I agree with u on the examples u gave on racism but I believe I'v said before that Shirota is very talented he acts very well and has a beautiful voice when singing and this is regardless his wonderful looks that ofcourse adds to his image as an artist yet his looks isn't everything he has!
When fans all over the world like some artist definitely they mainly comment about how great his/her looks is and this is regardless what ethnic he/she belongs to (check other artists' threads here to see what I mean).
u made the fact of that Shirota is an ethnic mixed as the absolute reason for him to be popular!! which is unfair!
anyways, to be clear about this there is a good study about racism in Japan made by a professor in Hokkaido University check it out:
