Any suggestions/recommendations? |
Animation is the real killer, not so much the absolute size of the pic - I think...

Well, we have put in a 200KB size restriction... Which some have ignored and required wrist-slapping.
But if you've seen some of the sig pics, you'd understand: a number of them were like 300x600 pixels, so they were like popup ads or something... Really obnoxious.
That and the fact that nearly no one reads the posting guidelines makes for more mod work.

Is a little bit of animation OK? I don't want to annoy people with my avatar. Should there be a frame number limit or something?

Believe me I am p'ed off by a lot more than oversized signatures. I never could understand why some forum members don't bother to read, or follow, simple guidelines. With some of the newcomers not fluent in English, they are least have an excuse. Sometimes old timers stepped out of line too and that agitates me a lot more.
Enough with the ranting. Otsukaresamadeshita and keep up the good work.

Basically, I'm pretty tired of warning ppl to stop using oversize signature and tell them to change it.
oh yeah..I'm back again..hehehee.. |

It's fine by my book.

Is that possible?
We do have that 200KB restriction, but its not implemented in the software or anything... It's just posted on the profile page.
Which apparently no one reads.

Sure. When you create an animated GIF, the number of frames (or layers) is one of the things you have control over. I use the GIMP, which lets you easily add/delete layers. My pirate flag has 7 frames, timed to change every 150 milliseconds. Frame rate might also be a problem for some people, it can actually burn a fair amount of CPU if the frame rate is high (not to mention causing seizures )

That's got to be the single-most frequent complaint on this site ... I think I see it every day Perhaps something should be done to minimize this annoyance?

I think the version of phpbb that runs at d-addicts allows you to turn off display of avatar/sigs. (Under "Profile Settings - Reading")

as wide as your signature, and as tall as my current one, or taller...
within reason.

I've seen forums that implement a 500x150 pixels limit for sig pics, so I think that is the ideal size for sig pics. But 500x200 is also good. _________________
