Yes, Yui Natuskawa as Hayasaka Sensei is outstanding! I've never seen her in anything before, but by about epi 3 I'm thinking, "Where the hell did she come from, and why hasn't she done more work?"

Yeah I was wondering why she hasn't been gotten more high profile work, especially since she's so lovely. I'd seen her in 87% Watashi no 5nen Seizon Ritsu before that and thought she gave a realistic portrayal of a single mother struggling to come to terms with breast cancer.
She's apparently appeared in a movie and drama almost every year since 2000.

Daijobu, when he passed away he was 12 years old, deaf as a post and had lost all his bottom teeth. That's the bad part about having a pet, someday, you know they're going to pass away.

I had similar thoughts and when I looked up her bio in DramaWiki, it turns out she won an acting award for this drama...
No surprise: a really good performance... And I thought she was much prettier than Kuninaka Ryoko.

I guess some folks like the older gals.
Nevertheless her performance was outstanding. And so was Ryoko in that she played the mindless young just out of teenage role to perfection.

Wait...Am I understanding you correctly? You liked the female doctor better than the cute female neighbor in this drama? For some odd reason I didn't like the doctor at all. I kept wanting to give her a better hair style throughout the whole series. Her character was too boring for me. Oooh well to each his own.
As for ken-chan. He was sooo cute.

Yup.
I didn't find Kuninaka Ryoko's character very interesting other than being a plot point... Her dog had more of an influence on the character than she did.

Hairstyle notwithstanding, Natsukawa Yui's feisty doctor character is the one who pushes Abe Hiroshi's character to be (ever so slightly) a better person and the one he (subconsciously) relies on... And maybe to that effect is why she won an award for this role...

I think I am beginning to understand your reasoning here. I liked the fact that she tried so hard to befriend her next door neighbor and somehow humanize him and also befriend the doctor as well. She basically brought out the best in both the architect and the doctor. She added the spice to their stew. She was spunky and a tad bit confused, but I loved her energy.

I still don't see anything extra ordinary about her performance that would have garnered her an award. It must have gone right over my head. I understand how much her character influened Abe-san's character but her acting style left me feeling cold. Didn't she basically keep the same facial expression on her face for the entire series?
We may be debating acting style vs. character perception. In that case we will never agree, but it is fun looking at the character's through your eyes b-kun. Thanks! The next time I watch this series I will see it from a different perspective even if I do still want to cut and style the doctor's hair and give her a complete wardrobe makeover.

If you don't like her 'do, then check out Natsukawa Yui's thread: I think the pics there have her with a 'do that's more acceptable to you...

Thanks b-kun! It wasn't just her 'do. Something about her bothered me from the very first moment she showed up on screen in this series. I kept wishing for another actress to play the doctor the whole time she was on the screen. Crazy I know, sad but true.

Ahhhhh I totally know when you mean here. Sometimes someone just isn't appealing enough, or there's a slight something that you can't put your finger on that totally turns you off. It's completely random at times and I hate it when that happens.
Too bad it happened with her for you. I thought she was delightful. _________________

Well it is a good thing that someone other than me voted for her, because she won an award for her role as the doctor.

I am so glad you understand Wynter. I wanted to like her, I really did but I just couldn't wait for her to get out of her scenes. I liked the other woman who worked along with the architects to help get their clients. I liked everything about her!

Ahh, Takashima Reiko.
A complete about face in this role: she was incredibly evil and selfish in Nyokei Kazoku...

I LOVE Reiko-san. I've seen in about 3-4 dramas, and each time she's brilliant. She really knows how to carry her character.
Not to mention she was the best dressed female in the show. _________________
