How's the site speed so far after the move? Is this server better?

I've just enabled GZip compression (a few minutes ago). Wonder if anyone is experiencing any problems with their browser after this change? Does it feel faster?

Basically this compression zips up all webpage output, sends to your browser, and your browser unzips the content for viewing. Saves on bandwidth, any effect?

The speed seems just fine to me thusfar. Since I'm on cable, if anything is remotely slow in loading, I start getting antsy, LOL. I've gotten spoiled...

Site speed is good, downloads are running pretty smooth when I'm at work or from home.

Seems fine to me also. I tried on dial up and cable and it has run smoothly on each. Good

Yesterday night, one time it was slow to load. Sometime later I checked again, maybe 15mins, then it was okay. I don't know if it was just a hiccup or my ISP.

It's been fast on some days, laggin on others. Not necessarily slow, but it'll load some, then stop, then load some in a little bit. This is with DSL. I guess sluggish, like BMW says, would be a good way to describe it.

Personally I haven't noticed much of a change in speed. I'm on cable of course so that's most likely why hehe

I'll probably be moving d-addicts to a different server soon so that will leave jdorama as the only big left on the current server. Hopefully we'll see a improvement in performance then.

Because the HTML/Javascript code is downloading very slow at times, it's possible that your IE browser didn't receive all the code. As a result, the error on page message you see is more likely a result of the code execution coming to a sudden end.

Thanks, groink. Not much I can do about that, huh?

How about your costs? I remember you're still paying full amount for the server.

I'm not moving the entire d-addicts system (the whole thing is pretty distributed) just the website/forum part off to the new server. This new server is provided free by one of the visitor of d-addicts. Its surpose to be a lot faster, dual xeon 3 Ghz with 1gb ram, however with anything free it could come to stop at any time so I am keeping the current server as a backup.

I'll still be using the current server to do other more lightweight stuff for d-addicts. So yes I'll still be paying for the current server and nothing will change regarding the other sites currently being hosted including jdorama.com...except it'll probablly run a bit faster.

Okay.... More on the error that bmwracer may be experiencing...

I'm also experiencing errors. I've pretty much nailed down what the problem might be, and that is a piece of javascript code that's used to create the editing text window when you reply or quote in a topic.

Here's the error:

Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://www.jdorama.com/posting.php?mode=topicreview&t=2267

However, I can only generate the error when replying to selected topics in the Feedback/Suggestions/Enquiries forum. For example, if I reply to the very first post in the "Feature Artist" topic, it generates the error every single time. Looking at the HTML, it's possible that the error is being generated in the fade.js module, but I'm not exactly sure.

As a result of the error, I can still post. However, any mouse dragging/highlighting features within the editor window are not functional.

I only started experiencing this error a few hours ago. I'm also running XP Pro SP2, but I've been running that exact configuration for several weeks now with no changes to the system since then.
