I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but another way would be to download podcasts to your mp3 player if it supports them. There're quite a lot of websites serving podcasts, i think.
Or, try watching Japanese tv online _________________

LiveMocha bills itself as the social way to learn a language. Their system combines self paced lessons, a interactive community with tutors and the ability to talk to native speakers around the world.
Haven't tried it yet so don't really know anything about it.
I am checking out LiveMocha.com, it is free, and seems interesting.
I am not certain if it is like Skype, where you can seek out language partners and learn a new language in that way, but it is worth looking into.
thanks for the info.
I'm currently a college student busy taking classes as a double major and I don't have time to take a Japanese language class. So I'm going to take a shot by buying beginner Japanese books to study on my own. I think it will be better by studying solo as well. I'll just give in my own time and try to find a Japanese friend to talk to in improving my verbal skills. I'm going to start studying today.

I think there are some online sites that might be pretty good... I think they might've been mentioned in other threads...

Hey if it makes you feel better, I was learning Chinese from a textbook and from music and movies, and my friend's Chinese teacher praised me that I was better at Chinese than his own students. I had only been doing it for a couple of months. (My friend hated Chinese so he sucks at it.)
I think the secret is passion. I enjoyed Chinese so much I was studying 8 hours a day sometimes, staying up well into the morning going over everything. I'm not saying you should do that, but it's so much easier to learn and succeed if you're enjoying what you're doing.
That's the best advice I can give.

I think it's very hard to get fluent without someone who is native Japanese or at least is fluent in Japanese to practice with.
You should try the audio lessons from www.japanesepod101.com , they are really quite good and they always have native Japanese speakers on each of the lessons.

I've been learning japanese on my own for almost 3 years now (i told my brother to learn it with me, but he's just a ӂҁj@i learned the basics from different web sites, then i did most of my studying from pimsleur chapters and Rosetta stone.
I played that game before! ^^
it was kindof weird so i deleted it. maybe i'll download it again.
Right now i'm using ->This<- site for learning. it's pretty good. You can ask one of their 3 or 4 teachers something and they'll have your question answered within 2 days.
There's 5 courses with about 12-13 lessons in each.
they've also got alot of shows that you can watch to help with your japanese.
You're right. Japanese IS groovy.
I'm sorry, I clicked on YesJapan and saw AppleMilk1988 thus the site loses all credibility as a useable resource for learning Japanese.
Actually, if anyone knows how much involvement she has with the site, that would be quite helpful. If it's minimal, maybe it's okay and I'll check it out, but I really don't want to bother if she is a top contributor.
Is all the evidence I need. She's just a weeaboo with amatuer japanese language skills at best. So I'd never want to take lessons from her personally. :/

LOL.
Reminds me of the Dickpedia site.
Well that guy and the other girl seem cool enough... I can just ignore AppleMilk's vids.
