Also no one pays the poor taxi drivers.

Lol Smile hehe hehe hehe so true

Sheesh...

Among the most recent doramas I've seen, they've got the "Mom/Dad Ran Off When I Was A Kid" cliche going: Bang Head

Pride
Halu's mother ran off when he was a kid

Say You Love Me
Koji's mother ran off when he was a kid

Not So Perfect Love
Chigusa's father ran off when she was a kid

Mukodono 2003

Sakuraba Yuichiro's mom ran off.

Tails of Happiness

Mizuno Miki's dad ran off.

Wedding Planner

Not really ran off more of gave her kid away.

Hotman

GTO's old man ran off.

Midnight rain

Oda Yuji's dad.

With so many single parents in jdoramas this list could get very long......

Yeah... for guys, they work construction in order to make money in a hurry... for example, they did that in My Little Chef.

For the ladies, to make money in a hurry, they always work at hostess bars. They did that in Oyaji, Otousan, and Refrain.

the construction thing, they did that in Yanpapa, but who cares, Tomoya is pure eyecandy even when he's taking a dump Applaud

Doesnt say much for Japanese parenting does it! rofl rofl rofl rofl

Ive been watching some Korean drama and their cliches are by far worse. Seems every other series is the best/girl/friend/confidant betrayer.
Now that I mention it thats pretty popular scenario in the Jdramas.
Although it is more likely to be just omitting to tell the poor heroine the hero called.
Examples:
Over Time
With Love
Cupids arrow
to name a few............

Another cliche: Both lovers jump into a body of water from opposite directions and meet in the middle, embracing and/or kissing.

How do they do that without sinking? Is there a platform beneath them or do they use shallow water for that purpose? Though the water appears dark...

Examples include Kamisama Mo Sukoshi Dake (Fukakyon & Kaneshiro), Shin Hoshi no Kinka (Mari Hoshino & Tatsuya Fujiwara), and in the recent Ruri no Shima, I was watching today a similar scene between two of the side characters. I also think they may have reused the island from Shin... to film Ruri.

Has anyone noticed how the lovers are always crossing the street in the opposite direction, not noticing the other, or sharing a meaningful stare, right as they hit the exact middle of the road. Every time.
Its remarkable.
In Refrain, For You and With Love to name right off hand......
hehe hehe

Well, then there's:

They meet, they fall in love, (have the problem that a relationship is either impossible or hard to maintain, which doesn't always happen though). Then one of them dies.

.

(1) There is always a love triangle, even if the show is a sci-fi-western-slasher-horror. The triangle permutations are MMM, MMF, MFF and my favourite FFF.

(2) There are only two countries in the world: Japan and the USA. If a character lives abroad it is in the USA. I have been called gAmericah by an old woman in Okinawa after being discovered I am non-Japanese, even though I look clearly Asian.

(3) A Japanese male character will cry. It is the only way any self-respecting over-acting male actor will show that he can achieve the bipolar, therefore complete, spectrum of showing all emotions. The other emotion is gshouting in angerh. A truly versatile actor can cry and shout in anger.

(4) A character will repeatedly blurt gChottoh when confronted with a comic crisis. They can never achieve the full gChotto matte kudasaih until the mood shifts from comic crisis to dramatic crisis.

(5) A girl will fall down and scrape a knee, sprain an ankle or tear a stocking and yelp gIttaih.

Not sure if anyone mentioned already:

This seems to be "copied" from animé... when characters run a reasonable distance to tell something to the other person, when they arive they first bend over, leaning their hands on their knees and take good breath. Usually it looks very unrealistic hehe

1) The male lead always has a very kakko ii crying scene

2) Always a scene of someone rushing through the hospital corridors to the operating theatre where another character is waiting outside while yet another character is having a live-saving op

3) When someone dies in the show from an illness, he/she always say something dramatically beautiful, with a single tear rolling down, then he/she will slowly turn to the side, relaxes his/her hand and dies

4) The male lead always has a running scene (when I was younger I thought men in Japan run everywhere)

5) Everyone is passionate about their jobs

Sorry to reply offtopic, but please use normal english language. The trouble you spare by shortening words, is adding up twice to the difficulty to read it. Thank you. Sweat

Yeah, but they don't do straight construction...
They usually are the "traffic directors" on a construction site.

Here are some things I see frequently:

1) racing to the airport to catch your SO before they leave FOREVER. or some other reason. And you gotta get stuck in traffic on the way.

2) One character has collapsed, (heart attack, hit by car/motorcycle, whatever), and their loved one kneels over them. What do they do? check for vital signs? call an ambulance? No, they YELL the collapsed persons name at the top of their lungs. I think if I was dying in the street, that would really annoy the crap out of me. At least for a short while.

3) The missed glance. 2 people can't quite express their feelings for each other, but as they part, one turns and looks at the other, then continues on, then the other turns and looks back but only sees the departing figure. C'mon people work on your timing, or learn how to yell or something.

4) Pitiful female character gets knocked down in the street by busy pedestrians. The obvious intent is to make us all feel sorry for the poor thing, kawaisou. After watching a bunch of dramas, I'm scared to go to Tokyo because I'm afraid I'll be run over by bustling salarymen who don't watch where they're walking.

rofl rofl hehe
That's soo true. Though I think it's acceptable because if one of your loved ones collapsed like that, you'd be shocked as well, wouldn't you? And then you'd call out their names or hit them or do anything to them just to wake them up, wouldn't you? It's one of human's natures, that's all.
