..towards Americans, asians and Chinese in particular.
My buddy just got back from his honeymoon in Europe, and from what he told me, there is rampant racism towards chinese people, which he is. I can understand the dislike of Americans, but why asians...?
While he was in Spain, he said it was particularly bad. A lot of the young spaniards would walk behind him using rather profane language and they kept calling him a cockroach.
In the Netherlands, they would keep saying Fatwa as in holy war to him. Then when confronted, they'd say that theres no such word in dutch. They also seem to not like Japanese people, he was mistaken for a japanese more than a few times, they'd talk sh*t behind his back and deny anything when confronted, even though they had a dutch speaking friend w/ them. When they figured out he wasn't japanese, they'd rail on the fact that he's chinese and american.
From what it sounded like, FRANCE of all places was the most tolerent of the countries he went to. The harrassment was constant in the Spain and the Netherlands and when he got on the plane the dutch people in the row behind him were talking sh*t almost the entire flight to his xfer in New York.
So.. what's the deal. Im sure it doesn't mean that everyone is like that, but those living in those countries must know something that we dont hear in US newspapers and such.

That is f*cked up....but dood there is rampant racism throughout Europe....they aren't as englightened as one might think....it's understandable these days for hatred toward Americans given our country's policies around the world but as far as particular hatred toward asians or chinese i can't address that in particular.
Man you should see the shit these fuckers do toward black soccer players in Europe!
I've seen fuggin' NAZI flags....white power slogans....making Monkey noises at black players...spittin' on players during throw ins from the sidelines....i actually saw a muthafucker throw a BANANA on the pitch during a European soccer match (not the World Cup mind you)
ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL.
edit: btw, Asians along with blacks are typical targets of racism in Europe being considered members of the underclass who steal jobs, etc....all that bullshiet.

I guess even if their government tries to prevent this, stuff like these are still bound to happen. Kinda makes me wonder if asian and black people who are visiting Europe right now for the World Cup are feeling a bit of this right now.

i guess it's possible but during a high profile event such as the world cup with various ppl from around the world i would imagine the germans are extra vigilant about that..like they wouldn't put up with it...put it this way
i doubt we are going to see swastikas flying during any world cup matches despite the presence of Neo-Nazis in Germany. but perhaps during a normal time without the added exposure of such an event things might be different.
