In the process of writng Kanji, do you place certain symobl's from Hiragana into a certain position into one symbol, or is it a diffrent way.

This is the only katakana thread I could find and I just have to vent: I spent the last 10 minutes trying to figure this out: ���[���A. I was going nuts!!! What the hell is "yumoa" ??? Then I read a little further and he said �΂� and the light went on and I realized it's "humor" Boy, katakana can drive you nuts sometimes!!!

If you look again, you will notice a few hiragana and katakana are marked with a *. Only these hiragana and katakana are no longer used, because those sounds are not used in modern Japanese.

I'm still having a bit of trouble with so + n/m in katakana. They still look really alike to me.

Well, so and n are like tsu and shi, but with only 1 eye.

I know. I am ok with tsu and shi, as to me they look less alike than so and n.

I've ground to a halt with katakana. I can read hiragana no problem, but for some reason katakana doesn't compute for me

Yeah... they're harder to learn and easy to forget. You almost have to practice daily to remember them. Even if you know them, reading the damn word is almost close to impossible sometimes, unless spoken aloud.

I found katakana much harder to learn than hiragana. But, I read a lot of manga, which almost exclusively uses katakana for sound effects, so that helps.

Sometimes when I'm reading katakana I get so frustrated I yell at the author "Speak f**king Japanese!!!"

Yeah... Even if it's an english word, sometimes it's hard to guess than if it was written in kanji.
