Haruka Naru Yakusoku ~ 50 nen no Toki wo Koeta Unmei no Ai
Cast: Abe Hiroshi, Kuroki Hitomi, Hirosue Ryoko, Konno Mahiru, Sasaki Kuranosuke
Synopsis: Haruka Naru Yakusoku is about the love between a man (Abe Hiroshi) and woman (Kuroki Hitomi) torn apart by the Japan-Russo War ( based on a true story).
Given the current state of dorama, kudos should be offered over the fact that here is a romantic comedy where one of the leads is over 40 and the other is in her late 30's. The performances given by Hiroshi Abe and Yui Natsukawa were excellent. What struck me was how well they were able to express themselves nonverbally. Their facial expressions, their postures, their mannerisms-- often done subtly but conveying so much. Lets see some Jpop boytoy or dime-a-dozen Kewpie cutie come even close to the performances of these two veterans. Hell, lets see if your typical Androgynous Andy or Saccharine Sally can even come close to Ken-chan's performance.
Re: actresses in their 40's.
Hitomi Kuroki--you'd never guess she is closer to 50 than she is to 40. Another pretty good series to check her out in besides the ones already mentioned is Golden Bowl--good-natured fun with a little seriousness thrown in.
Yuki Amami, a superb actress who imo is also extremely attractive, turns 40 this year. I wonder if the powers-that-be will continue to give her lead roles in dorama series.
Finally, I recently saw a picture of the incomparable Tomoko Yamaguchi, who is in her early 40's. She looked great! Someone-- please give her a quality series to star in.

Thanks for the recommendation! Is this the entire drama (the link) or just the special? _________________
