Regarding the use of English in their songs: I agree--much of the time it doesn't make sense! For instance, in "La Familia", what does "Arashi..Arashi... for dream" mean?
Does it mean, "Arashi is my dream", or a command to dream about Arashi-- or some other interpretation?
And on the screen there were random English words that did not make sense, either! ("She"; "Move":, etc.)

I do love "La Familia" and Jun's performance of it, nevertheless! I love his resonant voice.

ahem....do you know their first single? a-ra-shi? seems like you don't cuz the chorus of this song is 'arashi arshi for dreams' (not good enlish, but they were still young ^^, that is the reason why jun sings it in his solo, he talks about how everything started and how the stormy boys have grown to be one big loving family. he HAD to sing that cuz 'arashi arshi for dreams' is their trademark so to say Thumbsup

^ I love the fact that their English isn't very good. Mr Green (ok, I know that was pretty random.)

I also love the random use of English words in W/Me.

I also like La Familia, it's one of my favourites w00t!

But about the random use of English words ... I am sorry, but I absolutely DON'T like it. For Japanese it may sound "cool" and "foreign", but for me as a foreigner it makes absolutely no sense! I always have to laugh about it^^. And it shows again, how bad their English lessons at school are.

And I also would like to see him in a Drama again!!! The best would be a funny one^^. Or a sad one (playing a crazy person and making me crazy Nut )

Actually, Japan does have good english classes, their English teachers are mostly native English-speakers with at least a college-degree, but too bad most of the students don't feel the urge to learn english that good and remember all of it, cause they don't have plans to move out of Japan and Japan is 'complete' with everything, like entertainment.

Well, like I said, I think it sounds cute (and I'm English Mr Green )...I mean, why does their english have to be perfect? After all, they arn't English. I find it makes it sound more natural, as if they are singing the first english words that come to their heads. hehe

Oh, yeah, I'd love to see Jun in a funny drama....as some crazy person or something. rofl

I am sorry, but that's not true. I AM currently in Japan, attending school and the English classes are just bleh . They mostly speak japanese and the teacher is definitely Japanese. It would be too expensive to have so many foreigners to teach English. Maybe if you attend an expensive private school, the school can "buy" more foreigner teachers, but I am on a public school an we have only one ALT, who has to work at three schools at the same time. Most of my classmates are happy to build a proper simple sentence.

Okay, I don't them to be perfect Mr Green , of course. But considering the fact, that there are artists in Germany, whose lyrics are ONLY in English, their English is poor (sounds harsh, I know ...).

Give Jun a new Drama!!! And please something new. When I think of Kimi wa Petto, Tokyo Tower and Propose, he always had a role, where he loved older women ...

Just to make sure no one misunderstands: it's not snobbery or elitism why I want their English to make sense--it's that I want to understand what they are trying to say. For instance, I really don't know what "Arashi..Arashi for dream" means, but I'm sure they had some intent behind those words! So I'm not being critical--I just wish they'd let their lyrics be reviewed by an English-speaking person to make sure the words make sense so that people will understand what they are trying to convey. And yes--I'm new and have very little perspective on the band's history.

What kind of person do you guys think Matsujun is? (Besides cool and sexy.) He seemed to have a respectfulness, graciousness and warmth about him in the interview at that restaurant (or whatever it is!) (I hardly understood a word he said, but I'm speaking about his manner.) For those who understand what he's saying, does he speak like an everyday sort of guy, or a highly-educated, articulate guy, or what?

i'm not sure which clip you're talking about in this interview so i can't comment on that. from the interviews that i've seen, heard and read the translations for, Jun seems to be an articulate, educated person. depending on the topic he could be sensitive, funny or dorky. during his younger days, he may have spoken out aloud without thinking but he has mellowed or i should say grownup and takes time to answer questions. he is very respectful of his elders and very caring with his band members. this is just my opinion on jun from my observations, others may have differing opinions.

please feel free to add your own observations.

ok, i know this is a super late reply... i haven't been up this forum for DAYSSSSSSS...

but

I LOVE 'ARASHI ARASHI FOR DREAM'!!

it's just so representative of japanese quirkiness and the fact that those guys probably zzz thru their classes and it's memorable and it's like their slogan and it's everything from their beginnings like what one of you said earlier!
even when i see this 'slogan', it puts a smile on my face... like some baka secret i have with those boys and the broken english just cheer me up!

i guess it can be interpreted any way you want, but for me, it's a reminder of that little childlike sparkle that i will/should cherish all my life about having aspirations, dreams and passion. it sort of hits a chord in me coz i'm exactly like that!

eg. i looooove this 'kiddish' fandom thing i got myself into for arashi (i'm old enough to be one of jun's 'reel stereotype'). and i darn love every sec of it! and of course, i'm gonna marry jun one day!! yay! and it also applies to the un-arashi part of my life! chasing chasing chasing some baka/fun/flighty/ridiculous aspirations every sec!

don't we all wanna die thinking 'hmm... i did eveything i wanna do'? im gonna die with a 'v' sign on my hand for sure! that'll be so cool...

fybabe, i understand what you're trying to say and yes i agree with you about wanting to die knowing that i have accomplished all that i have wanted to in my life.

actually if you read the lyrics for the song A.Ra.Shi, you would know that the line A.Ra.Shi A.Ra.Shi for Dream is not a random line.

it's meaning to me is that, take life in your hands and storm towards your dreams, with you by my side, i could do anything... make your dreams into a reality!

this is a translation of the song i found on idolthoughts.com it's not the perfect translation but it suffice:

*************************************************************
If you burst open yea! Obedient is good!
That's why heavy heirship is boo!
That's all right!
Even with that we investigate the period throughly yes we are Super boy!
We are "COOL"
Even though there are things we hate but we put looks somewhere
It is okay to do things we do?
It is okay to hold dreams?

You are my SOUL! SOUL! always by my side
I won't turn over because no one can bother us
Create a sensation by collecting the wind through out the body
A.RA.SHI A.RA.SHI for dream

It is said in the tv today
Even the miserable period said
We are always finding
Finding huge love and hope
Everyday! Everybody!
The world won't end yet
It's okay to see it for the first time right now
Let's get on! Let's get on Yea!

Step by step more than to strike let's plunge naked
Day by day more than boredom Ah because I want excitement
Let's spread the big wing

You are my SOUL! SOUL! always by my side
I won't turn over because no one can bother us
Create a sensation by collecting the wind through out the body
A.RA.SHI A.RA.SHI for dream

Catch the violent storm with both hands
Take out your courage and jump out now
The invincible cloud flying about the heaven is
Fly away

You are my SOUL! SOUL! always made me strong
Of course the tears are tommorow's energy
Look towards the future and breakthrough violently
A.RA.SHI A.RA.SHI for dream

You are my SOUL! SOUL! always by my side
I won't turn over because no one can bother us
Create a sensation by collecting the wind through out the body
A.RA.SHI A.RA.SHI for dream

If you burst open yea! Obedient is good!
That's why heavy heirship is boo!
That's all right!
Even with that we investigate the period throughly yes we are Super boy!
We are "COOL"

Let's get on! Let's get on Yea!

You are my SOUL! SOUL! always by my side
I won't turn over because no one can bother us
Create a sensation by collecting the wind throughout the body
A.RA.SHI A.RA.SHI for dream

*********************************************************
Don't you want to storm towards your destiny too like our boys?

thanks senpai!

exactly reflects the optimistic vibe!

hope those boys REALLY mean that too. hope they're doing what they wanna do in life and be happy coz they don't seem to have much time for their 'own' dreams, other than being idols for folks like us!
if they are our aspirations, i wonder who are their aspirations.

hmm... should we talk about this in the arashi thread instead?

i suppose we should take this to the arashi thread, but i wanted to clarify the random usage of english in arashi's songs.

it may sound quirky to us, we who are used to proper grammatical English, but in the Japanese context they use English to emphasise the words they want to use in the Japanese language. if you have noticed, the japanese language uses minimum words in a sentence and a word could convey whole lines of meaning.

anyway back to Jun, i read that he was the only one who attended the live video conference with the Taiwanese fans. the rest claimed to be busy. Jun is caring of his fans ne?

WHAT?!!!
that sounds kind of rude to me...
wanna really hug jun for being really 'professional' at least.

but did the others appear at least in a vid to say hello or darn nothing from them?
coz i would be sore disappointed.
i wonder if there is a fan vid on this. would love to see it!

it seems the Taiwanese fans felt cheated. i would too if they claim that all five would be there but only one turned up.

furthermore, the rest just did a video clip each to convey their messages. so sad ne? i guess aiba and ohno are busy with preparations for their stage plays. but i cannot guess what nino and sho have on.

i would love to see the fan vid too. but have yet to find any.

nino was bloody playing golf and complaining about the heat over the wkend i think... that's what i read from dobu.

i would be so disappointed coz although we all know it's a marketing trick, it's still a winwin situation for all fans to see their guys. but to just blatantly not respect the fans is too much really. besides, their cd is not cheap. they gotta buy one to participate. and i believe some die hards would have bought more than one to win the lottery.

and i don't think being busy is any excuse! isn't this being planned for a long time already? it's not like they just found out about this 2mins ago. and with the tech nowadays, they can set up vidconferencing from wherever they are!

i'm actually quite upset knowing this, i think it will definitely put off loads of taiwanese fans.

don't those guys have brains or worse, passion? they're so myopic. duh...

thank god for jun.

i think the other boys just fell rock bottom down on my love meter, they gotta start from scratch to win me over again. i started off listening to arashi for jun, seems like i'm back there again.

JUN YOU ROCK!!!!

fybabe, relax, if you read dobu's translation, nino was playing golf during the week day and not over the weekend.

although this was planned earlier, sometimes things happens and i'm pretty sure they have valid reasons for their non-appearance. we just don't know what it is.

and regardless of how far the rest of the guys fall from your love meter, Jun will always stay at the top, same goes with me!! and dobu reported that on sunday, Jun went surfing for the very first time!! hahaha i wonder how he fared, all pale trying to get a tan as well.
