With a title like that, how could you lose?
Actually it was the cover art that made me buy the dvd.
Has anyone else bought 'Pinky Violence Collection'. My copy should arrive in time for christmas. I heard 2/3 of the dvd box sets (limited to 10 000 copies) were sold even before the official release date (December 6). And there will be no re-pressing for the box set. Thank God I ordered it in time.

I just saw a movie titled; "Face to Face"
2002. Horror.
A Japanese / Chinese co-production.
Staring Itou Misaki of "Kiken na aneki"
First note... What a bad movie!
Sort of a cross between the U.S. made for TV movie, "Buried Alive" and any of Dario Argento's movies. (For those who don't follow Horror movies, Argento is an Italian director who focuses on Horror.)
I bring it up not because the movie is any good. Because it's not. But because it's sort of amusing to watch the DVD that was just released in the U.S.
As I said, it's a Japanese/Chinese co-production. Japanese actors, Chinese producers and directors.
Out of habit I chose to listen to the Japanese language sound track, while reading the English subtitles.
Clearly no one told the Japanese actors that the Chinese had gone back and changed a lot of the dialogue, because a lot of what the actors were saying had nothing to do with the words appearing on the bottom of the screen.
Then, just to make it a bit more bizarre, the Chinese producers decided to add a narrator to the movie...after the Japanese actors had gone home.
In English and Chinese you hear the narrator doing the voiceover throughout the film. But if you're listening to the Japanese track, all you see are the subtitles. There is no voice over. They just never bothered to bring in a Japanese actor to voice the lines they'd written.
Unfortunately that's about the only point of interest in this movie. _________________

i believe last christmas is on the www.d-addicts.com tracker...the site might currently be down...but it's worth the wait...it's a romantic comdey with many laughs..and it's appropriate for the holiday season.

Also action/comedies like Akakage or Samurai Fiction might appeal, although they aren't really great movies, IMHO.
Some other comedies that may be somewhat amusing, depending on your taste:
Geroppa (Get Up)
Shimotsuma Monogatari
Sumo Do, Sumo Don't
But those, probably not as appealing to a 10yr old I think.

Foreign language films for a 10-year-old are pretty tough to come by. If you are looking for Japanese comedies that are appropriate for that age, you might want to consider anime. Some of the great Hayao Miyazaki's anime films might be good to look into. I think Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro) is his greatest film and one of the best family films, either live-action or cartoon, ever. There are a lot of comedic scenes in this film. Majo no Takkyubin (Kiki's Delivery Service) would be another one of Miyazaki's films that would also be age-appropriate for a 10-year-old. It has a number of funny scenes in that as well.
Japanese-language comedy films that I would recommend seeing are really geared towards an adult audience. In addition to the ones already mentioned, I would also recommend films by the late Juzo Itami. He wrote and directed a string of films from the 1980's to the mid-1990's that were big hits in Japan and found an appreciative audience internationally. Some of his best (English titles): The Funeral, Tampopo, A Taxing Woman, A Taxing Woman Returns, Minbo, Supermarket Woman. Masayuki Suo wrote and directed two outstanding comedies in the 1990's: Shall We Dance? and Sumo Do, Sumo Don't. Koki Mitani also wrote and directed two outstanding comedies: Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald (Radio no Jikan) and Sweet Home. He also wrote the screenplay for another witty comedy, University of Laughs. All these live-action comedies that I mentioned tend to rely more on witty dialogue and wry situations than on slapstick-style humor. That said, I did laugh out loud a lot when watching these movies. I'd also recommend the Tora-san comedies, but these films are definitely geared towards middle-aged and superannuated audiences.
