi Takashi as Sakurai Hiromi
I first saw him in GTO, my second favorite series. I loved it as did almost everyone else, still #1 by a long shot.
Hirosue Ryoko as Izumi Makoto
What a great actress, I first saw her in Long Vacation, she must be either great or magical as she stars in the top 3 dramas I think she is at her best in this one.
Inamori Izumi as Maeda Haruko
My very reason for watching Japanese dramas, she starred in the first drama that I every watched I downloaded it from Usenet one episode a week Pretty Girls If she hadn't been so captivating I might never have checked out more dramas
My only complaint about Beach Boys is that I can't seem to find a decent copy of it. I would glady buy an English subbed version if the company that owns it ever releases it. I shunned away from this drama the first time beacuse I felt it was too slow; all the dramas I've seen at the time were pretty fast paced. But this time I buckled down and watched it and to to my surprise, it was a very well made drama, that is, if you allow yourself to get immersed in it. It is not face paced, and there's a lot of character development since it mainly focuses on the two guys, so that had a lot to work with. It's pretty much a friendship thing between two guys, and since there's isn't alot of conflict, hate, and all those other things found in dramas to spice up the plot, so it's easy to lose interest.
The two leads are both big now, plus Hirosue Ryoko. So in retrospect, it's an all star cast, so it's a real treat to watch all three of them. Well I must say I realy enjoyed this drama it was a great drama to watch. Takashi played his normal goof off role kind of like in GTO and in Cheap love. He is realy good in those types of roles. I may be a more late in watching this drama but it didnt bother me. again starting Takashi Sorimachi but this time with Takenouchi Yutaka. this drama is very relaxing specially the beach and the Inn, perfect location. dont expect a good plot. just enjoy every episode in it. again the ratings of this one is high again because of the charisma of the two guys. overall a great drama again by Takashi Sorimachi. Great Drama, Great Trio (Sorimachi + Yutaka + Ryoko), and great Vacation. I almost give ten Point but in the middle of this series, it's getting boring to watch, but then it getting interesting again and emotional in the End. For example of boring Episode are ninth Episode the story about Haruko-chan, that's just soooooo boring story for me, i mean this story just ordinary, nothing special, also 10th Episode. But the whole series was great and also the soundtrack, i really felt i was on the beach with them. Sorimachi as Hiromi are BAKA person, i always laugh with his jokes, and also Yutaka as Kaito-san, really calm and warm person. And don't forget the kawaii Ryoko as Makoto (Same name in Moto Kare drama..Zzzz) Cute and energic, her angry face was great, really kawaii (Look at third and seventh Epsiode).

I really can�Lt get into storys with no main plot, like this one, the independent episodes killed the dorama for me.
Anyway i can see why people like this dorama so much, the two main characters are really awesome, especialy Hiromi(Sorimachi�Ls character), he made this dorama much more enjoyable.
And i felt that the Hazuki character was left without a plot of her own, she just appeared in every episode with almost no importance to the "story".

This drama's a lot of fun to watch. I love the constant bickering and teasing between the male leads. They really give the impression of two overgrown boys... until you take a look behind the carefree facade and all sorts of problems and insecurities show up. There's loneliness, responsibilities and running away from your past - and will the two 'Beach Boys' become more than just unwilling co-works in a small beach hotel?

A fun, light-hearted and easy to absorb drama without a deep storyline. It's about 2 men who spent the summer at a beachhouse they encountered by accident. Each episode focuses on the personal issues of one of the characters in the beachhouse, and how they go about solving it. Watched this back in the 90s dubbed in Chinese WITH Chinese subs. So i didn't really get what's going on except for what conversational Mandarin that I knew.
