Well I hope you get the experience you need in order to agree 100% about that. 'Cause it's true. And too bad you came out of 4 years of Japanese courses "as dumb as a rock". _________________

And well i just wanted to know... what does chan, kun, san, sempai and all that other stuff mean?
Some one please help me out?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Please and thank you! |
Well, there already is a thread for questions like this, so the message will probably be merged into the proper thread, but anyway...
Chan = Suffix for girls' names. It can be also used for boys in some contexts, but mostly for girls.
Kun = Suffix for boys' names. Can be used for girls in rare cases, but 95% of the time, it is for boys.
San = Honorative name suffix. Alternate form of "sama." Used for anyone (except for children).
Sempai = Honorative name suffix. Used for people "above" you in a heiarchy. Used often in school situations (students older than you, etc.), but not for teachers.
May I ask why you need to know this? Isn't your manga going to be in English?

i usually address by -san.
if i got to know someone, if they are 'percieved' as older/higher stautus than i am, i still go with -san, because I myself will feel uncomfortable NOT addressing via -san.
if i got to know someone, and 'percieved' as younger/same age/equal status as i am, i will just shorten their user name for guys, and use -chan for girls. for some reason or another, i have a hard time using -kun, but thats just me...
but i have no problems with you address me by way of -chan. And as people get to know how cool you are herein the forum, i don't think they will have any beef as well. Jya matta!
- niko | Thanks for that explanation niko2x. It makes sense. My understanding is that 'kun' is usually used as in a younger brother or younger classmate type of situation, right? I am glad that 'chan' didn't bother you niko2x-chan. Me cool???? Aww shucks !!!! Sometimes, I guess.
It is good to get to know you better m'dear. | i figured i'd move our previous convo to here where it fits. _________________
