perhaps he may be thinking of soju, the korean national drink. sake is very wine-like. it won't mess you up like liquor (unless you chug it like aho). nail polish, hmmm.... can't say that i've tried that.
Interesting. The first time I had sake, the aroma of the warm drink reminded me of airplane glue... I guess I musta built too many models when I was younger...

I've only ever chugged cold sake. Most high quality sake isn't meant to be served cold, I don't think.
It does smell like glue sometimes, huh? I wonder why that is...
I do prefer hot sake to cold. _________________

Hot summer days are made more tolerable by serving chilled o-sake, some say that this is the only way to drink rice wine as it is more flavorful and the alcohol is not so quickly absorbed into your system. Simply keep your bottle of o-sake in the refrigerator with the sake flask (called, tokkuri), and it's cups (sakazuki), and serve when thoroughly chilled.
Nevertheless, itfs true. To truly experience the surprising pleasures of good sake, the fruit of the tojifs long hours of work, it must be drunk cold. However, you shouldnft try just any sake cold: most sake delivered piping hot to tables in the average sushi bar would taste awful if chilled. In fact, heat makes a lower quality sake palatable.
The ideal level of temperature of sake also varies depending on its type. For instance, the "flavorful type" and "light and smooth type" taste better if served cold.

Unearthing my ancient chemistry knowledge, alcohol and toluene (the active ingredient of airplane glue) are from the same family of organic solvents... Thus the similarity in odor. It's just that one is consumable and the other is poisonous. Heh.
So if you can read the kanji on the label, you'll know how they rated it. I don't know how much it means though ... it seems like a self-rating system.

Depends on which brand you buy.
As far as quoting prices go, I can't 'cause I don't really drink sake. But I know 'cause my gf's father always buys it and I see the prices on those suckers. Some are mad expensive! _________________

and also it depends on where you are. I'm sure you can be cheap and find a Thunderbird/Mad Dog 20-20/Boone's Farm verison of sake somewhere.

I am resurrecting a topic from the dead. I know..... right?
Anyway, I do drink sake more often now. Not on a regular basis... yet however.
I am now drinking "Kaori Ginjo Tamano Hikari". That sucker is GOOD! Citrus-like. $28.99/bottle ....on sale.
I also have a carton of Ozeki at home. Not bad. Pretty good I say for the price. $8.99/carton (1.8L)
Hakutsuru is good also. Kind of expensive though. $7.20 for a 720ml bottle. I've also tried "Shichiken". That one is good too, but it is hella expensive. Almost $60.00 for a 1.5L bottle.
(I only drink sake cold. Hot makes me wanna barf. Just doesn't taste good. Idk) _________________

Pricey, but not surprising really.

I've tried it a couple times. I don't really care for it, honestly. Idk, it just doesn't taste good. One thing to keep in mind though, after about 8 beers, the taste doesn't really become an issue anymore. _________________
