Excellent choices! Although personally I thought Sekai no chuushin was way better than Long Vacation.

Hello, first of all, I did an search and did not find a thread about your top j-dramas. However if thread like this already existed and because of my stupidity could not find it, please let me apologize and delete this thread.

So, I'm sure some people have their absolute favourite dramas, while some people have a lot of dramas they like but none to favour in particular. I also know that there is a top 100 J-dramas vote there, but what I'd like to know is why are they your favourite? Was it because of good chemistry between actors/actresses? or was it overwhelmingly good plot? good overall? or simply because of the music and atmosphere?

I'd like to start with my top 5:

5. Last Christmas - I tumbled upon this drama alot while browsing for dramas I'd like to watch next, but never was enough interested. Until recently (actually 1-2 months ago) I watched it after reading synopsis. I wasn't that familiar with Oda Yuuji and Yada Akiko before (Saw Yada Akiko in Voice as support actress only). I gave it a 10/10 immediately after watching it, and is a must see despite it being an "old" drama.
I just love Oda Yuuji acting in this one.

4. Engine - While I have watched many of KimuTaku dramas, nothing beats this (Other honorable mention being Hero). Really, I love ALL casts in this drama (except for Toda Erika, which I don't like in any dramas and I have watched near 10 dramas she's in already). It's such a beautiful drama, those who think this drama is for formula-maniacs only is dead wrong. It's really a good drama I recommend everyone to watch.

3. Gokusen 1,2,3 (Especially 3) - Many people I know say Gokusen 1 is good, but I think 2 and 3 were better. Some people also say it's good however every episode is basically the same. I must say I'm never tired of watching Yankumi getting emotional, never. Nothing more to say actually, I believe having Nakama Yukie is enough to watch this drama.

2. Great Teacher Onizuka - Actually my brother watched this first and told me to watch it many times, but I was still so into Gokusen that I couldn't handle other school drama. Luckily I changed my mind and watched this. I believe everyone here has seen this so this needs to explanation. If you didn't like Sorimachi Takashi before, I'm sure you will love him after this drama. And the fact that Matsushima Nanako stars in it too makes it too good to be missed. Overall good casts and loads of emotional scenes.

1. Orange Days - So what could beat even Gokusen and Great Teacher Onizuka? Nothing ....That was what I thought until I saw this drama. I was always meant to watch this drama, but somehow always skipped it. I even downloaded it once and skipped it. I wasn't that familiar with Tsumabuki Satoshi, but am a big fan of Shibasaki Kou. In fact this drama was so good that I finished all episodes in one day and even re-watched it few days later. Even now I still watch some of my favourite scenes again and again. The music, the story, the cast and the atmosphere and chemistry between actors/actresses is brilliant.

Other honorable mentions that couldn't make into top 5: Nodame Cantabile, Rookies, Proposal Daisakusen and any drama that has Abe Hiroshi in it.
