Yeah, you should definitely give it a watch. Even though I felt it was a little "overrated," it was a great movie. There were so many adorable and touching elements in this, but I think that both males and females, young and old will be able to enjoy this one.

Not sure if this is a spoiler, but I was happily surprised that the Asian boy in this movie was actually voiced by an Asian. I guess people might have complained if that weren't the case.
If that were the case, maybe I'd still be married.
You and I both.

When was it released? I plan to watch HP first, so I hope it's still playing when I can get to it. _________________

I think it was released in late May, so hopefully it'll still be available in theaters by the time you're able to watch it. If you want to see it in theaters, it might be wise to watch it before HP because it might end its run soon... _________________

IMO, Up was not overrated at all. The critics gave it really high scores, but all Pixar films generally do, cause they're very well made.
It was not perfect though. Like Wall-E, the first half was great but soon dragged a bit towards the later parts. I seemed to enjoy the silent scenes the most in both films.

When you have kids of a certain age, you tend to see a lot of 'em. Mine are pretty much past that stage now, so I haven't seen one for a while. But some of the ones over the last 10 or so years have been pretty good

I have no interest in the HP movies either, but I love the books.
On topic: I saw the movie Up the other week. I enjoyed it a lot, but I thought it was a little overrated. I'd still watch it again when it comes on DVD though.
I've read some of the Harry Potter books, and I thought the earlier ones were better when the magic and central story took a backseat to the development and the relating of the characters. As the books progressed, though, they got weaker as the central story came to the forefront and the author's portrayal of evil and danger felt so naive, cheezy, and weak. In the end, I guess they really were just books written for kids.
As for the movies, they're okay but does anyone get the feeling that if the producers could get away with getting rid of all the main characters except the girl, that they would?
Understandably, the books will ALWAYS be better than the movies, and this holds true for most adaptations. But I think this particular director took too much liberty. Although the movie still had the Harry Potter feel to it, they focused on the wrong things and edited out important plot developers.
It may be my least favourite of the HP adaptations... but that's not saying much, as I still think it was a good movie and can't wait for its DVD release. _________________

I saw Half-Blood Prince today with the same friends Ive gone to see all of them as they came out.
I would say that it was like watching a whole other story. My friend joked that that was 3 hours of her life she would never get back.
The effects, sets etc rocked however.
I give it 7/ 10 _________________

We saw the Half Blood Prince on Sunday. I'll have to agree with both of you... it was beautifully filmed, but I think they focussed on some of the wrong things. I want to see it again though
Aww, am I the only one who totally loved Half-blood Prince? Indeed the filmmakers simplified the plot in order to focus on the characters, and obviously that's going to dissatisfy a lot of people. But like Wynter said, a movie adaptation rarely holds up to its source material, and no matter how scrupulous a director gets, there are always going to be more than a few persnickety fans nit-picking at details or scenes omitted. So, instead of trying to make the perfect adaptation, why not just make a great film that everyone can enjoy? And that is why I admire David Yates and the rest of the people who worked on this brilliant production--rather than trying to please everyone, they trusted in their own artistic vision and created a fascinating film. I really enjoyed this movie because it was so different from my own interpretation of the book, definitely refreshing. I was watching "At the Movies" (which now has neither Ebert nor Siskel nor Roeper!!), and Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz both mentioned that we might (though most likely not) even be seeing HBP nominated for best picture now that the Academy Awards is expanding the category from five nominations to ten!
Oh yeah, I really liked how they turned Draco into this Hamlet-like character, always brooding, lurking around, and so tortured. I didn't think of him that way when I read the book, but it came through in the film.
With that said, I can still understand why some people did not like this movie. The first half of the movie played out like a quirky coming of age story, and though quite charming and amusing, there was just something about the pacing that was too slow. And I'm sure a lot of people wanted to see more magic and less pubescent humor. My one true disappointment with this movie was that...

they dedicated so little screen time to Dumbledore's death! C'mon, this is the greatest wizard of all time!!!

Gotta disagree with you there!
Especially with this last movie, David Yates spent a lot of time developing the awkwardness of growing up through the three main characters and not just Hermione. If they even thought about taking out Rupert Grint (Ron), the movie would crumble to pieces!
Anyway, I'm really glad they're coming out with eight movies instead of seven! By splitting Deathly Hallows into two parts, I'm sure they'll pack in parts of the plots they skimped on in HBP.

No. I really liked the movie as well.

I was thinking about seeing HP6, but haven't read the book. Would it be hard to understand? I read and watched the first 5 books and movies.
I felt this was the first HP movie where you needed to have read the book to understand what's going on. My sister, who's in the same boat as you (read all except the last two and seen all the previous movies) needed clarification at parts.
Overall you may be okay, but there is a lot of important information the movie left out, but which is needed to set up the final book.

For example, Dumbledore shares A LOT of memories with Harry in the book, which set up what horcruxes will be needed to destroy Voldemort, but in the movie they only showed the first and last memory.
Some may say that these other memories are not as important, but I felt the movie focused on all the love potion/relationships/teen angst more than the actual plot.
Which is okay, but still. I would have liked more substance.
Uh, still a great movie though. I'm just comparing it to the previous movies. _________________
