There is a tonkatsu craze going on in my country. In the last few months, there have been at least 4 tonkatsu restaurants that have sprouted in the city: Saboten, Yabu, Ginza Bairin and Tonkatsuya.
I've only been to the first two and I'm looking forward to trying the other 2. Rosu, hire, kurobuta, here i come! _________________

So I checked this place out in light of the information you provided here. It was certainly one of the better Chinese noodle with stewed beef soups in LA. It's a more expensive than any other Chinese restaurant that offers this dish at $9 a bowl.
It was pretty good though. The broth was very flavorful without being salty or oily, although it was a bit richer than most other places I've eaten this dish at in LA.

I don't think I've ever had miso soup at the end of a meal, not even in Japan. A number of meals came with all the entrees presented at one time. If I did commit a faux pas, no one said anything . . . but then they wouldn't.
I've always eaten nigirizushi before makizushi, but that's just out of habit, not because of any order of eating etiquette.
Bought some char siu yesterday. Had some for lunch; I'll have some more for dinner tonight. Man, I love pork products!
At a Chinese deli in Kearny Mesa (eastern San Diego) called Sieu Sieu. It's a bit of a drive for me, but it's the closest place I've found that has good char siu. Fortunately there's a Marukai (small one) nearby and also a Mitsuwa (small one) so I have more than one reason to drive down there.
It was a lot easier when I lived in Orange County. Less than a 10-minute drive from my place was a terrific Chinese take-out that, among other things, had pretty good char siu. And then if I needed a roast pork fix, I could go to Little Saigon in Garden Grove where there's a deli that's actually run by ethnic Chinese; they have excellent roast pork (I'm salivating right now thinking about it); their char siu is also good, albeit the taste is a little different from the norm.
Are there any good Chinese delis in your neck of the woods? Or do you have to go to L.A. or Monterey Park?

It's been incredibly hot here in LA these past few days. I was able to enjoy a quick, late lunch a few hours ago at Otafuku in Gardena.
This is my preferred soba shop even in light of the recent opening of a few branches of some Japanese soba shops here in LA. Most of the restaurant patrons are Japanese-Americans and Japanese nationals.
When you see the head chef of Shinsengumi Yakitori in Torrance eating noodles here you know it's legit.

Another favorite of mine is Oumi Sasaya. This is hands down the BEST curry udon in LA. Period. It's a Japanese mom and pop shop in Lomita, near Torrance. The broth made with a healthy dose of katsuoboshi is really fragrant and mercilessly flavorful!
The handmade noodles made from scratch have that wonderful texture and elasticity that comes with eating freshly made udon.
