Special corner for this year's Kouhaku

On December 15th, NHK announced that there will be a special corner related to their reconstruction support song gHana wa Sakug on the f63rd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassene. The presenter for the corner will be actress Horikita Maki who will also serve as the red teamfs host.

Nishida Toshiyuki, Nakamura Masatoshi, Mori Kumiko, Arakawa Shizuka, and Sandwich Man will join together as a chorus to sing the song. World-famous pianist Tsujii Nobuyuki and the composer of the song, Kanno Yoko, will also be participating in the corner.

This segment is a part of Kohakufs special project gUta de Aitai.h This year, Horikita played a female doctor eUmekof who lived through that turbulent period on NHKfs morning drama eUme-chan Senseie. For this corner, she visited the greal Ume-chan Senseih, Ishiki Aiko, who has engaged in community medicine in Rikuzentakata, Iwate, with her father after the earthquake.

Well, here's at least one reason to watch it:

Controversy regarding Koda Kumi's Kohaku outfit

On December 29, Harada Hideki, the Chief Producer of the g63rd Annual NHK Kohaku Uta Gassenhspoke to the press about the first day of rehearsals and addressed the topic of the NG that appeared on the NHK site for Koda Kumifs performance outfit with, g[Reports] mentioned that I spoke to her agency about regulations, but I have not spoken to them at all.h

Koda spoke after rehearsals with, gI thought [the costume] was very Koda-like and cool, but perhaps it was a bit too sexy,h and revealed that her prepared costume was too sexy according to NHK. She clarified that gIt emphasized my body line too much.h

However, it appears that there are discrepancies between Koda and NHK as Harada had stated, gI did not say anything. What have Koda and her people decided?h Koda also spoke with anticipation about her own performance with, gIt will be great. The song is awesome.h

My own .02, I've always thought of Koda Kumi as a Japanese version of Madonna. Not much of a singer, but she does know how to take her clothes off.

Ayase Haruka & Arashi chosen as hosts for this years' Kohaku

It was announced that Ayase Haruka and Arashi have been chosen as the hosts for NHK's annual New Year's eve music show, Kohaku Uta Gassen.

Although it will be the first time for Ayase, who will be supporting the red team, to participate in Kohaku as the host, for Arashi, this will be the 4th consecutive year to serve as the host on behalf of the white team. It was also announced that NHK announcer Udo Yumiko will be the general host.

At the press conference held on October 18th, Ayase who appeared in last year's Kohaku as a guest introducer for the artists' song, commented, "I am nervous. While getting advice from Arashi-san and Udo-san, I hope to be able to tell the wonderfulness of Kohaku. It is a big year event. Last year, I enjoyed it very much, but this year, I want to act flexibly and bravely."

Arashi members also left comments.
Sakurai Sho said, "I would like to send out the songs from the position of being the host." Ohno Satoshi also added, "Until last year, our record was 2 wins, 1 defeat. I hope for the white team to win again, so that we could have a long lead against the red team."

Aiba Masaki commented, "It was Ayase-san who introduced our song performance last year. This year, we are enemies. We will give it all we've got.", to which Ayase responded, "You're quite obsessive about winning, aren't you?" Ninomiya Kazunari also gave his own thoughts, "We've been getting support from people around us although we were inexperienced (as the host in previous Kohaku). It may be the first and last time for this 6 of us (with Ayase) to participate in Kohaku, so I would like to do our best."
When Matsumoto Jun was asked to give advice to Ayase, he humbly answered, "We're not good enough to give advice, but I hope for both red and while to unite efforts."

The 64th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen will live broadcast on December 31st starting at 7:15 pm and run until 11:45 pm.

Yuriko Yoshitaka and Arashi hosts for this years Kohaku

On October 10, NHK made an official announcement that actress Yoshitaka Yuriko and popular group Arashi will host 'The 65th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen'. Arashi will host the white team for the 5th consecutive year, while Yoshitaka will make her debut as the host for the red team. In addition, announcer Udo Yumiko will be the general host.

Yoshitaka played the lead in this year's NHK morning drama 'Hanako to Anne'. Throughout the 156 episodes, it had an average viewer rating of 22.6%, the highest among any morning drama in the past 10 years.

The actress initially showed a nervous expression stating, "I haven't grasped the situation..." during a press conference held during that day, but she went on to say, "Although this is in 2 months, I will do my best to adjust to it." Then, she looked over at Arashi and said with a smile, "I didn't think I would get to stand next to them in anything other than variety programs, so I want them to pull me through."

Arashi, who has become the first to host the program for 5 consecutive years, will once again be in charge of the white team. Member Aiba Masaki commented, "I've never imagined that we would host for 5 years in a row. I am happy."

This year's theme is "Utaou. Oomisoka wa Zenin Saka de!" which translates to "Let's sing. Everyone participate on New Year's Eve!" The show will broadcast for 4.5 hours from 7:15 pm to 11:45 pm. Until now, the win-loss record between the red team and the white team is 29 to 35.

Arashi's Masaki Aiba & Kasumi Arimura to host this years Kouhaku Utagassen

NHK announced on 12 November that Arashi's Aiba Masaki and Arimura Kasumi will be the hosts for the white and red groups in this year's NHK Kouhaku Utagassen to be shown on New Year's Eve. Aiba had been the host along with his group mates for five consecutive years up to 2014 but this will be his first solo attempt at hosting the Kouhaku. Likewise for Arimura, this is the first time she will be the host in the Kouhaku and she is due to appear in the next morning drama "Hiyokko" from 3 April.

Aiba commented that he was troubled at first whether to accept the offer but when he thought of the fact that he might never get such a chance again in future, he decided to be the host as a challenge to himself rather than regret it every year in future. He pledged to work hard during the broadcast and asked for everyone's support. As for Arimura, she mentioned that when she first heard about the offer, she thought that this was something which would never come her way again in future. Although it is still taking her some time for the reality to sink in and that she's worried about that she can't handle such a huge responsibility, she will express her gratitude for giving her this chance by trying her best and enjoying the experience.

As for why they were chosen as the hosts, the director of NHK's entertainment programmes department Inoue Keisuke said that Aiba had shown his leadership skills and built up his knowledge of sports and hosting ever since he started hosting NHK's programme "Gutto! Sports" from April this year. As for Arimura, he said that she was selected for her fresh appeal as she has never hosted any programme before.
