Folks,
In the last few months the number of of users with animated avatars and signature blocks has significantly increased. Some people even have 3 or 4 in their profile.

Even on high powered machines, I've noticed that this has caused a noticeable degredation in Jdorama.com performance.

My suggestion is that we put an animation cap of 1 or perhaps 2 at the most for each user.

Your input is welcome.

PCM, it's not just the number of animated gifs, but the size (500+KB) of the animated gifs as well.

anything to improve the performance of jdorama

Input as to the functionality is certainly welcome. Perhaps there's a way to allow for 3 or 4 animated GIFs if they are of limited size?

Just looking to boost the Jdorama.com site performance.

Personally I find looking at 3 or 4 a bit of a headache. So Ive been skipping reading posts.

i must agree, sometimes it's a bit much....if i wanted video overload i'd go to a pachinko parlor.

It's probably not feasible to limit the image size other than how it is currently done (I believe they are put in a scrollable box of fixed size), because the signature images aren't served from this site.

It would be possible to only allow one image link in the sig, though, which would probably be sufficient to fix most performance problems.

Easier on the eyes.
I dont have the load time problem. Now that sounds very annoying.

I agree those oversized/use of sigpics is rather annoying on jdorama, even though some of them feature cute girls - I just block them.

not only the filesize, the size of those bigass banners make it really hard to actually read the actual post between all the pictures. (I'm viewing in 1280x1024 and I find it hard enough, let alone users who are on 1024x768 or less: they must be scrolling through pages of sigpics I'm afraid)

I suggest implementing a limit of 1 signature picture with restricted sigpic size and filesize. not only for speeding up the board but also to keep things easy on the eyes.

Hmm, I'm surprised that there are so many people griping about this: I complained ages ago about this, since I'm one of the few still on dialup...

Genma did put an image width restriction of 500 pixels, but larger images just get scaled down, not blocked. And those images still maintain their huge file size.

Not to pat myself on the back, but I've tried to keep every image I post below 100KB (usually more like 30-60KB) and animated gifs below 300KB, 'cause I know anything larger takes forever for my dialup to download...

Not really sure how Genma can implement any of this restriction stuff, since I don't know how the phpbb works.

Trying to have the mods enforce such a restriction is bound to bring up a lot of griping and moaning (as we've seen recently), as well as veiled accusations of message board facism...

for me it's not even the amount of data involved it's more about the clutter....it's kinda crazy after the page loads and you read somebody's post and it feels like you just had a 14 way video conference call because you got all this shiet moving around like it's a festival.

So ummm.......how badly am I slowing people down
My current gif is smaller and plus i got one pic to go with it in my sig. Is this much of a problem??? I'm thinking of sticking to one pic and one gif for my sig from now on since my gifs are big in size

You sig pic is fine, but your animated gif is nearly 1MB large, a bit much for dialupers. I personally don't mind, but it's when there's 2 or 3 huge gifs, even my system slows to a crawl.
