Thanks for the link!
I've seen her in quite a number of jdramas like Love 2000, Kimi to ita mirai no tame ni I'll Be Back, Kamisama mou sukoshi dake, etc. Found that she had potential but was mostly cast in supporting roles. Her lead roles in Gokusen & Trick made me a fan. I love her gung-ho & wacky roles.

the ring story is acutually based on a real story.
the ring novel is actually very different from the movie. if you watched rasen, you'll see why.
but.....back to nakama yukie. she is hot. hah. don't mind her being the pretty sadako. ho ho ho.

In the movie, after they had the public demonstration where the guys were calling Shizuko a fraud, is actually true. Not all of the elements of the movie are based on a true story. Let me provide you what I could dig up.
Mifune Chizuko was born in 1886 in Kumamoto Prefecture. By 1909, rumors of her powers of foresight, which developed one day while practicing a kind of meditation involving deep breathing, had begun to spread throughout Kumamoto and beyond. These rumors eventually reached the ear of one Fukurai Tomokichi, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Tokyo University. Fukurai had a deep interest in the supernatural and used Chizuko as one of his test subjects in proving the validity of extra-sensory perception- The culmination of which was the infamous public demonstration held on September 15, 1910.
While the actual demonstration was free of fatality, (unlike in the movie) Chizuko, just like Shizuko (movie character) was accused of being a fraud, a blow from which she never recovered. Whereas Shizuko committed suicide by throwing herself into an active volcano, Mifune Chizuko ended her life in 1911 by ingesting poison. She was only 25.
Shizuko's choice to end her life as she had in the movie were inspired by actual events. In 1933, a young girl named Matsumoto Kiyoko committed suicide by throwing herself into Mt. Mihara. In months to follow, hundreds would go to kill themselves in the same manner.
Incidently, just one year before Chizuko's death, another young psychic was born that would later rise to prominence for her gift on "Nensha". -The focusing of will to produce an image on a film or some other medium. Her name was Takahashi Sadako.
