It seems that a lot of my favorite performers get left off, too. Oh well... but don't feel so bad, a lot of Johnny's groups get left off. How many times have KinKi Kids been on? C'mon! They're in the Guiness Book for most consecutive #1 singles!
I stated the SMAP is the only Johnny's Kouhaku staple, but I stand corrected (thank you, Gale). Due to an incident with Inagaki Goro, SMAP wasn't on one year. However, more importantly, TOKIO is also regularly on, and with their hit "AMBITIOUS JAPAN," they should be on again.
Oh, and I'll post the names of the performers when it comes on the news here (they should be announcing soon!)!

I work at a J-TV station and I got word a year or two ago that ANY drama or show with someone from Johnny's jimusho cannot be aired (legally) overseas (with the exception of NHK Taiga or Renzoku Shosetsu dramas). There is one specific example where the show got yanked halfway through because it had Doumoto Tsuyoshi from KinKi Kids! We were ticked because we had paid for the rights to air it and subtitle it, but Johnny's told the studio, basically, "Too bad." This whole copyright thing includes Fuji, TV Asahi, TV Tokyo, TBS and basically every major TV station under the rising sun. |
USO!!!! I didn't know that!! Then how come we still have dramas airing here with guys from the jimusho? since even if the station here paid for the rights they are still not allowed to air such dramas?

Okay, I deleted my slightly offensive message, though if you're interested, you may still be able to read portions of it below.
Anyway, in news, Goto Maki, formerly of Morning Musume, has stated that she'd like to appear in the Kouhaku and will likely change some of her concert dates to fit the Kouhaku into her schedule.
Oh, and Abe Wataru and Udou Yumiko will MC again this year.
I'll post again with new info as soon as I get it!

You talking to me?
If it was meant for me.... it would be nice to use PM in future instead of deleting stuff before one has the chance to read it. I don't visit the forum daily, 3/4 times a week perhaps.
Frankly, i'm not the least bit offended by your msg.... my intention was just wanted to relay a simple point across.
When you go around feeling offended at other's remarks, what makes you think you don't make offensive statements in your remarks? The best way is also to convince others with sound reasonings and not unleashing your emotions.

oh so that's how they work.. thanks for explaining gale.. actually i always had the idea that yes, johnny's jimusho only owns the image rights of the aritse, but once an artiste acts in a drama, that drama and the character all belongs to the tv station.. if not, we won't be able to watch it in singapore.. what i like to say is, please don't think of johnny's jimusho as the all-powerful in the japanese entertainment, they still have to take in consideration who can help their artistes gain popularity, and the people who can are the tv stations, as a johnny's fan, i hope no one thinks of the company as a dictator.. deciding what can be shown and what not..

That's it!
This off-topic post has been removed for good!
On topic, and more than a little out of order, Kuraki Mai (21) will be making her first appearance on the Kouhaku this year! Since her debut four years ago, Kuraki Mai has sold millions of records, including her triple-platinum debut album, "Delicious Way," which featured the hits "Day After Tomorrow," "Stay By My Side" and "Secret of my heart."
In related news, it was also announced that folk singer, Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi (47) will be making his first Red & White appearance in thirteen years!
According to Nippon Sports, the list of participants for the Red & White will be announced on the afternoon of the 26th (Japan time).
Only 36 more days!
In the meantime, for those who can't wait for a post here, you can check out the official Red & White site!

And if you can read Japanese, you might be interested in checking out this site for predictions on who will appear:

I agree and I apologize, Hiroki.
I will adjust my prior comment (to remove any volatile statements) and erase my other comment later on today.
From here on, this forum will strictly be about the Red & White!
As for news on the Red & White:
For the first time in Red & White history, there will be five NHK announcers working the annual event. Two for both the red and the white, plus one general MC. The red's MCs will be Udou Yumiko (34) from NHK News 10 and Senba Takako (28). The white's announcers will be Abe Wataru (36) and Takayama Tetsuya (30). The general MC will be Takeuchi Touko (38). But a big blow is that there will not be celebrity supporters for each team. In the past, Nakai Masahiro and Wada Akiko have served as supporters & spokespersons for their teams.
There is a good chance that folk singer Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi (47) and enka singer Mori Shinichi (56) will appear on the Kouhaku as a duo, performing their new song, which is due out 12/17.
Also, Tetsu & Tomo, whose new song, "Ooda-ku de Propose," was just released, have stated that it has been their dream to appear on the Red & White. They hit it big with their single, "Nande Darou," which may be their ticket to their dream.
According to an online news source, SPEED looks like strong candidates to appear on the Kouhaku. Until the group split in 1999, they made three consecutive appearances at the Red & White. If they are selected, this will be their fourth appearance.
And finally, enka singer, Kosai Kaori (40), who has been a regular on the Red & White since the 48th Kouhaku, and will likely be on again this year, recorded a duet with Yankee's slugger Matsui Hideki's father, Masao, for his debut CD. The scary thing? It ranked in #36 on the Oricon charts and #1 on the Oricon Enka charts! Does this mean that she'll be performing it on the Red & White--meaning Matsui's father may be on? And ultimately, Godzilla himself? "I've never even thought about it" states Godzilla's father, Masao, in an article in Sports Nippon.
If anything new comes up, I'll keep posting!

I think it's just another new competition show that they put up. However, we'll see how that performs with Kohaku, so watch out for this as well. The name for it is: uhmnjh@anl\a`\xdv or u؍Ձv |
Hi Hiroki,
Actually, the article you posted for this event happened last year, but there is another "BOM-BA-YE" on its way. However, the "INOKI BOM-BA-YE" is not really meant to compete with the Kouhaku. It's actually a Team Inoki vs. K-1/PRIDE fighting competition. No singing, only a$$-kickin'.
The top card for the link you gave was American Bob Sapp vs. Takayama Yoshihiro of "PRIDE" fighting fame. Takayama lost by submission (armbar). Other fights included Brazilian Daniel Gracie vs. Nakamura Shinsuke (Nakamura lost by submission) and Satake Masaaki vs. Yoshida Hidehiko (Satake also lost by submission).
This year's big draw will be Mirko Filipovic (sp?) vs. Takayama and Josh Barnett vs. Semmy Schilt (sp?). I think the only reason people may compare the two is that they air at the same time, so it may draw away ratings from the Kouhaku, especially because of the popularity of K-1 and PRIDE. Oh, and if I'm not mistaken, former yokozuna, Akebono, is slated to fight Bob "The Beast" Sapp. I'm from Hawai'i, and I respect Akebono and all other Hawai'i sumotori, but he's gonna get beaten down...I think with that card, many viewers may switch the channel for a little bit...

Congratulations to all the Red & White performers, and especially to the first-timers!
There are a lot of exciting new first-timers, with a few whom I've never heard of! Namely Joshi Jyuuni Gakubou...
Here's a quick run-down of some of the first-time Kouhaku performers:
Kuraki Mai has actually been around for a while, but this is her first time performing on the Red & White. She hit it big with her singles, "Day After Tomorrow," "Stay by my side" and "Secret of my heart" (the theme song to my favorite anime, "Meitantei Conan"). She's been compared to Hikki, but only because she can speak English (she went to an international school) and sings a lot of R&B style music.
Goto Maki was a member of the wildly popular and ever-growing Morning Musume. From the time she entered until she left, she was one of the most popular members of the group, breaking out occassionally for a few solo projects until she left the group a little while back. Since then, she's had several hit singles and a very promising solo career.
Moriyama Naotaro is a talented singer/songwriter who is probably best known for his infectious ballad "Sakura," his second single. The song propelled him into stardom and is still stuck in my head!! Aaargh!!
And Yuzu is one of my favorite bands! Well, there's only two of them, Iwasawa Kouji and Kitagawa Yuujin, who is referred to as the leader of the band. They're best known for their upbeat, acoustic-heavy songs, including hits like "Sayonara Bus." Their songs are popular because they are about topics that many young people deal with, from friends leaving to growing up. And, with simple harmonies and a lot of acoustic guitar arrangements, Yuzu songs are a staple of teenage outdoor street musicians across Japan. They are both incredibly talented singers/songwriters/musicians who have been around for quite some time. I've always wondered why they were never invited! On a personal note, I'm so glad Yuzu finally made it! I hope they perform [quotevsҗD[/quote]!
Oh well, all there is left to do is wait...
Is it here yet?
How about now?
I can't wait!
