was a fan when ffviii came out. didn't play it but saw the screenshots. played ffix on my roommate's PS2 which is not too bad. ffx was the reason why i bought a PS2.
now waiting for ffx-2 to hit the states. don't think i am going to play ffxi though. seems a bit expensive to get the network adapter plugin.

Don't worry lovelessemotion, I'm with you! I loved FF8 because it had a romantic story. It was also the first time where the characters weren't "chibi." (Another plus for me).I love chibi characters and all but it's hard to imagine them to be mean, menacing, or tough when they look like little kids. I also liked the long, almost 20 minute ending. I've played hours and hours playing a game I'd like to see a good reward for my trouble......something I didn't like from FF7. Most of all, I liked the Junction (that's right I liked the junction system!). I hardly used magic so it was great that I can power up myself with them instead of it being wasted like I had in FF7. Also, since your monsters aren't invincible anymore and can actually be destroyed, it made the game more of a challenge because you can't really on Shiva,Ifrit, etc to save you. =) Ah, a long explanation......always happens when I talk about FF8.
FFXI out till late 2004 in Europe, I'm quite sure of it. FFX-2 either early or mid 2004. Not gonna buy both of em, FFX-2 sucks, FFXI inconvenient, a monthly subscription fee. Too pricey.
Anyways I'm not interested in online RPGs.

That question should be reversed to: "Who DOESN'T like FF?". o.o I'm not quite sure which one was my fave b/c I've only played and completed FF6 and 7 >.< I don't want to play FF8, though o_o;; Hate Rinoa and Squall's got that scar x.X;; (No offense to squall/rinoa/squall x rinoa fans) I do want to play FFX, though. I spoiled myself on the whole plot because of the Tidus/Yuna pairing ;_;
In terms of storyline, I liked FF7 more than FF6, with the whole thing about Cloud's personality ^^ But in terms of battle and characters, FF6 was better, imo o.o I mean, the esper system. Terra and Celes were both my favourite characters the first time I played it (Now it's just Terra), the main characters were all equally strong and all of them likable - something I missed whilst I was playing FF7. And I hated the whole chocobo breeding idea @_@ Drove me crazy until I finally decided to give up on the kotr materia -- Not that I really needed it to kill Sephy.
my fave is ff7!!!! follow by ffx and ff8...... in case some of u don't know, hideaki takizawa is tidus!!!!! he did one advertisment for ffx..... but there's a photo of dohmoto koichi tt looks more like tidus...(the one on the site)

Have you actually played X-2?
Or just going by crappy net reviews?

Most definately FFVII
The guy with the long hair and sword = Sephiroth (quite possibly the coolest FF bad guy)

I like FF too!!
It's the game that got me into the RPG-genre!
Started with FF2 US version (ie. FFIV) more than 10 years ago.
Then I continued for all the series...
up till FFIX, cos I dun have a PS2!!!
Fav. should be 4, 7 and 8,
cos 4 is the one that got me started (not to mention the nice story),
7 is the one where there's a huge improvement in the graphics,
and 8... it's just great!

I love FF, especially the music. Graphics aside, i think FF music is THE thing makes it a level higher than other RPGs. Nobuo uematsuo simply rules! My favourite tunes are Aeris' theme, Melody of life, final fantasy main theme, To zanarkland, balamb garden... and many many more.
So far i've played 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,X,X-2
completed only 8,9,X though... (my first ff game was ff8).
Personally i like FF8 the most. I don't think any RPG on earth will ever replace FF8 in my heart as the most artistic, romantic, beautiful game ever made. It was more than a game to me. It was an experience. Up till now i still think FF8's ending was the best and most fufilling ending ever made for any RPG. It was simply beyond words. You simply have to play and complete the game and FEEL it for yourself.
My biggest regret up till this day is not completting ff7. I had a great time playing it, but got stuck around disc 4, and no walkthrough on the net helped. I thought i ran into a bug or something... so i gave up. FF7 also had a great story, great character development, and i think its the real revolution, from 6-7. It laid the foundation for 8 and the rest of the series. I still want to play and complete it someday.
FF9 was a standard and good RPG. Nothing really outstanding about it to me... but nothing bad about it either. It was simply a good game.
FFX... ah... I totally enjoyed this game. BUT i hated the ending because it was incomplete. It had everything... a pretty good plot, pretty good characters, good music, great new battle system... in the end the incomplete ending killed it all. Its supposed to continue in X-2 but...
FFX-2 was a total disappointment to me (i play the japanese version). Yuna acts like a total bimbo in the game. The "mission" feel of the game is strange, uneasy and somehow stupid. Although i want to complete it so badly (cos i want to see the reall ending to this 2 episode game) but i simply cant go on though i want to. Its hard to explain in words but... this game just doesnt feel good to me. Don't get your hopes too high for this one...

seems like the japanese version of ffx-2 is not well received then. i read some of the reviews, suppose to be a bit different from the conventional ff games.
i will still buy it just for the sake of completing the game and hope for a better ending to the entire story. i mean, come on, ffx ended on a cliff-hanger...argh.
heard that they have started developing on ffxii. will buy that one...maybe the new ps will be out by then...cannot wait to see how the graphics will be like.
ffxi is just like everquest. will suck up your life... i am not even going to try...

Well FFX-2 got the same type of reviews etc all ff games have had since 7 -some like, some dont like
Because my mod chip doesnt like playing FFX or FFX-2 I havent played much of X-2 but I have liked what I have played - its not a lazy sequal just because its a follow up.
A lot of effort is put into making it a different type of game.
Some people say that they dont like the mission system - but they complain that other final fantasy games are too linear. This happened when FFX had lots of cutsceens - people complained that they were too many, but people also complin hthey had to push the buttons a lot to read the text on the other games
You cant please everyone.
Also many people writing reviews on the internet can not understand the story or plot because they do not understand japanese. Then people read the reviews and then say it is not a very good game- all because someone who doesnt understand it has said so.
it is okay if you have played the game and dont like it but too many people say they wont buy the game because someone has said it is not very good (and a lot of people write bad reviews of games they dont play just because they are popular)
I like the missions as you can do what you want to do. In other final fantasy games you had to wait for hours before you could chose what to do
FF12 has been in development for a long time. It will be on PS2 and square have suggested that it may be out in japan by march (but this was a few months ago)

even though i could get 20% off the price of final fantasy 11 when it comes out i still have some doubt about whether to buy it or not cuz of the the whole pay to play issue. I still prefer the one person rpg experience.
Dunno if this is true or not. I have read an article about Sony Europe's internet plan long ago. The reason behind the postponement of the upcoming FFXI and internet gaming in Europe was due to the internet infrastructure in the UK. the UK's internet was behind the other EU countries back then. The UK is the 3rd largest videogame market in the world.
