i forget what the limit is, but i don't think it's too strictly enforced. instead of going door-to-door (nearly impossible), they've beefed up enforcement at the borders. they've been looking for large shipments of illegal fireworks into the state.
yes, i have noticed a decrease in activity. though, in some areas, you can't really tell. hopefully, new year's will bring a LOT of tradewinds. when there's no winds blowing, you can't believe how bad it can get. several people with asthma have died!

actually, weather's usually pretty cold (by hawaii standards) during new year's, but if there's no wind, then the smoke's not gonna move. since we have some mountain ranges here, if you're in the valley, the smoke can get pretty thick, and for those w/ asthma....
well, but hawaii residents will always want their fireworks - and pop it too!

Manny,
New Year's on the Island sounds cool. Sounds a lot like the way we celebrated the 4th of July in New York when I was a kid.
Everybody on the the block had their own fireworks. It was a blast.
Can't happen here in Northern California. Cops would be on you in a heart beat. And they're right to. This place is a tinderbox in the summer. But I do miss everybody standing out in the street as soon as the sun went down, to shoot off whatever they had.
New Year's on the mainland?
Wake up. Slam back as many aspirin as I can handle, and then the Cotton Bowl, the Gator Bowl, and hope by the time the Fiesta Bowl starts my vision has cleared up enough so that I can actually see what's going on.
Happy New Year, folks. _________________ Manga is to Literature
