Oh my, that was glorious. I can only recognize about 30 kanji, but I've actually seen a few tattoos that even I knew didn't make any sense. I saw a girl with (Onna) tattoed on her leg, and she told me it was Japanese for peace. :x

LOL A friend of mine recently got a tattoo , several cool-looking kanjis, she was told, naturally, that the tattoo meant something like "make love no war" or something like that... It was a sweet surprise for her to find out later that actually it means "home slippers, size XL"... ;-)

BTW, could anyone help me with a list of anime style smiles, like (^-^) and so on ? ...cant find one. I`d be very grateful ;-)

For any Kanji, you can go to

http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdic.html

and there's a Romaji-Kanji dictionary.

Yeah, Breen's Japanese dictionaries are very nice. I'm under the impression that the dictionary used on this site in the search box above is based on Breen's edictj, or maybe an earlier version of it. (Just a guess).

I forgot to mention that if you want to find out the Kanji for a given English word, you have to first find the Japanese word for it in Romaji.

Then, go to "Find Kanji in the Database" in the site and look it up using the Japanese word.

You were close. It's written T}[. Why not use the Japanese term (natsu)? Are you looking for that "foreign-ish" feel? Big Grin

Thx! Big Grin
Lol, it's like... If Contest was in "english" then Summer should also be Bleah Natsu no Kontesuto... doesn't sound to well for me :S But Samaa Kontesuto does, IMO!
Thanks Mr Green

Wow I haven't been here in so long (my computer had 2 b fixed ) I guess I'm still a newbie then lol

Anyway, could someone please translate these lyrics into Japanese (romanji)?:

Let's go to a place only lovers go
To a spot that we've never known
To the top of the clouds, we're floating away

I would really appreciate it. I don't know where else to turn!Sad

I'll give it a try:

lmȂA
lɂ͍sƂ̂Ȃꏊ֍sB
_̂ȂցAl͕YĂB

I changed the first line to "only lovers know" instead of "go" because in Japanese it sounds a bit redundant to use the same verb so close to each other.
Hope you don't mind Sweat

Here it is in ro-maji for you too:

Koibito-tachi shika shiranai,
bokura ni ha itta koto no nai basho he ikou.
kumo-tachi no kanata he, bokura ha tadayotte iku.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna merge this with an appropriate thread, just to keep things all neat and organized.

Well, I was an exchange student in Japan when I was 16, and then I went on a working holiday for a year when I was 22.
Ah, good times were had.
I haven't been back in over 2 and a half years, though Shameful Cry

If you try hard, you can learn any language.
