My best language is English. After that, its a little sketchy...

Best Language I can speak in order:
Lao
Thai
Japanese

Best Language I can read in order:
Japanese
Lao
Thai

Japanese is by far the easiest language to learn. No tones make it so easy.

Hehe yeah, and talking to people at the New Jersey Nets' official fantasy basketball league also contributes somehow. Beaten But their trash talking isn't meant to insult people, more like to give life to the league and bring rivalries to make the games more exciting. Though sometimes they talk in a ghetto manner, and I was like "Uhmm......could you guys speak in english?" ashamed Sweat Beaten

I want to revive this thread. Smile I notice a lot of people from Singapore, etc., haven't posted yet. Come on, I want to see what you can speak!

My native language is (American) English. I've studied Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, and a little Taiwanese (but I forgot it all). I've picked up a bit of Spanish but not enough to actually use it--just read signs and stuff. I want to work on my Mandarin conversational skills, but the language I'm concentrating on is Japanese, partly because it's easier to read.

Most of my language teachers weren't very good--in junior high I took Spanish, French, and German, but all I can say now is "Hello"-type stuff, plus counting. Sigh. Now I'm learning to be an English teacher and I hope I'll be a better teacher than most of my teachers were. My Japanese teacher in grad school was great, though--she really paid attention to HOW to teach. Just knowing how to speak a language does NOT mean you know how to TEACH it!

Ahem. Bonk

Anyway. How about you?

Wow. That's a lot. Applaud

A great teacher makes the difference. I love your quote: "Just knowing how to speak a language does NOT mean you know how to TEACH it!" So, true.

I know:

Norwegian (native speaker)
English (fluent)
French (only some. I had it during high school, but I don't remember much these days. Maybe if I took some classes again.)
Japanese (very very new at it, but trying my best to learn)
